Cymax is a fraudulent company perpetrating fraud on unwitting consumers.
I ordered an item which was damaged when I received it 11 days later. I was told a replacement item would arrive within 10 business days. A replacement was never received. I was also told that if their carrier did not pickup the damaged item within 10 days to dispose of the item. I disposed of the damaged item 16 later...still no replacement...still no refund...
I've disputed the charge with my credit card company and also filed a complaint with the Canadian Better Business Bureau.
The president of the company is Arash Fasihi. I recommend a class action lawsuit againt Mr. Fasihi and his fradulent company.

did not ship item
I placed an order on Jan. 8, 2010 with Cymax Stores and they promised to ship my item by Jan. 12, 2010. They charged my credit card on 1/8/10. I called this morning and the Customer Rep. on the other end reported that the supplier (morefireplaces.com) had shipped my item but, there is no tracking information at this time. She also stated "I don't know what is going on" I let her know that I would be calling back by the end of today for my tracking information. If she did not have the tracking information I would be calling Cymax Store back to cancel my order.
DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY. THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY!

no shipping and terrible customer service
Cymax has awful shipping practices and terrible customer service. I ordered from Cymax because they offered the lowest price for what I was looking for and had free shipping. After I placed my order, I was very surprised to receive an email saying it would be 1 to 2 weeks before the product shipped. Three weeks later, it had still not shipped. I called customer service and was on hold for a half hour. I called back and pressed "1" for PLACING an order and got a customer service representative right away. When I told them I had a question about an existing order, they put me on hold again. I waited 15 minutes before hanging up and calling my credit card company to dispute the charges from Cymax. I never did receive my product -- though they did refund my credit card. After more searching I found the product even cheaper at CSNstores.com -- which delivered my product promptly!

It is impossible to reach their customer service, they make you wait and wait and wait on the phone for hours, they do have a service where you can leave a call-back number to be reached later, but it's very easy to miss that call. Overall, this company provides zero customer service. They don't have an email address for their customer service either! I will not go back to shop here.
NEVER buy anthing from this company or you would lose every dime if you return your item. They will charge everything from restocking fee, shipping fee, return shipping fee...just to make sure you'll keep your product even though you are not happy with it.

And I wasn't happy with the order so I tried to return it, and here is all fee that I have to pay to return it. It's absolutely absurd !

Total Refund Due: $ 145.89
That doesn't count the return shipping that I have pay out of my pocket.
Basically, I'd lose 50% of my money if I return it.

DO NOT ORDER FROM CYMAX! I ordered a Christmas present for my son from them on December 6th, never received tracking information, so I called and emailed customer service several times with no response. I finally called and CANCELLED my order on Dec. 16th when I was pretty clear that I wasn't going to get my order in time for Christmas. After canceling my order I received an email that it shipped that day but they can't give me a tracking number? I received another email two days later stating that the item has not been shipped and is on backorder! Clearly some huge communication problems going on with this company. Just got off the phone with them again today, Dec. 19th to cancel my order for the SECOND time!

received damaged item
I received a fireplace that was damaged upon arrival, and Cymax refused to replace it at no cost to us. I REALLY wish I had found these reviews prior to ordering! What a POS company!
I accepted delivery of our headboard as the box looked fine. Fed Ex drivers cannot wait until the box is unpacked. When we opened the box, the headboard was badly damaged. There was no packing in the box and it was cracked throughout. I advised Cymax on two occasions, and they finally sent me directions. In order to received a replacement baseboard, I had to contact a charity, have them pick it up and give me a receipt showing the full cost of the baseboard. This was not in the originally return policy. Now I have no headboard and no communication from Cymax.
awful company
I ordered a computer desk yesterday at Cymax.com. I neglected to research the company, or I would have never placed an order from them, based on all the bad reviews I have read. I contacted the company 2 hours after placing my order, to cancel it. They said they would have to check to see if it had been shipped - I don't think there is any chance that it had been shipped from the manufacturer in 2 hours! They said they would send me an email within 48 hours to let me know if the order could be cancelled. 10 minutes later, I get a UPS tracking number --- but of course, UPS has no info on that tracking number. I called my credit card company, and as soon as the charge is posted, I am getting it taken off, and I am going to refuse delivery. I think it is terrible that a company does business in such a manner.

