Rent-A-Center double charging

I got one. RAC always lets me make my payment over the phone on Sat. This week on tuesday I checked my bank account online only to find that they charged me again (on tuesday) and this caused my bank account to be overdrawn. So all the small one to five dollar purchases have a -35.00 next to them. Anyways, this made my account -288.00. I have called, and they said that they are working on the problem. I still have not even got a return call to let me know they are working on it or anything about fixing this. Has this happened to anyone else? I filed a complaint with the BBB, I'm just trying to figuire out what else I can do.

It's been a few days since you posted, so I certainly hope you've received a call, or better yet, that things are resolved by now! If things haven't gotten straightened out, please call the corporate customer support number so they can speed up the fix. I work for RAC so know the number is [protected]. So sorry to hear this happened to you and that you weren't hearing back that it was being quickly resolved. Something similar happened to me once and it was just very stressful. (Oh, and popecko, that was good advice, too!)

Talk to your bank - it was an unauthorized charge. They should be able to reverse all those fees while they investigate it. Good luck!

Rent-A-Center unbelievable bribery and thievery!

I began college and it needed a laptop but I did not have the cash to buy one outright, so like most of us who find ourselves wondering into Rent A Center, I'll say I was desperate.
After talking to the associate I portrayed my need for a computer that was small, portable, and able to store data for my schooling on it. I had never shopped for a netbook before this day so I was unsure of what I should have been looking for. The associate apparently picked up on my ignorance and used it to his own sick advantages.
I walked out of the store with a Dell mini laptop for the price of $25.00 and $25.00 per week. While it seemed steep for me, I knew I needed it, so I decided I would only own this computer for a temporary time until I was able to obtain a laptop outright without dealing with their ridiculous and unnecessary scam.
TWO DAYS after my purchase they call my cellphone asking when I was coming to make a payment. I told them that I had 5 more days until my next payment was due. They said they understood and hung up. A few hours later I get calls from my mother, my uncle, my boyfriend, and my grandmother telling me that Rent A Center had called them and given out personal information about me regarding my balance and payments. They had also told them I was very overdue with my payment and they will have to repossess if they could not find me to recover their money. Isn't this odd considering I had personally talked to them on the phone politely just that day?
I went and made my payment early to make them stop calling and also to possibly show them that I wasn't a dead beat trying to steal the item. I thought by showing them the money early they might regard me with a little more respect.
Just a few days later (not even a week after my INITIAL PURCHASE!) Rent A Center begins calling my work and releasing again personal payment and balance information to co-workers and my boss trying to obtain MORE money! This was humiliating and not to mention it really pissed off my boss to receive these phone calls!
I had made up my mind at this point. They could have their blasted computer. They called my phone 15-20 times in a row several times per day everyday. They filled my voice mail box with messages and called my family and boss constantly and filled their voice mail boxes up as well.
Then one day on my way to work I see Rent A Center trucks parked in the alley behind my house. At first I didn't think anything of it. When I came home from work they greeted me as I was coming out of my vehicle asking me for the money. I told them I did not have it at that time. I had a feeling he wasn't going to leave, so I left my daughter in her car seat thankfully, and drove away. That night I stayed at my moms until about midnight then drove home.
At 8 a.m. the next morning my phone rings. I answered it, and it is Rent A Center. The manager says, "I have to retrieve the item today before 7 o'clock p.m. regardless of whether you made a payment or not because you're so far past due". (Keep in mind I had made 2 payments and by this time I had only had the computer for two weeks, meaning I was up-to-date on my payments). The manager then informs me, "I have a driver positioned outside of your home, all you have to do is come outside and give the computer to him".
Is this guy out of his mind? I informed him that I was up-to-date with my payments and he could retrieve it when I was actually overdue.
The driver started then pounding on my door and ringing my doorbell. He didn't rest or pause inbetween but simply went on and on constantly. This had to be illegal harassment!
I finally gave in, for I was afraid due to having my three year old daughter there with me. I didn't know what these monsters were capable of.
I went to the door and handed him the computer (which by this point wouldn't even turn ON it was such a piece of garbage). I was done with Rent A Center harassing my family, boss, and me by calling, pounding on the door, and peeking in my windows. Enough was enough.
I advise anyone not to give in to their scams and their promises because believe me, you will regret it...In a week or so.

