i was shopping at giant eagle on north high street in clintonville on june 29th at 1145p.m. and i went to check out and my groceries came to a totoal of 33.24. i told the cashier her name was christy s. that i wanted it for the amount only. when i got home and looked through my reciept i found out that she had printed the check out for 54.24. i that case i should of gotten back 20.00 which i didn't recieve any money at all. the other cashiers i go to ususally show me the amount in which its printed for . she didn't and i didn't think anything about it. i went back to giant eagle and inquired about the check. the office told me that the check was made out for 54.24 and that the cashier wasn't extra on her draw that day.. so i'm thinking that she put the money in her pocket. i know its her word against mine but i consider myself an honest person and would never rip anyone off like that. i make an honest living and work hard for my income. i have never had this happen to me at this store or anywhere else. i spend alot of money at this store over 1100 a month... you can look back at my checks and records to see how much money i spent at this store... but, , , no more i will take my business else where. i had trust in this corperation and to think that giant eagle would hire such employees as to rip there customers off like that just goes to show me giant eagle will hire anyone. i know by writing and complaining on this suitation will not get me no where but i had to you let you know that alot of money was spent in this store and you giant eagle have lost a good customer. sincerly mrs mann

I strongly disagree as well with your complaint. I have been a cashier at Giant Eagle, but I also work in other departments on the front end. If what you said truly happened and there was actually no error on your part, it seems as though the cashier alone is responible. It is not every person behind the cash register at Giant Eagle. The company doesn't hire people with the intention of conning people.. Anybody who truly thinks that is delusional and paranoid. Lastly, I have been reading some other comments pertaining to Giant Eagle on here, and let me just give my input. Right now, Giant Eagle is a good company. They should learn from the mistakes of Big Bear. Continue to treat your employees with class and put customer service first. Your company will excel in customer service if you treat your employees with dignity and respect.

i take offense to some of what you said. I work for giant eagle, and i have spent my fair share behind the register. for you to say that they will hire any one seems to imply that i am some sub=standard individual because i work there. the hiring process requires a lengthy aplication, 2 and sometimes 3 interviews by various personel which include very indepth and challenging questions, a thorough background check, and intense long term training. that being said, there are two sides to every story. first of all it is very easy as a cashier to make mistakes from time to time. it can be mind numbingly monotonous to run a register for 8 hours and if you have a chatty custumer it can be even easier to make a mistake. cashiers should show you the check if they print it for you but, sometimes we forget...we are human. employees and customers alike are under constant surveilance for security purposes, via secret shoppers and security cams that record nearly every square inch of the store. these cams also record the actions of every cashier.these cams are constantly monitored and should there be a question of a cashier's honesty, our loss prevention team will review the tapes of the employee in question specifically. further more, giant eagle has very high expectations of it's employees. at the end of your shift, if your register does not balance out it is recorded, and the cashier must sign for it. this is done regardless of if the drawer is over or under. if this occurrs more than a specified amt. of times that cashier is placed on single cash (meaning no one can use that drawer but her). if it happens again she is terminated. you should also know that the office will truley review the cashier's register immediately if a customer claims to have been short changed, but if the drawer balances out, there is nothing they can do (aside from reviewing the tapes, if they believe they have reason to). You can not expect giant eagle to assume that their employees are thieves and criminals with out having just cause to believe so. would you want to work for a company that did? you have to understand that while most of our customers are terriffic and honest folks, we do get a fair share of individuals who try to cheat the system, who will do, say, and claim anything to get something for nothing. this nasty group of individuals makes it bad for loyal customers like you, but unfortunately, we can't always determine who is honest and who is not. I'd also like to point out that these girls who are running the registers take alot of abuse. they are yelled at, cussed at, called names, they have canned goods thrown at them, and sometimes are just flat out demeaned to the point of teers. they have to put up with alot and get a minimum wage paycheck in return. they are mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters (and lets not leave out the guys), point is, they are real people with real lives and real feelings. so please keep that in mind the next time your mad because a cashier is a little slow, makes a mistake, or doesn't bag your items "correctly" or can't accomidate you. they deserve the same respect that you do when your on the job.

Also, "will not get me no where", is a double negative and is probably why you had the literacy issue when reading the screen to accept the charges, as the correct amount.
