Overcrowded. Staff that spoke Cantonese and expected the world to understand it. Very bad for a major world city. We were halfway through the check in queue and were redirected by a ground staff to another queue, that turns out to be a wrong queue and then we waited in another “expedited” queue that took so long that we spent an hour for the whole ordeal. It was bad direction of human traffic. We didn’t know where to go and staff speaking only Cantonese made the situation worse. We have two young children in tow, and they could have given us a priority queue but they didn’t. They couldn’t even clean up vomit on the floor. My son fell into someone else’s puddle of vomit. NO STAFF even bothered to help! We almost missed the flight. It’s such a horrible ordeal everytime we come to HK airport that I make a solemn oath to never use the airport every time. But this time I had no choice as my flight from Shenzhen airport was cancelled. They should just build a second terminal bearing in mind customer volume.
Recommendation: Avoid at all costs! Shenzhen is a lot better. Less hassle.
