dishonest management
I was employed @ the ross on commercial and dixie, off oakland park blvd. My manager went on vacation mrs. J. Martinez. The day before spring break I found out it was spring break so I asked my assistant manager what to do?"She said well do what you have to do" I told her I have always been home with my children so this was never a problem for me.I wrote a letter stating that due to lack of knowledge and having no child care that I will not be able to attend work for the week of spring break and that I apologize for the inconvenience. My assistant manager approved it and I took the week off. When the manager returned from spring break she fired me before spring break was over so I called Mr.Volger from corporate office. He was supposed to Talk to J.Martinez because the assistant manager told the manager that she approved the week of spring break but j. martinez fired me even after hearing the truth. I wanted justice for her unprofessional actions. Mr.Volger never called back!I saw a ex-coworked who informed me of a number to call the complaint on no-good managers, so I called a young lady named Beth, she too has never called me back! So I decided until I can get a new job I would file for unemployment,so I did. Today I get a letter in the mail stating that I did not have proper authorization for an absence(this is a lie!) so they denied me. I want to fight this how can I get help for this situation FAST, because J.Martinez is lieing and J.Williams told her the truth in my presents and now she has LIED to government. This has got to be illegal and I need a professional to help me on this discredit of an honest persons characteristics and honor that is undeserved based on some womens spiteful, disrespectful and unprofessional character!I need HELP ME HOWARD!

worst place, rudest people!
I went to the Ross store on 75th Avenue and Bell in Arizona today and I found a white skirt and there was no price on it. I went up to the line and there were 20 people standing and the lines were not moving and asked someone if they knew where I could go to find out the price of the skirt. She told me that I would have to wait my turn in line and then I would get the pricecheck. I waited in line for 20 minutes. I watched Anna, the cashier drop one of the pots that a few people ahead of me was buying and she didn't even apologize. She said that the top usually is on there harder. So finally my turn comes up and they call Nelly to do a pricecheck. She comes up 10 minutes later with a blue skirt, looking remotely NOTHING like the skirt I want to purchase and tells me that the skirt is $12.99. I said to her "this skirt looks NOTHING like the white one." So she said "okay, you can have it for $9.99. I was appalled and asked Anne if that was the way that Ross did things, just makes up prices? If that was the case, I wanted the skirt for $7.99. Anne said "Have you ever seen the way the store is? There is stuff everywhere, it is impossible to find anything." How is that professional customer service? I said not my problem. The skirt could have easily went into my purse because it's not even being accounted for. I asked her if they just make up prices? Is that the way it works? Where is the book with the UPC's like any other store would have? Then Anne lost her patience with me and said "do you want the manager?" I said "no, I want you to stop your tone with me." I paid for the skirt and went into my car seething and called the store to speak to the manager. The joke was on me. Good old Nelly who can't figure blue from white answered as the manager. Now I can't even find the corporate office online to complain. It wasn't the fact of the price of the skirt, but what kind of business conducts like that when they "make up" prices for their apparel? I didn't appreciate the way I was treated either. The place is a dump, impossible to find anything on the racks. Once, a friend of mine broke something and we ended up cleaning it ourselves because no one would bother to get us a trash can and mop. Another time, I used their filthy facilities and a cockroach was on the wall. Why do places like these pop up everywhere and why are they shorthanded and hire the RUDEST people...
