For years I have been shopping on line with confidence using my PayPal buying "shield" Yesterday I filled a dispute with paypal requesting my money back for a dvd I had ordered through www.ecrater. /jfsales51 What I recieved was a bootleg pirated copy. Paypal "investigated and closed" my claim within 90 min of me filling it. When I called Paypal I was informed that of the thousands and thousands of sites that use the PayPal option the only one I am protected one is Ebay. Unless I never recieve the item. So according to Paypal I did recieve it but who cares that it is a homemade illegal dvd... I lose. The more research I did the more I felt like a fool using PayPal. Even if you use your credit card to pay with paypal you waive your rights. So America please use caution when using paypal becuase you are NOT protected at all even for illegal activites and scams. I have closed my account and will now only use my charge charge so that I can have at least some recourse. Check this out paypalsucks.com it will really open your eyes beforethe holiday shopping season.

Yes, sometimes you may run into these technical problems, if you only rely on a single payment processor. What I'd do instead, I will use an open source cart where I can deploy different payment modules so if there is a problem with one gateway, I can simply disable it.

The other thing you could do, do not ship the items and issue a full refund to the customer. If the customer doesn't get all his money back, he will file for a dispute with his cc against the processor company. In other words, let them sort it out. And in the meantime contact your client and arrange to sent the items using a different payment method.

Although your question is back from 08 what I posted may help others if they face a similar situation.

I get dispute transaction emails from Paypal with charges for this same company. My credit card has never been charged. Just keep getting the stupid emails. I check my paypal account and they never show up there either.

As a precaution - I removed my credit card info from my Paypal account info. I rarely use it anyway - I needed to have to purchase 1 item from an antiques dealer website years ago. Have not used it to buy anything since.

I forward the emails on to Spoof@paypal.com
