I sent $1000 to my wife using her phone number that was connected to her bank, and Zelle tried routing it to an account she previously closed. After a while, when we could see it wasn't going to hit her bank, I decided to stop the payment from my phone app by hitting the "Stop Payment" tab.
There was no pop-up, no notice that there would be a $20 charge to stop payment before I hit the stop payment tab. I only found out when I was reviewing by bank account that Zelle had charged the $20 fee.
Zelle lists no customer service email, and their toll-free number is automated with no live agents. Zelle even says on their website, "Contact Us", but there is no way to contact them. Thankfully, my bank gave me a one-time credit for the $20. Zelle should have been the one to do it, but there is no way to contact them, by design.
ZELLE IS A SCAM!
Recommendation: Don't use Zelle. They are a scam!