I am completely lost into why I just walked into the Ross on the Northside of Pueblo Co and before I could get past the registers I was told to leave the store. I mean I walk in and stop to look at the men's fragrance rack and when I look up there's a female Ross employee standing right up on me so I say "hello" she rudely said "You need to leave " . There were all kind of customers standing there checking out at the time so I was confused as to why she was telling me to leave. So I said " Escuse me but why are you telling me to leave ?" She simply says again "You need to leave " so I ask" Why " she then calls security. Now I'm standing there with security and their Ross employee yelling and telling me to leave the store. I again ask " why do I have to leave ?" She continues to say leave the store. At this point I'm so confused and embarrassed that I begain to leave. As I get to the door I turn and tell her " There is no reason for you to make me leave the store and for you to make me look like a criminal and embarass me like this" the then yells at me again and says maybe you will learn to stay out of this store. I've never been accused or charged for theft or been trespassed or asked to leave any sore my whole life. I think I deserve a reason or a apology from this store and it should be done in front of all the customers at the store at that time. I know that's impossible.to do but come on now these people look down on me because this employee wrongfully made me out to be a criminal. I should have made them call the police so maybe instead of the employee accusing me of being kicked out of the store at one time will be proven she was sadly mistaken and maybe next time she will interact with a customer with more respect and not just jump to conclusions and accusing someone mistakenly and so rudely and embarrassingly. I'm so mad right now I can't believe this happened. I totally agree with not allowing a shoplifter into your store but to assume I'm one with no reason at all makes me not ever want to shop at Ross again I almost want to make a sign and protest against this store and all others. I'm a waiting till Monday to call corporate and see how to get this resolved became I have shopped at Ross for years and love to shop there but now I'm afraid to go in there anymore because I don't want to ho through this again. I have spent thousands of dollars in this store and this is the thanks I get for choosing to shop there. I could never refer anyone to shop there due to this incident. I just hope corporate can do what's right and gain my respect as a store again.
In fairness to their employees... 1. You can work for WEEKS without a paycheck if you don't ask your manager for your first check. 2. They change schedules without notifying employees.
I'd be pissy and rude, too, if I was treated like crap.
I'm have noticed so many of the employees are being treated like [censored] and the head manager needs to put a stop to it.
I got a couple of shirts as a gift from my family (Which they did not fit) so i went to return the last of the purchase. Everything was purchased on a debit card, the first two shirts i returned no problem and got my cash back. I went in today to return the last shirt and they wouldn't take it unless i had a debit. I didn't need a debit the last couple of times i went to return. Also they were extremely rude and careless towards me and wouldn't even make eye contact or stop what they were doing to talk with me, (I talked to a cashier, then got shut out by the store manager). I was infuriated when i left cause nobody would acknowledge me or give me any feed back.
I've worked for ROSS for a year & a half already. I've been in the fitting rooms, sales floor and as a cashier/front end supervisor. I've witnessed my fair share of rude customers. I'm sorry that corporate only gives our ROSS store a certain amount of hours to distribute amongst it's 50 employees. I'm sorry it seems like we have no cashiers. If you want something so badly you'd stand in the line, don't come up to complain about the line when you chose to stay there for 30 minutes whining about it. Don't get mad when we ask you to "please remove your hangers" we have a hanger rack that says "for a faster checkout please remove hangers" it not only helps the cashiers it helps you too. As for the fitting room, IT'S STORE POLICY THAT YOU HANG YOUR ITEMS ON THE WAY IN AND OUT. Don't ask us 20 million questions about why you have to do it. Just do it. Do you ask the people in the mall why they want to know how many items you have? Do you question how they do their job? The people in the fitting room aren't just standing there counting items, they have to organize their rack from ladies all the way to kids. So when you come out its best to hang your items back up. Don't throw your unwanted clothing in our hands or place your disorganized items onto a neatly organized rack. As for the restroom, if you don't like the way it smells then have a talk with the customers that go in there. We aren't the ones who smear crap on the seat or stink it up. We have to clean it. For the females don't leave your dirty tampons or pads laying out in the open trash can, flush the toilet. I don't want to open the door and see poop floating around or see drops of pee on the seat. I'd like the restroom to be clean too, I don't want to have to do my job plus clean a nasty bathroom that y'all messed up.
When I'm out on the sales floor and you see us picking up clothing from the floor and fixing the hangers don't come behind us and mess it up again. Don't take an item off of the hanger then throw it over the railing because you didn't like it. The store is a mess because of YOU. Shoes are every where, what is so hard about placing the shoe in the correct spot you got it from?
When it comes to the jewelry counter we don't have a person who stands there 24/7. You see us with a line so don't get huffy when you don't see us jump at the opportunity to help you, believe me we would love too. But are you really going to buy those 24.99 earrings or are you just wasting my time?
