Is your phone number on the Do Not Call list (www.donotcall.gov)? If not, add it. If these people call back after a certain amount of time (72 hours I think), you can report them to the FCC. Also, if you tell them to take you off their list and they continue to call, you can technically sue them. I doubt that it's worth it to try to DNC list first ;)
File a complaint with the FCC (http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm). I was looking around Google and it seems like this is pretty common. Filing the complaint is rather time-consuming, but the calls should stop. Good luck! :o)
Yeah, good luck with that. I had the same thing happen - I subscribed to "Us Weekly" and was sent "Every Day with Rachael Ray" about three months later. I raised a big stink and was sent "Glamour" as well. Not even close. Whatever. They're a bunch of idiots and I find solace in knowing that karma will come back and kick them in the ### :o)
I just feel bad for people who sell magazines door-to-door for a reputable organization because I'll never buy one again.
I've run in to this company paying Verizon bills for the company I work for. It stinks that they're giving you such a run around. When I call, I just say "whoever authorized this charge is not allowed to do so" and they cancel the service and credit money back. Hopefully things go better!
Their website states that if you don't cancel your membership within 7 days, you'll be charged the $14.95 per month. Yeah, maybe "free"creditreport.com is a bit of a stretch since they will eventually charge you, but as long as you cancel in the allotted window, it IS free.
I forget exactly how you do it, but I know there's a way if you use online e-tools. There's something in "my account" or whatever they call it. They make it incredibly difficult to find, but it's possible.
The website clearly says that you have to cancel within 7 days or you'll start getting charges. I don't know how people sign up for anything "free" without reading up on them first.
Uh, is it just me or is this one of the most hypocritical things I've read on this site? "In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, IRRELEVANT or off-topic messages in an online community" Yes, we all know what a troll is. Unless you can tell me what posting a completely IRRELEVANT and long-winded explanation of a troll has to do with the point of this community, I'll have to go with what No Thanks seems to be implying.
If you've told them to stop calling and the debt they're referring to is not yours, you can actually sue them. Tell them that the next time they call - I bet they'll stop :o)
Yeah, these people typically call and say things like "Hey you should try (insert service here). We're running a promotion now where you can have it for free for x days but then we'll start to charge you." Of course, they don't say it clearly like that but it's how they're able to charge you for these services. If you aren't on the do not call list, sign up and report these businesses who call you.
I absolutely despise Comcast. I wish I could avoid them but, as you said, they are a monopoly. Unfortunately, I live in an apartment complex and in order to get another service (DirecTV, Dish Network, etc.), I would have to pay a $250 security deposit to the complex. The way I calculated it, the money I would save by switching wouldn't even come close to that. But if I could get away, I would in a heartbeat. There's no reason basic digital cable and internet should cost $100 a month.
I pay my company's Verizon bill. When these charges show up, I call the provided number and speak to a similar person, who usually identifies himself as "Pete Jones" or something ridiculous like that. I dispute the charges and the money is refunded. Since I'm not at the locations being billed, I never know if the charges have actually been authorized, but I tell them they haven't. I never have an issue.
I'm just curious if it's a phishing e-mail. If you've never used the site, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a link to match.com or paypal where they'll try to get your account number and similar things. I love clicking on things like that and putting in false information :o)
You can also try Spybot Search & Destroy. That has found some things my virus scan hasn't. Regardless, I don't think you should type any sensitive information into your computer until you're sure everything is ok. Good luck!
When I rule the world, I'm going to ban all commercials that get on my nerves. This will be one of the first, immediately following any associated with Comcast.
THANK YOU. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has common sense these days.
How has FB shown poor customer service? I've never had to interact with their CSRs and am curious what others have gone through to need to speak with them.
Did you try calling them? It's always possible that a letter never arrived, so they just assumed you weren't paying. I have a lot of issues and annoyances with Verizon, but there are very few problems I haven't been able to solve with their CSRs when I call. (I work in accounting and we have several different accounts with Verizon.)
If you recently attempted to get a free credit report, this is the fee that came from not canceling within the allotted number of days.
"probationaryl " I actually LOLed
I don't know where to complain to, but just mark them as spam and gmail won't show them in your inbox anymore.
I got swindled by a similar company. Only once have I received what could laughingly be considered a response. I've somehow gotten a second magazine subscription out of it (neither of which is what I asked for), so I find solace in that. I'll also never again sign up with these companies, which makes me sad because I know some legitimate groups use this tactic.
I used to work as a receptionist for a company in the restaurant industry and fielded complaints from customers. I can assure you that no owner (or anyone high up in the company) will ever call. Our company is much smaller than Little Caesar's and complaints to us were funneled down to the district manager in charge of the restaurant who got the complaint. As far as I know, they always returned calls. But just be prepared not to hear back from any executive.
If you signed up online (most likely freecreditreport.com) for a free credit report, you did authorize it. Their commercials on tv say "Offer applies with enrollment in Triple Advantage." Also, their website says that you will be charged monthly if you don't cancel your enrollment within 7 days. Considering their terms are fairly well spelled out, I doubt you'll be able to get any sort of refund. Just call/e-mail and cancel and the charges will stop.
I hope you responded and sent loads of fake information ;]
