We arrived on the 4th of July to have a Urinalysis done to diagnose and treat a UTI before a pending spinal surgery. I was unable to go to the restroom as I had gone shortly before getting to the doctor's office. They told us to come in within the next few days to complete the sample. We were unable to get there on the 5th, but we did arrive on the 6th. I am in a wheelchair when out with very limited mobility. My daughter-in-law usually assists me, but was occupied in the restroom while I was being called back to give my sample. I had been given the cup and urine hat to hold, which was awkward, as my chair is a manual transfer chair and I was unable to both hold them and move myself. Latoya called me back then seemed confused as to why I could not seem to come through the door, I asked her for assistance with holding the items while I wheeled myself through to which she seemed very reluctant. I gave my sample and left the doctor's office. I called a few days later to check on the status of the sample, as I needed a diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible, as I am waiting on these results and treatment to have a spinal fusion done. They told me it would be 10 business days so I waited until then and called back. They said that they had not heard back from Lab Corp. They told me they would call me and get back to me. They did not. I called back the next day and they said it would be up to another week. I waited the week and then called back again only to get the same response that they had not heard back from Lab corp. I then began calling every day to recieve the same response each time on Monday the 27th a full 21 days later we went into the doctors office to ask what was going on in person. Amanda, who was very sweet and understanding of our frustrations, looked into the matter and found there was no record of the sample ever having been sent off. Imagine our shock to find that we had been being lied to about this for 3 weeks. Amanda talked to the provider about sending a cup home with us for my daughter in law to bring back in once I had completed it. Today, Tuesday the 28th she went into the office to turn it in to be greeted by Latoya who continously talked over her while she tried to explain the situation. We strongly suspect it was Latoya on the phone most of the times when we called as well as their voices sound similar. She stated that the sample could not be taken and that I would have to be seen again since it had been almost a month. My daughter tried to explain that we had been calling to find the status and would have come in at any point in between to have the analysis redone had we simply been told the truth but she kept being spoken over. She finally asked to be allowed to speak and was able to explain the situation. It made no difference that we were told the day before that the provider wanted us to bring in the cup today. We both feel that this was highly unprofessional on the staff's part and will be going to another facility to have the tests run so that hopefully the sample will actually be analyzed.
Desired outcome: better management of your facilities
