Our MD at SISO in Bangalore has suddenly behaving like a Hitler, he has made mandatory log in time as 8:00 AM in the morning, how can we have BF, and he also has informed the cafeteria staff to stop providing BF at 8:15 AM, if we come late half day salary will be cut, this is really disgusting and we still cant believe whether we are in Independent India, he is from Korea and gives the answer that Indians are lazy so he is behaving like this, who the hell is he to criticize Indians, I urge the labor ministry to take serious action against this Hitler MD and provide relief to poor workers(slaves) like us.

Really? I was just stumbled upon this thread and was going through all the postings from Koreans and Indians. First, I am dismayed that tiny cease-fire zone, South Korea, is oozing out racial comments and superiority hegemony on Indians. Second, some Indians are retaliating back badly on South Koreans. It seems something have gone terribly bad with in the Korean and Indian management of this company. It is appearing that, there is some kind of "Colonial Ruling" going on inside of this company, possibly. Bad thing to note.

Finally, the last post apparently from someone inside management of this company. But, as an outsider, it is hard to believe that, Korean management in South Korea will take any stern action on other Korean management in this company in India. Does it really happen? Questionable indeed. It is also appearing that, Indian management under local Korean heads in this company in India, is also acting as colonial agents, as is the case in Indian history. Because, it was the job of Indian management in this company in India to take up the issues with Korean management firmly and strictly. It seems, they did not do that job. After all, Koreans are their supreme boss too.

Very Interesting!

All fellow Indians, please spread this thread all over India through your friends. Inform all your friends, what these tiny Koreans, American colony, are thinking about us.

Please create awareness. Bloody, these mongolians (Koreans) are doing business here in India, we are buying their products and these yellow mongolians are shifting our earned money to their country.

So Please STOP buying their products, there are a lot of alternatives. PLEASE BUY OUR INDIAN-INDUSTRY PRODUCTS.

This is the only way we all can shake their pride and insult to us. Just STOP buying their Korean products (LG, Samsung, Huyndai etc.) here. That is the only very strong lesion we can teach these mongols.

Then, sure, they will come to our feet.

Dear friends,

Please please please ... For god sake Avoid all kinds of Mental concoctions on this topic. Understand that we are all educated souls.Every living beings are made in correct propotions by the Lord. There is no right to profile /discriminate others.Doing so only uncover our lack of moral values. If you all are in india, understand that you all have a higher goal in life . Please work for it and make family members happy, with what we get.

These kinds of discussions can affect many young engineers life as it will be propogated to the whole world. Be it for marriage or self respect with respect to engineers from other organisations.

As a new Engineer to Samsung, I am traumatised by the kinda of no professional work culture happening. I know for one thing that, as long as Company have money to waste like this, the company will run .When the company takes a "U" turn in business, then only changes/catastrophie can happen .

Some changes ( wish list) to deliver the company to a "respectable" one is

(1) Make Each Manager and employees, deliver quality products from each group. He should be measured based on what he delivered.

(2) Stay focussed on specific area and take ownership of complete product design .end to end

(3) Convert Managers to either People Managers or project administrators. No technical involvement. They should be trained to replace the "upper" Boss' chair or move to laterals ... Not to micro-manage the people below and show the credibility with ego only ( if they want to be a leader)

(4) Senior Technical members should be accountable for the work, roadmap and build for future. Any chance of non accountable result will impact the performance of him/her

(5) Stop all the "body shopping business" to Korea /other regions ASAP. Build Engineers for future

(6) Automate things where ever appropriate and reduce the dependency of people, where ever it is needed. Lots of cost saving is possible, due to redundancy

One should always see americans how they do business. Because they mean business and they value people who deliver and make right changes to business.

