I joined OKCupid last week. Within a day I had met 3 different men who all seemed nice and genuine! One said he was a Major General in the Army, 51 years old, sent me some really nice pictures, and said he would be retiring in 2 months. I felt suspicious at this dating game, so I googled "major generals of the Army". Much to my surprise, I found several photos of the man I had met (different name of course). The general is actually retired and 67 years old! I found the real retired general on another search and let him know what was going on, and gave him the email address being used by an imposter.
The 2nd contact did not exist where he told me he did. I was told by him to text him at a number which turned out to be a landline. He said he was 51 and was very nice to chat with. There was a man by his name who lived in his hometown but he is 32. (I am 51).
The last man who contacted me was not only the nicest guy, but also the scariest of all. I did a whole criminal background check on him and he has over 10 felonies and at least 3 of those are class x! A lot of theft, and domestic battery! (and he lives very close to me!). How he is not in prison, I don't know!
If anyone uses this site, they need to #1. don't give out your phone #!!! # 2. do your homework and spend a little money to do a background check and #3. get the hell OFF of this FREE site. As they say, if it sounds too good. it probably is!

This guy is on the Okcupid.com website as Alesmark or Aleski123. Very smooth talker. He has a real good scam going. He was heading to Istanbul, Turkey on a business trip. Has a letter to back up an "oil contract" he was awarded from Shell Oil UK. Sent me copies of his airline ticket. Started with problems as soon as he got there. All kinds of sob stories. Having to pay lawyers, fines, hotel bill, got thrown in jail and needed bond money, there was a mob guy that he owed money to. He needed money to get back home. Didn't have money to eat. And finally was held at the Anaturk Airport by Immigration for overstaying his VISA. Scammed $7, 000.00 from me. He had four accomplices. An interpreter named Oscar Arebun, his secretary Gladys Idemudia, a kid named Gift and a guy from the "bank". They had a whole network going on. Complete with internet websites from the airlines to the bank. Fake bank account. Claiming to have an offshore bank account. So, if you've seen this guy. Beware. He hides behind being "a man of God". That's how I was scammed. I think he works for an organization of individual who are all scammers. Because in the beginning he claimed that he called me from work and I could hear lots of commotion like you'd hear at a call center.

Yes for men it is even worse - for every man with fake profile there are 100 women using pictures NOT of themselves but porn stars and models such as Adrienne Manning, Lia 19 and many others(ofcourse the person actually doing the scamming could be a male posing as female - one has no way of knowing). Ofcourse okcupit is not the only and probably not the biggest offender of this. For example Zoosk, match.com, and Facebook has so many females who put a profile with pic's of porn stars and models claiming them to be pictures of themselves. Now it would be very easy for match and facebook and others to use the automatic picture scanner :http://www.google.com/imghp?hl=en&tab=wi to get a readout which will come up with the celebrity associated with the picture. For example I have heard that the owner/founder of facebook M.Zuckenberg or some like that is worth over 10 million dollars so it is likely the company is worth a million or more and they could very easily implement this type of check along with match.com, Zoosk and others ! Also all these scammer girls always end up asking you for money - i have been taken for a total of about $64, 000 from them.
