Frustrating Delta experience tonight. I spent nearly two hours in chat trying to use a $200 Delta eCredit toward the taxes on a SkyMiles award booking.
Before booking, a Delta agent explicitly confirmed in writing that the eCredit could be applied to the taxes and fees. After I completed the booking, I was told that using the eCredit would require me to give up the TakeOff 15 benefit from my Delta Amex — increasing the cost by 11,100 miles per passenger.
Over the course of the chat, different Delta representatives gave me conflicting explanations about whether eCredits can be used with award travel at all. I also asked multiple times to speak with a manager and that request was never addressed.
The bigger issue is that Delta promotes both eCredits and the Delta Amex/TakeOff 15 benefit, yet using one can effectively block the other. I’ll be following up with Delta formally because the misinformation before booking and the lack of escalation were unacceptable.
Claimed loss: Delta tax = $160. One Agent says eCredits may cover award-ticket taxes; another says TakeOff15 blocks eCredit use. So use a Delta Amex and eCredits makes eCredits effectively worthless.
Desired outcome: Change policy. AMEX Delta should not negate the use of eCredits.