Also, when you have a return please have your receipt ready. Don't hold up the line. When you don't have a receipt, please have any form of ID ready. Don't get mad when we have to give you the current price it is for now. Take that up with corporate. You yelling at us and telling us that we're stupid isn't going to help. Yes, we have stuff that is marked down to .49 cents so don't tell me that you've never seen anything that cheap here. I've seen plenty walk out of ROSS with .99 cent goods that use to be 17.99+
You can't return LINGERIE WITHOUT THE PRICE TAG ON. No one wants to wear your dirty lingerie after you've worn it. Don't get mad when we tell you that a description doesn't match your item and that you have to take it back to the Ross you got it from. We aren't trying to make you feel like a criminal. Just simply doing our job. Don't get mad that we have to go back and forth from the return line to the purchase line. Don't get mad when we tell you that the purchase line is on the other side, clearly we have signs for a reason.
Don't tell us we need more cashiers, we obviously know that. I can't snap my fingers and have more cashiers. THERE IS A PROCESS. Did you go to your job with out filling out an application and doing a background check? Didn't think so. If we had more cashiers we would've called them to the front 15 mins ago when we saw the line out of hand. Managers are usually the ones who are on the register helping us because we have no one. They could lose their job for doing so because they're suppose to be on the floor managing what goes on out there. It also helps if you don't come up to the register saying you need a price check just for us to go find it or something similar then you get mad about it because you don't want if for that price. Don't question us why one item is a lesser price & another item which is the same is a different price. We have different trucks coming to us Monday-Friday from different companies who price their stuff differently. No I can't give you the cheaper price for those shoes or clothing because the SKU doesn't match. I won't lose my job because you want an item for a cheaper price when the price is already CHEAP ENOUGH.
AND FOR THE PEOPLE WHO LIKE FIVE FINGER DISCOUNTS, PLEASE DONT COME BACK.
You taking 300 dollars worth of stuff goes against us, our inventory, to the people who actually want to buy those things. You taking socks, clothing, etc takes away from our pay raise at the end of the year.
STOP SCREAMING AT PEOPLE. It only makes you look like an [censor].
It’s not MY job to do YOUR job! Your cashiers are on the payroll and they can remove my hangers. Unless I’m getting paid to do it, I won’t be removing mine.
I work for Ross. I won't complain about how low the managers treat the employees or the poor pay, dirty store, bathroom etc...but I will complain about the customers. I work back in the fitting room and get so tired of woman that wears a size 14 or 18 bringing back size 7 and 9 Jr's blue jeans. They come out and hand all 8 to me and say, "I don't want any of these, they didn't fit!"...well dud...go to the right department and get your clothes, then they WILL fit.
Then I get really pissed when they return with 8 more, this time size 11 and 13...for heaven sakes...learn the size you wear. I have to put all of that stuff back on the floor, just because of stupidity. Oh yeah, I forgot about the ones that come out with the clothes all balled up and push them in my chest and say I don't want any of these...hell, were they balled up when you went in with them? I know what you are thinking..."It's your job! sure it is, but still show the fitting room lady some respect.
I would like to know where some of thoes people work and come to their job and act "uncaring" such as going into a bank...open an account with one teller, then turn around and close it at another teller, oh, maybe repeat this a couple of times. Do you think the teller would like that? Well I could always say to her...it's your job! :)
If you're mistreated and can ONLY complain about customers you deserve to have horrible customers.
I've shopped at Ross at Briek Creek Raleigh NC for over 6 months and i've never seen other shoppers wreck a store as bad as this one. I went to the ladies room and someone took there fingers and but poop on the wall, now do you really thing a employee would do that, no because they would have to clean it up. I've also seen many time where people let there kids run a mock in the store and they knock over items and move items and the parents don't yell at the kids. I've also seen people who fill there carts up with items and then leave them in the store for the associates to put back. There has been times when i seen other shoppers put items over and over again in wrong places. so the employess have clean up after them. I see employees walking the floor and cleaning but when they have to go up front to ring people out, i understand why the store is not clean. We just need to give the associates a break, and its almost christmas time and the store is super business, just think wouldn't they like to be shopping like us then working in a store.
Cashier jasmin, was really rude. Didnt say hello or anything. It seem to me she was in a bad mood, but its not our fault. Very rude, no customer service at all.
