Read full review of NYC Housing Authority [NYCHA]they should find a reliable contractors for the maintenance.
i have a work ticket for 2 years to paint the bathroom, after 2 years of waiting, bathroom has already developed mold and peeling paints. these contractors showed up and everyone of them told us they have to do the whole apartment or most parts of the apartment otherwise, they wont take the job. even though the paint in the other areas are totally fine, they still insist to paint them all. letting them paint the whole apartment is not a problem, but our home is stuffed with tons of things. they need to paint every room, every wall, not just spot painting. so we need to remove all of our things to where? and we have to smell fume for next few days? r u serious? we just want to get the bathroom fixed and seems like these mexican contractors are taking advantage the shix out of the nycha. leaving tenants to deal with these issues which i find it ridiculous to deal with. they come up unannounced 3 times already, telling us the same shix. paint it all or nothing at all. i want to stop paying rent until they fix this problem.
flooding in apartment/workers to no avail and rude office attendants
I am writting to complain about the unprofessional way this development handles emergencies such as floods in apartments and everything pertaining to maintenance. I have been on the run around for over 3 years regarding leaks and damages in my apartment. Currently I am experiencing flooding where water is leaking outside into the hallways and my carpets are soaked my floors are soaked. I have put what seems to be hundreds of tickets in this system and people come around almost in a jokenly fashion just to look tell me someone will come to fix and leave i have been given the run around hundreds of times out of 20 workers their is only one serious one who knows what he is doing yet is not available to complete the job. Queensbridge office workers are of no assistance and the rudeness is out of hand. Why waiste all this money on having workers hanging around doing nothing when the buildings are falling apart.
Some one not NYCHA needs to check on QUEENSBRIDGE HOUSES.
miscalculating of rent
Basically at the start of this year like always you report your income to housing, they, which i don't know how, they printed on the lease they send that I'm make over $30 thousand which I work for a security company that i really make $14560 they sort of corrected it and out it down to about $15500 and the rent from$669 to $394. I should have complained right away but just paid what the sort of corrected amount. the $669 should have been removed but they still want me to pay the $669 plus $394 and won't listen to me when i mention it to the in my office. and had to go for a one shot deal to have part of it paid and pay the one shot deal back which i shouldn't have to. All I make is $14560 and my rent should be $394 not to also pay for there mistake the would not correct.
living conditions
It is disheartening how un-important NYCHA residents are to the rest of the real estate world. The greatest importance seems to be money. But where is all of the money going? Residents are exposed to urine filled elevators, elevator buttons with spit on them, and floors & stairwells that are filled with garbage and tobacco fill from cigars used by marijuana users. The quality of life for NYCHA residents is extremely low. When asked what can be done about it, the answer is "I don't know, you can call [some random number]". NYCHA is prepared to take residents to court for $20.00 but holds no accountability for the conditions of the buildings. Residents are not considered notable or taken seriously. NYCHA residents hold a stigma across the city, and likely the state, of being a low income group that cannot be saved. What New Yorkers don't know is that there are many working families that are struggling with high rents just like the rest of the city. Though income based, imagine paying $1, 500.00 for a 2 bedroom while riding an elevator filled with urine everyday and dealing with other residents who loiter and blast music through the night time hours. I certainly wish I could post the pictures but I am having issues with the technology. I am willing to send the photos or post them elsewhere. NYCHA residents need to stand together and demand change to the quality of life in every neighbnorhood.
mold, no water
My name is cristina I am a resident at wagner projects I have to young boys one is 12 the other is 8 months. I have had an on going mold issue for over a year in my bathroom. In results to this my oldest is coming down with asthma. I have made several complaints to houseing and submitted several tickets. They send workers to just wipe the mold clean but the mold still there I have informed them not to send pp just to clean it this is not solving the problem. There is always a problem with water so far this month we have had no water for so far 2days. Last 3weeks we have had no hot water on and off. And heat is given when its hot not cold outside... Please help my boys are getting sick!
tenants are exposed to unhealthy and unsafe conditions
We have been without functioning exhaust vents in our windowless bathrooms for over a year, this is causing mold, mildew, roof asbestos and bacterial growth to stagnate in the premises causing prevalent respiratory and skin ailments to our family members resulting in our visits to the hospital Emergency room due to lack of ventilation in our apartment. Numerous maintenance requests have gone unaddressed. In conversation with building manager Mark Pappas, he has indicated that the replacement equipment has been purchased and that he is waiting on a contractor to install the ventilation system, this has been the explanation for the past 3 months. Now to add insult to injury, management has "sealed" all trash chutes and residents are expected to bring garbage curbside which can and will most probably contribute to the escalation of vermin and pestilence in our neighborhood. The lack of follow up and apathy being demonstrated by NYCHA in many instances is the proven scourge to our communities. I request for the repairs to the ventilation to be completed before the "equipment disappears"; and for waste disposal chutes to be repaired promptly to avoid situations like "legionnaires disease" and other pestilent forms to develop in our communities. A respectfully concerned resident, A. Arroyo, tel #[protected].