*** My apologies for hurting anyone, if it felt so********

Hello all Indian workers of our the KOREAN Company, Samsung:- there is no places for any change there because SISO and SDS is a cost to us in Korea, we want testing, debugging jobs done by indian workers at a low cost. so SISO and SDS is is our back office. However, it should no problem in India because, we the Koreans paying enough even to low end test engineers in SISO/SDS a lot in india and, with that money indian engineers and familys are byuing TV, fridge and cars for first time in life. we know india is underdeveloped country and government, people are overlooked and every indian suffer of low-quality-of-life generally. but, we are developed and rich country, KOREA and, we try to give good salary to indian workers too. Our salsry is higher than other companies in india. so, indians should be happy and first, improve their quality-of-life. Surely, we can not give job to all billion indians and pay to improve their quality-of-life. That is the job of indian government to improve life of indians (health/food/education/house/poverty/etc.). But we are sending money to give to Samsung SEVA group, and this group is doing charity for poor indian kids and women in india, we the KOREANS are liberal paying this money to indians for charity for their poor indians. IS not it great? Every indian must remember this too and should not complain. Last, it is our KOREAN management and our KOREAN company and all indian worker must follow and obey it. That is final. Our KOREAN MD is there to admin SISO/SDS and you all indians follow him. That will be good.

Well said Choi, and, we the developed KOREANS can not teach little indians about high-technology and modern engineering, so these indians talk English and worship cows today. No technology in country, only cows and banana. Yes, indians are cars and refrigarator first time in their life. A new technology to them. In last 10 years we the KOREANS taught indians a lot of high-technology and engineering projects, look at Samsung, POSCO, river-dam in Guajararat, so many others. indians must bow to KOREANS, a developed country.

Stop you colonized Indians. British, your masters, colonized you for 300 years, before Mughals colonized you for 1500 years. Now you are colonized by Americans, god knows for how long? May be for ever. Is it not true that every indians love all American, every indian girls want to marry American, every indian love eating KFC in bangalore and Starbuch coffee and McDonald burger.

Listen world-people who is reading this thread, listen about internal situation of india:

Last year when I went Bangalore, there was 3 white men (one from USA and 2 from Austria) in SISO and, we went to cafeteria in SISO for food. Two of those white men involved in talking with indian women engineers in cafeteria of SISO. After 5 days, 2 of my friends told me that they went to bed with those indian women engineers and then, those indian women were asking them to marry desparately. Because, they want to leave india at any cost for better life and after bed-sharing, they will rejected by indian society, but, they love white western men very much, mainly from USA and Europe. All things happened within 15 days of our stay.

People outside donot know this situation in india. It is like latin america.

Hello everybody, please stop abusing each other. You know that this public blogging can cause NO harm to the SISO brand and that, Samsung has capitalized a large market share in India and profit-transfers from India to South Korea. Hence, practically, with such mutual abuses, you are wasting your time and effort as well as creating a bad taste. Samsung will remain Samsung in Indian market for very long time as profit-making leader leader using monopoly (apart from Nokia). Indian handset makers are systematically eliminated from Indian market and we know how to maintain monopoly in India.

So, if you have something to say to management about your problems, then, use proper channel and feedback mechanism through HR or direct communication. That will be entertained within the company policy.

Please note that, according to the SISO management policy, all Indians must follow what MD says and what HQ says from Korea. This is the strict instruction for all in SISO from senior-managers to engineers and system administration. You cannot contradict our policy enforcement in SISO in India. If you donot like it, then you are advised to put your resignation without creating disturbances within the organization.

No violation of instructions from HQ-Korea by anybody in SISO will be tolerated and enforcement of management policies are made at appropriate scale.

@H.D.Kim

For your kind info, Indian mobile maker Micromax thrown LG out of the top 3 mobile makers in India.
Infact it might be Number 2 behind Nokia if Samsung's suspected fake reporting is true.

And if you think that abuses wont affect samsung, call your MD and get clarifications.
I will post the mail from your Korean MD where he begged employees to come before 8.15 ;)
Now if samsung offers job for 10 peoples, only 1 is joining, you can understand how good a name samsung got
if you have got brains or balls.

PS:-
Samsung dont follow EU auditing standard like Nokia, if samsung says that they sold 1million mobiles,
there is a high probability that samsung is painting with lies ( But you dumb [censor] koreans will believe whatever management says )..

