if it wasn't for my fiance i would be ### out of luck too. i almost fell for this ### too. it was a phillips 42 lcd tv from craigslist. HiI still have the TV. The TV is in perfect shape (take a look at the attached pics) and it comes with 18 months of transferable warranty. I am now in United Kingdom. I have been relocated here with my work several months ago. The TV is a US version and I think I can sell it for a better price in the US.Since I can't meet you and make the exchange, I would like to use a service that will help us with that. Please go here to see the procedure:TNT is a worldwide delivery company (like Fedex, DHL or UPS). You can see from their procedure that you will be able to check the TV before I receive the payment. If you are in a hurry, I will use 2 day delivery (shipping is on me).Let me know what you think. Thanks, Susan

BE CAREFUL GUYS!

This lady is NOT from Hudson Ohio. She states she is from the UK and her name is Laura Owens (CHEF). She wants the buyer to use a shipping company called TNT. This is a complete SCAM. I have seen her name HERE as Susan.

This lady will NOT answer questions about Hudson, Ohio. I think she has a duplicate ad for Avon, Ohio. PLEASE do not fall for this SCAM JOB.

I find it VERY INTERESTING that TNT is in AFRICA? Is that true? Maybe Laura is too.

Here is an ad that is recent (AUG 3, 2010)

thank you guys so much for posting these complaints. I almost fell for it as well. this time she went under name of laura owens. This is the email i got from her below:

Hi, this is Laura and I am getting back to you regarding the 15" Unibody MacBook Pro from Craigslist.

I am now in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
I am selling the 15" Unibody MacBook Pro, with 2.66 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4 Gb memory, 500 Gb HD for $500 USD.
I hope you are still interested in buying it.
This Macbook Pro was ordered brand new directly from Apple on August 8th, 2009.
About the laptop I can say it is 11 Months old and it is in good shape, no scratches, no dents as you can see from the pics I've sent. Included in the $500 price is everything the laptop came with when it was new, including the original manuals and warranty papers. The laptop still has Applecare warranty until August 8th, 2010. The Applecare warranty is fully transferable to the new owner. You can also purchase 2 more years of Applecare warranty.
I tried to be a thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it.
I have used the laptop mostly for internet browsing and presentations, so I would say it has been only lightly used.
The laptop has the Leopard 10.6 OS, the iLife 09 and the MS Office 2008 with the original recovery disks included.
One more thing, the laptop is an US version and it works on the US power and plug system so you do not need a converter to use it in the US.

I will send an email shortly with the complete specs and some photos so you can see the condition.

Get back to me and let me know if you like the laptop and you wish to buy it.

Thanks,
Laura Owens - Chef

This is the transaction that I have with the scammers:

Hi, I am getting back to you regarding the 46" Sony LCD, 1080p full HDTV from Craigslist

My name is Arianna and I am now in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom.
I am selling the 46" Sony LCD, 1080p, full HDTV, 120 Mhz for $350 USD. I have attached some pics so you can see the condition of the TV.
The TVis still available and I hope you are still interested. This TV was ordered brand new 4 months ago.
About the TV I can say it is 4 months old and it is in good shape, no scratches, no dents as you can see from the pics I've sent. Included in the $350 price is everything the TV came with when it was new, including the original manuals and warranty papers. The TV still has warranty for the next 20 months. The warranty is fully transferable to the new owner.
The TV is here with me in UK.
I tried to be as thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it.

why are you selling it? what is the cost to ship it?

Hi,

I'm selling it because I can't use it here. It only works in the US.
Well, I found a way to sell you the TV that will cover the both of us. It's a worldwide delivery company called TNT. They have a service that will allow you to test the TV before I receive my payment.
Please go to the TNT website below and read their procedure so we can be on the same page:

http://england-tnt.com/tnt.express.wolverhampton.depot.overseas.transactions/

I will pay the TNT shipping fee.

Thanks.

This sounds like a great deal! I know there is no way this could be a scam. I mean, it isn't like i have access to google or anything to easily check the key words "scam, craigslist, tnt shipping". And because of that I will live in my fairy world were everyone is honest!

