being an employee at td bank
Currently I work at the newly labeled 'TD Bank'. I was a customer of Banknorth for years before I began working as a part time employee there just several months ago. This employment is a result of being laid off from my previous job and trying to find work in an unforgiving economy.
I've spent the last week getting yelled at because of the bank's computer issues. It is most certainly understadable that customers are angry and outraged by this occurrence, however, it is far worse to be the employee getting yelled at when this customer has no idea that my money is also tied up in the same very bank. I am at work frustrated myself, working for a company that I have little faith in as of late. What choice do I have but to go to work? I look for alternative employment every single day before and after work.
It is not easy to work for TD Bank. It is not easy to break people's hearts and ruin their entire day by telling these people that go to work every day to try to keep their heads above water that their account is now overdrawn because they couldn't keep the 'minimum balance' in their account. These are certainly not enjoyable moments at work, but I have to go to work too.
I just wanted to say that, we are not all careless unsympathetic employees and that is not an easy job.

having experienced roles across multiple departments - from Wealth Management to Credit Cards to TD Insurance, where focus is on achieving cost efficiencies by:
1. Reducing workforce - laying off over 40 people last year in one department alone
2. Increasing the workload on frontline "colleagues" to unmanageable levels and setting unachievable goals - processing of over 200 claims per claims analyst, which results in severage pay cost avoidance when "colleagues" quit,
3. Freezing compensation and forcing overtime - resulting an increase in number of employees on stress leaves, followed by an increase in long-term disability deductible from paycheques to unprecented levels, currently at over $400 per month, and
4. Minimizing customers' claim payouts to reduce claims costs and improve profitability at the expense of poor customer experience as demonstrated by missing Net Promoter Scores
I have worked for TD as a teller for 9 mths. I was on probation 2 x. Finally I had been error free for over 3 mtgs. I am over 50, and working part time 20 hrs. The first 5 months there was such an amazing turnover that we were all working 25 to 30 hours and the lines were out the door. That was mostly the reason that we were all having problems with the new tellers balancing. Anyways, I had just started feeling confident in my job and was balancing everyday and was number 1 in SR. Last Sunday I was trying to get out on time which was 3:00pm, so I started to balance at 2:45. I balanced just fine, but was still taking customers that had no cash deposits to help out. Just before 3:00 I was going to balance again and when I checked my count, I was still balanced since I didn't take any cash in after balancing. I noticed I was over the drawer limit by $2000 so did a quick sell to another teller, who signed my sell and I put the ticket in my drawer. That was the mistake. Now it's 3:05 and I am trying to get out on time. Staying over is frowned upon. I forgot to put the ticket thru, stupid error. I wrapped up my drawer, put it away and left for the day. The next day when I show up for work, my manager is there to audit me. As soon as I bring up my drawer I see the balance over the limit and realize my mistake. For failing to put the ticket thru and for not deducting the sell off the drawer I got fired. I feel so stupid, such a dumb mistake. Anyway, I am trying to file for unemployment and I am having a hard time getting their registration number to file with. Anyone know it?
I have worked for other banks before, but I just got here and I want to espcape. I am not one bit exaggerating. This is a horrible horrible bank. Everyone is so depressed and the managers just wait for you to make a mistake and document everything instead of being a bit human and coach. This place pathetic. I am digging a hole out of here...The CSR are miserable I feel so bad for them. They fool the very young tellers that this is all they are worth. What a disgrace...
I just got hired and everyday I am looking for a new job... I wont be their long and on my exit interview I will be professional and very VERY specific!
Unfortunately I agree with many of the comments above, because they are the truth. I understand how corporate world functions, but TD Bank is in a world by itself. There are positive things about the company, but the negative seems to outweigh it. There is absolutely no employee recognition or motivation and they are very cheap compared to all banks in many aspects. I was shocked when I was told I could not expense milage for going to training and some events outside of the store. They say they want to WOW the customers; however, just because they are open late hours ; it is not enough for customers to give outstanding reviews about the bank. They have the employees jump around from Penny Arcade to teller line to platform and are on their feet all day. They say that they WOW their employees but they do not; infact employees who have been there since Commerce Bank and new hires are burnt out. At hire they promise that there are great incentives and then when you join there is no incentives. Its as if they have to trick people to join their company. People who started with Commerce Bank seem more loyal to their job and company at the timem but TD Bank ichanged all that and is making them look elsewhere. And those who recently joined TD Bank know what a traditional bank is all about and how much more they can get without the late hours; they are not planning to stay long. They have some good concepts, but are not strong enough to come close to their expectation because they take for granted their employees and are dillusional if they think staying open a few hours longer and dog treats are going to make a customer loyal. They are trying to fool employees, customers and themselves if they think they are going to be the best of the best. The reason is the disrespect and disregard for their employees and not taking a moment to listen without faulting a person for speaking the truth. At this time people stay with the bank because of the economy, but not everyone is that desperate. TD Bank better start being more considerate and appreciate their employees more. In regards to incentives the bank made out large last year; therefore, giving to their employees a bit more in their paycheck.would be the wisest thing to do. All the regional manager, presidents and so on are playing games with the employees and that makes the company unethical.
Seriously, what the heck do you want TD to do; call every freakin' customer? You get mail for a reason. Banks merge. Where have you been for the past twenty years? You get a notice, YOU don't bother to read it and then complain? TD mails out these notices a few times, just because of people like you. Here's a suggestion. READ YOUR MAIL, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S FROM YOUR OWN BANK!
teller's have a front line job in customer service and proper training is needed to help customers whether they are happy or annoyed. people don't usually walk in and start yelling right away. if someone is yelling, you allowed their anger to build to where there was no other recourse in their minds. that is a hard situation to turn back around. secondly, what competant manager would let a situation get out of hand like that without stepping in. thirdly, the td/commerce conversion screw up should never have gone live before it was ready. if there were test runs, they must not have mirrored real life situations, and the person in charge didn't know what the heck they were doing. i wonder if they still work there? To address customer fears and frustration required mgt to do a little work and come up with a plan so the first line employees have something worthwhile to tell customers. They were probably in the dark too. invest a little training and get some good people in there so customers want to come back.
TD does not at all care about the people who work in the branch. They are paid very little and are expected to do it all. America's most convenient bank does not care if its employees have to drive in trecherous conditions to get to work. Even if there is a state of emergency, the branch is expected to be open and you are expected to be there. They never close. In term of moving up, it is true- it all depends on who you know. If you are liked and become part of the click you will succeed. It is hard to know the click at the branch level. If you don't know the click you will stay in the branch unless you leave for other work. TD branch employees are not paid well and raises per year run about .25 per hour. That's twenty five cents per hour- it isn't worth the time it takes to walk into and out of the manager's office. It's insulting.
Since TD Bank changed the senior managers of the company in retail. We are not an equal opportunity employer to the TD Banknorth legacy employees. We will never know what this means as long as we have commerce controlling our company. Mr. CEO you should take a look at what we are today, the reality of working for TD Bank is now based on preference who you know, what circle you are a citizen of. A successful, quality, producer, or experiences employee will not qualify the employee as a candidate for any opportunity to comcast their career at TD Bank. So many of them left beause of what is right and wrong, and more will follow. Make Change, or prepare to fix the problems that this will cause later as TD Banknorth did when they took over because of the same problems.. And so much more that will unfold when you decide to take a closer look at the people who you gave the key to run your company.
Hello Philippe,
I hope that your efforts are successful. An approach that I used that helped me to vent my just been robbed feeling was to educate residents of towns that have new TD Branches being announced. Sure some of the folks will be wealthy enough to avoid charges (God willing I'll be in that category with my recent degree although I wont be at TD Bank investing). Many of the folks are like us; responsible with our bills yet not able to always avoid their lending practices of Excessive Charges. Bottom line: TD Bank knows how to get good PR with Charity events yet there was nothing "Convenient" about the charges that they gave thousands of us. I paid $15.00 for one day during a month of less than $100. & if a person ever bounces a check they will pay Excessive Charges. Bottom Line: Their products don't match up with their competitors.