takes money and says it is backordered
Everyone else was out of stock on the expensive digital wall clock I wanted, but these guys had it. So, I ordered it using PayPal.
Immediately after clearing my transaction for $200 they sent me an email notifying me that the item was out of stock, they wouldn't have it for two months, and that I would be put on a waiting list.
I called to cancel my order and got the runaround about how they would have to contact the people in the cancellations department.
I didn't wait; I opened a PayPal dispute. These guys seem really fishy to me.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Cymax's 110% price match is a joke! The only way they will meet a competitor's price is if they can go on the internet, purchase the exact same items and, here's the kicker, be able to have them shipped with "White Glove Platinum" shipping (the only shipping available for certain items!). Their web site states that the "White Glove Platinum" is: "...the highest level of home assembly service. Delivery inside your residence to the room of your choice (includes carrying the product up two (2) flights of stairs from the threshold*). The carrier will unpack the product and remove the packaging for you. They will also provide 30 minutes of light setup that requires basic tools (e.g. pieces will be screwed or bolted together, set next to each other, or on top of each other)." Can you say FALSE ADVERTISING?!

delivered damaged goods, won't fix
We ordered a dining room table, it arrived late, but that just happens sometimes. What was not OK was that it was defective, damaged, and they have STILL not replaced it nor refunded our money nearly 6 months later.
After dealing with their customer service we were initially told a complete replacement would be sent within 7 days, then they started giving us the run around, using stalling tactics, etc... at the 3 month point we reversed charges with our credit card company. That at least helped to get their attention. So they promised to send out replacements, so only half the replacements arrived, not the entire set and the replacements were damaged AS WELL!
I ordered from moderlinefurniture.com which I very sadly found out is a shell company of CyMax stores... what an awful experience. I still don't have our dining room table and chairs, and it has been nearly 6 months.
To make matters worse the delivery company they used for the initial delivery left my wife feeling unsafe while they were in the home, they swore at each other, and were extremely rude, and of course caused even further damage to the furniture when they went to assemble it.

Placed an order with them they clearly stated that they will ship it in 1-2 days and delivery within a week, its 3 weeks and they haven't shipped it yet. Now they are not letting my cancel it either, they keep saying that it will take 1 day or 2 day to cancel and in mean time if we ship it you must accept it. i waited for 2 days still same story to wait another 1 or 2 day and so on and so forth. I have filed a complain with FTC.
I SEE THAT THERE ARE TONS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WE SHOULD ALSO RAISE FORMAL COMPLAINT TO FTC.GOV. so no one else go through this.

The standard response from Cymax customer service is 24 to 48 hours. It is just their way of pitting you off. In the meantime, they have your money. If you are considering buying from them; STOP. The comments are true.
backorder nightmare
Placed an order for a chair on 9/9 ... On the website said it would be shipped no later than 9/15 ... On 9/24 I called asking where the chair was or a tracking number. Representative Kieran told me item was back ordered until October. I told her to cancel order since I needed the chair prior to October. On monday I received an email informing me that the chair was shipped and was given a tracking number, also in the email was informed that if I refused order a 20% restocking fee would be applied to order.. What in the world? I cancel the order and suddenly the back ordered chair shows up? If I had never called would the chair still have been shipped? This company needs to get better control management and customer service. Will NOT order from them again.

