I work for a Marriott franchisee. Cancellation polices are spelled out very clearly when a reservation is made and in the confirmation e-mail you receive (especially if you qualify for a special rate). Go back and read that e-mail and I guarantee you'll find whatever policy prevented them from canceling your reservation.
Just call the number your phone bill says to call and you'll get the money credited back. They'll probably tell you that they called asking someone to do a free trial and to call back to cancel within x number of days - but that you're charged if you don't call back. Regardless, just tell them you want the charges to be removed and they'll do it.
Sorry to hear you got duped but you're not the only one. I ordered a different magazine and instead got the one you ordered. The company has been completely incompetent and unwilling to fix what they did wrong. Hopefully you have better luck than I do - and you don't get a bill later down the road.
Anything that tells you to wire, transfer, or pay money to claim a "prize" you won but didn't sign up for is a scam. When are people going to learn this?
First of all, if you have to ask yourself if something's a scam, it probably is.
Second, the horrible grammar should be another tip off.
Just ignore this hoax.
I had a similar experience. I ordered US Magazine in September and in December started receiving Every Day with Rachael Ray. Not sure how that happened. I contacted the company multiple times and have only once heard back from them. Later, I even received a bill for the RR magazine. I called the company and, honestly, I feel sorry for the man who answered because he got the brunt of all of my anger from this experience. He told me they wouldn't have initiated the bill unless I'd authorized it. He gave me the date of the authorization, which happened to be my birthday - the only people I spoke to on the phone that day were family members or friends. What a ###ing joke. Never again will I trust these ridiculous companies who come to my door.
While I have no idea why you were charged so much money, this is clearly spelled out on the left side of the website:
"IMPORTANT INFORMATION
When you order your free report here, you will begin your free trial membership in Triple AdvantageSM Credit Monitoring. If you don't cancel your membership within the 7-day trial period**, you will be billed $14.95 for each month that you continue your membership."
All you have to do is cancel your membership within that 7 day window and you'll never see a charge.
Maybe if people actually read fine print and did research before signing up for something, there would be fewer complaints.
Look on the front of your bill. Is this charge listed under "other providers"? If it is, look at the first page where the charge appears; there should be a phone number provided. If you call that number to dispute the charge, say that it is not an authorized charge and you want the service removed. They almost always do it. It'll take a billing cycle or two and you might see another charge, but they credit back the money plus your state's sales tax.
If it DOESN'T appear as "other provider" just call Verizon. Tell them you didn't authorize the charge. The few times I've had to contact Verizon directly instead of these scam third party companies (I pay bills for a restaurant and hotel corporate office), they have been quite helpful.
Seriously? It's an AD. The whole point is to get you to click on it and buy stuff. I guarantee if you refresh that page either the people and IQs will change or it will be a different ad. Come on.
The commercial says (in print and in a voiceover) that "This offer applies with enrollment in triple advantage." Also, on the main page of the website, it says:
"When you order your free report here, you will begin your free trial membership in Triple AdvantageSM Credit Monitoring. If you don't cancel your membership within the 7-day trial period**, you will be billed $14.95 for each month that you continue your membership."
Since this is all spelled out, it is highly unlikely that you'll get any money back.
Read the comment before you.
I went to www.ivorybrites.com and looked up the terms and conditions. It's spelled out RIGHT THERE:
"Trial Terms :
The trial offer is designed to display the quality and effectiveness of the IvoryBrites product. This gives you the opportunity to try this remarkable program for FREE (just pay shipping and handling) so you can come to a decision for yourself if this is the right product for you.
Upon ordering, you agree to pay the shipping and handling fees for the free trial shipment. If you enjoy the product do nothing and 15 days from your free trial purchase date and every 30 days thereafter you will be sent another fresh 30 day supply of IvoryBrites and the form of payment that you used to order the trial will be billed the Member's Only price of $79.99 plus $8.99 shipping and handling for a total of $88.97 for the monthly value-shipment package.
15 DAY TRIAL PERIOD INCLUDES SHIPPING AND TRANSIT TIME "
Yeah, they'll probably take 10 days to ship everything but that's what you should expect.
If people would just do their research, this probably wouldn't happen. I've looked up sites like ivorybrites.com and freecreditreport.com and, lo and behold, the terms are CLEARLY spelled out. I highly doubt any site could operate and not list terms and conditions.
Seriously, do your research. If you're not going to, you have no room to ### about having $80 taken out of your account. Open your eyes, for crying out loud.

You say you didn't order anything, but a few sentences before, you say you ordered the free trial.

All you had to do was cancel in that 7 day trial period and you wouldn't have incurred any charges. I'll be surprised if you're issued any sort of refund, given that their terms are clearly spelled out and in no way hidden under a mask of links.
Next time, do your research so you don't feel you were robbed of money.
The reason you're not getting your refund is because the terms and conditions are spelled out on their website:
"Trial Terms :

Before you fall prey to a "free trial" scan next time, make sure to read the terms and conditions.
Funny enough, I don't work for them; I'm just able to properly navigate a website...but thanks for the compliments on my grammAr.
I do apologize if my comments are offensive because that's certainly not my intent. I do feel for people who have been scammed because it has happened to all of us. I actually stumbled upon this site when I was worried about being scammed. I just can't understand signing up for a "free trial" of a product without doing some research on the company. The point of my comments was to urge people to do the research before jumping at a company's bait. So many of the people whose comments I've read say that companies like Ivory Brite and freecreditreport.com are stealing their money when, in fact, they are operating in a completely legal way.
Again, I'm sorry if I upset or offended you and hope you don't get "had" again.
Wow. What a horrible experience - sorry you had to go through that. Hopefully karma will come back and get 'em good ;]
I see charges from this company all the time on Verizon bills at my office. I've usually been able to get them to cancel the service and credit the previous charges just by calling. I can't remember if they've refunded ALL money, but I think they did. Companies like this know they're a sham so they're typically quick to get you to shut up. Good luck!
Yeah, don't do that. It's a scam. The check they sent you will bounce and you'll be out that money they're asking for. It's usually recommended that you report scams like this to the police.
Looks like they're all telemarketers. Just add your number(s) to the do not call list (www.donotcall.gov) and report any numbers that call after you have been on the list for a couple of days. That seems to work for most people - including me, thank goodness :o)
The website clearly says:
"When you order your free report here, you will begin your free trial membership in Triple AdvantageSM Credit Monitoring. If you don't cancel your membership within the 7-day trial period**, you will be billed $14.95 for each month that you continue your membership"
All you have to do is cancel within that 7 day period and you won't be charged. Yeah, they'll take your credit card number right off the bat in case you don't cancel, but they don't charge you if you cancel in time. I do this once a year and have never once had an issue with them.
The reason credit card companies won't refund your money is because freecreditreport.com is the opposite of deceptive and fraudulent; their terms are shown on the main page.