This is what I sent to an on-line newspaper RE a New Branch of TD Bank
Hello Residents of (List Town):
If you decide to choose TD Bank you may experience Excessive Fees as I have. I had a Simply Free Checking account that the bank switched to a Convenience Checking. I was notified by letter that there was an account change about to happen. In my busyness with work & school I did not take the time to read the letter. Page 6 mentioned an account balance minimum requirement change to $100. TD Bank began automatically charging me $15 per month. In my loyalty & busyness with life I stayed with them (my mistake). As money got tighter I also began to have car problems. I transferred money from another account to help my situation. It cleared the other account more than a day earlier & yet TD Bank had it listed as pending. They then charged me $140 (35 x 4). I do not want this to happen to you if you go through a tough time financially or are just not wealthy enough to avoid their charges in order to have a free checking account. My suggestion to you is do yourself a favor & choose Citizens bank they will actually pay you to bank with them with financial incentives for transactions or choose a credit union where you will also not be taken advantage of.
unavailable funds
What kind of bank has a contact phone number that even in an emergency such as their "computer glitch" has no message other than we can't help you at this time. Direct deposits are not recorded, yet they have no trouble paying your money out during this so called "glitch". I certainly have not encountered the service with them that I had when this was Commerce Bank in New Jersey. This will be the last 'glitch' I experience as a TD customer - I intend to start shopping for new banking services tomorrow!

Likewise, Hope they lose all their customers. They add all new fees and then can't even do their jobs correctly, and the CEO is making 10 mil+ a year!
customer service/mismanagement of money
TD Bank is by far the worst bank I have ever dealt with. My ordeal started with them cashing a forged check out of my account and 3 .5 weeks later is still an issue. They do not care about the client or about finding solutions. I am all about compromise and understand that things may happen but I expect a professional response and I expect to see a resolution to the problem. TD Bank has proven that not only are they unprofessional and disrespectful to their clients, they simply do not care.
Their systems have been down for days with deposits but they have no problem cashing, returning checks.
Once my account is straightened out I will leave them and let everyone I know that they should not bank with TD.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
My debit card, several credit cards and driver's license were stolen in July. Unauthorized charges were made using my debit card, which I promptly reported to TD Bank (within 24 hours). They, however, claimed that the charges were made by me, since the person making the charges had my address, and the signature was 'similar ' to mine. The thieves took my drivers license, so duhhh. I supplied Police Report, had the detective working my case call them, etc. They just gave me the run around, and suggested that I was lying, maybe I had a night out on the town, and then regretted it later. UNBELIEVABLE. My advice, file a complaint immediately with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. This is what I finally did, and I had my money credited back within 3 weeks. www.occ.treas.gov You can file your complaint online.
DO NOT waste your time waiting for TD bank to do the right thing.
im sad to say i used to work for them. they dont tell the employees whats going on until 5 mins before their shift. after that we had to deal with the customer blindly. sadly the tellers & customer service people are the ones who actually have to talk to the customers face to face. we try to help as much as possible but its really hard because they dont tell the employees much of anything. i'd closed my account with them asap!
od fees when eft deposits were delayed
TD Bank is charging us OD fees for the time epriod that, and I'll copy from teh online banki9ng website, "Please Note: Thank you for your patience. We are experiencing unusual delays in posting transactions to Customer Accounts. Please rest assured, your accounts are safe and secure. We will resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.".
Our credit card deposits are not clearing teh bank when they should, resulting in ODs. We were unable to transfer funds between accounts to cover overdrafts and so far no apology or refund. I hated this bank before but now am actively looking for a new bank.
They also do not have any type of "grace period" to cover an overdraft. As soon as your balance goes below 0.00, even by a penny, the fee is charged. And this doesn;t take into accout that we have more than one account with the bank with funds available to cover in our other account, or on our line of credit or on our overdraft protection account attached to the other bank account.
Absolutely this bank has got to be at the top of the worst ever!

horrible!
I have been with Commerce Bank since they opened, great bank until they day they merged with TD. They assured the customers it would be the same bank that garnished Commerce all of the influx of customers, WELL it isn't! Regis should have stayed sitting onthe couch b/c this bank SUCKS! CRS that don't know what they are talking about, Fees all of the sudden when the reason we banked with Commerce was because it was Hassel Free, Fee Free and Convenient, Credit Cards that have a ridiculous APR even if you don't carry a balance they are charging 14%...SHALL I CONTINUE!
I was supposed to have my paycheck direct deposited in my account on 9/29, well it is 10/1 and still no deposit! I have debits coming good today for bills and the money will not be there to cover b/c no one seems to know where my money is. Oh yeah and I can't call and inquire, or complain or anythng b/c all of the phone numbers don't work right now. They obviously are hiding in a hole becasue this TRANSITION is a bust. They are going to owe all kinds of customers money...if they ever get their friggin act together. As soon as this is all settled and I can find my money...I am taking it out of TD bank and keeping where it is safe...in my mattress! Oh and I am calling the Better Business Bureau to make a formal complaint...I suggest everyone else does the same!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Get your money and RUN ! It s been almost 2 weeks I am still missing my 450.00 they debit by mistake.
Post the message above
TD Bank is hardly the only bank around. It is time for all of us to change banks...We are fools or lazy if we don't They have absolutely no respect or gratitude for their customers. LET'S GET OUT!
If you agree email me.
direct deposit, terms change
Yeah, TD is having a problem with all Deposits. The best is, yes, you call them and can't get through cause everyone else is calling them too. When i did get through they, they stated it was only deposits. Well they are wrong it is debits too. Nothing from yesterday at 5p thru right now has came out of my account or gone in. They are also now changing their terms- Free checking accounts are no longer FREE. If your account falls below $100, they will charge a $15 fee. I don't have time to deal with stupid crap. I never had a problem when it was Comerce Bank. Since the switch over, i have had nothing but problems. Everything from fees they cannot explain being taken out of my account to horrid customer service to now my paycheck not showing. Granted they attempted to fix it by making my previous paycheck amt avail, but that amt is less than this one (i don't work overtime for nothing) and i'm sure it will all get screwed up in the end. I have no faith in this company. I am switching banks ASAP. Maybe WAMU will be more reliable.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
There have never been COMPLETELY FREE checking accounts. You need to re-read your account information. It's been this way before TD and commerce merged. Majority of the accounts are free of service fees for the first year. After that, yes if you drop below the minimum balance to waive service fees pf $100.00 they charge you $15.00. You also must remember that thats an option for you. If you cannot keep the minimum balance ALL of the month, you can switch to other accounts with less service fees and non required minimum balance. There is an account that only takes $3.00 a month, for no required minimum. This has been this way for yearrrsssss. The only difference is not everyone has something to complain about, so it stands out. Just re-read your account information. If you remember where that is...
This is ridiculous! It's 9 am on THURSDAY and our paychecks are STILL not posting. And what's worse, some of my co-workers are getting charged overdraft fees and they have money in their accounts! They have to fight with customer service to have them removed after assurances yesterday from customer service that there would be NO withdrawals either. We were told that the deposits were going to go in first and then withdrawals would follow. This is NOT the case. They are going to have a run on the bank if they do not fix this situation immediately!
extreme delay in posting direct deposits
Today I got paid by my employer as I do every two weeks, but this time TD Bank is experiencing "delays" posting transactions to customer's accounts. I have no access to funds that are mine. The deposit can be proven with a pay stub that funds were transferred to my specific TD Bank account number on today's date. Yet, still no access to my funds. Any bank that cannot post CASH DEPOSITS (direct deposit=cash) in a timely manner does not deserve my business. The is the LAST in a long line of bad experiences that I have had with TD Bank. I recommend to anyone reading this post that the immediately take their funds, investments, insurance, loans or any other product and transfer them to a more reputable company. TD Bank is NOT Commerce Bank by a long shot.
