Academy of Learning Career College Compos manager and assistant

I am writing to file a formal complaint against Rabe Khan and her assistant Ethel, the Campus Manager at Academy of Learning Career collage at 3585 Lawrence Ave E, Scarborough ON M1G1P4, regarding her behaviour, attitude, and unfair employment practices that have severely impacted several employees, including myself.

Specific Issues

1.

Arbitrary Terminations: Ms. Khan enforced a contract clause stating that she could terminate employees at any time without cause. This clause was used to unjustly terminate me after only three weeks of training, causing significant stress and depression.

2.

Intimidating Behavior: Ms. Khan often exhibited a hostile and intimidating attitude toward employees, creating a toxic work environment. This included public reprimands and unreasonable demands that contributed to high levels of stress among staff.

3.

Unfair Treatment: Several employees, myself included, felt that Ms. Khan's decisions regarding hiring and firing were arbitrary and lacked transparency. This has resulted in a culture of fear and insecurity within the workplace.

4.

Impact on Mental Health: The constant threat of termination and the toxic work environment have adversely affected the mental health of many employees, leading to increased stress, anxiety, and depression.

Because of this job, I didn't take any job, and now after months still I can't find any other job and am disappointed frustrated and stressed of my life and the expenses I have. She says I keep you for a long time but after the month she brought someone and fired me. I was in training and... i have no idea why this happened.

Claimed loss: There are a few people who lost their jobs because of her decision.we are scared if we answer I have still no permanent resident

Desired outcome: 3585 Lawrence Ave E, Scarborough ON M1G1P4

Academy of Learning Career College seems to have turned what should have been an opportunity into a highly stressful and demoralizing experience. It’s commendable how you’ve stood up to address these serious concerns, especially given the impact on your mental health and career prospects. The arbitrary terminations and toxic work environment you describe are deeply troubling, particularly when they’re affecting so many. Hopefully, by raising these issues, you can help bring about the change needed to ensure others don’t have to endure the same. Here’s to finding a work environment that values and respects your contributions.

Academy of Learning Career College Service/learning coaches unavailable when needed

I've completed my Project Management Fundamentals about a week ago. I have been struggling through the whole course. They do not provide text books for this particular course and the videos you watch are so dry I almost fall asleep. Impossible for me to learn from. I had my fees paid for course 1 & 2 for this program but with lack of help and unable to get ahold to my learning coach when I needed her. I ended up scoring less than the 75% for the course. Now they make me use my funds to pay for this course again and to redo it all over and I won't be able to complete my second part of it. I am so frustrated because it was not my fault they couldn't help me when I needed the help so why am I paying for it. This is so hard to deal with. I feel so let down by this college. Like thanks no thanks for the help. Talk about not helping your students be successful man. Not good at all.

Desired outcome: I would have liked to have completed course 1 & 2 successfully. Totally letting students down.

Academy of Learning Career College Business class

Back in feb 2022 I decided to take a course. My friend told me about this school and how great it was. It started off badly, first it was the modules- they either would many load or they gave me the answer without the questions.

I had 4 modules that didn’t work in a row. I needed up getting behind in school. On top of that even when I signed into my profile for my hours not always would my hours log into the system. I contacted the school time and time again. Several months in I was contacted by someone else who apologize for the inconvenience. They tried to get me caught up but st this point it seemed impossible. I have 5 kids and work full time. The only reason I went to this school was because I was told it was extremely convenient for my situation. I was to be done the course in Nov. I contacted them on many occasions about the issues. Jan comes they changed they program and now I’m having a whole new kind of issues. Their authentication program let me sign in only once and won’t let me sign in again. I was told on Tuesday March or Wednesday March 22 ,2023 they would contact me. They never did. I emailed three times no response. Then on Thursday I get a response saying there I.t person hasn’t got back to them. Why wouldn’t someone email or call to tell me that? I stayed home from work two days waiting to figure this out.

During the school when it was time for my second osap money I contacted them a month before release the second osap payment. No answer. The osap was needed because I had 2 babies in licensed daycare.

My Daycare was paid with my osap. Which was the deal that was made when I was able to get short notice subsidize daycare to attend school.

I lost my childcare, the school didn’t contact me back about my osap until it was too late.

At that point it made it even harder to do schooling. They gave me a letter saying osap was coming but because my grades were 73.9 not 74% they said they couldn’t release osap.