I worked for Ross for a total of about 3 1/2 weeks before I got fed up and quit. I worked there as a second job foersome extra spending money. The "little" extra spending money I made was definitely not worth the hassle. Between getting paid minimum wage, the store always understaffed, dysfunctional management, and work load, late hours I said "screw it" and quit. These stores are always understaffed And never have enough people for the work load. Many times I would be the only cashier at the front, and also ha do their duties like retracting returns. Ceaning registers, and pitting hangers away, as well as pulling shelves if I happen to be "in between" customers. It was a nightmare. This is one of the reasons why the store is constantly in a cluttered mess. Customers throw shoes all over the floor and clothes all over the place that they don't want. Bring cart fulls of clothes and only end up purchasing one outfit (meaning we have to put back the other 20 pieces you didn't want) it's almost impossible to complete your tasks before your shift ends. You should be blaming your other fellow customers who are too lazy to put stuff back, or the executives who are too cheap to hire enough help...The store I worked at was opened until 11:30 at night. A clothing store. Meanwhile all the other stores in the plaza have been closed for at least 2 hours. I absolutely hated working There.
All of you should really complain to the top management because the people working at the store level are all part time getting paid the minimum wage with hardly any benefits and working soooo hard picking up after customers who does not know how to put merchandise back in the racks or shelves. Before you all make complaints maybe you should asked yourselves why the store is filthy...yeah your the customers but the people who works at the store level works their ***ss off for minimum wage and top management could care less so yeah complain to them!

poor service, unkempt store
It is so painful that I have to write this, for I love the products at Ross, but the shopping experience is all but pleasant. No matter what time of day you enter some of their stores, especially those in Florida (I have shopped Ross from Ocala to Pembroke Pines and Miramar) you will find floors littered with merchandise, broken items on the floor, empty drink bottles on shelves left behind by angry shoppers. I think their patrons tend to treat the store with the same respect they feel management has for them.
The staff is neither well-trained nor friendly.
I hope that Ross will listen to their customers and realize that another chain may come along with much cleaner facilities and friendlier staff, and before they realize it, they will have lost their business.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

My complaint is I purchase a hydroblast gum cleaner for $13.99 and returned it within a week. The product never turn on, the clerk said the price had change to $9.99. I explained to her that it never worked, it wasn't my fault, I bought it like that. She was rude and told me it policy. So by no fault of mine, I was cheated our of $4.00 + tax.
I think that practice is very wrong and is a way of beating customers out of their hard earned money
I used to love shopping at Ross Dress For Less. Not any more. Every time I go there, no matter where or what state, the floors are littered with merchandise, broken hangers, items on the floor everywhere, dirty and wrinkled merchandise.
The stuff is never helpful and friendly. There is always just one cashier and a line of waiting angry customers. I don't understand how this chain of clothing stores stays in business. I left the store empty handed last weekend because I just didn't have the time to wait in a line that stretched almost to the back of the store.
When we realized that the store is not opening other registers for us, I and other shoppers left the merchandise we wanted to buy and left.
I really hope they will make the necessary changes.
Let me explain something to you. I'm currently a manager at Ross. I understand your point of you as a customer and I apologize but let me explain why this happens. Because we are a discount store we get discount people. I'm not saying that's you or that every customer we have is trashy because that's simply not the case but the large portion of our clientele is trash. They come in and pick up random stuff and then decide to throw it on the floor. Where I live and work in particular is surrounded by a lot of drug addicts who could care less. They take clothes off the hangers throw the hanger on the floor and the clothing on top of the racks. This would be manageable if we had enough staff on our salesfloor to clean up after them, just as our lines would be manageable if we had the staff. Here's where we have issues. The way Ross's payroll is set up is for every $1000 in sales we get $20 in payroll. So for $1000 in sales we can afford to pay 1 associate and 1 member of management for 1 hr. Mon-Fri we get trucks. The night before the truck we get an email saying how many hours is needed to complete the truck. So if we get a truck that is requiring 64 hours to complete that means you need 8 associates for 8 hours processing that truck uninterrupted. Trucks do not get a separate payroll. The associates scheduled for those truck get paid out of the same $1000 in sales as the cashier and fitting room attendants do. We are also required by our corporation to have the truck completed everyday. If not all members of management will get written up. So all of our staff get put into the stockroom and we don't pull them out for any reason. Now these same people from corporate are also telling us that we must put customers first. So as a member of management I'm constantly being pulled as a back up cashier and then running back to the stock room to clean it up. There is no one on the salesfloor. Our fitting room attendants are not allowed to leave the fitting via policy so no they can't help you find something and they can't help on register. These same people from corporate also demand that our store be organised and recovered. So whoever the closing manager is is then held responsible for the disaster on the floor. My particular store closes at 10:30. There are times we do not get out of the store until 2am because of how messy it is. Then that late night comes out of our payroll for the next day. No matter what we do we are in between a rock and a hard place. So it's either let the store be a mess and not take of the customers but the truck is completed therefore no write ups! Or take care of the store and the customers but let the trucks get backed up and get written up until you eventually get terminated. Oh and are part time staff are not allowed to exceed 25 hours a week which makes it even harder when you have giant trucks 5 days a week and not enough staff to take care of it due to hourly restrictions. Yes we could hire more people but how would we pay these new people who need to be trained (we have no special training hours alotted either it's all the same payroll) without cutting hours from employees who already know how to do their jobs? So yes I understand your frustration as a customer but please understand we are just as frustrated as you and we are doing the very best we can with what corporate demands of us.