fraudulent transaction
Had I read about Cymax online, I would never had placed this order!
What happened was I ordered a Jewelry Armoire (which wasnt advertised as being out of stock) from MoreAccentFurniture.com. What I didn't know is that they are a "Cymax Store". So, when it was time to enter in my CC info, I paid Cymax. No big deal, right? WRONG!
BTW - itsn't it weird that Cymax has all these "sub-stores" online? Why not just sell everything via Cymax.com? (sounds like they are trying to hide, to me)
I am fully aware of internet scams and to be careful of everything you do on the internet. I had placed an order for a Jewelry Armore (for myself) through www.EverythingFurniture.com last year, and that transaction went perfectly! So, I didnt think twice about this transaction since I had success with a furniture online retailer once before.
I had a feeling that something was wrong when the 450 dollars was deducted from my account and I hadnt recieved a confirmation email telling me that my item shipped. (the deduction was taken on a wedneday, I got suspicious on friday when I didnt hear anything)
So, I called Cymax that friday morning, around 10am. They said they had no shipping info for me, but would make a note in my account regarding the shipping status and would get back to me as soon as the item ships.
I thought that was too odd? I did a google search and found not only this website, but several other complaints boards and they all listed complaints. Some of the complaints sounded like what I was experiencing.
So, I called the Manufacturer directly. The informed me that the particular Armoire I ordered was discontinued.
So, now I call Cymax back on that same friday - this time at 5pm. I wanted to know the status of my item. They put me on hold for 10 minutes, and when they came back they informed me that they had the Manufacturer on the phone and didnt want me to stay on hold for too long - they would contact me back later in the day (mind you, its 5pm already) I told Maria (the girl from Cymax) that i would gladly hold, and I also told her that I spoke to the Manufacturer, and they informed me that the item was discontinued. I said to Maria that I wasnt sure why Cymax would deduct money from my account if an item is discontinued, and was technically never ordered? She said "oh, ok they told you that?" And, she puts me on hold...
So, here is how my story ends - Maria eventually comes back on the phone, tells me I am right about the item being discontinued, and states that I will recieve a confirmation email on my refund. (i dont want an email, I want a FULL refund) I said thank you, hung up, then went right over to my bank and filed a fraudulent claim.
Right now, my bank is investigating this transaction.
Whatever you do - dont order from Cymax. And, the next time you order from a "3rd party billing company" do some research on them. I wish I had!

horrible company
STOP! Don't buy from Cymax they lie about their easy return policy.
We purchased the prepac sonoma bed set. it was the cheapest of the cheapest malamine with thee thinnest black laminate on top I've ever seen.
When we went to return it through their, 30 day hassle free easy return poilicy, we were told we'd have to pay the cost that it took them to ship to us, we'd have to send it back at our expense through UPS or Fed Ex.
to add insult to injury they said there would be a 30% restocking fee- mentioned no where on the site.
All that added up pretty much reaches the cost of the furniture- something they are well aware of, they were not willing to work with us to resolve this at all.
We'll never but from Cymax again, and tell all our friends not to.

awful post order follow up
Such an awful store, I wish I had checked some online reviews before placing an order with them.
unlike most stores where you get pretty much an update every day about the order status, with Cymax you'll get to know whats happening with your order only if you prod them by using the contact us link (I used google checkout, and I guess because of that they had to give a response by a certain time frame).
5 days after placing the order, I saw no updates on the status, so I contacted them about the order. Then I receive this repsonse:
"Thank you for your inquiry.
As indicated on the product webpage, from the time of your order, the manufacturer requires 3-5 business days to process and prepare this item for delivery. Tracking information should be automatically emailed to you 24-48 hours after the item has shipped out.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further questions or concerns.

I thought there was a long weekend, so leaving the day I ordered and the holidays in the week, let me wait until it is 5 full business days.
Then I sent them a request to cancel the order because I had no more patience for these idiots to deliver the product I ordered.

These idiots of Nth order seem to be some understaffed, unprofessional company with the sole intention of getting the orders. There is no indication of whether the item is in stock or not (nor do they intend to say that until the customer gives the order)
This was the first time I was buyng anything from cymax, I guess this will be the last time too!
PS: I made a mistake of assuming that google checkout means better service. when you use it, use it thinking it like just another payment option (like Visa, Mastercard etc).

extremely late delivery/broken promises/lack of customer service
One of my worst online buying experiences and I've been purchasing online for many years. I ordered
4 stools - 2 differenet types. A partial shipment was made - late. The other stools did not arrive - weeks passed - a couple
of months passed. Email was never answsered. I got incorrect status info from phone call. It was just awful and I never received
an apology. I was finally sent the stools after I had purchased some elsewhere and contacted my credit card company for reimbursement. I would
advise against doing any business with this company.

awful customer service and lack of ethics
Ordered a piece of children's furniture from them.
Manufacturer was Berg Industries.
According to their website swatch information, we ordered a color called "Nutmeg".
When the piece arrives, it is a lighter color -- and not just a natural variation. We refuse delivery.
After consulting with other websites that carry Berg furniture, we realize that the Cymax's website had a mistake on the color swatches -- they had reversed "Nutmeg" and "Chestnut".
After we alert them to this fact, they update their website (we had screen captures from before) and tell us that we have to pay for the unit to be shipped back to the manufacturer.
They also procede to tell us that they will not exchange it for the correct color (Chestnut), as we ordered "Nutmeg".
Complete lack of ethics -- they had the wrong color palette on their website which caused us to order the wrong color, then they deny the mistake and blame us.
Beware.