Anyway we Indians wont follow the cheap tactics which are followed by Koreans like one given below in the link,

Dear All,
I am a SISO old timer and have seen SISO change over the years. I see a lot of fighting between Koreans and Indians in this thread. But, I seriously doubt whether most of the people who have written as Koreans are really Koreans. They are in my opinion Indians pretending to be Koreans to instigate other SISO employees to make anti Korean comments. I suspect this because most of the Korean employees are not
very good in English and at least not aware of Indian history which some of the commentators have commented on in this thread. Having said there are at least some people from senior management who have commented in this thread. We can make it out from the tone and tenor of their comment.

I would like to first say that the whole discussion is not focusing on the real problem faced by this company. I would like to focus on those problems and then proceed further.

(i) SISO had GWP(Great Workplace rating) of around 35%, whereas other similarly placed MNC’s have 80% + score.

(ii) SISO attrition rates are very high as of now.In fact the HR department has the highest attrition rate. There is no succession planning in the HR department. Every year the head HR is changing. HR to employee ratio is also very small.

(iii) SISO has been operational for the last 14-15 years but is not able to add value like other companies like Intel, Broadcom, TI, NXP etc. Intel, TI, Broadcom in India are at a much higher level in the value chain. They are able to develop complete products which SISO can’t even think of.SISO is still in the lower end of the value chain during testing activities.

(iv) Freshers from top tier colleges are not ready to join SISO. In fact we were insulted by Delhi IIT placement officer a few years back saying that we don’t have what it takes to recruit talented Btechs from IIT’s .
(v) SISO brand name has been spoilt in the Indian Semiconductor Industry. Because of which offer rejection has been very high. So, Mr Kim’s contention that SISO brand name is good is totally wrong. SISO and Samsung are different brand names. SISO brand as an employer is very bad. Samsung brand as a consumer electronics giant is good. Both these brands are different. Mr Kim please don’t confuse the two.

The question of the credibility and honesty of the MD is at stake.I totally agree with Mr Kim when he says that we should follow MD’s orders. We are already doing that. But, the main problem is that his credibility and honesty is at stake because of which SISO employees are not ready to accept him.MD had promised a PSI(Project Incentive) of 3-10 months of salary from the current year. But, the PSI which was given was from 1-1.5 months of salary.
The hike of the fixed salary which was given was miniscule (below 5% for most employees) as the PSI was supposed to be increased. But the MD cheated us and gave the same PSI as last year. So, all SISO employees are at a loss because of the MD. The MD should hang his face in shame for being dishonest.

(vi) Poor GWP will result in very high attrition which will in turn affect the quality of deliverables and Customer rating. Till now because of recession the attrition was low. So, what will SISO do now?

And to the Indian guys in this thread: Don’t confuse bad management with Koreans. MD is a bad leader, it has nothing to do with his being a Korean.MD Quit SISO.You have already done incalculable harm to SISO.

I would like to point to some dishonest practices being committed in this company.

(i) Nitin D.C is calling up some employees in SISO and asking them to resign. Who the bloody is Nitin D.C? .Who is he to call up employees and ask them to resign?

(ii) People are being asked to resign from SISO and told to join SDC. This is to shiphon profits from Samsung Electronics which is holding company of SISO to SDC which is a different company. This is being done in collusion with some collaborators from HQ who have stake in SDC. This is being done in the name of outsourcing.

The bad predicament of SISO has been also due to the Indian guys in the SISO management especially Mr Amy and Mr Dipesh Shah. Mr Amy had recently been made the head of the Employee engagement function. But, the only thing he had to say in the meeting was that it is the MD’s decision. He couldn’t provide a single solution to the employee’s problem. They are now running an employee satisfaction survey. This is actually being done to rig the main GWP survey which will happen in a month’s time. This survey will be used to put pressure on managers which have poor score. Those managers in turn will pressurize team members to give better scores in the coming GWP survey. They have said that the survey is anonymous. How truthful they are is anyone’s guess.
Mr Dipesh Shah is a better fit to be the head of a BPO call centre. He has made SISO over the years more or less into a BPO with low value work. He prides in making people work for hours in the name of "time to market". He is oblivious of the fact that even Nokia does better than Samsung in mobiles with better work practices. He is one of the main culprits for the poor work culture of SISO. For him Growth should happen at ANY COST. He has complete disregard for modern HR practices and as a V.P of SISO he has adversely affected the work culture of SISO over the years. Though these days he pretends to be in disagreement with the MD.

