I bought a 2.45 gold ring about 2.45 grams from PureGold at Abu Dhabi International Airport, I trusted that at an airport there would not be daytime robbery but PureGold has disappointed me. The price I was charged was almost 3 times more than the market price!
Today price for 2.45 grams (22K) is around 1250 AED but they charged me about 2645 AED, which is highly disappointing that making charges higher than gold value

I purchased a 4-gram 24K Gold Coin (SKU: 24CN4GM43) from the Pure Gold Jewellers branch inside the Abu Dhabi Duty Free Terminal. I paid a total of AED 4,399.00.
While the staff was polite during the quick airport transaction, I realized upon checking the actual market rates that the markup here is incredibly high. The daily market rate for 24K gold in the UAE was roughly AED 497 per gram (making the raw gold value around AED 1,988). The store effectively charged me over AED 1,100 per gram for a standard bullion investment coin—more than double the standard market value.
When trying to look into a return, I was told there is a steep 30% deduction fee. While I understand airport locations have higher operational overhead, a 120% markup on a standard gold coin is excessive for regular retail consumers.
I have reached out to Pure Gold's Customer Care team directly to see if we can resolve this matter gently and fairly with a waiver of the return penalty. I am hopeful their management will step in to assist. At the time of purchase, the regulated retail market rate for 24K gold in the UAE was approximately AED 497 per gram, meaning the actual metal value of the coin was roughly AED 1,988. The merchant charged me an effective rate of AED 1,100 per gram—representing an extreme, non-transparent markup of over 120% for standard investment bullion.
Upon contacting the retailer for a resolution, they admitted in writing that they price standard bullion items at arbitrary fixed retail premiums rather than actual gold weights. They have refused to waive a punitive 30% restocking fee (amounting to an AED 1,320 penalty) for a return. I request the Department’s intervention to mediate a full refund of AED 4,399.00 upon returning the coin, or a partial refund of the inflated markup, as this pricing structure constitutes unfair and misleading trade practice toward transit passengers
