I am making a complaint about the poor support I received when trying to use a giffgaff PAYG SIM as a data‑only SIM. We topped up £5 using a voucher and called your help desk for guidance. The adviser, Mohamed, said he would “change it” but gave no explanation about PAYG data charges or the impact of switching to data‑only use.
After inserting the SIM into our Wi‑Fi router for less than two minutes, the entire £5 balance disappeared. We were never warned that PAYG data is charged at a very high rate.
We contacted the help desk several times afterwards and received no help at all. Staff simply repeated that there was “no balance” and offered no explanation, no solution, and no accountability. When we asked to complain, we were told someone would call back — no one did.
This is unacceptable for a new customer. We expect an explanation, a refund of the £5 credit, and confirmation that staff will provide proper guidance in future.
Claimed loss: £ 5.00 lost , due to improper advice from customer service *(+[protected])
Desired outcome: promised call back from manager - nothing so far

Put it in writing to Lyca now. Give the date, Mohamed's name, the voucher top up, and the two minute router use that wiped the £5. Demand a refund, the call recording, and confirmation that staff will explain PAYG data rates before changing anything. Ask for a written deadlock letter if they refuse. If they stall, take that letter to Ofcom and mention the lack of warning about data charges. Keep every chat and reference number.
