banking services / quicken loans
As a current brokerage client and former employee of Charles Schwab, I am pleased with their brokerage services. In my opinion, they offer the finest investing services in the industry. However, when it comes to the Schwab Bank and specifically Quicken Loans, their mortgage provider, services need improvement. I was approved for the renewal of my second credit line and was a step away from securing my credit line. This one step involved the visit to our home for the signing of the paperwork. Unfortunately, Quicken Loans would not identify who this person was or who this person worked for. After several attempts to learn this information, including contacts with a "Director" at Quicken Loans, I finally cancelled my application. My first credit line through Schwab Bank/Quicken Loans was trouble free but for some strange reason, the renewal was a horrible experience.
online brokerage account
I made the mistake of opening a joint Schwab account two weeks ago. I had been a Schwab customer years ago and never had a problem with them. Well, the new Schwab ain't the old Schwab! Right out of the box the website opened an individual account instead of the joint account. Then it blocked the account because my wife and I live in an RV. i am disabled and cannot afford the rent of a fancy apartment. Apparently, Schwab wants to see people in my situation stay that way--despite their move to commission-free brokerage on Oct. 7th. (Ever hear of new financial and bank bail-in rules? You could wind up with a bunch of your bank's stock instead of your money if it fails in a general financial emergency. I can't help but wonder if Schwab's intention is to attract the maximum amount of account funding possible...because I can't see any acceptable ways a discount brokerage can make money without commissions) I wrote to my Congressman and Senators pointing out I had Federal and State ID using this address where I reside. I then heard from a customer relations manager named Chance who told me my proof had been accepted and my account would be reopened on Friday Sept. 27th and that my wife would be added to the account by the close of business on Oct. 1st. I'm writing this on Oct. 2nd and the account is still blocked. My phone, E-mail and FAX messages to Chance have gone unanswered. Even if this is eventually resolved, I'd be terrified of giving these people any of my meagre savings. Can you imagine what would happen if they botched a trade or "lost" stocks in your account?
Broker ethics
My Mother was talked into letting a cs broker handle her account and he purchased over 30 funds with high maintenance fees, 12b-1 fees, management fees, and load fees. These funds were not top of the line funds compared to their benchmarks and only one was a Charles Schwab fund. How do you explain not putting money into your own company's funds. There were foreign funds, bond funds, and equity funds with poor track records and higher risks when she wanted to protect her principle and not lose money. The broker just made money for himself and cs with the all the extra fees, not the client. Absolutely unethical.
Holding my Money Hostage
I was laid off from my company in February. They were supposed to sent me my proceeds from my 401K plan. Instead Charles Schwab kept the funds and opened a Money Market account without my permission. They sent me a notice. I went to the local office, 30 minutes away, and they were completely uncooperative. They told me I had to go back home, get on the computer, create an account, wait 2-4 days while they "approve it", then they will email me a form to request my money, but the form must be MAILED back to them. Then they will process and get me my money. THIS IS CRAP. I can walk into a bank and access funds within a day or so. Not 2 weeks like these clowns. In the meantime, rent and bills go unpaid as I'm a single mom. What a scam!
I WANT MY MONEY!
I accidentally posted the comment twice. For those of you reading this, the signature of the person who kept contacting me is "Westlake Investment Team" who claims to be Schwab and its address on the bottom is also Schwabs address but anyone can copy that nowadays due to our available technology. It clearly states there that they are not the same as Charles Schwab but they are "affiliated". Never talk to anybody who is not from Charles Schwab or claims to be without making them verify themselves to you. I am new to this so I was naive and kept taking his calls every time. Today he even read to me my SSN but with all the fraud going on these days this should not have happened. I guess I was nervous because he kept reiterating the Patriot Act and it sounded so big and important. When I researched what it was about it was for the 911 event that the congress has signed this into law. I felt so harrassed and having gone through so much in the past 3 years and now being accused of being in violation of the Patriot Act is not entertaining to me especially he did not even explain what it was for exactly and how it is related to having an account full of penny stocks! He also could not even provide any verification if he really worked with Schwab. He was like: "umm, well... let me see, you can verify me through verify.com" or something. So, I had to search him through LinkedIn. I found him but the job experience didn't make sense to me. No wonder he probably doesn't know exactly what he is doing because he just started in 2019 according to his profile. If he knew what he was doing he would understand you cant have a DL if you do not have a valid SSN. DMV is very tough on their verification process! If you are new to Schwab please do not entertain any calls from outside or third-party callers claiming they are from Schwab unless they verify themselves. Ask for verification like their employee ID. There are so many scammers nowadays they will do everything to take your money. As I have said, I will try Schwab but I will definitely look into TD Ameritrade after all these.
Right now, I am on the phone with schwab. They are not letting me withdraw my account because according to them and the Patriot Act I cannot continue with Schwab. My SSN's last name is not the same as in my schwab account last name according to their verification team. I changed my name when I left my husband 3 years ago through a court order and my SSN only came last year in August 2020. I started working very recently and have been using my SSN with my married last name and my maiden name with the same SSN without any problems because I have a court order for name change. I asked SSA to change my married last name in their records about 5 months ago (or more) during the 1st wave of Covid19. Their analyst Shawn M. told me they could not find my SSN in the system which is complete nonsense. Then today, he called me again saying he found out from their verification team that I just got my SSN in 2020 (which we have discussed already a few times during our calls) and that I cannot continue with Schwab--although he did not say it elaborately -- he was having those long pauses that made me ask if they want me to close my account then he said yes. I said no problem Schwab is not the only brokerage in the United States. Then, I asked him if I can withdraw all of my money without any issues and he said yes. Then, I go home to check my schwab account and guess what? I was banned form transferring my cash and my positions to my bank! I panicked because it took me over 2 months to save all that money to open an account with them! I called customer service and Shardonay was so helpful and quick to understand the situation (maybe because she is way smarter than Shawn and because she is a woman who probably has heard of what a change of name is for divorced women) and Shawn probably lives under a rock. She spoke to their verification team and the ban was lifted. She also told me that I can withdraw my money and if I give them a chance I won't have problems going forward. I don't understand if Shawn lives in Mars and has never heard of divorce or women changing their last names? Mind you he is an analyst! This is what happens when you speak to a great CCR who are paid less compared to a new analyst who are paid way more but slacks in their job. I am disappointed with Schwab but because of the great CCR I spoke with, I am giving it a second chance.

