HotelGuides.com review: Pre-paid room booking

On may 11 I reserved a room for june 21. I was charged 340 dollars after taxes for a single night in a double queen room. Three days later I was informed that that was not a standard charge. When I inquired about it four days after the initial charge, I was never told a reason, only that the charge was none refundable. After a few inquiries that were not answered I did receive a confirmation that would be getting a "partial" refund. Ten work days later I received a 68 dollar refund. So I ended up still paying 272 dollars on a 90 dollar after taxes room. I never questioned the no refunds policy when it came to the room. I did not want to cancel the room. I only wanted to be reimbursed the difference for the unusual charge for a standard room. I reserved the room a month and a half in advance and was highly disappointed with what happened.
