Since I have had surgery on Nov 4th and been prescribed percocet 5mg or 10mg I have been telling the nurses that it does not work for me for pain. I explained to the nurse and doctors that it takes about an hour to kick in and only lasts about an hour which leaves me in pain for 3 out of the 4 hours the medication is supposed to be helping me with pain. I was regularly for Dolodan which at the time was the only medication that was working. The doctors then discontinued it. I explained again that the pill they have me on being percocet does not affectively work for me. I told them I understood that they were trying to reduce the IV medication because it will not be available when I am discharged and again explained that I am in pain all the time in the hospital because the pill medication they choose does not work but it will also be a concern to send me home with a medication I have repeatedly explained has very limiting relief for me. I suggested just trying a different pill medication because that would be what I am going home with, I explained I do not need the IV medication I just need something that works. One of the nurses says she would suggest a different medication that might work better to the doctor on Nov 26th. I was happy that I was finally being listened to about my own treatment until the nurses came back and told me the doctor recommended morphine in the IV. I don't understand the thought process of suggesting yet another IV when that was their concern to begin with. I told them again on the 27th my concerns with pain, they came back with the doctor would put an order in for morphine with a 12 hour release so it would last longer. I was happy that at least I would be able to sleep through the night (which is impossible currently because I wake up every 2-3 hours in pain) This does not seem normal to me. However when I asked for the new medication they told me the doctor decided to keep it to the same one as before. Also they had discontinued that one as well. Right now I am asking for the doctor to reevaluate the pill medication to something that would work and last longer so that I do not have to use the IV at all and the doctor has completely ignored my request to see me. The hospital states that they take patients rights seriously but I have been treated as if I am a drug addict rather than a pedestrian who was hit by a car. I would like to make sure I am not participating unknowingly in any studies this hospital performs. You do not have my consent and I want to know if I have already been involved in one when I was getting my leg sewn up and the doctors told me I would be knocked out and I was then given what I was told was ketomin ? Instead of being knocked out I was experiencing visual hallucinatinos and feeling all of the pain of the sewing. I was telling the doctors during the process that they were doing something wrong but nobody would listen to me and stop. Additionally one of the doctors told the patient sharing a room with me after she arrived that I was also hit by a car, Proceeding to discuss my personal medical situation which I immediately stopped and told him that was a violation of HIPPA. I also was pushed into discharging into rehab prematurely. I have voiced my concerns about this also, My medical condition being of one that can not be rehabilitated since I am currently non-weight bearing on both arm and leg until surgery. I was denied at the one rehab I wanted to go to because I told them I still needed surgery and the social worker for the hospital came in and seemed like I had done something wrong by disclosing that. Which seems like insurance abuse on the hospitals part. I am addressing this here before pursuing legal action.