I started contacting them about osap a month before the second release date. One person was kinda helpful and let me retake course to get my marks up but once again that only put me more behind.

Now with this login issue. I can’t finish my course until the school figures out either how to reset the program so I can start over or takes that authentication step away. My course should have been done two month before that program started. This shouldn’t even be an issue.

I either need this log in resolved immediately, or I would like a refund for the osap you guys received on my behalf.

I’m extremely frustrated with everything that has happened with this school, and with further investigation this campus seems to have many issues. However, the campus that my friend is at she hasn’t had one issue. She’s been the one helping me with everything, including the login she was able to log into hers fine I went to her house to see if she could help me log into mine as you guys were getting back to me and there’s something really wrong with it and let me login once and won’t let me login again. When I was finally contacted about the new login process. I was just continually sent the same thing I was sent at the beginning how to log in originally and it doesn’t work. Resending the same page when it doesn’t work isn’t helping. The thing that gets me the most is it’s the manager that didn’t respond for those two days when they originally gave me Tuesday or Wednesday to deal with the issue and then didn’t respond to me until Thursday morning. Even though I respond Med saying anytime after 9:30am. Made the timing very flexible for them.

I started screen shotting all the correspondence between me and the school for my records. This has been a really trying time. My next school course starts in the end of April but I cannot get Osap unless this is figured out. I was told to inform he school of my complaints before going to the next level. It’s been almost a month since I was able to log into the school., the school sent me a letter saying the file was closed due to inactivity even though I knew I’d be trying to figure out the new school login with there help.

I will not be taking any more days off work and waiting around for someone to contact me, everybody I spoke to so far about the new school login can’t help me.

Desired outcome: ReFund my osap, compensate for the inconvenience and hassle. And give one final test and mark the grade off that.

Academy of Learning Career College the course and the school

I complained several times to the school via email and did not hear back.
I was left unsatisfied after spending 8000$ on a medical office program still paying it back and no job prospects in site. Most do not recognize this as an accredited School. I could have gone to Conestoga for half of this program cost and would have come out knowledgeable. The program was way to simple and not very detailed. I realized recently that the Guelph "campus" is no longer.
Very disappointed.

Academy of Learning Career College lack of support, course programs not available, this school is a joke

My sister is taking the web design course at the Academy of Learning in High River. There has been no point in this course that has been easy for her to deal with. None of the teachers at the school are able to help answer any questions she has while working through each courses. Half the time the programs she needs are unavailable or not working. There is no web design teacher in the school that can answer quick questions or help her through tasks. The online teacher takes anywhere from 2-4 days to respond to a question/ or respond with a question about her question, so it takes additional days to actually get an answer. Most of the time she is using google to try and figure it out on her own. There is an online hub that she is supposed to be able to chat with someone and work through things but it hasn't worked in months.
For how much she has paid to go to school this is absolutely ridiculous. After months of watching her struggling through this I have had enough. Both her and I completed programs through the Academy of learning and received diploma's a few years ago. She was interested in the web design program, so she decided to go back and not expecting it would be so horrible this time. We understand that school is stressful and a challenge. But to metal exhaust a student and frustrate them to the point of bring them to tears is completely unacceptable. Some thing needs to be done immediately. I will be going to the news about this so future students do not experience the same thing. I don't believe it should be this hard to get an education.

Hello, I also attended the high river office. I took office administration and 4 years post graduation I still am not employed. I have been on multiple interviews and passed over each time as I was told my experience was lacking.

When I contacted Academy of learning high river, I was advised that my diploma was only valid at the employers discretion.

I'm quite frustrated at this point. I sympathize with your sister and your experience. It hasn't been easy.

Academy of Learning Career College multimedia developer for the internet course

The correct name for this joke of a school should be Academy of SUCKERS!

I took the Web Designer course, when I first went to see about the course I made sure to ask if the course teaches ASP, PHP, Mysql and how to build shopping carts and I was told it did. The course teaches NOTHING about ASP, PHP, Mysql or how to build shopping carts. If you take this course all you will be able to do is build personal sites.

Anyone thinking about taking a Web Designer course I would suggest you look at NAIT, the course covers everything you need to know to build websites for a living and it's half the price. The course Academy of SUCKERS offers is 100% online and the staff in the school don't know anything about the course so if you have any questions or problems they can't help you. The course NAIT offers is in class and the instructors there actually know how to build sites and can help you.