we barely have enough payroll for a skeleton crew :(
I am with both sides here. No it's not Ross's fault that the customers throws things they decide they don't want on the floor. But it's also is not the customer's fault that Ross can't schedule worth crap. They need to learn to schedule another cashier in the morning along with the opening cashier, or have a cashier come in an hour later, then maybe one come around lunch time, instead of using people from the stockroom so they can't get their work done or people who do markdowns so they too can't get their work done and customers pick up what they are going to markdown and buy them full price because the stupid registers aren't programmed to take the markdown prices like most NORMAL stores. Come on Ross, get with the times and stop blaming your employees for lack of service to the customers all the time. Fix the registers and start scheduling more cashiers!
Do you think its Ross fault customers REFUSE to be neat, REFUSE to put stuff back when they changed their mind while they still shopping so somehow you guys figure its okay to drop the merchandise where ever. They feel like the employees are maids or the shop is magic and anything on the floor will magically put its self back where its found and because many people like Ross prices 2x that amount comes to the store between 400 to 700 0r more that walk in the store and 5 to 6 employees that are working 3 on cashier, 2 in stock and 1 in fitting room whose gonna have time to clean after you guys all day. Oh and there is NO night shift crew that comes in and clean after you guys; the workers you see from about 5pm or later are the night crew that cleans after you customers that have the nerve to come in rude and with all kinds of attitude. FYI you guys do not pay our paycheck as so you like to think. What you pay for is the merchandise that you bought and take home with you. If you really want to be accounted for paying anyone paycheck just hand money without buying anything.
"get your gay white [censor] out of here". This is wrong is so many ways. That fellow and his wife were abused and mistreated.
I can deal with the dirty and unkeep stores. I can not deal with those hate filled discriminating remarks.
Down with Ross
Customers deserve to be treated with respect by the employees at Ross. If the employees treat the customers with respect the trust me everybody is happy. Why is the majority of only Ross associates rude, grumpy, non helpful, careless, negative. I mean damn if you feel like that at your job then do YOURSELF a favor and quit! Dont take your anger out on customers!
I had a HORRIBLE experience at Ross today; a lazy rude grumpy associate by the toys section decided to take her anger out on me: a customer. I noticed a small kids play tent was open and I was just looking at it, she decides to come to me literally out of nowhere righ behind my back and accuse me of opening the tent and try to steal the huge darn thing! I felt so assulted and disrespected. I know the associate really got mad that some other kids played with that and now she has to do her job by putting it away so therefor she has to take her anger out on me, just a customer who is looking at the tent. She brought another assocaite and that associate explained to her that the tent was out in the open for a while and that I was not trying to steal it. I asked for the horrible associates name, Clauta, and went straight to her manager, and explained that I felt disrespected and that Clauta is a HORRIBLE associate, she seems like she is having a bad day and she taking it out on customers. The manager didnt seem to care, and completley ignored me, the manager looked and acted like she didnt like or care about her job. Bottom line Ross has rude ### associates that need to be fired immediatley!