I ordered a TV stand for a plasma tv and components. There were no dimensions for the distance between the shelves. When the unit arrived the space between shelves was 5.5" and my receiver and center channel and DVR would not fit on either shelf. I called to inquire about returning and got a very rude customer service rep by the name of Josh at extension 350. He was argumentative, rude, and lacking any interpersonal or basic customer service skills. I asked to speak to a Senior Support Specialist who was very polite but failed to get back to me when promised. I caution everyone to be very wary about ordering anything from this company. Restocking fees are 20%, you pay return shipping which means it basically isn't worthwhile to return something. So in essence they have a "NO RETURNS POLICY" even when they are at fault. Check out other sites, which post dimensions and return policies clearly.

I ordered a 1 door linen cabinet and it cames damaged. Opened the box and someone had already tried to put this cabinet together.

non delivery
Cymax immediately charged my card the $600+ when I ordered four barstools. Delivery was predicted within two weeks, with tracking information promised as soon as items shipped. After about ten days I called to inquire about the status of the order, was told there was no information available, but was guaranteed a reply within 24 hours. Seven days later, I had not received any reply, and I called again to inquire why they had my money when they couldn't even tell me whether the product was available or not. They predicted availability in another month, and I promptly canceled the order. I do a great deal of online shopping, and Cymax provided me with the most unpleasant experience ever. I work in customer service myself, and I would be without a job if I was as indifferent to my customers as their staff is. Bottom line- avoid Cymax even if it means paying a little more.

I ordered a train table set for my three year old son for christmas. The site said it would be delivered one week before christmas at the latest. I am sitting here the day before christmas eve and now realize I will not get it in time. I will not get the one thing my son wanted most from santa. How do I explain that! I have tried to call over the past few days and even when I call at 7am sharp when the lines open...I can't get through. I have sat on hold for over two and a half hours with no one picking up the line. I have sent three e-mails and left two messages with no reply. This is the worst company ever!
receiving damaged item
I purchased a dresser from Cymax and the dresser arrived at my house damaged. The delivery company Cymax uses could not deliver the item durning hours I am at home, as I work for a living. So, I had to agree to let the delivery company deliver the item while I was not at home and leave it at my door. When I came home and opened the contents, I discovered the item had been severly damaged. I then called Cymax and asked them to come pick up the damaged goods and refund my money or replace the item. Cymax then told me that because I did not sign for it, they could not refund my money or pick up the item unless I paid $175 restocking fee and and a $300+ shipping fee.
Here are there exact words " We would like to assist you by arranging for the necessary replacements to be sent. Regrettably, since the damage was not signed for or noted on the waybill, Cymax is unable to provide replacements free of charge".
People, these guys are unethical and have less then honest buisness practices. They are a Canadian company...which would explain a lot!
I called AMEX and they attempted to contact Cymax to resolve the issue and Cymax never responded to AMEX. As a result, my card was credited back.
My advise to you is to contact your CC company as soon as you think you are being scammed and have them charge back the amount.

I orded a King Mattress pad on Fri night. Monday night here(EST) I received a call from my sister that my mother had been taken to the hospital with a massive stroke. I called the co. to cancel the cover as no one would be here to receive it. She assured me it would be done as it had just been called in to the distributer and would not ship for at least 2 days. I called again the morning before we left for airport to check on it and was again told it would be stopped. When I arrived in NJ I checked my email and there was a letter from CYMAX telling me it was too late and it had been sent out on the 24th (2 days after my first call). I even promised to reorder when I got back as I need the pad for my bad back. So it will sit in my driveway uncovered or be stolen as there is no one to see to it until I return sometime in late April or May.They never even sent me a tracking number so I could have called and had a hold put on it or shipped back, so I really dont believe it has even been sent yet. I wish I had seen this site before I ordered and I hope those greedy pigs get their just awards. Now I will have to order another but it will not be from these bums.