Eventually they apologized
Regarding the "We are not your service team" complaint, eventually they called to apologize and to ensure that I would get the letter I needed. A branch manager ended up being the one to help in the first instance, in spite of the denials from others. Then eventually an apology came from higher up, and they said they'd work to fix the issues that led to the more detailed complaint.

We are not your service team
"We are not your service team"
"We are not your service team"
These are the words that ring out from my conversation with the female manager of the Client Advocacy Team on Monday August, 29, 2011.
In trying get a letter to respond to a government form I spoke with a member of the team earlier on Monday. Then after sending a fax I got an angry, petty, and retributive call back from the female manager over the apparently inappropriately named "Client Advocacy Team." It was basically a call that said "don't call us - we are not here to help you - shut up and go away." It was also condescending.
When I needed a similar letter from Ally Bank, they were happy to help. Their executive escalations group didn't tell me I could not speak to them or that I had to jump through hoops to reach out to them for help. But the wrongly-named "Client Advocacy Team" at Schwab apparently is so caught up in their own self importance that they now don't appreciate phone calls from their customers. Their female manager prefers to treat customers rather like lowly employees that are required to follow her process before reaching out to them, where customers are to be treated either like lowly employees of this woman, or like pawns. Prior to contacting that group I had spoken with several other managers. And I had also been lied to by two employees who told me the letter would be done - then nothing happened. Then I got a denial. And only then did I escalate the issue. Then I DID speak to someone at the Client Advocacy Team. Then after sending a supplementary fax, that's when I got an angry call back from this woman manager of that team telling me "we are not your service team, " and basically to F-off and go away.
The FDIC and the Comptroller of the Currency will be hearing about the details.
We are not your service team.
We are not your service team.
This was the message from Schwab's "Client Advocacy Team" on Monday August 29.
Eventually they called to apologize and to ensure that I would receive the letter I needed. So this issue is now resolved for the most part.

Timeshare fraud
Promised to sell my timeshare or rent it out, it never happened. Charles Schwab Properties, Inc. committed interstate fraud across state lines. They charged me $598.00 on my Mastercard an upfront fee on 7-9-10. I want my money back from this Timeshare Scam Company! Every week Scammers call their ad and want money from me over the phone!

