I transited through LHR from South Africa to San Francisco on January 1st, 2026. I had to go through security and had a purchase from Duty Free in South Africa that included 3 bottles of gin. I went through security in terminal 5 at 0809. 1/3 bottles of gin was flagged and removed. My travel partners also went through with the same purchases and lost none of them. Duty Free assured me I would not lose anything in security so long as it remained sealed in the bag they placed it in which it did. This was a precious gift I was bringing home and not only do I not have the gift but also lost the 580 rand I spent on it for a security agent to take it. The manager of security (Hassan) was very kind and informative and recommended I reach out with a complaint. I filed one last week and have had NO RESPONSE at all to it. I would greatly appreciate follow up and reimbursement and I hope you will review the efficacy of your machines when someone with the same 3 bottles went through lane 3 just fine. Thank you for your time and efforts.