This thread is appearing to be very interesting indeed. I can see two combating zones and it is clear that SISO-India management systems are equally bad on Korean side and Indian side too. From an European perspective (I had visited SISO for onsite job for 10 days in Bangalore and, I have seen Samsung-Suwon Korea too), let me address a few other matters regarding the confrontations going on here:

1. Samsung/SISO management system:

In Korea: strictly hierarchical system, which creates opaque communication, misunderstanding and slow progress of work as well as unnecessary difficulties. But, in general Koreans are very sincere, highly methodical and responsible in nature or behaviour.

In India: Not overtly or visibly hierarchical but, inherently a mixture of feudal management and chaos in work. On top management, people behave as feudal kings of India treating other Indian engineers below as slaves. A chaos in decision making, process, working habits can be seen at all levels of Indian management. But, Indians appear to be inventive and inquisitive in nature, more than Koreans.

Comparison: Koreans are authoritative/feudal managers and, very well coordinated among themselves and well managed in THEIR SYSTEM. Indian managers are semi-feudal in nature/behaviour to the other fellow Indian engineers and, at all level there is chaos going on in thought, work and behaviour having lack of coordination/cooperation among fellow Indians.

2. Problem solving approaches and success (in company, in society, in politics):

In Korea: As Koreans are very well organized, coordinated and methodical, hence, they solve a previously known problem very easily. Koreans are good strategists and well executors. However, they apply trial-error method in case of unknown problems.

In India: Chaos again in any cases. Often, simple solutions are ignored and simple problem becomes complex day by day. People in India, although capable, have less focus on solving a problem in easiest and convenient way. Rather, many contradictions arrise and often conflicting approaches make a problem complex and unsolvable. So, the Indian engineers often try to take APPROXIMATE solution on temporary basis in any kind of problems.

Comparison: So, Koreans have made rapid economic, educational and technlogical improvements in very short time. India is slogging hard to achieve its full potential and benefits in economic, technological and sociological improvements. In India growth is sectorial/regional, but, in Korea growth is pervasive.

3. Colonialism:

In Korea: It was a colony of Japan for short time but, now it is a kind of American virtual-colony.
In India: It was a colony of multiple powers for a very very very long time and, now the colonized sentiments (colonial effects) are visible in Indian society, education, films, food and, culture.

Comparison (example): In Korean society, American is welcome most, and then, Europeans are OK with a smile. In Indian society, any White (Caucasian) is treated as kings (Raj) and, Indians are treated as second class citizens by other Indians (i.e. colonial effect).

4. Development and quality-of-life:

In Korea: Development and quality of life improvements of common Korean citizens are made at tremendous scale by the government of Korea. Korean government followed a systematic, methodical, sympathetic and visionary process for the growth of their country by improving quality-of-life (public health care+public education+public roads+public transport+pollution control etc.). Korea have included into the elite club of DEVELOPED NATIONS within 30 years. The credit goes to Korean government and Korean people (overt patriots).

In India: Quality-of-life is very very bad and growth is sectorial/regional in India. Majority of Indians (including low end public officers) are living a DEVELOPING COUNTRY lifestyle in terms of public health care quality (tremendous mortality), shaky/dusty public transport system (although country is tropical and hot), bad/dirty roads, low quality of potable water, wide-spread infectious diseases. The reason is inefficiency of government OR the apathy of government to the public need. It appears that in India, public government system is corrupt and ignore public quality-of-life. So, India is still a DEVELOPING COUNTRY (i.e. underdeveloped) even after having potentials. Somehow, potentials are not utilized by Indians at all levels to improve their country at al corner. So, income distribution is highly skewed and there are few riches, more middle-class and majority poors. Quality-of-live is bad in India.