Ross ONLY sucks because of the people who work there (plain & simple) You associates dont have to complain about how sloppy customers are, we are not the ones getting paid, you are so do your damn job, if not, QUIT! Whoever is the CEO of Ross should hire better managers so they can take care of the rude ### associates!
unreasonable people always has the first loud word
I took my 4-yr old daughter to do some shopping at Ross (333 Ward Ave., Honolulu, HI 96814) on 10/21/06. She found a Winnie the Pooh chair/table set to be very cute. The set is approximately 3 x 3, and weights 25 pounds. Anyway, it is both bulky and heavy esp. when you have to take care of a little kid, and I am barely make 5 ft. After I struggled to slide the set on the shopping cart bottom, and went to the cashier; The cashier (associate #432577) stated that she could not scan the set because the way the set was in the cart. I asked if she could help to move it up to inside the cart so that I could pushed it to the parking lot, where my car was.
She said:" you can do it. Just bring it up!"
I said:" I can't do it, can you help?" Note: I am a person who doesn't ask for help al least I really need it. I happen to have weak wrist that I should not carry heavy items.
Unwillingly and with a long face, she finally move her body and came around to my cart, and dump the set flat on top of the cart.
I said" " I needed it inside the cart safely so that I can take it to the parking lot."
She ignored me.
I managed to move it inside the cart. Pls note that by putting the set flat on top of the cart, the set could fall down and hit anybody who might walk by. Do not forget that the top of the cart goes downward. I asked her if she could put the set inside the cart. Then she turned out to be very upset and angry.
"You can't take the cart to the parking lot! She raised her voice:" I can't scan the box now"
Well, I didn't know that. I moved the box and dumped it on the counter and returned the shopping cart to where it belonged.
When I was signing the sale slip, I dropped my credit card on the counter when she asked to see it.
She was telling me that I was throwing things around, and called Chris, manager on duty for attention. She told Chris that I was throwing things around.
I was totally caught off guarded for her to say that. I guess the unreasonable people always has the first LOUD word.
"I did not!" I replied.
"yes, you did. We have a video camera." She answered confidently.
I told the manager what happened but he didn't say a word.
I dragged the set to my car and came back to say to the manager:" I haven't started complaining about yet, but she had to complain about me first. This is another thing I am not happy about."
"I know." Chris said.
How to fix the problem? Fire her, and a $50 gift cert.
Everyone should do what you say... you have baby. Not by choice... you just have one, you chose to take shopping with you. I would suggest a more expensive retailer for the service you deserve.
I will never return to this store
I went to Ross for Less on Tunnel road in Asheville, NC today after i worked a 12hr shift. I was in line to make a return. I was behind a lady that had a purchase. The manager told the floor supervisor that she had to do my return. The manager asked me if i wanted to look around before i did my return, i said no. So she told me i had to get in line. I wa...

I am a Ross employee at anew store that has only been open for a year and a half.I recently got a yearly review for a first time raise since time of hire which has been from the beginning. To my surprise due to the minimum wage increase i only got 3 cents higher than a new hire because Ross chose to give raises before the increase.I am a dedicated employee who never calls in and is always willing to stay over when needed.I feel as if my dedication has gone unnoticed.
Find someone at you local unemployment that you can talk to. My friend was fired from Wal-Mart a year ago and was initially denied unemployment. But she re-applied and talked to someone there and the second time around she got her due.
Im sorry to hear all of this but never work @ Walmart either that place is alot of ###.
Im part of that wage lawsuit they have against Walmart. You should look @ suing Ross and file and agreevince against Ross. Go to your local labor industrial. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE HAPPY NEW YEARS!
Re: firing. Did you make a copy of the letter ? Did you get the approval in writing? If so, then those are your proofs to unemployment, otherwise its your word against their word. And no, its not right.

I'm currently employed at a Ross store and yes, they really need to stop being so dishonest. One of my managers had made a racism comment towards me, which I will be reporting to HR, however from reading your complaint I have no hope that it will even go through to them.
I agree with Nicole that they need to hire people who know how to speak the English language, instead of hiring people who only know how to speak Spanish; it's very difficult and I can't even communicate with the co-workers because like 70% of them know only Spanish...
The store needs better employees the hire allot of customer service workers that speak very little or no English I was an employee there and I was one of the very few who can speak English It really ticked me off one day and quit because they kept having meetings in Spanish and I did not know what they were talking about and they had there nerve to ask me to at least pay attention I told them I didn't understand and they should speak in English.