My brother used me a reference on a purchase, I by the way never gave them a reference. They call me 5-6 times a day. I tell them every time I'm not the person you have a contract with stop calling me. This is going on 2 months now. I'm in a 2 hour earlier time zone they call at 6am . I would avoid these people .

I been a customer for Rent A Center in Medford Oregon and I don't own anything. Everytime I ask about the 2 weeks free guess what they take it off the bottom. If can afford to have Hulk Hogan and other famous people represent them on television. They can afford to be a little more honest they call my family and friends almost everyday to harass them about a used couch set. I own nothing from them and my bill gets higher and higher. I tried to talk to their corporate offices in Texas and guess what no fax machine. They do need to go out of business or face some time of punishment from the government authorities. No other creditor is allowed to continually call and call and call everyone of your contact list.

Veronica,

Sounds like this happened some time ago (you mentioned it was when you started college) and for you to post this now, I’m thinking you must still have a lot of genuine passion about your bad experience and I’m really sorry for that. (Yes, I work at Rent-A-Center.) This is such an odd post though because I've never heard of a store calling 5 days prior to a due date and I don't know why they would. It’s against our policies and I can't think of any reason why an employee would even waste the time to do it. It's also against policy to give any detail about a customer's account to a customer’s reference or place of work. Literally, all we're allowed to say (and training’s very specific) is, "Please have call Rent-A-Center at (###) ###-####." Even then, we only call references if customers don't return our calls to schedule late payments or to return their merchandise. Also, absolutely not allowed to call 20 times per day - nothing like it. Peeking into a window and constant door pounding, also absolutely against policies... And I don't understand why they thought your account was past due if you had only had the laptop 2 days, like you described? If you were receiving this kind of across-the-board bizarrely-bad customer service did you ever call customer support to escalate the issue? I’m trying to understand what happened but feel like I'm missing something here because I just don’t know why any employee would do so many things that would take up a lot of time and get themselves fired, esp for an account that wasn’t even past due? It just doesn’t make any sense.

Rent-A-Center - bed bugs

Rent A Center customers beware. I bought a couch from that was cash and carry. I had company that slept on it and awoke with several bites on them, When we flipped it we saw that there were bed bugs on the underside. We called them and they picked up the furniture but they will not reimburse us any additional costs. So don't go there unless you want to bring home some blood sucking friends.

Sure give her the 800# that doesn't mean a thing.I worked for rac for 15 years and after the reg. director yelling the f word at me and breaking doors in my store {this was a weekly event} they asked me to leave. There reason was that an account manager had another customer sign an agreement that wasn't that persons, simple mistake ... right. They didn't think so and fired me. I had 15 years of stuff inmy office like my computer, leather chair, pics of my child, over 200 sales and managers books ect... they gave me one box and 10 min to get it all out. They told me that another manager would bring it to me and dont come back to the store.Well within 3 days it was all gone they dont know what happen to it. Ive calld the 800# HR over 100 times but yet nothing. My point is that not only do the customers get treated badly but as well as the employees.Your day will come.

Rent-A-Center complaint

I purchased this very computer from rentacenter (used). for only $400. It was a great deal. I was never late on my payment. I was using my cousins number as a contact number. On the day my payment was due rentacenter called my cousin while she was in college just after opening. This was uncalled for, i was not late, had not been late. I consider this harrassment. This is bad for business because for the customers who do pay on time turn away and go to the competitors and are willing to pay more for reasons like this.

They did that to me too, which is why I am glad I no longer use them. However, they did come through in a pinch - but the weekly calls got to be way to much after a while! Plus their policy to not accept checks made life very hard. I had to make sure I had a credit card with enough free $ on it to pay them each week.

