hi i wish to make a complaint regarding the service I received from your newton-le-willows branch on Monday 13th July, I booked my car in for a mot and full service hybrid, Number MJ60 WES after having the car all day I received a call that I needed some additional items, IE front wheel alignment, coolant change, new spark plugs etc I agreed that they should go ahead and complete these extras, I later had tom call the garage to see if the car was ready for collection and was told that it would be next to be looked at this was around 17.15 as they had to wait for the parts to be delivered, I arrived at the garage at 17.45 and went in to see the guys in the office as far i was aware all items had been completed and was handed my MOT certificate by one of the chaps who happened to mention a fault regarding the battery I paid the bill and received my keys got to my car and proceeded home , on my way home a red warning came on the dash regarding a fault indicating the battery, this was not present when i dropped the car off so i assumed there was something wrong with the battery so on reaching home i googled the problem indicated on the dash , which suggested it was an alternator problem.
the next day i was going to work when the battery light went out but then the coolant light came on along with the screen wash light telling me to top up which was confusing seeing has it had just been in for a major service, I assumed the system had not yet reset itself. I was away with work on the Tuesday on arriving back to work i set off for home still with the car telling me to top up coolant/washer , on way home the car suddenly gave a warning that the car was over heating and to stop straight away , I did so and popped the bonnet to be greeted with smoke and a burning smell i took the top of the coolant bottle and it was empty, I removed the cover from the engine to investigate and found that the pipe from the coolant bottle was not connected to the engine and evidence that the fluid was sprayed all over the engine the only fluid I had was some water in the boot so attached the pipe back onto the engine and filled the coolant up with water to get me home. on closer inspection i checked the oil level and that seemed to be ok as it was clear ,however i then looked at the area where the spark plugs are situated and the area was still dirty and the surround of the plugs was also dirty which if they had been changed it would be showing clean? I now have to borrow my partners car to get to work until I can speak to Mercedes to sort out the problem of now having no coolant going through the engine for the last couple days and also for them to check if any damage has been done to the engine due to the lack of attention from your mechanics, I am not saying they cant do the jobs just that on this occasion this could have resulted in a damaged engine on a Mercedes c class hybrid , I would like someone to call me with an explanation, and will be seeking redress from yourselves with any costs incurred by me whilst rectifying the errors along with them checking if the spark plugs were in fact changed along with the other items on your major service list. I would like some redress on this matter as I had the same work done in your Warrington branch without problems, After paying nearly four hundred pounds for a service plus nearly two hundred for extra items I do not expect to have to top my coolant up or my washer bottle for that matter I can be reached on [protected] if no answer leave a message and contact details and i will return the call.
Thank You
Michael Bowes