Not to mention that if you try and call their customer service number, there is a message stating that "Your call cannot be completed at this time - please try again later". This makes it sound as if this is a telephone operator providing this message, but it is not. THEY HAVE CHOSEN NOT TO TAKE ANY CALLS FROM THEIR CUSTOMERS. THIS IS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. I CANNOT EVEN TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT MY MONEY AND WHY IT IS NOT WHERE IT SHOULD BE. Oh - and they are not providing a time of resolution - it is listed on their website "as soon as possible". My funds better be in my account tomorrow or I will be filing official complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Reserve.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
TD BANK IS THE MOST RUDE BANK OR COMPANY FOR THAT MATTER THAT I HAVE EVER DELT WITH. THERE "CUSTOMER SERVICE" IS MADE UP OF NOTHING MORE THAN A BUNCH OF RUDE BUMBLING IDIOTS WITH THE EDUCATION OF A SECOND GRADE LEVEL. NO WONDER SO MANY PEOPLE DESPISE THEM.
Today is Tues. Nov 11th and TD Bank is still having problems. I made a CASH deposit to my son's savings account this afternoon. The account and available balance has been updated, however the ATM card can't be used. My son is getting a message, INSUFFICIENT FUNDS.
I'm very dissapointed with TD Bank. Considering we ran into problems at the beginning of October, I chose to remain a faithful customer. Not any more!
I just noticed they charge me $4 every month maintenance fee for SAVINGS account. I have never heard anything like that. Then they charged me $35 overdraft fee for the transfer that didn't occur. This is preposterous. Tomorrow I am going to close my account with TD and I WARN ALL OF PRESENT AND FUTURE CUSTOMERS - get out of this bank as soon as it's possible. I will never come back NEVER!
I've had the account with them since 2003 and now it's the high time to break the relation with THIEVES like TD BANK.
Same problem here, supposedly this is a ONE DAY lag behind thing. Well, here it is FRIDAY morning and the deposit that was suppose to be made WEDNESDAY evening/ THURSDAY morning is still not there. Rent check will bounce if this isnt straightened out today and we just moved into a new apartment. We also live paycheck to paycheck so I am also furious about this. Has anyone received their direct deposit yet? I am well past the 24 hour/1day supposed BS delay they keep telling everyone and someone mentioned in that "memo".
its not that td is not answering the calls, its that soooo many people are calling @ the same time & there's not enough customer service people in the call centers bc it sucks to work for td bank & there have been MANY people quitting. they dont tell the agents any info & gives us no details. we're just as frustrated as the customers bc we truly want to help but cant. also, a lot of the programs we use to help the customers has been crashing also. its just a sucky situation. i feel for everyone involved.
I finally got information about the "delay in posting funds" Here is a memo that I received from a friend that has a friend that works with TD bank.
internal – Document for Communicating ACH File Issue
What Happened:
We learned early this afternoon that the Federal Reserve did not receive one of our ACH files scheduled for delivery on September 29th. We have since transmitted and received confirmation from the Federal Reserve that the file has been received. This issue is not related to integration activities and we are currently working on identifying root cause.
Talking Points:
The types of transactions included in the file were primarily payroll transactions. This means that the employees of our corporate customers with direct deposit effective dates of 9/30/09, will have a one-day delay in receiving their payroll direct deposit. Other types of corporate payments which also may be impacted include vendor payments, loan payments and other payments to suppliers. These payments also will be delayed by one day.
Key Points:
* Unfortunately, a file of ACH entries was not received and couldn’t be processed by the Federal Reserve and, therefore, was not distributed to receivers’ banks as intended.
* The transmission was re-generated and successfully completed today.
* Because of the transmission failure, several entries which should have hit receivers’ accounts before October 1, will not become effective until October 1.
* We apologize for any inconvenience to our customers, their employees and trading partners.
* TD Bank values its customers and are very sensitive to the relationships our customers have with their own employees, customers, and suppliers.
Recovery: If our corporate customers or their employees have incurred fees with their financial institutions as a result of delayed transactions, we will provide restitution. Customers or their employees may seek restitution by visiting a TD Bank store.
Customer Letter: If you are asked to provide a letter to your customer explaining the situation, please use the attached letter. The only modification should be the name and address.
However, T.d. is handling the situation very poorly. Not answering there phone is so unprofessional!
www.irgrl.com
I blogged about it this morning.
Well I had the same issue this morning and Ilog in to see some crap that they are delayed in processing online seems there are a lot of people waiting for their money
I am filing with the BBB today.
I agree with you. I am beyond frustrated with TD Bank, their lack of knowledge on what is going on, when I will get MY money and how I am supposed to pay my bills which will be overdue. It even gets better that a few minutes ago they charged me an overdraft fee for going negative today...
I will be changing banks tomorrow, that is for sure.
no funds
TD BANK has been having some sort of computer internet glitch that started Friday...long story short, they are still DOWN and I have been embarrassed when trying to use my debit card to purchase food, pay bills and conduct business...my card is declined and I am getting told that there is INSUFFICIENT FUNDS! I was supposed to have my check deposited directly today, 30th and it is not in there...instead my account does not reflect anything but negative activity and to boot...$105.00 of overdraft fees!?!?!?! EXCUSE ME?
I attempted to call the 800 number and the automated #'s neither of which are working. That leads me to believe that they were well aware of the amounts of complaint phone calls they would be getting and shut down their phone systems as well. That is horrible customer service.
They told my husband who walked into a location that by 4pm everything would be fine...well that is not the case.
They did not notify us ahead of time about this interruption in my money and now how do I go about living, paying bills and conducting business...forgodsakes we are in a recession and money is a necessity.
How do they do this to us?
I am switching banks immediately! I am disgusted by this
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I am switching banks too, had enough of this Sh**! I called them 25min ago and I am still on hold as I write this comment. For the second time they charged me $280 for overdraft fees? WTF? I think the best way to show TD how disgusted we are with them is closing the account and not wasting time with this BS and terrible customer service.
Im am absolutely pissed with td banknorth! I've had an acct with them for several years and was very happy with the services provided. Now it all went to ###... ever since this merger everything has changed. From customer service to ridiculous fees. Now the topper... i cant gaet my own money and there is no way to see whats in my acct etc. I called and spoke to a rep after holding for several minutes for her to tell me everything was all set and my direct deposit was available, then i called to check my balances and it unavaialble again. Now I'm trying to check any info on my bank and i can't! I can't get through to the 1-800 number and online is not working! I'm going to go into the branch and close my acct ASAP! I have never had this happen before and the lack of empathy form the td banknorth staff is totally lacking.
They did the same ### to me. I literally just got off the phone with them. Call and complain, they will instantly credit the funds into your account if you're waiting on a direct deposit. They just cleared $800 into my account. Call this number: [protected]
###ing Canadians.
this is why canada sucks
Ever since their upgrade the entire banking system has been useless. I can't view my balances or make transfers because they have all the numbers eff-d up. Prior to the "update" you could see where pending debit card transactions came from, now you have to wait for them to post completely before you can.
This is what you get when a bunch of French Canadians buy up American businesses, complete ###.
### you Canada.
###.
You can't even defend yourself. I guess it is true about all you Canadians, you're a bunch of pussies.
You piece of ### canadians are the ones who wanted our American business. Thanks for ###ing it up just like you do to everything else.
###ing ###.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I do not know that my comment will be seen as such a late date... nertheless I wanted to leave a word on some nasty comments regarding Canadians.
I am also fighting for my life with the Toronto Dominion bank (with a small ''b'') so I strongly approve your comments of being the ''worse piece of ###'' a bank can be. However, I fail to undersgtand why you should ''emphasize'' on FRENCH CANADIANS as the TD bank's head office is situated in Toronto. Ontario.
