refund
Cato Store 185 placed an online purchase for me on November 13, 2015. I had surgery and was unable to get to the store to pick the item up so the item was returned to their floor inventory. I was told that I would receive a Cato Merchandise Card in the mail. Well it is now January 28, 2016 and despite me making calls to the store and customer service I have yet to receive my Merchandise Card. I am so disappointed in the customer service I have received. I was told by the store to call Customer Service and Customer Service tells me to contact the store. I was told by Angela a customer service rep that a supervisor would need to investigate and speak to the store manager. I would then receive my Merchandise Card in 2 to 3 weeks. Angela could not tell me when I could expect to receive a call back or even when a Supervisor would follow up on this issue. This is totally unacceptable! I have shopped at Cato Fashions for years but not anymore!
problems with refund
When refunding a return on your credit card Cato Fashion s holds the transaction one week before issuing the refund. They cannot explain to me when they charge my credit card it automatically takes it off... but when issuing a refund they withhold it ONE WEEK before allowing it to be put back on. Shame, shame, shame!
I just visit store #147 to do a return around 2:40 pm in the afternoon on May 21, 2018, and the manager told me she didn't any money in the cash register. Then she changed it and said all she has in $100's in her drawer. Mine she has two registers so you are telling me that you don't have any change or money to give a refund? The refund was for $14.04. Wow!How did you get all the $100 bills. I don't believe this at all. I believe that this manager din't want to give me cash. Cashier 103, Register 102 Trans: 9012. Yes I used my debit card when I made the purchase. I made the purchase on May 11, 2018 and made the return on May 21, 2018. Remind me to never shop at catos again and I will inform others.
I just did a refund in Natchez MS and the lady just told me she didn't have change of $21.38
Please check out your store in Irondale, Al.
This use to be one of the best.Bad management trickles down to terrible customer service.
What use to be a cheery place is now being ran by a snotty young manager who lacks professionalism as well as manners.
I think my last visit will be my last today..until under new management.More complaints are coming!
Please send the"undercover boss" to your CATO store in Melbourne, Fl. Your staff choose not to greet each customers. Staff greeted customer before me. When it was my turn at the counter I told her I want a friendly "Welcome to Cato" she refuse to greet me and brushed me off with a smile. I spent much more than the customer before me .I've shopped at CATO other stores with complete satisfaction with merchandise and service. If staff has a problem with race, nationality advise them that CATO doesn't have a problem with the color of MONEY...Go green $$$------PT
I witness Tamera (store manager) arguing and cussing at a employee in front of customers... this Isn't the first time I shop at Catos weekly and Tamara is always on her personal Cell she has even been on phone while checking me out and leave me and have another employee finish...this is not acceptable and very unprofessional..over the past month's I've notice almost every time I'm in Catos it's only one person woeking...im tired of all the rudeness from Tamera!
Seems to me your store managers need more training. Apparently other associates are being shamed for their dress apparel while others are allowed to wear what they choose. I have seen first hand other employees clothing choses. Other young women which I shall not name have to be shamed. No one seems to know what is appropriate. Also feel your employees are being treated badly to cause them to quit. Should you like more information from me you may reach me at ripleyfaye@aol.com.
The last thing any customer wants to hear is some snot with bad grammar saying "dat's our policy!". Ugh! Can't believe a company like Cato allows this type of response. I just learned from some young girl that it takes up to 30 days to process a return and a refund. You've lost a customer for life, Cato. Bad job, horrible service. I'll stick to shopping only in your stores. You obviously don't give a hoot about customers who have been shopping with you for over a decade.
I am an employee complaining about working at Cato Fashion. For one today i found out my dad was admitted in the hospital and i tried to call off which i never do after working doubles for my store manager who claimed she had bronchitis i asked to be off today and she declined along with not letting me use my pto. So i called my DM for an answer and she told me not to call her and literally hung up in my face. I was so fed up that i Quit today. Now i see why this store has so many turnovers. I will never work for this place again. My family come first. I have let my manager get off numerous times for her family and she couldnt do the same. Store #0013 Brewton Al.
bad manners and hurt feelings
POOR POOR Customer Service Third and last experience at this store...Very Rude and Mean Associate...I ask for assistance and she snapped and snatched the whole time of visit I let her know that she wasn't pleasant at all she she stated she was a manager and not a sales GIRL...I ask her what her name was a she stated very boldly Jamey Boney...(what is wrong with people and their jobs) what ever happened to thank you and come again...

bad customer service
Let me begin by stating that Cato is a wonderful place to shop me and alot of friends and family shop Cato...
I myself am in sales and do alot of traveling...I recently was on a job and decided to stay a few days in Dublin, since it was close to my destination of travel...I had various scheduled appts. in this area so the one day I had a short break after lunch I decided to do a little shopping at Cato (Dublin, GA).
As I entered the store it was a pleasant enviroment and a nice store, my first time in the store since new location..I continued to do my shopping and the employee that approached me was loud, self-centered and focused on herself than visitors in the store, she continued to make rude and vulgar comments about her sex life and how she needed sex...(very unprofessional)..I ask one of the other employees about her behavior and what her name was she stated Jamey Bonie and I told her I felt the need to complain...
I am a Christian Woman and felt the need to inform you or whom it may concern of this behavior...I will continue to shop at Cato's but in a different location...Thanks for letting me voice my opinion...

