Scribd unauthorized credit card charges

I am extremely frustrated as every month my credit card is charged $8.99 by Scribd. It has been going on for 4 months already (Sept 25, October 31, Nov 25 and the latest, Dec 25. I checked my account settings to try and unsubscribe but it shows I don't even have any membership plan. I signed up for the free trial and this is what I get! Monthly charges from Scribd. What the heck?!

Scribd cannot cancel my premium membership

I am trying to cancel my premium membership for Scribd

On 26 November I signed up for a free trial membership of SCRIBD on the understanding that I could cancel the membership at any time..

Order No, [protected]

I have been trying to cancel my membership on the SCRIBD webpage through the account settings link https://www.scribd.com/account-settings

But have not been able to cancel my membership as the account settings page is not loading fully

I do not want to extend my membership..

On beginning my trial membership I recieved the following message from Scribd

Here's a receipt for your records:
Payment method: Credit card
Plan: 1 month Free Trial to Recurring Monthly Membership ($8.99/month after free trial ends)
Order Number: [protected]
Amount charged: $0.00
Your card will not be charged until December 26, 2017.
A temporary authorization hold will be placed on your card in the amount of your plan for validation purposes only. This hold does not represent an actual charge, and will be voided in a few business days.

Scribd subscription

This email summarizes my opinion about Scribd customer service. I have had a couple of instances over the years where they do not cancel a trial memberships and then hit you with monthly charges. Here is my recollection of what I experienced:

1. Their free trial "roles over" to a monthly charge silently, never notifying you that this has, in fact, occurred. This policy turns into a classic "gotcha".
2. Their free trial cancellation system somehow misses the fact that you went through the website and clicked the cancel button. This is probably just a bug, but I've hit it twice. (I used only the web site and a Firefox browser for all interactions.)
3. There does not appear to be an email confirming cancellations, so you get no "receipt."
4. They send no receipts or indications of ongoing charges. This appears to be their policy.
5. Their end-user customer support is web/email only, refusing to provide support over the phone. While they can argue this is most efficient, some customers prefer the speed of phone support.
6. Their refund policy appears to be "last 30 days only, " even though the charges were incorrect (#2) and hidden from obvious view (#4).

Most of these issues appear to be the result of corporate policy. All I can do is advise people to stay away...or be very thorough with inspecting your credit card payments.

Hi, I'm complaining in regards to unauthorized credit card charges since March 2016 to my daughter's debit card. I am extremely frustrated as you have been charging $8.99 a month on my daughter's debit card without my consent for the past 2 years. She had specifically called last year to address this issue and have her account canceled, which we were told...

Scribd unauthorized credit card charges

I'm complaining to whatever this company is for unathorized credit card charges to my 15 yr old sons debit card, without my knowledge or permission. As of Oct 25, 2016 until present you have been charging $8.99 a month for god knows what cause he don't receive anything from you anyway. For every monthly debit (141-[protected]) this number is with the charge. I'm requesting full refund and explanation and cancellation of whatever this is. My email is [protected]@yahoo.com, cell # [protected], I expect to hear from you very soon.

Scribd unauthorised payments taken out of my account

I have received the following message about a subscription payment taken out.
The errors are as follows:
1. I have no recollection of ever having subscribed and have not used scribd.
2. I keep good records of accounts as I am the IT tech officer for 2 companies and a school. I have a document with 67 various logins and passwords for all the accounts I manage, I am fastidious about this - although a mistake is possible.
3. The money has not been taken out of my account, but my wifes, although the email is sent to my address.
4. The account used to deduct money has not been used online for more than 5 years.
Please provide a full refund and cancel any accounts in our name. I have cancelled the recurring payment in paypal.

Scribd membership

I unsubscribed from your website over 3 months ago, I received a cancellation email and I thought I no longer had a membership. I just discovered that the membership was still active and my membership payment has continued to go through. Due to this occurring such a while ago, the email has deleted itself. When checking you can see that I have been inactive on the account.
I would like a refund for this occurrence as I was told something that did not occur. I would like to be fully reimbursed for the previous three months of payments that I did not realise were happening.

Scribd unnecessary deductions in my account

I have notices from Scridb that you just take money from my account at your own time. This is unacceptable and unfair in the part of your institution. In one month, you deducted more than 3 times from my account. I stupidly knew that you are taking twice for just an account i owe, but now deducting more than that is a no no situation. I will block your Scridb facility from my account when that happen next. This is America, stop playing that game. I am very organized and composed in what i am doing. If this happens
one more time, Then it is over.

Scribd premium subscription

They provided a free trial, then silently debited money from my card for months without ever notifying me. Finally, when I submitted a support request - they just blocked the support account altogether.

Kind of: "Complaining? Go complain somewhere else, we don't give a damn anyway".

Not even a reply explaining why they charge people without notices, or some kind of compensation (at least for the las month). Just closing the support account without dropping a word.

Scribd cancelled but still being charged since 9/25/16.