Terclou – I work at RAC (not that location) and I hear you. Speaking personally, if I didn’t know to expect it, that call would likely have annoyed me too. Since customer rental agreements expire each week (or month, depending on how you set it up with your store) it is RAC’s policy to call to renew the agreement each week and the people at the store should have explained that to you so that it wouldn’t take you off guard. Please know that now that you have an on-time renewal payment under your belt, you can request that the store not call you the day payments are due – that they should just anticipate you’ll pay that day – and they should honor your request. All that said, I understand that your main point with your post is that you think that policy stinks, but I hope that this will help make the rest of your rental period go more smoothly so you can feel better about getting that $400 deal on the computer. (That is a good deal, btw!)

Rent-A-Center harassment

I currently rent a t.v. and sofa from Rent A Center. My payment was due on wed. 10/22/08. I was not able to make a payment this week. I spoke with an associate on thurs. 10/23/08 and explained my situation and told him that I would make a double payment on wed. 10/29/08 which was never a problem since I have done that in the past. Rent A Center called me, my brother, and my parents on friday 10/24/08, sat 10/25/08, monday 10/27/08, and tueday 10/28/08 looking for a payment. Rent A Center has my cell phone number and work phone number. Are they allowed to harass my family members for a payment? A response would be greatly appreciated.

This is a major complaint. I have worked with rent a center for 20 years and have never been treated so badly. I am dealing with your center in Tifton, Ga. I have been lied to on several occasions and received very poor service due to this. I bought a washer from your company and the warranty (which I was told would cover EVERYTHING) I sent it in due to the locking mechanism. Three weeks later I was told it would cost me 300.00 to fix it. It was not covered under the warranty. I was not told why. I told them to send it back to me with the Estimate and told they would have to get a copy faxed to them and would send it. I received my washer with a new scratch and no paperwork. I had to call twice to set up the pick up and three days and several call to get it back. Kim is the one who I worked with (she is the only one answering the phone. She had to talk to Marcus every time and would call me back which she never did. My washer is not fixed I have no idea what is wrong and now I have to have a private worker some and charge to give me a Estimate on what is wrong.
I have worked with Marcus and have never been treated so rudely. I needed to change my payment schedule and received nothing but grief. I pay by computer due to the fact I NEVER want to step foot in this store again. I will Never work with you company again. I have a washer that does not work, I have a few payment on another item and once that is done I am done. I can not believe after 20 years one store can treat someone so badly that they will never ever deal with you gain. Bit they did it. I will post this to BB and tell my family and friends about this. So I do not think I am the only one who will decide to never deal with your company again.

Rent-A-Center out of money and furniture

I had dealt with this company a couple of times. Most people think it is dumb but actually it can be okay if you pay off your purchase within three months. And that is what I do. Well, my son was moving back in and needed a bedroom set I suggested that we check out Rental Center in Redlands California. I ask for a use bedrooms set the guy that handle us seem nice and said he wanted to show my son a few new ones that was in a book. My son chose one filled out the application and was told he would get delivery on Monday. Both my son and I work at night no delivery during the day. I did not want to deal with the situation because I work a twelve hour shift. I also purchase a orange livingroom set. It was use but it was in excellent condition and could not beat the price. On thursday I finally called Rent A Center and ask where funiture the guy Steve could not figure out why it was not deliver. So I ask for delivery on the next day which would have been Friday October 3 2008, they agreed between 2 and 4. Five oclock no call or funiture. I call RC and I was told they would not deliver because someone did not come to work. I explain to them that was unacceptable and I wanted deliver the same day. They aggreed and also told me they did not contact me because they did not have my current number. When they finally came to my door I glanced at the paper work and said how can you guys tell me you did not call me when my phone number is written on your paper work, in my son's handwriting. The rude African American (it's okay I am African American myself) went off say he did not have that paper work with him when he came our on Monday. I said and it was not available to you when you got back to your store? He went on to threaten me that he would be my account manager I should basically (not in these words) but should not cause trouble. He wanted to see the room that the funiture would be deliver in. My son showed him. He goes to his truck stays there for about 15 minutes. He comes back and say well, we cannot deliver your funiture because we did not get this sign off. Okay you must remember that he claim they tried to deliver it on Monday and now it is Friday. And he is just now discovering that the manager did not sign off on the application. We argue at my door and I ask if we could get our money back. He said yes let me call the assistant manager and tell him that you will be back in to get your money. The entire time he is acting like I have done something wrong. But I am the person that gave my son's funiture away and had given my own funiture away anticipating to get replacement. When I spoke to the assitant manager he told me I could not get my money back because they were close and he had locked the safe. Amazing don't you think.

