Hello everyone,
I want to report a scam that targets avon representatives. This is one of those disgusting fraud cases that every representative should be aware of but that avon might not have warned its employees about!
I know this is a long post, but bear with me it may save you a lot of money and aggravation. (I will save you some reading here is the scammer's email address as we received it: [protected]@rocketmail.com. If this looks familiar read on... )
A friend of mine has been an avon representative for about a year (After retiring from the police department) and one day she received the following email:

Thanks for your response and I really appreciate it, my name is
Wendy ponto. I am a retail buyer and I am deaf and also a single
Mother of 2 kids. I was introduced to avon some month ago and i
Got your sales and contact from avon and I will be more happy to
Have you as my avon rep.. And I would like to purchase this
Items with you on a dealership and not with the company cos I am
New on computer and I don't operate credit card that is why am
Dealing direct with you and I will appreciate if I can order this
Product through you once you have the funds from me for the
Product. All the product I want to order from you is my first order
This year. I will want you to get back to me with the total cost of
The listed item I want to order from you.
Well, she ordered about $300 worth of stuff. My friend told her the price again just to make sure she understood how much it was. She replied:
Please kindly let me know if there is any discount you want to give
Me on my first order, and also you don't need to worry about the
Shipping and the pick up of the order from your location that will be
Handle through my shipper after you have receive the funds for
The order. And as for the payment, I will be paying you through a
Bank cashier check or money order. I will want you to get back
To me with your full name and address including your phone
Number so that I can arrange on how the payment will be mail out
To your address for the order through my financial bank. I await
Your response asap.

Of course all of this looked suspicious. Now her name is wendy smith? Why would she tell the story about being deaf with 2 kids to a total stranger? She doesn't have a credit card but she can send checks and have a shipper pick up the product? She (Or he?) cannot spell of course and referred the representative by "sis" rather than the actual name. It was clearly an email sent to many people. Too many for this lazy [censored] bag to fill in the names!
When my friend received the check (Which was not a certified/cashier's check) , she noticed that it was for over $2, 000! She sent an email to this scamming idiot asking why so much money and calling her out on all the inconsistencies of her story. And the idiot replied:

Nice reading back from you... Just have the check deposited and let me know when you are ask to come back for the cash...

Of course my friend did not take the check to her bank. The check was written by some kind of real estate company, we don't know if those people are accomplices or just another victim of this piece of garbage. The trash had the nerve to send another email asking: when did your bank ask you to come back for the check?
About never you stupid cow! Sorry I am getting carried away. All this was just to tell you all that if you are an avon representative and you get an email from
[protected]@rocketmail.com you should mark it as spam and never reply. Or just let her know that you know what she really is (A lying, scamming, [censored]bag!). Do not cash the check! Trust me it will bounce and you will have lost over $2000 of your own money plus the $300 product!
Avon, if you guys really give a crap about your employees you will warn them all about this scam. We sent emails to the main representatives in md but received no reply. We also sent emails on the company's website and were again ignored. Try protecting your employees better.

GOOD FOR YOU! I hope it is not the same person, but if it is, you can trust me on that, YOU WILL NEVER GET HER NUMBER OR THE ACTUAL PAYMENT. She is a ### (very well put) artist (that just doesn't seem like the best word since she is such an idiot!) and her check is going to be for WAAAY more than the $100.00 and after you send the money and product through Western Union the check will bounce. The only reason she changed her story and claimed to be from Maine is because someone (my friend probably) told her that it sounded suspicious that she would contact someone from another state rather than the representatives in her own area...
Will you do me a favor and let me know where this fake check comes from (the name of the company on it)? If you report her too maybe FINALLY the police or the FBI (since it's across several states) will do something about this [censored] bag. I am just worried about all the other representatives she might have scammed. Do you have a way to talk to Corporate at Avon or someone in charge so that maybe they can press charges too? Or at least WARN their representatives!
I cannot believe that Avon has not responded to this board, they clearly have no concept of social media marketing and customer service...

DO NOT DEPOSIT OR CASH THAT CHECK! IT S A FRAUD! You need to keep the check and hand it in at the police department or even the FBI (since it s interstate fraud). If you cash the check you will LOSE ALL YOUR MONEY! These people are scam artists and I guess they changed the email address because they were getting caught under the old name. READ THE ORIGINAL POST! The emails are worded the same way as the ones that were sent to MANY other people. DO NOT CASH THAT CHECK!
SHame on Avon for allowing this to go on and not warning their employees!
I can t believe this piece of garbage is still around! avondebbie can you contact someone in avon and make sure they are aware of it? I think corporate needs to get on the issue!
Another email/text scam to report on Avon Independent sales representative. This person contacted me by email with a $240 Avon order. Email address of person is candacecollins3@outlook.com ...she sent check to me way over amount so I checked with company that was on the check and they verified that it was a counterfeit check. In the meantime she emailed and texted me to send the remaining money to them via money gram. I never did cash but instead contacted the proper authorities and the Avon Corp. of this scam. Here are pics of check and where it came from.
I'm so glad I found this before I finished ordering for her. She almost had me, but when I asked for her address to see if she was in my delivery area, she said "Don't need to worry about the shipping and the pick up of the order from your location that will be handled through my Shipper". BEWARE OF WENDY CASH, CORY TATUM AND MARILYN MILLS. Not going to go into my whole spill..mainly I got suspicious because of the way the emails were written. I googled and Facebook search the name Wendy Cash. From Facebook I found a page for an "Avon representative" named Wendy Cash. But the page hardly had anything on it...Nothing like what an Avon rep would have on their page if they were trying to grow their business. Then I googled Wendy Cash and found this post. Luckily I haven't ordered anything yet. The other two names haven't responded. Glad this was here to help! Good luck to you all on avoiding these crazy people!

