Introduction:
As a certified accountant, I deal with financial compliance, transparency, and risk management every day. Trust is at the core of what I do – and I expect the same from the platforms I use to manage and receive payments.
That’s why I was shocked when PayPal, a company trusted by millions, suspended my account without warning and froze my funds for 180 days after receiving a single legitimate payment for commissioned artwork.
What followed was a surreal journey:
No clear explanation for the suspension
A generic response from customer service
Advice to “just make a new PayPal account with a different email”
Even one response in Turkish, which I had to translate using AI tools to understand
I was not flagged for fraud, nor did I violate any policy I was made aware of. The decision was “final,” and my only option was to wait 6 months — with no guarantee I’d even get my money back.
This is not just a personal inconvenience. This is systemic.
A quick search shows thousands of similar cases — artists, freelancers, small business owners — all locked out of their own earnings, often without cause, recourse, or even basic courtesy.
If a financial platform can:
Freeze your money
Give no clear reason
Offer no appeal process
And recommend you start over under a new identity...
…what kind of compliance is that?
What kind of protection does that offer to honest users?
As a financial professional, I find this unacceptable.
If this is how PayPal treats professionals who rely on their service, I can only imagine how vulnerable users are being handled. I cannot in good conscience continue to recommend PayPal to clients or peers until they seriously address these practices.
I will be filing a complaint with the relevant financial authorities, and I urge others who’ve faced similar treatment to do the same. This is not just bad customer service — it borders on financial misconduct.
To PayPal: fix this. And fast.
This may be a misunderstanding. If so, I expect a prompt resolution. But the way your system currently operates creates damage — reputational, emotional, and financial — to the very people who trust you with their livelihood.
Recommendation: Be warned about this company