Don't waste your Money going to Academy of Losers. When I took this course I had problems getting a website to display correctly in IE on the computer I was using, it would display correctly of a different computer, when I talked to Academy of Losers IT person his solution was to use Firefox instead of fixing the computer, when I was using FireFox it wouldn't play the video's on the courses website, this time the IT guys solution was to use IE. Well when you are trying to build websites you need to make sure it works correctly in all the browsers not just some.

Academy of Losers flat out lied to me about what all was covered in the course, they didn't tell me it was 100% online until after I started the course. This place is the biggest JOKE of a school. For $15, 000.00 I expect to be taught everything I need to know to build website professionally not just taught how to build a personal site. A person can lean more on youtube than you will at this JOKE of a school. Save your money! Don't waste your time!

If you are looking at taking any course from this JOKE of a school the BEST thing you can do is check out your local Community College, they will likely have a better course for a lot less money.

This school is ghetto. I worked there for 4 weeks 11.25 an hour and they pushed me until my anxiety kicked in so hard then approached wsib for more money. I was only a target for get rich scheme. I even had wsib apologize to me for allowing me to work there.
I've contacted the labour board. Just waiting for a response. I know they'll do this again. Not if I can help it!

Academy of Learning Career College overcharged for the amount of time in course.

I started going to the Academy of learning after speaking to the head person at the school his name was Chris Bourassa I think that's how his name is spelled he said that I could get in as soon as I got approved for a student grant and the course was office administration so anyway he helped me with getting started so I checked it out for a month I only did 32 hour's of class time and decided that sitting at a desk wasn't the kind of work I would like to be in so I told Chris I wanted to discontinue and he said that would be fine so I left then a month later I had checked my bank account and I was shocked to see I was still getting payment's from student grant's. So I phoned him and asked why I was still receiving payment's and he said I would have to go in and sign a form to discontinue so I went in and signed the form and thought I would only owe $1000-$2000 and ended up owing over $9000 and I phoned the school and student grant's but no one would help me. In the end I paid back $13000 to the government with interest so this is why I'm writing this letter. This was in 2002. Anyway I would like some of my money back because this is not right my contract # is 106039sk

Academy of Learning Career College lack of morals

The owner operators of this school are incredible! I worked hard for them for 3 years and then was 'picked - on' by a newly installed director. This resulted in my being fired, suing them in small claims court for wrongful dismissal - winning and spending the next 7 years (So far) taking anti - anxiety meds - and don't even ask me to be in small quarters with a man - other than my husband. . . Yes i won a court case against them and yes i received my max ei benifit claim. . And yes i even heard the judge in a court of law put these people in 'there place'. . . My complaint? That until i found this site i could not express my 'complaint' to everyone. Lesson: really check out a private post secondary before signing up - the best check? Talk to past students (1+ yr post grad) and some employers in your feild to see if the particular institution 'paper' is valid education.

I haven’t gotten my physical psw cert, nacc cert, and even transcript. I called them many times but no one’s answering the phone. I even emailed them multiple times and no one’s getting back to me. This school is so disorganized. They just want your money and after that, they don’t care about you anymore.

I was considering starting at the Academy of Learning located on Bloor St. I am so so happy I didnt end up enrolling, but rather applied and got accepted into Humber College instead. I had a weird feeling about the place after going into the college and seeing the environment. The "school" if you can call it that didnt feel like a legitimate school, but more so like an office of business- which it is. The staff are there to lure in prospective students.
I spoke with an admissions director there, and was putt off by how desperate she seemed to have me enroll. Most schools, the good ones, choose the best out of their applicants, whereas this school seemed to want to enroll anyone that walked through the door.
The advisor made the mistake of mentioning to me that if I have any friends interested in receiving education that I should tell them to attend the Academy of Learning, and if my friend enrolls I will be paid 300 dollars. My question is, why would a legitimate educational institution need to go to such lengths to obtain student enrollment?
This "institution" is simply a scam. No employer will take a diploma obtain from the "Academy of Learning" seriously. Please save yourself the time, effort, and money and look into public colleges instead. Do yourself that favour.

Academy of Learning in Victoria BC...Horrible scholastic experience. Facilitators are not even trained professionals. They even spread rumors about students that they didn't like to other students. I never used any of their training to find a real job, and their employment counselors were never available or not even there when I had graduated. No support during the school year, and no support after. I would not recommend to anyone ever to attend. Go to a community college and spend less money for courses that are accredited and accepted by employers and other colleges.