I shop two Cato stores. One in Palestine Tx and Athens Tx I will no longer shop in Palestine. The manager is rude loud sulks when you have a
return. First time I felt maybe bad day something wrong at home etc. She turned her rath on another customer when I was in the store last week and the lady left in tears. I had ordered a sweater I had seen in the store and I got a call it was there, went to pick it up. Manager said order was never placed I was wrong I said then return my money since I paid up front. She was hostile when I showed her the receipt and literaly threw my money back to me across the counter. I still don't have my sweater. This women needs to be educated in handling the public or someone is going to do it for you. I just reviewed my receipts for clothing gift cards for 2016 I spent a little over $3700.00. Not a lot Im sure others spend more but I will no longer go to Palestine store if that woman is there. She is fat dresses terribly and has a sulky rude attitude all the time. Is this really Cato? Not the store in Athens or any other Cato I have been in. Please do something about this woman. Sharon Lewis Williams [protected]
nightmare job
I was reading online all about the complaints about Cato stores and I agree with most of them. I worked at Cato for four years. I was originally hired on as 2nd Assistant manager. Then was promoted to store manager. I was given no training at all for either position. The upper management is horrible. They say that they care about all their employees but thats a load of BS. The job is almost impossible and the expectations are unattainable. I worked in a more rural location where the economy was hitting hard. I went to great lengths to please the upper mangement. I looked into advertising (which they refused to do) and also gave them local ecnomic reports to show how hard retail was being hit in our area and was blown off. I tried for 3 years to boost sales to no avail. They expect you to solicit credit cards with a 22.9% APR in a failing economy, then when you don't force people to get them they thraten you to write up all the associates. The managers were not allowed lunch breaks while they were alone with a sales associate (and i uaually was) You have to just push through a 12 hour shift with no break. HAVEN'T YOU EVER HEARD OF LABOR LAWS?!?!Audits done monthly were never consistent on what the requirements were and just when you thought you were doing something right they would change the policy without notifying anyone and take the points off your audit. The LP audits were worse. A giant intimidating woman came into the store with the intent of intimidation. She would expect us to walk around this tiny store shouting "leaving zone 1 entering zone 2 entering zone 1 leaving zone 2, leaving the floor" Not only was this embarassing, but the customers found it off putting to have the associates running around screaming. If you didn't do it you had points taken off your audit score. I'm suprised they didn't expect us to shout that we were going number one or number two! As a manager I was required to do most of the store maintenece on my own. I had to repace light bulbs that were stuck in the ceiling (i was almost electrocuted once) The ceiling had massive leaks (the ceiling collapsed 2 times) I was given the run around by the maintenece department and told that i had to get in touch with the landlord of the building. Well the landlord lived in CA ( i was in AZ ) and he always sent a disgusting smelling repairman who came for one day to do a rush juob on the roof mixing roofing materials with horse manure (i saw the bag). When I told the DM about this she ignored me. I could never get the smell that lingered in that store out. The company provides no basic supplies (staplers, tape, pens, white out, cleaning products, etc..) you have to go to the nearest wal mart to purchase these items and they only approve 25 dollars a month which isn't enough when youre trying to cover the overwhelming smell of mildew. I even had my husband in the store at times doing repairs because you couldn't get any response from store maintenece in corporate. Whenever visuals are done there are rules you have to follow, but they never tell you what they are. They just give you a paper with colored dots (you really can't quite tell what colors they are) and expect you to reset your visuals to standard. The only way you would know if you were doing any thing wrong is when the DM would do the audit, only to have her turn around and tell you that youre doing it wrong when the regoingal manger is there to save her ###. Shelves are either too long or too short causing accidents and injuries to associates and customers along with the bars being too short or too long. the company expects the shelves and bars to be set to specific mesurements, which is impossible if you don't have a metal cutter in town and even then when you reset the visual setups the bars and shelves you just had cut fit nowhere else and cannot be used again in a different set up. Ever since the store was opened in 2003 the carpet and floor has only been cleaned and shampooed once and contacting maintenece for that was a pain in the ### too. Shipment was never dependable and the boxes always came smashed and dirty. Most of the home decor that was in these boxes was broken and most of the shoeboxes could not be dispalayed because they were so badly damaged. They expected you to sensor all merchandise even the delicate fabrics that were in most cases damaged by the pins and god forbid you put the sensors in the wrong place...you knew you were going to hell if that happened. The man who delivered the shipment was crude and always inappropriate saying that all our shipments were full of underwear and soliciting his friends out to the girls to give his friends a date. When I reported this i was giggled at.
Besides the job itself, I had several of my regular customers stop shopping there due to the fact that the prices were always going up and the merchandise was always the same ( same cuts, styles and materials ) as the previous years, but they were just in different colors. The customers that came in were usually rude to you thinking that you were their slave. they would throw merchandise on the floor and step on it causing the customers that wanted to purchase it later to complain because it was dirty. I had children vomit in my store and customers defecate on my bathroom floor and leave it. They would complain and make a scene when we were following policies reguarding our returns and price adjustments. I even had someone complain because i took a moment to sit down when i had twisted my ankle on a ladder while changing a light bulb. SHE ACTUALLY FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH CORPORATE! Are you cusomers out there that stuck up and self absorbed? If you are I would want you to work a week in that store or any retail position for that matterand deal with the BS we deal with daily. Dont get me wrong I enjoy retail when the people are pleasant, however when youre not pleasant to us don't expect rainbows and sunshine were only human too. If you get in our face about things we'll be civil until it gets out of hand. Oh yeah...If you're going to complain about the merchandise in a store or the prices in a store...don't shop there. There are plenty of others out there who like that place of business just fine.
As for Cato, the merchandise is alright, but working there was hell. In the end I was terminated because the people I worked with (and I quote) "didn't like me anymore" and i took a smoke break in a 12 hour shift. Oh well...