I then phone the corp. 800 number and someone called me back and ask me what happen? I explain to her what happen then she said okay someone will be calling you back within 24 hours. I can bet you that 24 hours from now I can write again and let you know no one has call me. So when she told me that I was mad as can be. And she said why are you now yelling? I said because I am not sure why did you call if you were not going to help out with the problem. She said okay bye someone will call you in 24 hours.

Where does my problem lies. No one ever told me I am sorry for this problem. No one ever ask me how can we right this wrong you are feeling. No one ever said our intention was not to have all these situation happen. They have just pass the buck I am out of money and funiture.

Rent-A-Center harassing phone calls

I am not a Rent a Center customer and have never even been in one of their stores before. They have been calling me for weeks looking for someone else and I have repeatedly told them that this isn't the person they're looking for, that I recently got this phone number, and asked them to quit calling me. If anything, this caused their calls to become more persistent and they get really rude like I'm lying to them or something. I don't know how many managers and employees I spoke to, each of them saying that my number had been removed from the system and I would not recieve a call again.

I'm sure they hear that excuse all the time, but does it not occur to them that it might be true in some cases? These people are awful, based on that I would never do business with them.

Rent-A-Center herrassing calls

I have repeatily asked the employees to stop calling me 2 and three times a day including additional calls to my wife, also two and three times a day. My god this bill is like $17.00 a week. I just finished paying off early a $3, 000.00 bedroom set and a $3000.00 livingroom set. He tried to rip me off whe I was paying off those items. These people are so crooked they stink. One day the manager called me 6 times. I have called the district manager and spoke with him once. Now he wont answer the phone or return my calls. I owe I believe 100.00 or so. If I were to look at my contract I bet It's less than that. Plus I have paid a "CLUB" fee which nowhere in the contract it is mentioned. $3.00 per item per week for the last year plus. They come up with late fees and whatever they think of. Please help me with this.

I have seen some rip offs in my life but Rent A Center has got to be the worst ever! On a $450.00 sale, NOT RENT, over $300 paid. Late 2X but always paid. Went in to pay and they said "nope" coming to get the furniture! Even if I wanted to pay it off, nope! So that's how they make their money by ripping people off, then reselling it again! And wasn't repaired as they said they would! I've never seen a business this bad in my life and I'm 70 years old. This was my grandson. NEVER EVER do business with them. A shame!

I will not ever go back to RAC for anything. When trying to get a hold of these so call workers they never return phone calls unless they want their money. They con people and I feel if the people would go to the BBB. or Consumer Affair maybe they will see what type of people they are as for me they gave me THREE different prices for the 90 days. They can not get their prices together can they. As a consumer I feel cheated on the way they handle customers. We need to stand together and NOT let these people get away from treating people like nothing. Call the BBB or the Consumer Affairs to let them know how RAC treats the consumer.

Don't buy stuff at Rent-A-Center. Don't you realize that you end up paying at least 3 times what the article is worth? Buy used from a private owner cash up. If you can't afford that, do without. I think anyone is a fool to buy stuff on time like this. Places like this thrive on the gullibility of the poor, the uneducated, dollar millionaires, people who find it necessary you live beyond their means. I realize some have a legitimate need, such as a refrigerator, but from what I have seen it's unnecessary items like TV's, stereos, etc. rent a centre is making millions on such irresponsible behaviour. Get a clue!

Im a very unhappy customer at this point and all they have to say is that i should choose a smaller tv.i just made my first payment on a 42 inch panasonic plasma tv.when we did the contracts and the paper work, the sales person failed to point out that there was tax and insurance that would make the price go from 27.99 to 37.00. im pretty pissed thats 10 bucks a week more that i have to pay every week for the next 2 years.the manager wsa completely rude and spoke to me like i was an idiot, when i asked why it was 10 dollars more than we planned on, im probably going to give the tv back and put one on layaway at k mart, the same tv for half the price, i was dumb to be sold on this deal, im never going there again.