Hello,
My username is Tee Peer and I cancelled your service 9/25/16. Since then, I have been charged $8.99 monthly despite my cancellation. Please cancel my service immediately, and issue a refund from October 2016 through May 2017. I have contacted my bank about this issue and would appreciate your quick resolution of this issue. I would also expect a cancellation number as confirmation that my service has now been cancelled.

Scribd wasn't able to cancel my account and they also stole my money

I decided to cancel my Scribd account when they started to charge extra money from me. I tried to resolve the matter and spoke with their customer support, they refused to refund me but promised to cancel my account. One month later I received another charge from Scribd and found out that my account was still there. Contacted them again and cancelled it for the second time.
Last month I found out that it was not cancelled. How did that happen? That's simple - they charged me. I do not recommend Scribd, they are cheaters!
I had to cancel my card and I hope now they'll leave me alone. Beware!

Scribd charged unknowingly for free trial

Dear sir/madam,

I wish to know why did scribd.com charged my visa credit card for the followings:

1. 9 april 2017 for usd 8.99
2. 9 march 2017 for usd 8.99

I declare that I did not purchase any products online from you. And if I have given you my confidential financial info for your advertised "free" trial, then there is no reason for you charge my visa credit card by "hiding" such billing terms in a mass of words. This is preying, scam and unethical business practice.

Please contact me at [protected]@gmail.com,
Mobile +[protected].

Failing which I will file a formal and legal complaint to the relevant authorities.

My visa credit card is [protected].

Scribd scribd forcing your company into my private space, requesting my personal info without any request whatsoever from my side

5th February 2017. I was on a South African Government web page, and SCRibd; were 'dropping in' with comments, including requests for passwords, info. Initially, I thought it was part of the Government page. Then I decided I was not comfortable, I was battling to remove the offending requesting words, eventually I was closing and reopening the web page. However, they/you now have information, obtained illegally and unethically, (obtained by drop ins on another hosts page); I searched for somewhere other than Scribd to report this too and ended up on https://www.sitejabber.com/online-business-review#scribd.com_(Scribd) The very first (top of the page) flashing 'box' was to write a review/complaint on Scribd! However, I did not feel comfortable, it was the same logo etc as Scribd) - I deleted, it disappeared, and a genuine (?) sitejabber box shot up. I realized it was THE dreaded SCRIBD. I am not comfortable with SCRibd.
I do not know what your business is, I did not request to know, I do not want any connection with your company whatsoever. Please confirm all/any information regard myself has been removed/deleted. I do not know your category.

Scribd regarding scribd free trial subscription

Hi,

On 16th November, I went to Scribd site, and I was offered a free trial subscription for one month. I was asked to put my VISA card details, and it was also assured that nothing will be deducted from my card during the Trial period, provided I cancel the subscription anytime before the expiry of the trial period. Based on the commitment I decided to provide my card details to avail the free subscription. As soon as I submitted the request my card got charged with the full subscription money for one month.

I really feel like got cheated here. If you are charging from the very first month itself, and there is no trial period, then why are you making false commitment to your customers.

I went to the Scribd customer support site and lodged a complaint also. My support ticket number is #1240182. They were supposed to get back with a written revert within one working day.

But I did not receive any revert from their side. This is purely cheating and absolutely unethical from a reputed site like Scribd.

I hope based on this complaint I get my money back.

Regards,
Anirban Sengupta

Scribd uses an incredibly underhanded tactic to make you think you've cancelled you're subscription. Once you click "End Membership"...guess what it doesn't end there. It'll take you to a page that looks suspiciously like your account home page...except the difference is...that the SECOND (yes, it's not going to finish with this one) "End Membership" button is sneakily placed at the lowest right corner of the page (you gotta scroll down). Finally the last page which AGAIN makes you think you've cancelled has this "complete cancellation" button in some unimportant unbolded and GREEN coloured font (yay! green means good so you won't pay attention and keep the membership).

THIS IS INCREDIBLY UNDERHANDED PAGE DESIGN. IT WORKS (YAY FOR SCRIBD) TO DUPE THEIR SUBSCRIBERS SO I'M NEVER USING SCRIDB AGAIN.

Scribd scribd has become a joke!

I'm officially done with Scribd. I really loved it and used it for about a year, but then they placed all those crazy limits and lost lots of customers. And I am one of them. Their new rules and platform are ridiculous! I had bought a subscription based on unlimited books and now I can get only 3 books per month! So basically I wasted my money on nothing. Sorry, Scribd, but I'm leaving.

Scribd new platform is terrible!

I started using Scribd in 2015 and was very satisfied. I signed up, paid some money and was able to read unlimited books! I spent weeks reading books on Scribd and was very happy. But then they decided to make some changes and set up a new platform. And starting from 2016 that terrible monthly limit on books appeared. Then I decided to cancel my subscription and found out that after you cancel your account it is impossible to read the books you paid for! Don't use this service. Scribd was really great in the past, but once the new platform was set up it turned into a real nightmare.