5. Sense of social equality:

In Korea: It is homogeneous country and there is sense of equality in educational systems, financial system and social system. Income disparity in the society of Korea is very narrow.

In India: Inequality is everywhere, in education, funding, society, economy etc etc. I was informed that in educational institutions/universities in India follow a superior/inferior status. It was strange to me because, we cannot think that University of Gothenburg is superior and Univ. of Lille is inferior. But, that is the case in India. Like wise, income disparity in the society of India is very wide. Many people live on Indian streets and few people drive Volvo cars on roads in India. Very strange to observe. Public service system is corrupted and low quality (low quality of service). According to my experience, in India, there is no concept of quality-of-service in society and people donot question/catch-hold government to improve quality-of-live of common Indians.

Dear Erric, thank you very much for telling the painful realities of India. You are absolutely true. Indian government does NOT bother about common people in India. Here, it is your own money you shall have to spend on health-emergency in private hospitals, which is very very very expensive. Common Indians cannot go there, they die in government hospitals. Government hospitals are just HELL in India. Same is in case of education. Good schools are few in India and they charge a hell. Common people of India just live like dogs.

British rule was better, possibly. Here, Indian government suck public and their own sons/daughters live abroad. The same is in Pakistan, look at the flood situation and government inaction there. Indian businessmen live king's life in India, because they have enormous money and good CONTACTS, but common Indians are treated like DOGS (no good health care, no good food everyday, no good transport, no good house etc.).

We just want to migrate abroad and change our citizenchip. But very few can do it, because, even after M.E./M.Tech. degree, it is difficult to find a good job at developed countries and stay there for life. All most all Indians want to live a better life and want to migrate abroad at any cost.

Everybody wants good life for him and for the family.

@ Mr Ellison,

I appreciate your views regarding the comparative analysis of Korean and Indian cultures. But, I think you are attributing too much to the culture traits behind Korea's economic success. Korea is a much smaller country with fewer people compared to India. The main reason behind South Korea’s economic success has been the right choice of macro economic model (free market economy) followed by the country since the 70’s.This is in contrast to North Korea, which follows communism. In India economic liberalization started only in the 90’s and we are making rapid progress. There is no need to be pessimistic. Culture is definitely important but not as much as you seem to think.

As regards SISO’s work culture, t has nothing to do with Indian culture. It has everything to do with the incompetency of the senior managers including the MD. After all companies like Google, Microsoft, TI and even SEIL Noida are doing wonderful work in India with Indian employees and managers. Their GWP scores are also very good. How are they doing it? It is always easy to attribute leadership failure to Korean and Indian culture. But does it solve any purpose?

It is a fact that the current MD has failed to take the whole management team with him. He has failed to convince the management team regarding his vision. This may be because of mis-communication or incompetent/uncommitted managers or his impractical thinking. It might also be because of his lack of cultural sensitivity on his part as he has not worked in international locations before. My question is since he has failed to deliver and has in fact worsened the situation during his tenure. Why is he not been recalled from HQ? I request HQ to commission a external management consultancy like KPMG/EY/Hewett to do a study of SISO and then offer recommendations. The situation is very grave indeed.

And Guys who are worried about waking up early to come to office at 8.30.Let me tell you this policy is just the symptom of a much deeper malaise. The deeper malaise is the incompetency of the senior management team including the MD.

I 100% agree. Same thing exists for SISC. People here seems incompetent as well as unprofessional. I dont know why & how private organization can bear such type of craps. But there is no use of discussing it here, just leave the hell. Spread the culture among indians that Samsung is not a worth place to live in. In office, director smokes cigarettes with his korean guests. People sitting around his room have to do passive smoking. I am not sure what Labour Law Enforcement Agencies of India are doing? Such kind of people must be kicked off and be sued by Govt. ...Look Koreans what you are doing and what role your HR is playing :)

Anybody do anything in a banana republic country. Is not it? Look what your own countrymen saying (Mr. Suresh N. S.), look at his sufferings your own countrymen. What is your gov. doing...nothing... because, that is it. Common Indians are living like DOGS. Are not you better living with our money in India? You eating good food, riding AC cars in India with your salary (our money)...common Indians cannot dream it. So, why complain for small things? We are paying you good money. So you are better than common Indians. You should feel happy.