Rent-A-Center overcharges

I always pay on time and pay off in 90days. But when its time to pay-off my amount is always different from theirs. I always ask why and they always come out with surcharges or taxes, But I've added my tax and surcharges are I thought only suppose to be paid if you continue to rent. they even said one time that when you pay extra money on one item that the money sits their like piggy bank money. What the *** are they talking about? It's a bunch of excuses they have for their mistakes, but anyway I guess that's how it is at rac.

Rent-A-Center roaches in electronics

We had to rent a TV while ours was being repaired. The first TV's sound was so bad that you could not hear anything except the background noise. The 2nd TV that RAC brought was full of Roaches. As soon as it warmed they swarmed every where. Their comment was "I'm sorry"...It cost us big $$$ to fumagate and don't know if we got rid of all the roaches or not. Will go without a TV before I would rent from RAC again. The store is in Leavenworth Kansas. This is a health hazard that is reportable to the Health Dept.

Based on your immature post on here, you're probably one of those people that only pays for your items that you're RENTING from RAC, when you feel like it.

If you can't afford the payments, simply return the items, and save up the money to buy brand new from elsewhere. Oh! Or even better. GO WITHOUT.

I have been a customer of RAC for MANY years, and before I was, my father was. While items are more expensive once they're paid off, they are quality products, when you need them. I've never had any complaints about RAC and I never will.

Rent-A-Center bait & switch

I had to move unexpectedly and found myself without furniture or much in the way of savings when I did. I was able to purchase everything I needed for my move with the exception of a Sofa & Loveseat. Against my better judgment, I saw an Advertisement for a Sofa & Loveseat set at Rent-A-Center for $80/mos. and decided to try that out, knowing I could go the 90-days Same As Cash Price if they turned out to be as big of dirt-bags as their reputation makes them out to be (the set was an Ashley Furniture set that was about 45% higher than the Ashley Store price so it didn't seem like too steep of a risk). I placed my order online and was called back shortly by a representative from the local store.

The representative was very polite and courteous. So, I wasn't too bothered with the fact that they didn't have the Model # of the item I had ordered online. When I told her it was the one on sale in the current Advertisement she got even more confused. She excused herself from the conversation and came back 5 minutes later to tell me that they do have the Advertised set, but in Brown, not Black. I told her that was acceptable. She gave me a price quote for $80/mo. and took my payment information and told me they could arrange delivery once I got into the store to sign the paperwork.

An hour later I show up at the store to sign the paperwork and they show me the Sofa & Loveseat set which is different than what they had in the Advertisement. When they have me sign the paperwork, the price was $130/mo., rather than the advertised $80/mo. Considering I was going to go the 90 days Same As Cash Route I didn't sweat it, but I did mention it. They took the paperwork and went into the warehouse and came back saying it was indeed their mistake, the price was going to be $179/mo. for that set. I thought maybe the local Advertisement might be different than the one shown to me online so I grabbed the local Advertisement at the counter and it had the same $80/mo. set on the cover. I asked if could have the Advertised set instead. They assured me that's what I would be getting for the $179/mo. instead of the $80/mo. (Can't I have the one Advertised for $80/mo. for $80/mo. or is that too much to ask?)

Well, if they won't give the Advertised item for the Advertised price, and it is going to be more than twice the advertised price, I decided I liked a cheaper floor model that they had any way while being given the run-around. It was $129/mo. set according to the sign on the item. I was given a Contract for that set at $129/mo. which I signed, and I paid for one month in full and scheduled a delivery, making sure that I was setup for monthly payments.