There are Americans who are thieves - I don't think it would be Wise to say that ALL AMERICANS are thieves. Most Americans and Canadians are honest and brave people who have blind trust in their banking systems. The whole North-American territory has been robbed - at some point or other in their life. Maybe both our Governments should have a closer look at the abuse we all suffer at the banks' hands (agains, with a reservation that NOT ALL BANKS ARE THIEVES). As the saying goes ''don't get mad - get even''. So STAND UP AND BE COUNTED to yell loud and clear ''I AM FED UP AND I WILL NOT TAKE IT ANYMORE''. Get together and make a written complaint to your local MP and ''don't give up''... I know I will not (give up) even do I am soon entering my 70th year and fighting, as some would say, a battle I can't win against Canada's SECOND LARGEST BANK - but I can expose them for the ''### they are'' with procédures and documents that speaks for themselves.
All the best to you AMERICAINS.
A ''French Canadian from Montréal).
Oh Dear!
yes they are smart and talented, at what the hell makes you think I have HIV
and the US is full of [censored] people, you only have a handful of smart or talented people (Stephen King, Barack Obama, Michael Moore, just to name a few)
Peter you are the biggest ### I have ever seen. We are much larger then your rat-shack that you call a country. ps, Hows all that debt you guys have?
All you ###ing Americans remember we Canadians burned down your White House, AND IT FELT GOOD!
The Americans are right. Canadians are used to being treated like crap by banks and retailers. We are charged 15 to 20 per cent more for goods than Americans pay, even when our dollar was worth more.
Canadian government and business encourage anti-Americanism so it takes the attention from what they are doing to their own people.
Canadians need to speak up. I dropped the TD bank here in Canada as they are crooks - charging 2% to BUY American money when the CD dollar is worth more! Please don't judge Canadians by those idiots who had their usual brainwashed knee jerk reaction to any kind of criticism, especially from Americans who a lot of Canadians seem to think they are better than. NOT.
Hey Ostriches,
I'm Canadian and I think TD sucks too. In fact, a lot of us do.
Recently, I was dealing with their discount brokerage arm (TD Waterhouse). The Investment Rep told me someone would call me regarding my concern about their high trading fees (3x higher than many of their competitors!) for accounts under with less than 100K in consolidated assets, but never heard back even after I sent a follow-up email. The thing is I'm not far off from the 100K level so you'd think they would WANT to keep me as a customer (this was my first complaint and I've been with them for several years), but the (expletive) couldn't be bothered. I even copied their CEO on my last email and still nothing. If the CEO doesn't give a fig about customer service, why should the plebes. Anyhow, for my fellow Canadians, Scotia iTrade offers much better value for those of you with more than 50K in household assets but less than 100K -- $9.99 trades vs $29.99 (TD Waterhouse) plus they'll pay your transfer fee (up to $125) and give you up to 100 free trades (until March 31, 2009). Some smaller brokers, such as Questrade, offer similar incentives, but I'd rather do business with a major player.
TD Bank is now charging me a 5 dollar fee for using overdraft, and automatically takes 10 dollars a month to pay it back, but I already paid the next day when I got paid. They gave it back after a ### phone call. Now they are stealing 25 dollars a month from my bussiness account because it went below 500 dollars. TD Bank sucks. Good bye, off to join a credit union.
I also think somthing wrong is with the TD bank, especially because it is federal. The government, the police and the bank itself are screwing everything up and playing with all our rights in Canada. Have you ever thought where our rights to security and information went? Why we haven't really heard about bank robbery news on the newspaper or the news? That is because the government and the bank wants it to be covered up. By covering it up, the government saves money because then they don't have to increase jail space. The police don't have to do much, since they don't have to file anything and usually those criminals are those usual ones that they already know about. The bank also saves money because they don't have to waste money in improving security systems like having bulletproof glass infront of the tellers and stuffs like that. On the other hand, we see that the TTC is doing the reverse, they trying to use our tax money and their fundings to improve their own security, everything for themselves but not for the customers. Their new rules are only implemented to keep their trains clean. The upgrade of the metropass is also to help the TTC from counterfeit. The commercials about TTC and public saftey is really ###. I have seen situations where they could careless about the passengers. I remember that time when I was at Main station, this guy was talking on the payphone which was located right infront of the TTC collector booth. The guy then punched the window infront of him and it cracked and left. The employee in the booth did nothing nor did that street car driver who was smoking right outside that window. I can see how Canada is becoming more and more corrupted because we do not have a national identity, we have no unity. People are just too selfish nowadays. Therefore we need to maintain order and people have to start following laws and legislations again. Starting from the high authority people.
computer system upgrade
I can not believe that after 7 days tdb still has not completed their system transfer of customer information. This is absolutely ridiculous. Td bank should not have commenced the process unless they were sure that all computer glitches had been rectified! Not only did I have to deal with an embarrassing incident at a restaurant on 9/24 when my card was rejected but today 9/30, my husband's payroll check is not reflected in our account balance and shows that we are in arrears. And to add insult to injury, a recorded message at customer service says “we are sorry your call cannot be completed at this time, please try your call again later." we never had any of these problems when it was commerce bank! Your bank is going to loose a lot of customers and to think I use to bragg about this bank!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Well, they only say they're the most convenient bank, not the easiest to deal with or the one with the highest satisfaction rating.
RIP Commerce Bank. They used to be really great.
Wachovia is soon to be Wells Fargo - and that's no customer service bargain either. They had an employee sell thousands of peoples' account info. When fraud occurred, they denied anything had happened. Once it became public knowledge, they stonewalled on investigating the problems.
http://www.id-theft-security.com/lifelock-blog/2009/08/lifelock-review-wachovia-bank-employee-2-others-indicted-on-id-theft-bank-conspiracy-charges/
They are still causing problems for customers over this mess.
I've been having the same problem since 9/30 as well I thought I was the only one experiencing the agonizing experience of this damned computer glitch. I went to the branch in Valley Stream, NY, the employees there said that this problem should have been fixed along time ago. To make matters worse, I have been unable to get thru to customer service. They know that they have a ton of customers that are ready to crack some heads so their customer service line plays this horrible muzak while u are waiting for a customer service rep to get on the line and rip them a new one. I am seriously pissed with TD Bank Americas most inconvienient bank! F**K TD Bank
2 weeks out and I am now looking into Wachovia. I am done with TD Bank. After this amount of time, and with a consolidation that was in the works for 18 months, I have had it.
Phones and computers remain down, money continues to be unavailable and accounts are not only incorrect, but also untimely.
It is obvious they are unable to handle any new customers
how does a bank loose customers? what's so tight on you?
I find this whole situation appalling, this is a debacle of the worst kind. I’m in computers, if after a day there is a major effect on the system, rule 101 is you revert back to the backup. Fees are incurring on my account, not small fees either. Hundreds of dollars in fees. All customer service numbers are none operational. The website keeps going up and down. And the people in the bank (I know it isn’t their fault) are of very little help either because they are also in the dark or because they are over worked as well trying to keep the customers at bay. TD Bank is going at this situation like Bush did on the war on terrorism.
Little tip of advice if you step in [censored] you don’t dig your foot deeper into it.
wow... you guys really are dumb. I started an account 5 years ago as a 16 year old kid... If you guys heard what they tell you, instead of what you want to hear, they tell you its a FREE checking account for the first YEAR. After that there is a $15 service charge for falling under that balance. They also have accounts that charge you $3 a month but have no minimum balance. But once you hear FREE thats all you hear. Read the literature they give you instead of throwing it away and you will understand. Also, about the whole direct deposit ordeal, yes, they are having problems. But you guys are taking it out on the tellers, who have no control over the situation. They can only do what is instructed of them. Having irate customers does not help the situation. If you go calmly up there and explain your situation you will realize that you arent the only one having the problem and if you are calm, you are more likely to get your funds made available than someone who has an attitude...
but wait... that actually makes sense. people tend to act irrationally and yell until they get their way which i, personally, have no tolerance for... so continue to get mad, but all banks go through this and they arent stealing your money, there is just delays.
mndomination
Another 'genious' working behind the counters at TD Bank! Walking into TD Bank now feels like walking into DMV. No one can help you with anything. You say you work at TD Bank, then obviously you should know what's going on as well as an ETA as to when this issue should be resolved... OR maybe TD is not telling their own people ### either!
