I suffer from migraines while not as drastic as cancer or kidney disease or cardiac issues but they can reduce me to a night dwelling cranky person. Migraines affect different people in different ways one drug doesn’t work for all people and some drugs trigger bad reactions in others.
Last summer my neurologist suggested I try Ajovy after infusion treatments were becoming difficult with my old veins. The Ajovy worked. My migraines were reduced, life was actually worth living. Then I changed to Humana after UHC had an issue with our local medical system making the out of network. Humana seemed like a good fit. I knew going in I’d need approval for the Ajovy. My doctor sent in the prescription and it was immediately denied, it wasn’t in the approved medications and they provided a list of drugs to try. My neurologist sent in an appeal and I tried Qulipta, yeah not good. The first week of taking the meds I thought I was a zombie, I was constantly tired, I has having issues with remembering simple words, I couldn’t leave the house alone. As I moved in to the second week the nightmares started, I’m not talking about falling off a building nightmares Im taking I can’t breath, move or call for help, these nightmares went on every night. We tried three times to get approval but they won’t change their minds I need to try another approved med. I’m sorry I’m not a lab animal and I’m not a clinical trial. I’ll just find another or go to the ER if the pain gets to bad. At least they can give me a shot that will help lower the pain level.