I will gladly buy the TV! Please let me know when you ship it. When it arrives, I will send you a payment for the TV without a problem. I will even sweeten the deal:

I will give you an extra 100 dollars if you make a video of you eating the beef out of my stool.

Don't worry, you are flagged as scam now :) Enjoy your evening!

Hi Arianna,

Thank you for the reply, the pictures looks great and I'm very interested. Since the tv is in UK would it be have to be shipped? I hope you would agree to split the shipping somehow. Or are you coming to the US to visit soon and that's why you placed it on the DC craigslist? If we were to split the shipping how much do you think it'll be? Probably more than the TV huh. In that case maybe you should pad the box with something else I can sell, that way we don't waste the shipping, and then I can split the money with you for whatever profit I make. How does that sound? If that works out well maybe I can buy more TVs from you.

By the way your english is also quite good as it lacks the usual british slangs, I think you should move to DC it'll be very suitable for you, and it'll save us shipping fees.

Thanks,
Theresa

Hi Arianna,

I am willing to purchase the TV. And since you are kindly offering to pay for shipping, I will reimburse half the shipping to you when I receive the TV to be fair. I think even with that price it's a good deal fr the TV. In fact, it's pretty darn good where I'm willing to compensate for the packaging and handling, so let me know what the total is for the box, the styrofoam peanuts, the bubble wraps, the transportation to postal office, and your time spend on it and I'll include that as well.

If you can please ship the TV first so I can inspect it myself. Then I will have the money transferred to your account. You can trust me because you will have my home address and our names rhyme.

Best,
Theresa

I got a similar message and fell for it. Just in time to get out of it and get back my money!

here is the email message from the same Arianna and from Wolverhampton in UK!

Hi, I am getting back to you regarding the 64GB 3G iPad from Craigslist

My name is Arianna and I am now in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom.
I am selling the ipad for $500 USD. I have attached some pics with it to this email.
The ipad is still available and I hope you are still interested. The ipad was bought brand new from Apple a few weeks ago.
About the ipad I can say it's in perfect shape, as I used it only for a few weeks. Included in the $500 price is everything that came with the ipad.

I sent the money through Western Union as advised by "customer services TNT". I called TNT the next day because my payment was not being picked up and I wanted the ipad! TNT said that they DO NOT work with Western Union! They told that it was likely a scam. I called Western Union and found out that the money had not yet been picked up in UK (most likely because of it was a weekend!) and so I cancelled my transfer. Western Union gave me back all my money including their service fee of 43 USD.
Now I see all these posts on the internet talking about craigslist scam involving apple products and TNT services.
Thank heavens I got my money back...BEWARE of Arianna!

Arianna from Wolverhampton sure is one busy chick! Her latest post>an IPAD through craigslist, Ft. Myers Fl. The reply email is the same as the others, no points for originality here; " Hi my name is Arianna, I'm now in Wolverhampton, UK, I've attached pictures of the IPAD, tried to be as thorough as possible, please let me know if you're still interested...blah blah blah..."

I replied stating my interest and suggesting the use of PAYPAL, a true, safe payment option, I offered to pay her half the money up front, and the remainder upon receipt of the item. (Paypal protects you, and you can use your protected credit card to pay). She then suggested the TNT website, and gave a link, which upon first inspection looked quite legit. HOWEVER...I was scammed buying a surround sound a few months back, only to find the exact "deal" all over the internet as a scam. So I decided to check out google for TNT/Scam, just to be on the safe side. SAVED BY THE BELL!

They don't have any of my money, or my credit info, although I suppose "she" does have my mailing address...dare her to come to my crib though...I'd love to meet her...HA!

SCAM ARTISTS ARE EVIL! Thank goodness the interenet can be used for good and evil ;-)

***(My current response)***

Arianna,

I actually have a really good friend who works for UPS and has a family member, Alex, in Wolverhampton! I just talked to him yesterday. He told me he would gladly inspect the TV and then pay for it on the spot if it is in working condition. That way we both win in the end! He will be there all month working.

What a great solution right! Sometimes, the luck just happens to be on your side.