Customer service was terrible. She had a bad attitude and this is not the first time this has happened with her. Very very rude. The store number # 1285 and the sales rep # 122. I have spent a lot of money in Catos but I hate going in there when she is working.
Please bring back your perfume line. I know that I would spend $20 a week Just in perfume. I loved the selection and the price and I’m sure there are many others that agree. Even if you went up a couple dollars in price I was still by your perfume. Even would buy online as well. Please bring back your perfume. June/2021
Just walked around your store for 15 minutes (they opened early) and not one of the four employees asked if they could help me, said hello, made eye contact, or said goodbye!
The filthy music you play in your store...I walked in and walked out...

awful experience
I went to Cato's in Warrensburg Mo to try to find some cute comfy clothes to fit me, being 5 months pregnant it isn't always easy. So I started off in the plus size section tried on about 10 items only to realize they were all to baggy. I put every thing back on the hangers just like they were, as I usually always do. I then check out the misses section and found again about 10-12 items, out of those I only found 3 items that fit nicely and were more importantly comfortable. I could tell the lady that checked me in to my fitting room seemed to be very annoyed with me because I was trying on so many items. When I went to check out she rudely said, "Are all those clothes still in the fitting room!" I said nicely, well yes? I thought to myself "why wouldn't they be? Am I suppose to put them back for you? Because I wasn't aware that you were hiring! Shouldn't I fill out an application first?" Thats what I should of told her! But being the easy going person I am I just said yes they were. Then she almost shouted across the store in front of me and all the other customers to her co-worker " I NEED YOU TO CLEAN OUT FITTING ROOM 3" Like I was some huge inconvenience. She made me feel very embarrassed. Needless to say I will never be going to CATO's store again. I should have just gone to Maurices which was right across the street.

My wife and I are so frustrated as to the lack of information from the very competent and friendly workers. Apparently, they are not allowed to voice their opinion or ask for certain clothing. They are not robots, they are enthusiastic and good people why aren't they treated as such?
The dressing room at store 1348 on 9/29/18 between 5-6 pm was very dirty. Upon arriving the employees working did not greet or offer to help me during anytime of my visit. They did however go out of their way to assist a customer that came in after me. I'm black and she was white. More black customers came in and they weren't helped either!
I was told I can't return a skirt that doesn't fit my daughter since I can't find my receipt. Why can't I get a store credit. blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah it doesn't take 350 characters to let you know what my problem is! Why does my complaint keep getting sent back? This is ridiculous! Whatever I will send 350 this time!
I can't find my receipt so I need a in store credit...
CATO store in Claremore, OK treats African American customers like shoplifters/window shoppers. Im n a wedding & was told 2 purchase a specific item @CATO. the mgr & sales assoc. singled me out upon entering being AFRICAN AMERICAN &followed me while 6 Caucasian customers freely Roamed w/out Scrutiny. It's discriminatory! #offendedFEDERALemployee
On Monday evening 06/04/18 I went online to see store hours for Cato in jennings, la, It was posted that they were opened til 9pm. so I drove 35 mins to the store after working a 10hour day, when I arrived it was 7:55 pm .I noticed store hours on window that they closed at 8pm. so I opened the door and asked if that was the right time on window. there was two sales clerks Elizabeth and Taylor there. I proceed to explain that I went online and it was posted that they closed at 9. one of the knew what I was talking about and said she had called to have time changed, so one of them asked if I knew what I was shopping for I said not really I just need something for work the next morning. they said you can go head and look and both immediately started trying to help me find something, I kept apologizing to them and both of them kept saying don't worry about it its fine, I'm telling you that I truly hate going in to any kind of store when they about to close much less in 5 min. they were so friendly and professional that I ran in there for one shirt left 15 mins later, 5 shirts 3 pants and a sweater. I'm telling you these 2 women were great and the reason I will keep going back and telling my friends and family to do the same. the way world is today everyone always in a rush theses 2 women are a golden asset to your company. Elizabeth and Taylor do not ever change.
I will not ever enter another CATO Store & I will warrant my Friends NOT TO as well. I can spend my money & my time shopping in an EQUAL ENVIRONMENT! Thank You