Sounded weird but I wasn't sure I then asked to send the money order or bank certified check to me. And then I received a second email from her:

I had just read from my debtor that the payment has been issued out to you and that you will be receiving it soon. But there is a big problem, cos she informed me that she sent out the whole amount she was owing me instead of her to just send you the amount for the products i am ordering from you, i was so mad at her when i heard this cos i don't know if my money will be safe with you when you got it. I wanted her to send the remaining of the funds to my Doctor for my medications and bills... I just don't know what to do cos i am totally confused, please .. may i know if my money will be safe with you when you get the payment and will I be able to get the remaining of my money after you might have deducted your amount for the products?... Because I need you to have the remaining money sent to the Doctor as soon as you receive the payment i planed to use this fund for my daughters wedding but since this happen there is noting i can do and more so i will like her to be out of the hospital before her wedding ..

THESE PEOPLE ARE ###! They not only will try to send you a fraudulent cashier's check well over the amount of product they "ordered" and then ask you to return the difference; they will also use your information to scam other Avon Reps using your name and address doing the same thing then will send you the UPS bills sending those fraudulent checks in your name to your address! CONTACT UPS IMMEDIATELY IF YOU GET A BILL! Tell them what is happening! Call your managers. Call your District. Call the number that is at the top of your invoices! This needs to STOP! Please tell everyone who sells Avon that this is happening!
Wow...I did not realize how many people got these type of Avon scam emails. I was a victim back in March 2010 and I got scammed and even went to the Police, Sheriff, FBI, and like every type of place and NOBODY would help me get the $1, 500 they took from me back (some said it wasn't enough money to do anything about and my local Police dept just didn't care and didn't even want to fingerprint the envelope the fake check was sent in), plus I went into the negatives with this scam and had a $80 overdraft fee I had to pay as well to get my account back above the negatives cause I only has $400 in my account at that time when I cashed the fake check. Mauren White is the name the person/persons that scammed me used. Then a Lizy Allen in August 2011 tried the same scamming stuff but I ignored the emails from that scammer after learning the hard way from the other one. Has anyone that got scammed and lost money got help? I just want justice and my money back. I know I am stupid for falling for the dumb scam but I had been laid off from my job in 09 so as an unemployed person who was trying so hard to make a few bucks selling Avon, I stupidly fell for the scam when the Mauren White person said they wanted to buy Avon from me for their modeling event they was having in my area. I was sent a check that was way too much for the order and cashed the check and subtracted the order cost, then sent the rest in a money gram to the person and place they said to send it to. So dumb I know, but when your unemployed and suffer from depression as I do, you don't make the best choices. Avon did finally post about the scams on their website last year. But yeah, I agree that Avon really doesn't care about it's sales reps...cause they never wanted to help me when I told them how I was scammed. The area lead in my area don't even want to help me when I ask for any type of help, she just says she will meet with me on this day and this time but when I go she doesn't show up or answer her phone. I have been selling Avon since fall of 09 when I lost my job, I have only 4 regular customers and 6 people who buy something once like every few months. I have hung bags with Avon books and a typed letter on mailboxes in my area, posted in the newspaper, on craigslist, taped a sign in my back car window, stuck a sign in my yard, made a Facebook page for my Avon, but still very few customers and Avon don't help me to get more customers. Avon just doesn't care...I keep selling Avon thoug so I can get stuff for myself for cheap since I am very poor and it's cheaper to buy stuff from Avon at the reps price than at a store on certain items, but I would love to get help with more cutomers but Avon don't care. I am still without a job since there just isn't jobs in my area due to this bad economy and I just so badly want my money back since I have health problems and lots of medical bills and every lil bit can help towards all those bills and I want the scammer to pay the consequences for their actions in scamming people. So anyone who was scammed and got help please let me know how you got help so I can see if that way might help me too.

I just got the email my self..I of course responded to the initial request to contact her and when i got her email back it had me curious. I added up the items (did not order them) and it came it 517 i was like wow this is awesome. Being new to AVON i was excited to see this size of an order. Again i did not place the order I may be new but I'm not stupid! So i decided hmm everything she has said she cant do has an almost too perfect answer. I googled her and found this board and boy am I glad. Thank you so much for posting this info even if AVON wont do anything about her I'm glad places like this post about it! You all rock!
Just received a notification from Avon about a customer wanting me to contact them so they can place an order. I am a suspicious person by nature, lol, and I decided to do a search on this woman's name. Name is Wendy Ponto and email is wendyponto080@rocketmail.com. Name just weirded me out for some reason, and alarm bells went off. Not going to respond to her.
Just recieved the same fraudulent request, worded the exact same way. This one from a Sarah Lockwood at email address sarahlockwood965@yahoo.com. She wanted to order over $400 worth of product using the exact same scheme down to the deaf w/2 kids

All i will advise you to do is you will deduct the cost of the items from the money and you will help me send the balance to the shipping agent so that they can come and pick the item from you as soon as possible... i am sorry for the mistake from my part just asking for your favor in this manner..

Who do i get ahold of to turn the check over i received from these people?
Hello, dear! I just got an order for almost $100.00 and this woman (says she is from my own state of Maine) is sending a cashier's check or money order. Sounds suspicious to me! I have asked her three times to give me her phone number! I will let you know the outcome of this one. If she is a scam artist, I will follow up with her name and email. I have noted that MOST of these scam ### (sorry but that's what they are!) have a yahoo email. I am waiting for either a phony check or some excuse for me to pony up money up for a western union scam! Ha ha! thanks for the heads up! Karen ~ Avon Rep from Maine, USA