fiduciary irresponsibility
I have been a client of Charles Schwab since the early 1980s; little good it does me. All that stuff about "Talk to Chuck" is pure B.S. I could write a litany of complaints here but will focus on the recent closing of Laudus Funds. Although Schwab has a very close relationship with this fund family, when Laudus sent out a one-page notice by regular mail with information about closing four funds due to a coding error with no further explanation, I received absolutely nothing by any means -- mail, email, phone -- no alerts whatsoever. I believe this is an example of fiduciary irresponsibility and certainly a lack of customer service and regard for clients. I happened to own a small amount of one of the funds to be closed. The funds were closed to new investment and activity as of April 30th. They will be liquidated as of July 31, 2010. I want to know why Schwab could not bother to communicate with clients holding any of these funds and make a full explanation. Looking around on the Schwab website and at various email messages sent to me, I discovered that Schwab is pointedly promoting other Laudus funds with no comment even on the funds to be closed. I contacted the person who became my representative most recently. That was after complete disappointment with the local representatives who were assigned to me. I have enough investments held in Schwab to warrant some attention and yet receive none. I was also very disappointed with the Schwab Visa Card that I finally was able to obtain last fall. That service was abysmal. It looks like they have changed, perhaps improved slightly now. I want to make a formal complaint to Schwab regarding the lack of fiduciary responsibility in the Laudus Funds case. The representative called me promptly and said his boss would soon call me. Another major disappointment. Tammy (last name reluctantly given but I could not write it down) is apparently the Phoenix branch manager. OHG. Not only does she need basic communication skills and telephone manners 101, she said she had called and left a message when she obviously had not. Why lie? She only could give me an additional phone number anyway. And there we go--the endless pass the buck system and Schwab uses to discourage client communication. Why do I not switch? I gave another firm, Fidelity a chance last summer. They failed also. I guess that they have too many clients to want any more. And to switch my accounts to another place simply makes things difficult for me. It is a huge burden to make that complete switch. All the previous records would be closed to me, etc. Charles Schwab, if you are listening at all and you want your legacy to be positive, pay some attention to customer service. There are some good people working for you but there are also some real duds. I will follow the pass the buck telephone line and then write again with an update.
Changed payment amount so to incur interest
Has anyone else had issues with Schwab visa switching payment amounts so the user incurs interest costs? I am meticulous about making my credit card payments in full each month so as to not incur any interest charges. On my last monthly statement for Schwab visa I scheduled my payment 2 weeks in advance of the due date and for the full amount. While revieiwing my checking account online I noticed an unknown auto debit. While checking further I found out it was from Schwab visa for the 1% minimum monthly payment. Sure enough when I checked my Schwab visa online it only posted the 1% minimum payment depsite I am 100% positive I input the full payment amount. Fortunately I caught this glitch with a few days to go until the due date so scheduled another payment for the full amount to avoid interest charges.
I am interested to know if anyone else has experienced something similar. I suspect but can't proof it that this is a way for Schwab to wack users with interest charges.

Scam
Charles Schwab & Co., the large discount brokerage firm, fires customer for demanding that Schwab pay for the consequences of their mistake.
1. Customer purchases CD (certificate of deposit )through Schwab
2. CD comes due
3. Customer calls Schwab to setup issuance of checks to withdraw funds from matured CD
4. Customer goes to Schwab office to retrieve checks for principal and interest associated with matured CD
5. Schwab only has check for interest due and is unable to explain why the principal check is unavailable or commit to when the check will be available
6. Customer spends the entire morning and early afternoon (4-5 hours) directly following trip to Schwab researching with Schwab customer service personnel what happened to his money (the same money Schwab's commercial is talking about when it says "It's nice taking advice from somebody who doesn't forget whose money it is.")
7. Schwab finally figures out what happened and explains to customer
8. Customer demands that Schwab pay for the consequences of Schwab mistakes (loss of use of customer's funds (which is why funds were withdrawn), additional time for 2nd trip to Schwab (2 hours), customer's time is researching where his money is (4-5 hours))
9. Schwab sends letter to customer demanding customer close all his accounts at Schwab