The delivery was scheduled for a week later after they received their first payment. When the scheduled window of delivery was missed I called inquiring about it and to confirm my delivery was indeed scheduled for today (as I had to take 4 hours off of work to be there for the delivery window they had scheduled). In response, they called all the references I had provided, apparently in a rather stand-offish manner (one lasting over 30 minutes). The scheduled time was missed by about 3 1/2 hours, but at least it was on the day they said it would be. They are a few hours worse than the Cable Guy, but a day ahead of UPS, still not too much of a harm or foul (apart from harassing my friends and family over the phone). I was a little uneasy but still things weren't seeming bad until it came time to sign for the delivery. The delivery papers stated my payment would be $179/bi-weekly instead of the $129/mo that I had signed previously...and my next payment would be due in 1 week, not in 3 weeks as per the contract!

So, now...I'm not sure what to think or do. I was planning on paying off the set at the Cash Price on my Birthday in 5 weeks. However, now I'm not so sure if they are going to honor the Cash Price or not, since if they cannot honor the Quoted Price nor the Contractual Price and continue to Bait & Switch me, then Bait & Switch is probably all I can expect from them. Maybe it's better I just walk away from the 1st Month payment I paid before I get any deeper and have them pick their furniture back up.

Besides, if they are already harassing my references when I was one month paid ahead, what is it going to be like when I get two or three weeks closer to my payment date? I value my friends and family more than I value $129.

If this is any indicator of how Rent-A-Center does business then it's no business I want to deal with ever again.

Rent-A-Center scam

Even though I have heard nothing positive about RAC, I found myself in a position that I needed a new couch and didn't have the cash upfront to pay for it so I reluctantly filled out the papers to have a couch delivered. It seems in signing the rental agreement, I was also signing up to get called every hour when I'm late with a payment and having their deliverymen/goons actually come to my apartment and pound on my doors 2x a day. This last time, I wasn't even late and they were on the horn, leaving me message after message and sitting out in my parking lot waiting and peeping in windows. It's to the point where I am afraid to answer the door or even step outside my door. My kids are afraid to play outside because of the Rent-A-Center people! It's crazy that a business is allowed to harrass people to this extent.

Rent-A-Center awful experience

I rented a playstation 3 from Rent a center. IT was for 63 weeks at like 33.00 a week or so. I lost my job at about at about payment 38. I was going to give them their ps3 cause i couldn't afford it. They started there strong arm and talking tough collection practices. I decided to file a chapter 13 bankruptcy since i was falling behind on everything else. My father is a practicing bankruptcy law for over 30 yrs and he filed on my behalf. Rac was listed as a creditor. They come to my house when my 1 yr old son is sleeping and start knocking so hard knocking pics of the wall and ringing my door bell consistently. I have had enough of this crap from them and confronted them on my front porch. The one manager there starting cussing out my wife which is not going to fly then start cussing at me. I told him he needs to contact my bankruptcy lawyer and that he is in violation of the automatic stay and they we are calling the cops cause you refuse to leave. He tells us are bk lawyer is wrong that you cant file bk on us. He continued on saying how he has worked at rac for 8 yrs and know the laws but he didn't know what a automatic stay was nice one. he continued on saying how he was going to take me to court etc. The cops finally did arrive and made them leave after blocking our driveway. I cant believe that someone that has a high school diploma to get hired at rac would have more knowledge than someone with a law degree and been a practicing attorney since 1973. My lawyer did file a lawsuit against rac. I did win against them and the judge said that the state of Missouri considers this a 'executor contract' and can be eliminated during bankruptcy. I got to keep my items and Rac was to pay 6k into my bankruptcy to disperse between my creditors. I later found out the manager got fired. These bozos bark is bigger than there bite it might cost you a ittle money but it was worth every bit to punch them right back in the mouth. DON'T BE SCARED OF THEM.