I am filing a complaint with the human rights comission. This place is shady, and disgusting. I missed time and was totally clear on why I missed the time. I was not asked for documentation. Then, when I made a complaint about the learning environment, they tried to dismiss me for missed time saying I never produced medical documentation. Well, I provided it but they still dismissed me, even though my missed time was accounted/documented. I also had a high 90s average.
The director tried saying it was the department of education that said he had to dismiss me. I went straight to them for clarification. They tried hiding behind a policy. The department of education said if I had medical documentation it does not count against absenteeism.
Just shady.
They should be sued for false advertising. "Flexible classes" my [censor].
They haven't heard the last of me, that's for sure.
I urge ALL of you, make formal complaints with the department of education, talk with your MLAs and minister of education, post on social media, make a page of complaints on facebook, post on kijiji under free stuff-thousands of locals in your area read there everyday. Get the word out so more people aren't swindled.
I will go to the media if I have to. I won't back down.

First of all, let me start by stating that ... if you are a prospective student considering enrolling at Academy of Learning, please ready each and every review. This is something I wish I would have done and many of us as well. I hope this serves you well!

I moved from Montreal to Calgary and I'm perfectly bilingual, by the way. I was struggling to make ends meet with low paying jobs so I plastered Kijiji with ads that I was looking for a job. Then, an Academy of Learning adviser must've seen my desperation and reached out to me.

I would like to point out that the academic adviser's job is to get in and enroll as many people as possible. It's a sales' position. There are no requirements ... only a whopping student loan debt for the student in question.

The MOA (medical office assistant)/health unit coordinator (also known as unit clerk) is their most popular and an "easy sell". 20000$ and you're promised to have a job straight out of school. A full-time unit clerk makes around 50K a year which sounded like a pretty good deal to me. The way she broke it down to me is that they start at 23.77$/hour, there's a premium for hours worked evenings and weekends too. It sounded pretty good to me so I went ahead, signed the paperwork.

The instructor (not teacher) I had at the time at the Calgary South location was finishing up her own MOA/health unit clerk diploma as she was teaching it to us. She was struggling herself and oftentimes could not even answer our questions. The way she instructed us was literally reading what was in the textbook to us. The exams were ridiculously easy and I never truly felt challenged. So, why did I have to pay $20000 for that type of education?

Then, comes ILS (integrated learning system). The required courses included different levels of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access but with NO instructor. It is you, a computer and your book. Their books are outdated. I did the 2007 version in 2012, just imagine. If you had any questions or are stuck, google or YouTube are your best friends since there are no instructors for these classes. There are facilitators sitting in the computer labs but there are no help because they probably never even took the "class" you're doing. They hang out in the lab, chat and surf the net. Myself and the majority of students simply cheated to pass those courses and never got caught ...

There's also a typing component they do not really tell you about. If you are hoping to get an AHS practicum, you need to make sure your typing is at least 50 words per minute. If you score below 50 by the end of the year, then forget about it! I tested at 48 words per minutes, unfortunately. My practicum was done in a clinic and was then hired at an entry-level salary of $13.50 for 13 hours per week. Not quite the Unit Clerk salary promised at the time of enrollment, huh?. I was forced to keep my low-paying job and the money I was making at the clinic could barely cover my student loan monthly payments. Please note that most clinic do NOT require a diploma for you to work there. They do pay significantly lower than AHS but they will train you for the job. Again ... why did I pay $20000 for this program?

Upon graduation, an Academy of Learning diploma is worth absolutely nothing in the real world. I have sent countless applications to Alberta Health Services & Primary Care Network for almost 2 years now and I have yet to be contacted for an interview. I have a strong customer service and clerical background and occupying a clerk position should not even be a problem. My friends who did the same program at Bow Valley for a fraction of the costs have not had that problem. Most of them have had their practicums in AHS facilities and hired immediately after. I, on the other hand, have a diploma with a $20K debt and nothing to show for it. They have not assisted me with my job search and I've been referred to Indeed and Kijiji (ironically, the same way they "found" me).

When something sounds to good to be true, it usually is!

They have a Facebook page and deleted ALL negative comments on there. Negatives comments are also next to impossible to find because they make sure to delete them.

Academy of Learning College is nothing but a scam!