refusal of transfer
I live in a small studio apartment for the pass 8 years in Smith Houses in Manhattan, I have brought letters for my Mental health issues and physical health issues and I am being given the run around, I am requesting a one bedroom apartment and I am being refused.there are 9 dogs barking day and night on my floor, drugs being sold 24/7 kids playing basketball in the hallway and really effecting me I've had 3 arguments with the neighbor, lady upstairs banging on my floor and housing is playing games with me
bushwick hyland houses - 811 flushing avenue brooklyn new york 11206
I live in the above mentioned address. For the past three nights, when I come home from work, the lights in front of my building are out. There are no lights at all. Currently there is roof repair being doing and there is a scaffold, there are supposed to be lights under the scaffold, there aren't any. I have called three times and each time nothing has been resolved. I am also in need of a paint job for the last five years. I have mold in my bathroom and no one will call me back or even make an attempt to inform me when this situation will be resolved. There is no maintenance in this building. The garbage isn't taken out. The floors aren't mopped and everyday I have to walk down because the elevator conveniently doesn't stop on my floor, I live on a high floor. Not to mention the front door hasn't had a lock on it in almost 2 years. I don't understand what the tenant patrol does, because they can't be reporting all these issues. I would like to know what am I supposed to do when I come home late and its pitch black outside? My safety is an issue and no one seems to care but if my rent isn't paid on time, that's an issue if major importance. What exactly am I paying for?
not paying rent for a section 8 tenant...
I am a landlord who owns a 3-family house in the bronx and had a section 8 tenant. The tenant was terrible and I tried to remove him. Nycha was of no help. I tried to terminate his lease but the housing court would not evict him. Under the eviction review unit's direction I even returned the rent for the month after I terminated his lease, but then nycha stopped all his rent subsidies to me even though the court ended up dismissing the case and the tenant stayed another 3 months. I had to endure 3 months of no rent from nycha while this horrible tenant continued to stay in my apartment. Now nycha keeps rejecting my requests to pay the back rent because they won't apply common sense to this - they want yet more documentation from me and my now prior tenant. He signed a letter stating he continuously lived there since june, submitted utility bills and I kept submitting requests to nych to pay me the contracted rent. He is now gone and nycha still refuses to pay his back rent. Nycha is not landlord friendly and I will never rent to a nycha tenant again after this.

air pollution/mold and mildew
My mother has been living in nycha for the past 20 years. Since her moving in, there has been an ongoing problem with raw sewage backing up into the building and creating a foul odor that premeats everything. This is turn creates mold and mildew. All of which my mother has been breathing in for the past 20 years. She has now been diagnosed with copd, which is life threatening at her age of 80. We have been going through this with nycha for 20 years, they never actually repair the problem, they just bandage it. We have contacted all the political officers in my mothers district to n o avail. They are either incapable or they refer us back to nycha. Please assist us in this matter as my mother's health is at risk. This is an environmental issue...
mailboxes locked & no keys to tenants
New york city housing-louis armstrong houses 785 marcy avenue, brooklyn, ny 11216. Nycha have failed to provide the tenants the keys to the mailboxes that ups fixed almost a month ago. For 2 weeks the main lock was broken, them ups fixed and now nycha want us to wait 3 months to get the keys, like the other buildings waited also. This is ridiculouss. Ups said that nycha have the keys, but they want us to wait I don't know why because the mailboxes come with the keys. Nycha is very bad. Our building have mold, mildew, leaks, is cracked from roof to bottom and they don't give a damn about us. They have scalffording for 10 years but they never have fixed anything.
The tenants in 284, 286, 298, 300, 302 Lexington Avenue, Bklyn, NY, all A apartments, EVERYDAY and Night blast music, argue, drinking, kids playing basketball, screaming all night long. The Property Manager does NOTHING about it. Drugs are sold out of those buildings. The backyard is used ALL NIGHT LONG as a hangout for sales, smoking and loud music. They are the most irogant, disrespectful, nasty group of people. The neighborhood is changing and a group of us are going to the Community Board, 1 Police Plaza and Public Advocates Offices for our meetings with evidence of 311 complaints, photos and videos.

I am writing to complain for my daughter and grandchildren. They just moved out of the shelter into a building run by nycha. First, they have had to get their stove fixed twice. They have only lived there for two weeks. The biggest problem they are having is no heat. They have called every hour trying to get someone to fix it. One maintenance person told them that the basement was flooded so there was nothing they could do to fix it. This has been going on since the temperature has gotten cold. Now it is supposed to feel like below zero. Their are young children in the apartment and one of them has asthma. What happens when all of these children get sick? If you go on 311 website, they direct you to housing. Housing is not doing anything. She need help in getting nycha to do their job and fix the heat before one of the children get sick.
