My daughter & I joined David Lloyd around 4 years ago as she wanted to continue her tennis training at a facility that has indoor courts & are able to offer tennis coaching.
Generally the club has been quite good (if not overpriced!) but my gripe is with the change of a club policy which affects us & a few other members at the same club, as well as clubs nationwide (so I'm led to believe).
We invested a lot of money in a tennis ball machine for my daughter to train with when she doesn't have lessons or anyone else to train with only for the club to inform us around 8 months after we bought it that such machines were no longer allowed at the club.
We didn't receive any official communication, just a WhatsApp message from the rackets manager. The management struggled to give me a reason as to why the machines were banned. I asked for an explanation on several occasions, eventually being told that it was a health & safety issue as a member of another club had been struck by a ball that had been fired from a machine. Apparently they struggled to agree on a suitable risk assessment & decided to leave the ban in place.
One of my arguments is you could be hit by a tennis ball regardless of whether it is coming at you from a machine or from another persons racket. My daughter, along with some of the other members of the club, hit the ball with much more pace than the machine can generate so what is the next step? Ban tennis altogether?!
Surely there must be a way to resolve this?
Desired outcome: Lift of ban for tennis ball machines
