hotel reservation misrepresentation and scam
I
was a victim of a hotel reservation scam in late January when I
thought I was making a regular reservation at a Holiday Inn in
Florida. I then had another reason to check my credit card
balance and found a charge from a company called "reservationcounter"
where they had made an advance non-refundable reservation at the
hotel.
I now know how I got scammed. I went to TripAdvisor to
choose a hotel in Crystal River, Florida. I chose a Holiday
Inn, so I hit the show prices button and a Holiday Inn Logo came up
which was the lowest price. When I hit the Holiday Inn logo I
was certain I was in the official Holiday Inn site as it is pretty
much an exact replica. I had asked for a simple
reservation which would be payable after our stay at the hotel.
Such reservations could be cancelled which was important as we
have a health issue. This "reservationcounter"
set me up at a non refundable rate, charged me the fully flexible
rate, and then charged higher taxes and fees than would be payable
at the hotel. I am out well over $100.00 and lost
flexibility. If we cannot use the room because of health
reasons, I will be out some $470.00. I have since learned from
Holiday Inn that the reservation was made by Expedia.
This certainly lowers my expectations and trust for TripAdvisor and
Expedia.
Since that time, While making additional reservations, I have
noticed that if you are to decide to stay at a certain brand of
hotel, like Holiday Inn, Marriott, Hampton Inn or probably any other,
and you Google that brand, a website comes up as "Holiday Inn
Reservation Counter" That then leads you into the
"reservationcounter" site rather than Holiday Inn or any
other chain you choose.

misrepresentation
I looked up Americinn on my ipad. The website directed me to you. I had no idea I wasn't talking to Americinn reservations. My first question was "Do you have a pet friendly room available? I am travelling with my dog." The gentleman I was speaking to, whose primary language was not English, told me that yes, there was a pet friendly room available. I told him that was great and to book the pet friendly room. He quoted me $87.99 plus fees and taxes. I booked the room, arriving 20 minutes later. I asked the desk clerk if there was another door we should come in so I wasn't bringing my dog through the lobby. He told me I was not booked for a pet friendly room and that it was $124.00 for a pet friendly room. I had no other options at that point so I said sure but then his system would not let him change it since it was booked through you. He was kind enough to call the manager and get approval to put us in the pet friendly room for what I had paid through you. He told me you were Expedia which it does not say on the website.
I would strongly suggest having people who speak English answering your phones and have identification on your website saying who you are. Also, tell your agents, if someone asks for a pet friendly room, reserve them a pet friendly room.
I will be much more cautious in the future to make sure I am taking to the hotel itself and not Expedia or whoever you are.

gross misrepresentation of marriott
BEWARE when making reservations that you may not be dealing with the company you think you are! Was directed to a phone number when trying to make on-line reservations at a Marriott. It said the hotel I wanted had no availability but call this number to check nearby hotels. I thought I was still dealing with Marriott and when the representative told me the name of the hotel (which I had never heard of before) I asked not once but twice if this was a Marriott property and was told it was and that it had a restaurant and room service. When we arrived, it was an alarming site to say the least. It was a 6 room Motel in the middle of nowhere, there was 1 vehicle in the lot with a broken out window, a broken armoir outside of one of the rooms (all outside entrances), a fire extinguisher outside one of the rooms, couldn't even find a sign that said where the office was. We got back on the road and headed to another Hotel. When I called the number again (reservationcounter.com) all they will do is try and get the motel to refund our money, which by the way was priced higher than we paid for a beautiful room in a great Marriott the night before. I told them my issue was not with the crappy little motel but with you for mis-representing that motel and Marriott. ASK WHO YOU ARE TALKING WITH! It may not be the company you think!

non-refundable policy for a date change
I made reservations for a weekend at a Chicago hotel thru www.reservationcounter.com. When I made the reservation, they said they thought theycould get me a better price, but they couldn't because of the room I wanted. I now tried to change the reservation to a different weekend and they said that I couldn't because of the discount I received on the room. I told them I didn't receive any discount. They told me that it wasn't their policy but the hotel's policy regarding the non-refundable policy. I called the hotel and they said that that was a lie. I am reporting this business practice to the Attorney General and I will never ever use www.reservationcounter.com again or any of those on-line reserverations. They are crooks...
scam
When I called 800-992-2694, I believed I was dealing with Comfort Inns reservation center to make a hotel reservation. I asked for the government rate of $70, but was told the rate was $89. When I checked in at Comfort Inn, I was told the reservation was through Expedia, I said no, I made the reservation thru Comfort Inn. Now I was charged with a $14.30...