Just closed my account out with them. this was part of my divorce settlement and i did not appreciate the incompetent customer service that i received from them. i warned them that it better not be longer than 5 days getting my check out to me. otherwise, i will be writing the judge who made this a court order and bringing them in to court.
These are very serious allegations. You can contact the FBI for theft over $10k and I suggest you do that. Accounts are supposed to be protected from theft but not from bad investments. The one question I have is why would a thief invest the money badly? Why wouldn't they just steal it if they had access.
Schwab's Fixed Income traders are not paid by commission!
My recent experience with Schwab has been awful. I dealt with a fixed income person in Denver who sold me a highly inappropriate corporate bond for my risk tolerance. If you know what you want to buy, they are probably ok. But remember that they are salesmen and profit is their primary concern. In my case, there was no regard for the my needs.
A Charles Schwab employee rep with whom I opened my account in June, 1992, sold my idenity info to another thief on the outside who was able to immediately electronically change my address and telephone info with Schwab. They cleaned out my entire $30k investment within a few weeks by making bad investments unknown to me and having checks mailed to another address. Detectives caught and arrested the recipient of the checks but did not have enough evidence to go after the inside thief. I've never been able to get back the money Schwab's employee help steal from me. Charles Schwab claimed no fault of theirs, nor responsibility for the theft, and virtually said "tough luck". Moral of the story, do not trust Charles Schwab to protect your money.
Charles Schwab allowed its employee to steal $30, 000 from my account in June 1992 by immediately changing my identity address and telephone number on the new account, and then sending my money to the fellow thief on the outside at the new address. I've never been able to get any cooperation from Schwab to help me retrieve the stolen money, even though Atlanta detectives caught the outside thief.
Bad service
When we are allowed to do online trading with schwab, as a client of theirs, we use several screens to work with. one is PERFORMANCE, one is POSITIONS, one is GAIN/LOSS, one is AT A GLANCE, and one is BALANCES. whenever i enter my schwab site, i try to check my account balances several ways through the above screens. non of these screens ever match! schwab claims that they must tinker with the totals between the time the market closes and midnight their time in NY. i cant understand how, in the age of computer madness, how they can not come up with the same totals on all screens...or at least leave a sidebar indicating that the totals will be completed at some time next morning! But even next morning they are not the same. I have called them and written emails to them several times and they just dont get it.
Also, today AAPL closed at 91 and changge at the close of trading in NY. in after hours trading they shot up to 98. did schwab show it. NO!~I CANNOT TRUST THEM ANYMORE and im tired of seeing this happen!...THEY ARE MATHEMATICALLY INCORRECT!...WHAT DO WE DO? It is a hell of a lot of trouble to move my account to FIDELITY or VANGUARD or some other discount brokerage service, so i just sit there and take my ulcers, but i need some real help with this! who can afford an attorney?... The balancing act is too complicated for me...i have too many diversified investments, but they have the best most expensive computers in the business...and they cant seem to come up with coincident totals on different screens for my account!

You can evidently buy securities but they can't be sold and are not showing as purchased and can't be sold. That doesn't work for anyone. If there is maintenance going on -- we are really sick of companies using anything to engage in disruption. There has been no alert regarding this --
Sadistic people. I insulted one of their representatives in a minor way (and with justification), and they permanently banned me. (Many hundreds of thousands of dollars.)
If you skip doing business with Schwab you will be doing yourself a favour, and I believe you will be doing your soul a favour as well.
I went to 501 Flager Drive Fl about a bad limit order to buy TWTR and the workers profiled me as a robbery suspect ect for no reason and activated silent alarm, the FBI and the Police West Palm Beach Pd were arrived on scene, I lost many thousands of dollars
i like to help the people going through trouble. not looking to give money to charles wells fargo and other banks we don't get 0% interest rate. use your money for your safety, all these companies looking for money only i, am going to inform all our customers how we can do better work. God will bless the people who are sincere. no one take money when they leave the business. these people giving us too much problems at this time. i have lot of things to share. thanks
if any customers read this please think about doing business with this company. america going through a big trouble now, but people have no change of mind. i have stock account with charles swab. lost lot of money several times. i have account more than 15 years. if i put all money in to amazon or tesla i should have get millions of dollar. now it is very low. i have another company merrill edge on the margin a/c if stock went up 1000 dollar they give us more than 5000 dollar to purchase stock.one person in charles swab help me one time. i don't see a single other person who is nice to customers. i don't like to do business with any company they have no respect to customers. they all looking to make their money not looking o help anyone. that's why all companies loss money. it is Gods guidance not human.
last few days my stock went up more than 1500 dollar i have a margin call for 130 dollar, they never change that margin call. any stock company do that automatically. this people individually changing our account. if we get 300 dollar they reduce 100 margin call . this company is not doing that. so i don't recommend a single person to contact this company to make money. do with some one nice. if they have no customers they not going to make any money. if we customers are better no one will insult us. my recommendation to all companies at this time is to change your policy to help customers. if anyone looking for selfish benefit this covid may be the biggest problem, today america increase 120000 more. who going to take care i request lot of changes to president trump and told him you can win the election if you al looking to resolve this problem. i, am sorry for trump he is going through stress. biden same thing no election result. did this happen ever in america. noooooooooooo. so let everyone do bad things then you can see there is no happy time. let charles swab do same things one day they will understand the biggest problems they are creating for customers. . iam publishing a book about covid and adding all the problems people facing and only god can resolve this problem. who will believe that. that is the problem all over the world. thanks customers
Sold options from my account. I lost around $2000. I was told that I received email and call from schwab, but I never did. Regret that I invest with them. Do not repeat my mistake.
Charles Schwab screws up all my account balance, quotations, gain lost figures everyday, all platform S.S.Smart, SS Edge, all wrong quotes, there was not even 1 day with a match price.

I tried and it didnt work. Please get in touch with me at so I can email you my new forwarding address. By the way, I tried calling you at the :outside the US number you list, but the call would not go through.