Call it like it is, anyone that shuts down their customer service number to avoid contact is a coward. It's a job function to answer the phone, so DO IT! I get it, it takes some time for systems to get back up, but come on, holy ###, it's 2009 here and almost a f'in week without funds...
mndomination must be a typical 18 yr old punk employee from TD that walks around with nothing else better to do while watching lines back up at the counter on a Friday afternoons...
I, too, am having some issues and patiently awaiting to make sure my mortgage payment is processed and my paycheck is deposited. I was explaining the situation to a co-worker today and she suggested that each day, I print out the online screen to make sure that debits and credits are done properly. As you all know, some transactions are present one day and the next day it has changed or appears different. This way, if anything happens in your account or monies are lost, you will have back up to prove your point.
I know when I speak to customer services, they state they will cover any fees or penalties associated with this process, but that doesn't help me much when bills start going past due, etc. I hope they have this resolved shortly.
I went into TD Bank this morning regarding my $2500 paycheck that was (supposedly) a direct deposit into the bank on Tuesday. The Bank manager informed me that NO direct deposits have been credited to Client accounts since the 27th of September. Also, the Customer service line is down, the top of the TD hierarchy is no longer in touch with it's bank managers and they have no idea when the system will be up. Holding customer monies should be illegal, but when I called the SEC hotline [protected]) I was told that they already knew about the TD Bank's computer conversion issues and that there was nothing to complain about - TD is in contact with the SEC and we "just have to be patient". It is the end of the month and bills are due. Many people get paid on the last day of the month. The papers are just reporting about the web site being down, neglecting the fact that millions of dollars have not been credited to client bank accounts in five days. This is wrong and I urge everyone to take their accounts elsewhere once the funds are straightened out. As for mndomination telling people to "get over it" - you are an idiot. If enough people leave over this fiasco, expect layoffs in the near future.
The only way to send a message to TD bank is to actually close your accounts, not just stomp your feet. I opened a new checking account online last night with Chase bank, took 10 minutes. I encourage all to do the same at the bank of your choice. Dont settle for this BS, there is strength in numbers. BTW Chase has account opening specials $100 - $150 to open a checking with direct deposit. Other banks may have similar deals. DO IT NOW!
direct deposit
TD Bank did some upgrading of their system from Friday Setember 25 until Monday September 28th, 2009. What they did not tell their customers was that anyone who was getting their payroll, pension, disability, unemployment or any other funds check deposited in this time frame will have to wait until the 28th to get their funds. There was no letter advising of this to their customers with the monthly statements. When I called the bank they said well if you bank on line it states we are updating our system, yes it did state that, however it did not state that direct deposit funds would not be available. Now what about the people who do not have a computer and do any kind of banking on line? what about the elderly people who would have needed that money for medication, or what if someones rent was due and they were waiting for their pay check to be direct deposited. For this TD bank has failed their customers. Shame on them..
@ Tddownhill I finally received my money Tuesday morning which was way over 72 hours later, and I am now dreding tomorrow because my payroll will be in again and rent is due, now there are fees showing up in my account which TD Bank has alot of nerve charging since this whole mishap has been their fault from the begining. I tried to call the number 1.888.751.9000 and it tells me that my call can not go through, and when I finally get through I waited for an hour only to be hung up on from an operator who was having a personal conversation laughing with a co-worker in the backround...if I could post a little picture in my comment it would be of a woman with red steam coming out of her ears...

Direct Deposit ~ No ones direct deposit went through. They can't give you any good answers and I don't have any money. I hate them. This is a real big problem.
I am leaving the bank. Hit me back if you are having issues as well.
I a student in college waiting for my Financial Aid to come in (around 2 G's) That is for my rent, food, books, and basically everything you LITERALLY NEED to live! well its now 5 Am where I am, and I walked to the bank at 2 Am to check my account, and apparently instead of having $2, 000+ i have -$80.46... Its a regular student checking account...WITH NO OVER DRAFT! so... I've got no idea how they managed to figure that one out, but it is now been 2 weeks since I signed my loan documents. and at the beginning of the school year (Fall 2010), I was using CIBC and within 5 business days, (Closed account with them, Why? I don't know)... So I don't know about anyone else, but the fact that its still not there, I had to pull from my savings account, which I'm sure I will have a penalty to pay for that for pulling it out early (I set it up that way so I wouldn't spend it). I know dumb move but I'm bad with saving, and it would have worked if TD wasn't so unreliable for "DIRECT" deposits... now I'm going to miss class (can't afford the gas) and I've had to tell my landlord the situation, lucky for me, his son is also in school, so a LITTLE sympathy there... Thanks TD. supposed to get 2 G's and now I'm - 80$! YAY! hopefully when I walk down in another half hour its in there or I'm going to have one of those F****** days...
My Boss just tried to set up direct depositat TD and he was told that they can't do it because credit union (the bank my wife banks with) is not a bank and so there for they cannot set up direct deposit what a load of crap that is. Then i went directly to my boss's bank to cash the check that he wrote me and they wouldn't cash it because i don't have an account with them. So now im stuck with 2 checks that i cannott get cashed or deposited. I hate banks they have no problem taking your money but the minute you need it or want it, it becomes a huge problem. I am so fed up this has been going on for 2 weeks i have bills and a mortgage to pay and i cant do it because of this bank. Where is the protection for the people who use these banks any idea who to call to report this?
I am tired of being scammed for every dollar I make from this bank. They are unethical. I have started a blog at the below address. Leave a comment. Leave lots of comments. If I get enough interest, I will start writing to the powers that be in our state houses and Capitol Buildings. I am not well-versed in how this kind of thing works, but I have to believe that if enough people complain about their practices, someone will look into it

run don't walk bad customer service outright dishonest theives
i bought an item with my tdbank online i had return the item then td bank tells me i need a written receipt of where i paid for the item even thou it was on my state. this bank are theives deceptive and at point had to contact sommerce to file complaint. wrse bank i ever delt with
One day TD Bank rep called me to market their SCA account protector. I asked them to send me the information for me to look it over. A few weeks later I got a statement showing a $99 dollars charged to my account under SCA protector. I didn't even agree to enroll in it. For nearly two months now I have been calling and trying to have them remove that charge. Their excuse was the system was showing it as "pending" and they can't do anything about it. The supervisors/managers kept postpone the issue and asked to call back later, he's still looking into the issue. Its been nearly two months now since i filed the complaint and still unresolved. I can't believe the BBB is giving them an A+ rating. This bank is a scam! Everywhere I looked on the web there are tons of bad reviews for TD Bank. However, there are no posting on how we can do anything to get our money back, there's only complaints. Can someone give some advise on how we can get our money back?
THIS IS THE WORST BANK EVER! My card was NOT APPROVED recently at a business. Fine...next thing I know, they are telling me it DID go through...and they are charging my $35.00! THEN...a few days later I made a wd from the ATM. Plenty of money in there, etc...few days later they had deducted MORE charges in the amount of $140.00 saying the balance was negative! I have written them COUNTLESS emails and I keep getting the same answer..."we are buried with correspondence and will get to your email as soon as we can!" That was one week ago! I HAVE HAD IT! Terrible, terrible BANK! They have made us BROKE!
My direct deposit is at least two days behind and I'm trying to figure out if it was even accepted or was rejected by the bank since no one there can find any record that it is even in the midst of processing. I loved Commerce Bank, but it had to sell out to a huge black hole of a bank which obviously doesn't understand how to merge systems. Maybe this sort of crap is acceptable up in Canada, but now, during a frickin recession is not the time to screw people over and not give them access to their money. I am lucky enough to have a reserve that was saved for Christmas to be able to use now to keep us from missing any payments this month, but god help me if I didn't.
