In May 2024 I bought an Acer Predator Helios 16 (PH16-72, Core i9-14900HX, RTX 4070). After a few months of normal use, the laptop began crashing and throwing BSODs (including WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE) specifically when running CAD software (ArchiCAD), reproducible identically across three different software versions. RAM tests came back clean, and disabling the hypervisor changed nothing.
I sent the laptop to Acer-authorized service twice during the warranty period, with a detailed description and video proof of the issue. Both times it came back with a generic "tested OK," the same crashes reproduced immediately, and after the second visit the BIOS was locked with a password I never set (later removed free of charge, but the underlying defect was never addressed).
After the 2-year warranty expired, I paid an independent technician to open the laptop. They found liquid metal thermal compound missing across a large portion of the CPU die and dried thermal paste on the GPU — and noted signs suggesting the unit may never have actually been opened during either official warranty visit.
I've since had the thermal compound properly reapplied at my own cost. I'm filing this complaint because a defect that existed and was reported during the warranty period was never genuinely investigated or fixed, leaving me to pay for a repair that should have been covered.
