- This was initially my mistake for failing to cash my Metlife annuity check before 90 days expired.
- Metlife notified me to cash my annuity check before the 90 expiration date during Jun 13, 2026.
- Jun 18, 2026 I had not received my Jun 2026 annuity check (normally arrives the 15-16 every month).
- Jun 19, 2026 my Bank refused to cash my 90+ day annuity check.
- Jun 23, 2026 called Metlife Customer Support and was advised the annuity check stopped; they could not confirm I was alive. But they agreed to start payment and also replace the 90 day old annuity check.
- Note: Hawaii.Gov requires all insurance agencies to actively reach out to customers before cancelling/stopping annuity checks. Metlife never reached out after the Jun 13, 2026 notice. They never called, txt, mailed to confirm I was alive/dead.
- July 3, 2026 received my June 2026 annuity check, but I did not receive the 90 day replacement check.
- July 6, 2026 called Metlife Customer Support and was informed there was a stop on the replacement check, but there was no explanation...nor had anyone in Metlife called/txt/mailed me to inform me the replacement check was cancelled. The agreed to release a new check this week.
Well that's my saga and had i not held one check past 90 days, this would not be an issue. However, I am annoyed, Metlife never reached out to confirm I was still breathing before stopping my annuity checks. The same applied to the 90 replacement check. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to submit a complaint to the Hawaii.Gov DCCA or the FTC; they would simply point the finger at me...the little old guy.
Recommendation: I would never recommend Metlife and I was somewhat misled by my TSP (another long story).