I too am, and know many others who are, very annoyed by this whole situation. I do not work in the banking or computer business at all. In fact I am a second grade teacher...but to come on the computer and call the workers (who are probably under a ridiculous amount of stress and are also very angry about the results of this computer glitch that has come from the 'powers that be' above them, not the workers themselves who are people just like you and I with families...who are working overtime to help try their best to ease the customers minds...without anyone telling THEM what the mistake is) is absolutely saddening to me. Unfortunately we are all looking for someone to blame here and take our anger out on, and I feel as though calling the workers "idiots" or other words of the like, for not know what is going on is wrong. They, just like you and I, most likely do not know what the problem is...and they were probably hoping just as much as us when we called them to inquire what the deal was, that everything would just click and come together so they could get home to their families and go back to an average and less-stressful working environment.
fees!
I made 19 dollars in purchases- with my visa card.
Now the bank is charging me 175 dollars in overdraft fees because apparently
my balance online differs from what is actually in my account.
Sound like it's impossible-? tell it to the person writing this complaint who at the moment in in tears.
How we'll make it through the week I don't know- the bank is taking all of my paycheck in fees.
DO NOT TRUST TDBanknorth--> be warned.
Greedy corporate bank.
(Resumes crying)

Citizens Bank is much better. No monthly service charge checking with no minimum requirement rather than $100 minimum like TD Bank. I am careful not to bounce checks yet I'd have one or two days with less than $100 & TD Bank would give me a $15 charge. I guess if they send you a letter in the mail talking about a change in your account & page 6 talks about a new fee they can charge whatever they want to you in fees. TD Bank also charged me $14o (35 x 4) for an electronic transfer that cleared the other account more than a day earlier. Choose a credit union or another bank like Citizens where you will not be taken advantage of.
One thing that we can do is send respectful but honest, brief, posts on-line like the one I just wrote when they open a new branch & there's an on-line announcement. People need to be informed about what TD Bank is really like.
On charity events like food drives this is what I have said for example.
" TD Bank took $155.00 of my families' money for food. They changed my Simply Free Checking to a Convenience Checking that automatically starting charging my family $15.00 per month for any day of having less than $100. Money started getting even tighter. I transferred money electronicaly & it cleared the other account. TD Bank had it listed as pending & I was then charged $140.00 ($35 x4 transactions) "
Let's raise awareness about this bank. Don't swear, be honest & respectful so that you will be taken seriously by your readers.
I am absolutely baffled by my recent experience with this. I have been a customer of Commerce Bank since '98 and have only once ever incurred an overdraft fee with them. When this happened with Commerce, it was a reasonable amount, and I actually understood what the problem was when I called and had it explained to me by customer service. Admittedly, my mistake and it hasn't happened again... until now with TD Bank, but this time when I called customer service, I felt like I was talking to a wall. I have no idea how they could possibly justify the $140 overdraft fee that they slapped me with! At no point did I have a negative balance according to both my online statements AND my own personal bank register. When I went through it with the supervisor, they finally agreed to refund the fees. So, I go online to find out that yes, they refunded me that money but now there is a mysterious additional debit of $105 to my account. When I called to find out what this is, I am told that it is another overdraft fee that was incurred as a result of insufficient funds caused by the previous overdraft that was now refunded. This one, they refused to refund to me. For the first time in my life, my family is living paycheck to paycheck, paying our bills and being responsible and I feel as though I have been victimized by deceptive and predatory banking practices. These fees are not only unfair but they are outrageously excessive. I plan on speaking to my branch manager about this and if they cannot resolve it, I will find a new bank immediately. Are there any decent banks out there? I really liked Commerce - it's a shame.
True! They are charging overdraft fees and taking money from our account even if transfers were already made. When we check our account online, there were no negative balances, but still there were overdraft fees paid. The available balance that we see through online banking is not true. It is different from what appears in their back office.
What then is the use of online banking when we could not rely on it to check our transactions as they occur, as well as the available balances? They don't post the transactions according to the date and time that they occur. They post transactions in a very fraudulent way by changing the order and the dates on which they occurred, so that although you knew that you have funds available and that there are no negative balances in the preceding transactions, they maintain their position to charge those unconscionable fees. Demands had been made by calling the customer service reps and supervisor but efforts were just futile and in vain. They refused to give back these fees that should have been reversed and refunded to our account. They have been doing these for at least two or three times a month, depleting our account. Please be warned!
bad service
TD Banknorth used to be a good bank. I signed up for a "free" checking, no minimums, no monthly charges, etc. Then it all changed with no warning. This caused my account to overdraw. Then if you don't pay it, they tack on another $35.00 every five days. Well I fought back and won. If it happens to any of you - fight back. Here is the contact information for Banknorth. Businesses count on consumers being doormats, after all we have been tolerating exceedingly bad customer service over the past years. It is time to demand customer service as it used to be in the United States. Banknorth will also deduct the largest debit first that way all the smaller ones will accumulate $35.00 fees for each one, regardless of whether it is $1.00 or whatever. They do not make deductions or credits based on the date and time of the activity. They make it based on what will get the most number of fees for Banknorth.
Bottom line is I wouldn’t bank with td Banknorth again, no matter what. Banks used to be where you put your money to keep it safe – not anymore. Banks such as td Banknorth abuse their customers in order to generate the largest amount of fees. They do not give a rat’s whatever about the customer.
You are much better off banking with a local community bank or credit union, not a large conglomerate based in a foreign country – yes Canada is a foreign company. At this stage of the game we should only be supporting American based companies anyway. While it is nice to have the convenience of having “your” bank everywhere you go – it is not so nice when they attempt to steal from their customers.

loan denied
Bought car throught a local dealer and applied for a loan through Chase. On the delivery date, the car was damaged. The next day the entire transaction was cancelled and my $5, 000 deposit plus another $250 in registration fees were refunded. On 8/29, receided a letter from TDBanknorth postmarked 8/24 saying my car loan on 8/10 was denied based on data from Experian. Called Experian and they provided and complete report of 29 pages with NO derogatory comments - perfect credit. There is no obvious reason for TDBanknorth's refusal. There letter has to be issued in error. To date they HAVE NOT responded to email or letters and they will not discuss the problem on the phone. Customers should be wary of doing business with them - they have expanded too fast and our insensitive to people - especially Senior Citizens.

hidden fees
I have had a TD Bank account since I was 18. Recently, I was trying to navigate their recently unveiled "new and improved" website and noticed some service fees. Three different $15 fees appeared on my account over the past two months. After calling customer service, I learned that they charged my account because the balance had "slipped" below $100. I told them that might type of checking did not have a minimum balance and they, in turn, informed me that according to a "green booklet" I should have received in May that they had recently instituted one. They told me that I could switch to another checking account that did not have a min. balance. I asked them why they turned my account into an account type that was nothing like my original when there was clearly one more similar. I also asked them if they were also going to start rewarding me with these service fees every time my account was over $1000 which it is most of the time. When I asked the brilliant CS rep what service was being carried out on m behalf, he told me that it was meant to make sure that customers always had a "cushion" and were given a "warning" when their account balance became too low. Ha! I told him it would be much more productive to send some sort of email alert and he let me know that they also have that service as well. After refunding $30 of the fees as a courtesy gesture, he told me to not be surprised if I saw another charge next month since my bank account was currently at $96.75. I told him that when the $30 refund was added I would be over $100. He said unfortunately all transactions had to be posted by 5 p.m. It was 5:15. This bank is desperate- switch to another immediately.

FYI, Key Bank's "Key Saver" (savings account) terms and conditions state $300 as the minimum daily balance. The "Key Express Free Checking" (checking account) T&C has zero minimum balance.
A few years ago I overdrafted my checking account and expected the savings account balance to be used to cover the discrepancy, as Wells Fargo did for me when I lived on the West Coast. Key didn't do that, which took me by surprise, and charged every ensuing transaction some large fee. I complained in person at a Key Bank branch and they set me up with an overdraft account that is more or less a credit line. There was no charge for setting it up and the only drawback is that any balance remaining in there should be paid quickly (usually via the website), as it incurs interest.
