Lousy practice and deadly diagnosis
I had a nice experience with our puppy at this place so when our other dog got sick, I wanted to make an appointment with them too. She was not eating or playing while she was unusually vomiting and pooping around the house. The earliest date was three weeks later by which time our dog was better. But I told the staff that she was very sick for several...

My uncle was trying to do the right thing and get his dog spayed and wanted to have it done at a vet clinic not a spay and neuter clinic due to the horror stories who had heard. He received a voucher through Pinal County and found out MAH participated in this program. My uncle had asked my mom if she would take his dog in since he would not be able to due to schedule conflicts w/ work and she agreed. So on the morning of 3/911she went in and the front desk lady took the dog and explained that since this was a special program they do not do blood work and that was the end of the conversation. My uncle came in that evening and picked her up and took her home.
Later that night she seemed realy out of it so he called the emergency clinic that was on Marciopa Animal Hospitals answering service and they said it all sounded normal. His 12 yr old son stayed w/ her through the night and early Thursday morning felt her take a deep breath and that was it she had passed away. The next morning the ver clinic called to check on her and he said she died and wanted to speak to the vet to try and get some answers of why his dog is now dead. I have worked as a vet tech myself for a lot of years and recommend to have them check her abdomen for internal bleeding. My mom had called and they advised to open her abdomen it would be $285 and this was not something my uncle could afford so him and his son put there beloved pet to rest.
Finally on 3/14/11 a vet not even the one who performed the surgery called my uncle and she advised that because it was the voucher program there was no monitoring done and oh yea her blood was not clotting well. WHAT! I think that it important to know so that definently leads to believe she may have died to internal bleeding.
The front staff tried to say they advised my uncle of this when he picked her up which was never discussed.
I had contacted this vet office myself pretending I had a voucher and wanted to know how the process worked. The woman I spoke with advised that it covers a basic spay which is $110 and pets need to have there shots, no bloodwork is done so can make them high risk, and they use a different anesthetic. I asked what the difference was and she said regular spay they use propaflo and iso gas (which is the safest way if anyone did not know) but for the voucher program they use dorm, dex and propaflo (this is a nasty cocktail that puts them out and is not as safe) I asked if they monitor the animals and she assured me they do. When I explained really why I was calling and that my uncles dog died and he was told by the vet they are not monitored she became very defensive. She tried to say that we should take responsibility and she explained that because no bloodwork she was high risk and could die. I advised if this was explained then they would have elected to do the bloodwork. I also advised that I did not understand why they would not open her abdomen to check for internal bleeding which the only thing she said was no vet would ever do that for no money, I advised that she was wrong and any moral vet would especially if they did not believe it was there error. Earlier in the call I had mentioned my experience as a vet tech so she stated you know as a vet tech that bloodwork is important and will not deny that but I have assisted in thousands of spau & neuters and never lost one even ones that did not have bloodwork. I asked her that if I am wrong correct me but if the vet did not suture the dog correctly she could have had internal bleeding and that will kill her. She started to say well but I said yes or no she said yes but if your uncle would have done the bloodwork then this probably wouldn't have happened. Later on Monday my uncle and mom went in, my mom picked up her pets records (obviously they would never ever go back there) and my uncle picked up his and also had a meeting w/ the vet. In the end they never had any compassion and kept putting the blame on my poor uncle.

POOR SERVICE
I came to this facility with my Toy American Eskimo in pain and not able to walk. I came in at 440pm. They close at 530 pm I told the girl at the front my dog was in pain and couldnt walk. She was talking to a girl about a lost dog that someone brought in. I sat there then after 10 minutes I asked itf there was someone there who could help me. I saw peopel in the back room sweeping up 50 minutes prior to closing. these people are clock watchers not ANIMAL CARE PEOPLE. REAL ANIMAL CARE PEOPLE show interest in a dog in pain or some kind of urgency. the receptionist had an attitude ND THE FIRST WORDS OUT OF HER MOUTH WERE.."we close at 520" I said Yes, I know it is only 20 to 5. thats almost an hour from now. Is someone going to look at my dog. SHE DIDNT LIKE THAT. Went in the back and closed the door and came back out and said..well based on what you said she may need an xray. Unfortuantely it takes our machine 30-45 minutes to warm up. I was like OK...its only 20 to 5. then she said..well we can examine her...I cut her off and said...you just said she needed an xray. Clearly you are more worried about the clock than the animal. She was like..do you want us to look at her. (WHICH IS WHY THE HELL I WAS THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE) They were trying to get me to pay a fee and not do the PROPER EXAMINATION because GOD FORBID they may have to stay there until 531 pm. No one seemed too worried about the animal..just the fact that it takes 30 minutes for an xray machine to "WARM UP" What the hell is that? They wouldnt be prepared for an emergency. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THAT BACKWOODS OPERATION. PATHETIC AT BEST.