Thank you Mr. Erric S., you are very right. Our Korean gov. is our own people, so Korea is developed, common Koreans are have better life here. We have clean roads, AC Limo buses, sophisticated gov. hospitals, gov. health insurance for all, good food for all, good schools for all, good (world ranking universities) in our Korea. So, we live better life here. It is our Korea, our people, our gov.

@ Cheon
Nobody is disputing your fact India is still develpoing. But, I think you are trying to understand too much with your limited intelligence.India has a chequered history with many ups and downs.1/6 of humanity reside in India
with multiple racial origins. There are multiple languages and dialects. So, there
is a lot of complexity in the problems.Lot of improvements are happening and will continue to happen since the last 20 years.
You yourself have said that poor Indians are like 'DOGS'.Shame on you.You might be from a develpoed country but you as a person is totally backward and predujiced in thinking.

You have said that SISO is paying Indians and we should keep quite.Let me remind you SISO is not your father's company you mother [censor]er.It is a public limited company with many investors. It pays employees for the work they do.They dont pay for free.

Indians, first tell your own government of your country to improve life of common Indians. Nobody in world respect you now, poor illiterate corrupt India. You shout at your gov. first, before shouting at our MD, SISO.

SISO is paying you more than your need in India, you Indians are cheap labour whole world know. But our SISO paying you more than your worth and economy. So, you must be silent and work harder as MD is saying. You are living good life in poor illiterate corrupt India with high salary we pay. We pay more than your worth Indians.

Your first task is to shout at your own government for developing your country. You must not shout at our MD, you must obey his orders given to you poor illitearte corrupt Indians. Indians have no respect in world now.

@Cheon M

India is a developing country, globalization started in 1990's and not before.
Probably in another 20 years it might be a better country than you.

But unlike Korea ( south, the American colony ) we dont need a county like
America to save our [censor].
Remember if US go out of South korea, it will be [censor]ed by another dog eating country from its North ;).
Dont forgot till 1990's south koreans were eating Dogs to survive,
( please remember when koreans meet they wish themselves by saying somethign like
" have you taken food", it tells you how much you were lacked food and other facilities )..
Also still North Koreans eat human flesh if their family members die, these things never happen for food in India ).
So shiut your mouth and try to save your ethnic north koreans first and come here later.

But Korea begged from US and got money and technology from US and Japan.
Without the gifted technology from US and some stolen technology from US and Japan,
south koreans will still be eating dogs.
Dumb koreans still dont know how to put a satellite in space by their own which we did it in 1970's,
because US didnt give their technology.

I worked in siso for 4 years and i know from where are they copy.
They copied from qualcomm, DNW etc etc..
So shut up koreans and do your business here else close your factory in India and go out.

Hey guys

I am a proud Indian working for Samsung, Korea. I see that this thread had become chaotic with so much profanities.
Let me first mention that many of the Korean names in this thread is fake. How do i know that? Well.. I have been living in Korea for over 3 years now and am aware of the Korean naming system to know that atleast two of the following names are 100% fake: YoungLee, Ki-Hoe Lin. Especially Ki-Hoe Lin.. Korean have the naming structure "Family name" followed by "Own Name".. Ki or Lin must be a family name (depending on the order) but there is NO ONE in Korea with either of the family names.. I am sure that if I try to go through the whole thread, there would be more fake names...

I really think that some guys with lots of time in their hands are trying to spice things up by impersonations..

Why dont you guys go through proper channels to address this issue rather than creating a fight between India and Korea?

@all slave koreans

Please go through all the posts from the beginning of the thread.
There are lots of questions unanswered by the slave Koreans .
You answer these questions first and then i will answer your queries about India.

PS:-
If you still want answers about India, Think why North Korans still take only 2 meals a day
or why they ate human flesh.
Pretty easy to guess, North Korea didnt beg money from US and they are eating stones now,
if without Americas money and technology you guys will still eating the same human flesh and dogs by now.
