I have recently used Aer Lingus to fly to Berlin to attend a sporting function. I had a sporting rifle in my luggage. I followed Aer Lingus protocols by informing them by phone many days before my flight. A note was made and I was told to present my firearm as checked luggage in Dublin. There was absolutely no problem in Dublin and I asked the check in person to please make it known that my rifle would be returning with me from Berlin in three days time on my return flight. In my return flight, the check in desk in Berlin had no record of my stating that I was returning with a firearm. It resulted in having to wait until everyone else was on board before a supervisor was summoned who contacted Aer Lingus and allowed the boarding to proceed. I barely made my flight. It appears that the information that was recorded in Dublin regarding my firearm could not be seen by check in staff in Berlin. The reason I am complaining about this is that the very same thing happened last February as well. I made a complaint to Aer Lingus which I will include the reference number of, and it took six months for them to reply, stating that they were sorry and they would update procedures. This clearly has not happened. The issue appears to be the breakdown in communication between the carrier and the check in staff in Berlin. I might add that it is a third party company that handles check in for Aer Lingus in Berlin as they do not have an office there. I would really like this sorted as it is a good service apart from this embarrassing and frustrating experience that occurs each time and does not appear to be addressed.
Aer Lingus Case Reference [protected]. I did not use the complaint services this time as it appears that there’s no point.
Desired outcome: Improved communication between Aer Lingus and third party check in staff.