OOPS typo on the case # for the for complaint filed on the death of the cat it is 06-67, let me add this is all public knowledge and if you have ever had any issue with this clinic pleas file a complaint by going to www.vetboard.az.gov you can print the forms required and send it in, it is a very throughl process they go thru, actual court hearings are done. Also note you can file complaints against a licensed technician at this site as well. RIP-Rosie 03-11-11
Let me guess the receptionist was Sharon Canady, been there done that with her, she has no business working in that field she is uncaring and as you said a rude! But the clinic she is working at is no place to take you animals anyhow, they are only in it for the money! The vet Dr Schelle killed Rosie in March, RE:RIP: Rosie 3-11-11, we have since filed a complaint with the Arizona Veterinary Medical Examining Board and waiting for the hearing and results of their findings, case # 11-33. What I have found out in the mean time that Dr Schelle was cited for the death of a cat while working at The Pet Hosptial on E Hampton Ave in Mesa, she was on probation for 1 year and had to complete some class's. This entire case can be read @ www.vetboard.az.gov, go to the DIRECTORY, put in dr's name "Lora Schelle", hit RESULTS, click on DETAILS/VIEW, VIEW PDF. Once our case closed I will post it here so everyone can read it. In the mean I urge everyone to take your beloved pets elsewhere, I know it's difficult since there are only 2 clinics in Maricopa, but is the price you pay worth losing your pet! Let me add I used this clinic for my 2 dogs Cissy and Sam for years and was not 100% happy with them, rudness was just what I put up with, I have since been taking my older dog Cissy to Maricopa Wells and they have found things out about her that Dr Schelle did not. I feel they are now is safer caring hands. More to come:)
The receptionist was rude! I have brought one of my pets in at a clinic for an emergency, and was never treated in such a rude, disrespectful way. Even if the facility couldn't accommodate the dog health issues, than they should have recommended an emergency pet hospital they are associated with. The receptionist only concern was getting out on time, not the health and well being of the dog. The receptionist behavior was wrong. The owner was worried and upset about her pet, and the receptionist was a rude ###!~ Why would anyone that didn't love animals work at an animal clinic? You don't make that much money, and the only allure is working with animals. She should have shown some concern for the dog, and in the least asked what the health concerns of the dog were. Just to make the women sit there, is horrid customer service, and rude.
In response to Erin Sadler Look at the name its MARICOPA ANIMAL HOSPITAL "NOT" MARICOPA ANIMAL CLINIC! so what your saying is you need to leave Maricopa to get proper care for a beloved pet. This is the response you can expect from anyone at this SO CALLED HOSPTIAL, when things go wrong they throw the blame on you! RIP Rosie 03/10/11 :(
When you are suffering a serious injury or ailment do you simply walk into your general practioners office or do you go to the emergency room? If your pet is is serious distress do not expect an animal clinic to be able to assist you at the drop of a hat, take your pet to an animal emergency hospital. That is what they are there for.
And you'll find sweeping done at all times of the day at an animal clinic because of hair buildup.
That is so horrible.
I hope your dog will be alright. Let us know.
Yes, I totally agree!
Rude service every time I go- antibiotics after antibiotics with no resolve. Drove to another clinic and Chandler and was given and completely different diagnosis! Maricopa Animal hospital is Horrible and Maricopa killed my cat- I highly recommend driving to Chandler to get to REAL VET!

There should be no CHEAP when it comes to the care of a loved one, he didn't CHOOSE cheap because he wanted to he chose it because he had no choice, HENCE pet needs to be spayed for good health reasons, vet says she will do it with the voucher, owner trust that vet wants to take care of the pet since she honors the voucher. I suggest you visit the www.vetboard.az.gov read case # 06-67 regarding the death of a cat that was in the hands of Dr Lora Schelle while she worked at The Pet Hosptial in Mesa. It is very clear she did not care anymore about this family's pet than she did Rosie and I'm certain there cost for all they went thru was not CHEAP becasue a copy of the case was sent to Lawrence Rosenfeld Attorney at law. So in essence they paid a great deal of money and still got bad care! Oh we have a case filed as well #11-33 once it is finalized you can read it as well as you can publicy acces the case I've reffernced above. RIP Rosie 03-11-11