To "TD Bank- Customer Care "
In reference to your statement, "But our new product set offers more options, making it easier for Customers to find a product that fits their banking preferences." I already HAD a product that fit my banking prefrences, that's why I selected it in the first place. You changing it has nothing to do with me, only yourselves. I switched to TDBanknorth (about 1 year before the merger with Commerce) precisely because they had a free checking and savings account that met my needs. When they merged with Commerce, conveniently the named changed to 'TDBank' but all the accounts changed to Commerce accounts with minimum balances and outrageous fees. Like the writer said, if there was a 'new' account more similar to the old account, they should have been placed there. Instead TDBank placed them where it suited them best, not suited the customer best. Which is precisely why I never opened a Commerce bank account.
When Citizens Bank bought Commonwealth Bank (a PA bank with branches in eastern PA), they matched my checking and savings account with the best suited option from their catalog. They were also nice enough to grandfather the Commonwealth Bank fee structure which was an added bonus as Citizens fees were higher. When TDBanknorth and Commerce merged, I had hoped they would do the same since both banks advertise how convenient and customer-focused they are. But I now see how wrong I was when I find the minimum balance for my TDBank savings account seemly changed twice (from $0 with TDBanknorth, to $100 when they told me of the conversion, to $250 on Sept 25 which I never heard of). I'm now having to shop around again for a bank.
As we Build the Better Bank our goal is to establish a common product set. These product changes will ensure that our Customers from Maine to Florida all have access to the same financial products. These changes did affect some fees and products. But our new product set offers more options, making it easier for Customers to find a product that fits their banking preferences. Our store representatives are happy to discuss options with you. Please contact your local store or our 24/7 call center at [protected]. Thank you!
new fees??? switch banks now!
I opened my account in Philly about 3 1/2 years ago. While using TDbank in Maine(which was a major pain in the ### because their systems didn't link up) the branch manager told me that I am very lucky to have this account because I will be "grandfathered" in for the no atm fees forever. Well I guess now I was wrong! I was just charged my first $15 dollar maintenance fee for my balance dropping below $100.
I keep almost 99% of my money in an online bank that pays super high interest and charges no fees whatsoever(Ally.com)! This bank will even contact you if your balance drops below a certain amount...fathom that! A Bank that actually cares.
TdBank has is all wrong here(not to mention the new website design sucks)! They don't give a ### about their customers. During a recession they are taking money out of people's pockets...not to mention you don't earn any interest with the money that you do actually have! I would highly suggest looking into Ally Bank online. I have had a great experience with them. Their website is so easy to use. I plan on canceling my account as soon as I switch over my automatic payments.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
That fee has nothing to do with ATM Fees. It is charged if for any day within the 30 Days
of your cycle you fall below $100. It sucks I got charged too for the first time but they did advise via mailing last month.
rip off
I have been a victim of TD Bank as well. I signed up for free checking w/ no minimum balance, and then low and behold they change the rules. That is not the contract I signed up for. If they had at least informed me I would have closed out the account before I had fees that I had no knowledge of put me in the negative on this account I hardly ever use. It is used for specific purposes. I have also had money stolen for OD fees when there was actually a balance to cover any activity. I have had quite enough.
I did not realize and should have, that TD Banknorth is a Canadian Corporation. I have a practice of only doing business with American companies and corporations – not that they are any better these days. The American consumer has become so complacent and apathetic, allowing these companies to treat us a door mats. This consumer says not anymore.
Banknorth lost a lawsuit back in April, costing them $50 million; perhaps this is why they have begun these predatory practices. They would have been far better off to not conduct business in such a way that it put them in the position to lose such a lawsuit.
For all of you complaining on this and other boards – do more. Email everyone on your contact list; tell everyone you know to beware. Complain to the FDIC, BBB and AG if applicable. Bad word of mouth can be very damning to a company. Email everyone in the company that you can. Call everyone in the company that you can. Do not take no for an answer – you can and should fight back. By calling executives and the like you are costing the bank money. These people are highly paid and the time spent with dissatisfied customers is time away from what they consider more important business, business that generates high revenue for the bank.
Below are email addresses for executives of TD Bank. I will be posting some Blackberry and office numbers of these executives in a few days. Call them, bother them, cost them money – after all they are taking yours. Stop being a victim!
Bharat Masrani ; cheryl cornish ; Cheryl Cornish ; fred graziano ; kathy brown ; robert falese ; stephen boyle ; william ryan
Check back for update to include telephone numbers.
I won my battle with banknorth. It was not easy and took perseverance, but the important thing to know is if you fight back they will give you your money back and rightfully so. Here is a phone number for Cheryl Cornish as VP, she is a pain in the a(# but doesn't like to be bothered - bother her and everyone else too. [protected]. Email all these people too
Bharat.Masrani@tdbank.com, william.ryan@tdbanknorth.com, fred.graziano@tdbank.com, robert.falese@tdbank.com, stephen.boyle@tdbank.com
Do not let them take advantage of you. Good luck and fight back!

They've been screwing Canadians for hundreds of years why should they be any different in the US. As for contact with Bharat Masai, all that happens is that your emails are BLOCKED by someone covering for him called Brandy Cvejich who under no circumstances will put you in touch with this man. That really have everything tied up in a nice little package at this POS bank (official thieves of OUR MONEY) and ALL with government approval. If you don't believe me, try taking the issues to you members of government. They too will quickly dismiss it. Hmmm guess greasing the palm has never stopped.
Your emails do not work as they just came back undeliverable.
Spoke to Cheyl Cornish today about a complaint on the above number. Rather disappointingly in a way, she was charming and seemed helpful, though my whinge was way outside her sphere of operation. Better may be to go for the Bank's non-execs. Three who should be reasonably accessible are
Brian Levitt
Carole Taylor
Harold McKay QC
They are all lawyers with big Canadian firms and their direct lines are about two minutes Googling away. They will hate being chased but remind them, politely, they are directors and they have legal and moral responsibilities when the bank's executives fail to do their jobs
Good luck everybody.
Credit unions treat you much better. I'll never use any of the big banks again.
excessive overdraft fees
My husband and I opened 2 checking accounts with TD Bank a year and a 1/2 ago, right before they merged with Commerce Bank and at the time there wasn't a monthly maintenance fee or fees for using the ATM. Now, we have a fee every month and on top of that extremely excessive overdraft fees! I have been charged over $1, 000 in fees this summer because they balance they keep isn't accurate. On top of that they deduct transactions from highest to lowest, not in the order that they were done! Not only that but if you're overdrawn for 5 consecutive days you will be charged $35 and continue to be charged $35 every 5 days until a deposit is made! And this is the best one, I was charged a $35 overdraft fee for a $18 transaction from Netflix because when it was authorized I only had $11 in my account (it's automatic every month) and then when it came out of pending and it actually "posted" to my account I was charged $35 again! I called customer service and the rep said that they will mail me the "Schedule of Deposit Account Charges" for me to review.
This bank is ridiculous! With the economy the way it is how do they get away with charging these fees! There has to e something to do about it. I am closing my accounts with TD Bank today!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
It all started on 9/25/2009. "The Great Glitch" as TD Bank called it. I went to withdraw $50.00 out of my account and couldn't get any money out. Went home to check my accounts online and couldn't get access to them. Then tried to call and couldn't get through to customer service.
Keep in mind that all of my paychecks are direct deposit along with my husbands Social Security. Because I work 2 full time jobs for a total of 75 hours a week, everything I do is online. Auto Pay, Direct Deposit, etc.. According to TD Bank they were implementing a new program and changing the way they charged overdraft fees. Since everything I do is automatic, TD Bank would process all my direct payments 1st, return them, charge me outrageous fees and then post my direct deposit payroll. Of course at that point I would have a negative balance . Some weeks I would have around $15.00 left out of a $1000.00 paycheck and no real bills covered. They had returned them all, charged their fees and then credit my paycheck.
I couldn't hardly get it stopped, because they would get my paycheck, before I could and take all their fees first. This has sent me into a financial tailspin, that I am having a hard time getting out of. I work so many hours, because I am trying to climb out of a financial mess from my husbands illness and the last thing I needed is their thievery.