I purchased a bed went in after work yesterday morning 🌄 told the manager dude I work 3rd shift and need to sleep. There wasn't much in the store there was a queen bed frame no mattress. I suggested getting one from another store instead he tried to sell me a used one with stains on them for $75. When the bed get to my house the frame/headboard is not new the speakers in it don't work and the mattress they brought was blew up like a balloon stained and stinking. The mattress wouldn't even lay flat so they took it back out to their van. Mind you it's almost 6pm now and I have not been to sleep and gotta work at 10 pm. The delivery guys call the store manager and he said he would contact another store about a mattress and call me that was 6 pm yesterday I've worked a full 10 hr shift and I still can't lay down and rest cause I still have no mattress and have not heard nothing from this store manager and by the looks of it I'm not gonna get any rest today either. This has been the worse customer service I've ever experienced and the store manager basically said **ck me and the sleep I need. I don't just need a frame what am I gonna do sleep on it? At this point cancel this I'm done and don't expect to get a dime from me

I recently rented a living room set from RAC. I was hesitant about renting it after a friend of mine told me that they delivered a bed to him and brought *** roaches into his house. I have been a very good costumer for over 10 years. I spoke with the manager and he assured me that it was the other store that had delivered the bed (there are two stores in my town Hornell NY) He also assured me that the problem was taken care of. Last night a little over a week of having the furniture I noticed a bug crawling on my wall heading to a swag hanging on my wall. I yelled to my husband that I wanted to know if this was a *** roach. He is from mexico so I knew he would know if it was or not because I didn't know what they looked like. It sure was and it was carrying eggs. I was so pissed I tried to call the store but it was already closed this was just last night and today is Sunday and they are not open. I don't know what to do because I had them take away my old furniture when they brought the new furniture. I know that they will send someone to get rid of them but its the fact that they are not doing there jobs for something like this to happen. I am not paying to have these disgusting bugs brought into my house. I plan to go to the papers and to the health department regarding this problem. Who knows how many other people have had *** roaches brought into their house and don't realize it yet. They obviously have an infestation in there store especially since my furniture came directly from the store floor. I would like to know what the policy is supposed to be when an item is returned to the store. You would think that they spray the stuff or do something knowing that there is a possibility of something like this happening. When I am done letting people know what is going on I will be surprised if anyone does business with RAC again!

Not to mention he is big and fat and just nasty looking and there are rumors he is a child molestor and likes giving oral to men. I contacted the headquarters to report such unprofessionalism. I mean who writes down customers phone numbers for their own personal benefit. What a stranger funny dude.

The fact that he already paid 38 payments x $33.00 a week which =$1254.00 for a $599.00 PS3. The judge would have had serious issue about rent-a-center trying to recover such merchandise. Anybody that definds Rent-a-Center is either an employee or an idiot. There are law suit agaist rent-a-center all over the country for good reason.

In washington state i was a manager for 10yrs and had the manager just went to court the PS3 would have to be returned. If you rent a car and try to claim it in a bankruptcy you think you could keep the car? It is a lease not a secured credit so go ahead and try to claim bankruptcy on RAC any educated attorney will tell you you cant. If you cant afford it rteturn it. What you did is steal and i would call you a thief!

i honestly hope that no one takes your bad advice. the contracts are actually lease agreements. the reason you were allowed to keep the merchandise is because they violated the stay order. if the manager had been educated, he would know that all he had to do was appear at a discovery hearing where creditors make their claims, and you would have had to return the merchandise. his violation left it up to the discretion of the judge as to what to do. on another note...you may never rent again as most rent-to-owns share information like that. you had to file bankruptcy, so you screwed a lot more people than just rent-a-center. rent-to-own companies are set up for people just like you. unfortunately it seems that you are shady in all of your dealings. good luck with that philosophy...thief

Rent-A-Center contract

my brother had recently been released from state prison, so when he came out he stayed with my mother in law to help him get back on his feet. He finally got a job, wanted to purchase a T.V. but he did not have credit nor the full amount so he decided to go with RAC. He did not have stability at my mother in laws address nor any mail under his name with my mother in laws address. So RAC advise him to tell my MIL to come in to sign a form that will verify he lives there. He moved out after receiving the merchandise and has defaulted on the contract. Will my MIL is getting calls from RAC advising her she signed the contract and is responsible for the merchandise, my mil has explained to RAC that the RAC employee advise her it was just to verify the her son lived there at her current address. These so called professional are constanly harassing her and telling her they are going to file charges and what not. I tried to speak with them to let them know RAC employee would not listen and he said what he had to say and hung. RAC employees call from a private #. HELP

before she can even begin to fight back (if necessary), you need to see whatever paper it is that your MIL signed.
Is it some kind of co-signer agreement? If it is, she should be prepared to pay up.

