You find the car you want online at Carmax.com. You “reserve it” by having it shipped to your local dealer and you pay for that in good faith, because the Carmax Finance Department “Fully Approved” a deal based on your spending 2-3 hours filling out the paperwork online. The car gets to your dealership and when you are ready to go pick it up, they renege on the deal because “It’s only good for 7 days,” and it took them 14 days to get the car to your local dealership, and expect you to go in the store to redo EVERYTHING in person. When you tell them you were “Fully Approved” by Carmax Finance and you are NOT going through the whole pain in the butt again for 6 hours in their Dantesque dealership, and you just want your money back from the shipping of the car because they blatantly reneged on a “Fully Approved” deal, they extort you by telling you that you either go in and buy the car all over again in-person, from scratch, or lose your reservation and shipping payment altogether. Very gangster-like. RICO style intimidation. They try to pull off the scam of “bait & switch,” not with the car but rather with the “Fully Approved” online deal, reneging it and holding you hostage for ALL of the “reservation/shipping” charge unless you submit to a brand new deal. Disgusting practice. I have a feeling they will eventually go out of business because of racketeering and intimidation practices. I mean, it is blatant, brazen, rude and disgusting. They used to be great (No haggle, no reneging, no hassle). The New & Improved Carmax. Aside from its size, is no different than the self-financing Used Car corner lot run by an ex-convict. Worse, in fact. They know how to lure you in with “convenience” and they have it all set up to completely turn your “Fully Approved” deal around on you once they have you snared with the shipping charge by taking longer to ship your vehicle than the arbitrary validity term of the “Fully Approved” deal.
Recommendation: DON’T let them do it to you.