I went in to the branches several times, made numerous calls, all to no avail. As of 1/12/2010 they have taken $4, 370.00 in overdraft fees. By the time I realized they were not going to correct anything, it took my companies several weeks to change my direct deposits and I am still working on canceling the auto payments. After finally contacting the BBB, they are now offering to zero the negative balances out, but "too bad" about my $4, 370.00 in fees, not including all the fees charged by the companies who got things returned to them.
Someone should seriously look at the banks and begin regulating their fee scales. This is detrimental to the "little man" who has to work for a living.
My complaint is quite different from those posted above. Because TD Bank did not respond to problems we had with the IRS, we had to hire a tax consultant to take care of things. FACT: TD Bank was responsible for filing our employee withholding, which we did. The MONEY WAS MISROUTED to the IRS and our account showed no payment was made. TD Bank was NONRESPONSIVE to both us and our tax consultant. We are still thrashing this out with the IRS after 5 years.
Now we have a levy on our checking account from the State of NH for a Tax Warrant. This is outrageous for two reasons. First, we don't owe any money to the State of NH and such a levy should have never been made against an account that has federal funds such as SS payments in it. This is federal law. Clearly, the Bank has violated federal law. I'm sure this will take weeks, months, or possibly years to reconcile. In the meantime, we are living on nothing. This bank should not be allowed to operate since it clearly doesn't know what the law is nor does it care about its customers.
I will be moving ALL of my accounts to another bank on Monday morning 4/8/13.

TD Bank irobs people and their practices are ridiculous. Whnen it was Commerce Bank, you knew why over overdrew something, it was clear as day. With this ridiculous bank... not only do you get a fee for somethingt hat makes absolutely ZERO sense, it seems that there is never just one, there is ALWAYS at least two. I have recently changed banks because I'm tired of this. I am responsible with my money and to get charged OD fees all the time for things that literally make no sense to me seems shady. They truly are lining their pockets! They say the do not charge OD fees on "pending transactions"..the hell they don't! Not only do they charge it when it is pending, but they charge it again once it posts! I cannot grasp why in the hell you have mpney on your account that you use and later they tell you that you really didn't have it?! I have an avail balance of $28 after my vacation, of which I did not use, however, the CSR said to me that it said I had $28 as my avail balance but I really didn't. When I asked him to explain that he basically said that it just wasn't there... that is strange considering NOTHING else was coming out of my account that week I was on a cruise, and everything I spent was charged at the end... my original balance 1680.00, my charges 1652, my avail balaance 28...however, it wasn't really there? MAKES NO DAMN SENSE! It was there and that was teh final straw for me, I have since switched banks...now I have peace of mind that I am not being ripped off!
Maggie writes, "If the money is already in your account before you make the debits/checks, it won't matter how they order the posting". Guess what, you are wrong. TD Bank will charge you overdraft fees on debit card purchases on a Friday that were paid for on a Monday. Let's be clear, these purchases are not gas purchases where there is a lag time, they were purchases where the money was in the account at the time of the purchase. The funny thing is not one customer rep. could explain to me how this is possible. I have been send information three times, none of which explained why they are charging overdraft to debit transactions that have already been paid.
On TD's website under pendind transactions it clearly states, 'It is important to remember that your money is considered spent when you conduct the transaction; not when it posts to your account'. Really, well aparently TD bank has not read their own website. One customer rep. actually said to me that it only looks like that is happening.
Charging overdraft fees to a debit card purchase when it posts is clearly a direct contradiction to their website. When I pointed this out to TD Bank, they closed my account an put me on the chexsystem. Well...I'm off to small claims court.
I am 21 year old college student who does not make a lot of money working retail. This past friday i deposited my check for $ 475. They said the check will not clear till tuesday im assuming this is because monday was martin luther king day. so i manage to do without any money till monday in which i checked my accout balance that said Balance: 475 and Available: 10. being naive as i am i thought that i was able to use this money without any over drafting fees. however that monday i spent around 105 dollars on several menail items which were all approved, now on saturday i recieve a letter telling me that i am being charged 210 DOLLARS in over drafting fees, which now leaves my account balace at $-230... is there any way to fight this? i do not any means of going three weeks without money...
YES! TD is in fact using dishonest methods to line thier pockets! A Payroll check that used to clear in a day all of a sudden stalls and they don't clear it. In the meantime about 14 small purchaces like coffee, etc totaling perhaps $50 caused over $500 in overdraft fees. As things get quicker and faster why dose that become mysteriously slower. The point is the depost was made with a large companies payroll check like it had been for years without any problems. The money I spent was MY money - not like I emptied my account and kept going. They let the compound overdrafting go on for days before I received the first notification which never mentioned the very first one that seemed to cause the domino effect. I asked for a copy or confirmation that such a notice went out an they said "We don't keep records". The Bank manager was downright rude and even laughed at me. When asked for his superior I was handed an 800 number to call without results. It is Clear that they have set up a self imposed defacto usary lending system forced down the customers throght by stalling deposits and imposing predatory fees." In the meatime CEOs get multi millions in bonuses after athe Bailouts. WHERE are our LEGISLATORS?
worst customer service
This bank is the most uncivilized bank in a civilized world. They are worst in customer service, they have been giving me a run around and fishing for reason to decline my loan. They have lied to me so many times about why it took them over 5 months to give me a reason why my loan is still in process and finally i receive a letter which says my loan has been declined, the worst part is that TD Bank employee did not even sign the letter before mailing it. They also lied about the credit reporting Agency that they use for checking your credit. I called the agency and found out that they never checked my credit and made a decision without any base. BIGGEST LIARS in the WORLD. A BANK THAT SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR ANY SERVICES.
Very uncivilized employees working at TD Bank. Worst bank to go to for any kind of services.
PLease do not go to TD Bank for any HOME LOANS OR ANY KIND OF LOANS. All you will get is a run around and than finally you will recieve a letter stating your loan has been declined.
I still don't understand how can JD POWER AND ASSOCIATES call them Number #1 they should be given the worst bank award.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I HATE this bank! They will leave small purchases sitting in pending until your insurance payment or something other hits the account and "pay" all for maximum fees. Go to Chase, they are civilized.

The most unprofessional bank ever. This bank gave me a runaround for more than 6 months to process my loan. My loan was never processed and they are chargeing me Applications Fees in excess of $1, 500 for withdrawing my app. They have sweeped my bank account and when they found no money was there they charged my an overdraft fee.
I went to TD bank with good Credit and made an application for a cash-out loan. They have killed my investment and have have hit my credit rating.
TD bank is bad for business!

This bank is the worst at customer service and all the hidden fees they charge you with. I have been a customer for more then 15 years. I am moving all my accounts to any where else! I hope other people do the same. This is why bankers all have a bad rep. for being greedy.
hate hate hate td bank! i've been a customer for over 15 years and NEVER was charged $770.00 in overdraft fees in one month. i've gone thru all my records and do not see i've done anything wrong. they cant waive my fee because in december they did a courtesy wave. reason why they did a courtesy fee wave was because in december when i went to change my christmas club to biweekly they opened another account and was taking money biweekly and also weekly. wasn't my error, the stupid girl didnt fix it correctly. so due to there error in december they wont fix another error that looks like its not my fault once again... HATE HATE HATE TD BANK...
TD Bank is the worst ever! You would think the service at any bank would be superb; afterall thet are using I money to loan out and make a fortune. I am out of there; I can't take th BS anymore with this bank. I would have follwed Commerce Bank anywhere, but TD Bank should be sued...I really think that the goverment shold step in and investigate this bank. Are these business practices even legal? I too live from paycheck to paycheck and I just paid $200.00 in overdraft for the banks error. THIS IS AMAZING HOW FOR SUCH A BIG COMPANY TD BANK AND PARENT COMPANY DON'T KNOW HOW TO TREAT CUSTOMERS.