Maybe co-signing for an ex-con isn't the smartest move she could have made. But that doesn't mean Rent-A-Center should be the one to take the loss..

Rent-A-Center negative alert

Stupid me... Yeah... After shopping around online for a box spring and mattress, I found I could buy a brand new one from rent-a-center fairly cheap and on a 90 day same as cash... So why not? I paid the first payment, then the second one by mail (Got a call from them the day it was due to ask me when I was coming in even though I had already mailed it two days earlier. So I paid the third and final payment in person, dropping off a check...

So ok, I have my new bed, it's paid for right? Wrong! Two weeks go by and I get a call from who else, rent-a-center... And i'm told they don't take checks. You see, they still never deposited my check. Well, it pissed me off, especially calling me at work, when, I had specifically told them never to call me at work when I signed the paperwork. It's against' the law after you inform them of that. So yeah, I procrastinated and thought about if I should even go in to take them cash. But then, oh yeah, the calls started, once a day, twice... At home and at work as well. The more they called the more I began standing on principal and determined not to give in. After all, they had my check, I paid them! And I had paid them 5 days before it was due... So it wasn't my problem they now didn't want to accept a check. Right? If they would have deposited it or presented it for payment at my bank... That would have been different, but they never did. Now, three weeks go by from march 1st to march 27th, and hey, several phone calls to work, me calling them and now yelling at them not to call me at work, and guess what, in walk not one but two of their salespeople, check in hand, demanding, I cash it right there and then. Yeah, I am suppose to hand them cash... Yeah right! They toss the check at me... I escort them outside and inform them it is against the law to harass a person at their place of work to collect a debt, and that I have already called my attorney... So they now leave... Threatening to talk to their own attorney. Now, mind you, I have paid two of three payments, on time and early, and paid the third payment 5 days early, but they won't accept my check and didn't notify me of that until two weeks after giving it to them. Now they leave and yeah, leave me with the check, dated all the way back march 1st, never having been presented to my bank at all! So what to do? I'm going to get a cashiers check, state on it that it is the replacement check for a refused check and send it by registered mail to rent-a-center along with filing a complaint with the better business bureau and well, yeah, writing out the story online for all to see. By the way... All of these concerns a simple small check in the amount of $116.22. Go figure. But it is the principle of the matter... Isn't it? Somebody should tell rent-a-center that maybe why they are having problems is that they don't understand that some people have two and three jobs and can't just drop everything to make a second trip from morton to peoria just to hand them cash back instead of them simply depositing the check in the first place! You know... Crap happens in life, and sometimes, checks are bad... I get that, but when a business doesn't even bother to make a deposit... Why stay in business..., because I gave them a good check and I never had given them a bad one. Or is this business simply only taking in cash and may not even have a bank account so they can dodge taxes? Interesting question isn't it... Oh by the way, that new box spring and mattress I bought from them... No way it was new! So yeah... Stupid me... So does anyone want any of these bed bugs?

Rent-A-Center thieves

I was renting several items from a different rent to own for over a year, and only had 2 payments left to make and they were mine! Then without notice rent a centre bought them out, I did not know about it until I went to make a payment and the store was closed down, I called the stores old number and was routed to rent a centre. I told them that I only had the 2 payments left and would like to make my payment.

The next morning they were knocking on my door and basically forced their way in and took all my stuff! When I asked what was going on, I was told that I could come in and re-rent it with a new contract. So I went in and they wanted to start charging me from square 1, as if I had not made 1 payment to the other company! I showed them every receipt I had from the other store, they said the other store did not keep accurate records and therefore they could not verify that I actually had purchased the stuff from them.

Come on now! Do you have to be a detective to figure out all the clues? receipts, I WAS in possession of the items until you genius's stole it all!

So, I reported it to the local police and rent a centre told them I was late making my payment, so the repossessed it.

The only thing I could do was to take them to court, but I chickened out after the harassing phone calls.