Would you please send me an address so he can know where to find you. Or even a phone number if you would want to meet at another location.

I know that website said western union, but he will just have cash, should work out just fine. He could do euros/pounds/dollars, whatever you think is best.

Thanks again!

(I am betting on a lack of response.)

About the laptop I can say it is in good shape, no scratches, no dents as you can see from the pics I've sent. Included in the $250 price is everything the laptop came with when it was new.
The laptop is here with me.
I tried to be as thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it.
I have used the laptop mostly for internet browsing and presentations, so I would say it has been only lightly used.
The laptop has the Seven OS, MS Office with the original recovery disks included.
One more thing, the laptop is an US version and it works on the US power and plug system so you do not need a converter to use it in the US.

Please get back to me and let me know if you like the laptop if you're really interested in buying it.

Thanks,
Arianna

Hi

I sent the TV earlier today. The TNT clerk said that they will inspect the TV and then send you an email notification with the instructions on what to do next. Please be sure to add customerdepartment@ukship-tnt.com to your contacts list (TNT said that this is very important).

Thanks.

Thank goodness for this Complaints Board! I decided to do a little scam detective work before I sent "Arianna Torrence" $300.00 via western union to TNT in Wolverhampton, England. "She" was selling an $1, 800 MacBook pro on Craigslist for $300.00. I thought it was too good to be true!
My situation mirrors pretty much, all of the above complaint's

It sounds like a really good deal! if you're in the UK, how are you handling payment and shipment? How much is shipping going to cost? I haven't done many transactions over Craigslist, but the one's I have done have all been local. And though I am very interested in the great price you're offering, and this doesn't seem like a scam, I still want to be secure. Thanks for taking the time to elaborate on your offer.

That was just my honest response, before I had done any scam research. And now for their solution that sounds so familiar now:

Well I fell for this! Should have done my home work.

Hi
Yes I still have the laptop. But there is something that I didn't mention in the post.
Please bear with me on this. I am now in United Kingdom. I have been relocated here with my work several months ago. I don't need the laptop anymore so I tried to sell the laptop locally, but with no luck. I was offered silly money for the laptop because of issues like - it is a US version or the warranty doesn't work here or that it has a US keyboard format. That's why I'm trying my luck in the US.
Since I can't meet you and make the exchange, I found a service that will help us with that. Click on the link below to learn more about the service:
TNT is a worldwide delivery company but it is better known here in the UK. You can see from their procedure that you will be able to check out the laptop before I receive the payment. In this way the both of us can be at ease. I will use 2 day delivery on my expense.
Thanks,

The scam is still active. It smelled fishy from the start, so I Googled and found this site. I didn't fall for it, so thanks for the headsup. Basically the same scam, no one sells a uesd TV from England and ships it free of charge to the USA. The shipping charge alone (2 day in the email) would eat up the cost. Here this email exchange I had with them, I asked them for the link, as I wanted them to hang themselves. I checked Craigslist again today to see it it had been pulled and it was already marked as a scam:

Hi

Yes I still have the TV. But there is something that I didn't mention in the post.
Please bear with me on this. I am now in United Kingdom. I have been relocated here with my work several months ago. I was offered free transportation and I took the TV with me. But I can't use it here because it works on the NTSC format and here they use the PAL format. I tried to sell it locally but with no luck. That's why I'm trying my luck in the US.

I was contacted at mt retail patio furniture store by a cusomer wanting to buy $7000 worth of furniture to be shipped to Singapore. He wanted me to contact TNT for a shipping quote and pay for the shipping. He would then pay me for the shipping and product.

TNT IS the scam. The headquarters is in Ghana AFRICA. This is the third time this has been tried on me. Here is the scam...

I pay for shipping. He pays me with stolen credit card information. I ship the product. The person gets his credit card statement, disputes charges and wins. I am out the shipping and product.

I think in your case you might have gotten SOMETHING shipped to you but they will have your credit card info to then try to do to someone else what they tried to do to me.

So, uh . . . what's the scam here? You send them money for a TV that doesn't exist? Would you do that not knowing the seller or any of their information? I don't think I would buy anything to be shipped outside of eBay.
