Getaroom Deceptive and misleading hotel booking website

Deceptive third-party site misleads consumers into believing they are booking through the hotel's actual website. The website mimics the hotel website and redirects to their third-party website for booking. Engages in charging massive and exorbitant fees for "Tax Recovery Charges and Service Fees" when booking a hotel room. When attempting to cancel the reservation, the "customer service and reservations" department informs there is a no refund policy. However, when booking online, you have to agree to the cancellation policy, but nowhere does it state that the cancellation policy is a no cancellation policy. If you contact the hotel directly, you are told you could cancel if it had been booked with the hotel directly but as it was booked through the deceptive third-party website you cannot.
I have filed a complaint with the BBB and filed a dispute with my credit card.

Recommendation: AVOID at all costs. Insure you are booking through the actual hotel website

We have been scammed by getaroom.com, after reading the reviews, we noticed, no positive comments whatsoever. Only scamming experiences. We had to change our creditcard due to getaroom.com. Now we are chasing our money to get it back.

Getaroom Scam website

Scam company, do not use

1. Website is set up in a way that makes you believe you are booking through Hilton.

2. Booked and paid for a room, got to the hotel and the room was booked but not paid for. Paid the hotel directly.

3. Few days later I was charged by gettaroom for the same room I had already paid for in person.

4. The charge to the card also makes it look like they are Hilton.

5. Confirmed with Hilton they did not receive payment from them because gettaroom’s credit card was declined.

6. Gettaroom kept my payment and blocked my credit card dispute.

7. Called gettaroom, can’t actually speak with a person, they tell you to call the hotel directly and then hang up on you.

8. They see my negative reviews and contact me, to tell me that they can not issue a refund because I disputed the charge. Literally all they need to do is tell said bank they messed up (or got caught in there scam)

Note- can’t get a hold of them directly, but they will respond to a negative review .

Clearly a scam website.

Recommendation: Stay as far away as you can

Getaroom Getaroom.com Sharks, and Never again

I was Scammed by Getaroom.com Sharks, by entering a search for two nights in holiday Inn that I have visited before, with out any issues, than I had a choice of breakfast one price and another price with breakfast.

I have clicked on the no breakfast, then they ask for my informations, then the bank details.

When I have finished the process, I have found out they have charged me a lot more PLUS Tax charge and fees for £90.

I called and one of their Agent in the name of Van, offered me 17 dollars back, when I refused he then offered me 36 dollars, I said to him, that I have paid with Britsh Pounds, and I want my £90 back or cancel the booking?

It was half an hour from the time I have found out they conned me, he refused, and said I have to pay £180 for cancellation.

I was very upset with his actions, so he hung up on me.

They also took the money out of my bank promptly! ( more signs of a scam)

I have contacted my bank explained everything, and I'm still waiting for an answer.

Please, If anyone have an edviced on how to expose these Sharks, and how to get my money back, please post it.

Getaroom Waiting for refund, difficult to contact their website Guestreservations

I ended up on this site through the official hotel site and was not aware of it until my booking was confirmed. I have now cancelled the reservation within the permitted time for a full refund, and have now received a notice that I will be getting a full refund. However, I cannot find how long it will take to receive the refund into my bank account.

Can you tell me when I will receive my refund? If I receive it promptly I will definitely rate this experience more positively.

Getaroom Room booking

the 26/01/2025 I booked 3 rooms on getaroom.com, the price was €176,25 on their website. When the pop-up window of my bank appeared, I realised I paid €287,97 so €111,72 extra for supposed services fees and too late to cancel payment. I directly asked the refund of this stolen money but they are playing with their cancellation policy and do not respond. I ask the full refund of €287,97 for dishonest practices.

Getaroom Hotel reservation

Made and cancelled a reservation on Jan 9th 2025
the 278.75 in fees is in very small print as is the terms and conditions.
This scam company goes to great lengths to spoof the hotel website appearing to be a reputable site.
Upon receiving the reservation for March 2025 for three days only then did they reveal the entirety of their grift.
100% cancelation fee and no refund.
Hotel (Hampton Inn By Hilton) can't help, AMEX can't help. Got their address and Priceline has recently absorbed them but they are saying it is a done deal. Complete thieves. I'm also checking to see if the class action suit against them is still accepting members.

Getaroom Room booking

I have booked a room with a reservation service at he 1.of January 2025 that led me to the getaroom page. The room fare was a best value fare and turned out to be a high end price fare. Promotion fare for one day was 107 €. I have booked for 2 days, 2nd- 4th of January 2025. That makes about 214 €. With all the fees and taxes getaroom charged me at the very end of my booking 336€. With booking.com directly the fare would have been 224€ including all the fees and taxes. I asked here at the motel and they told us that the reservation was done by booking.com and they will charge them about 224 €. Who is going to get the difference? Probably you? I think that is not fair way to treat customers. These fees are unacceptable and made me very angry. The Hotline ervice was very nasty.Never again wizh getaroom.com.

Getaroom Deceptive booking website and scam on huge tax recovery charges & service fees

My family booked a twin-bed room in "Capri By Fraser, Changi City / Singapore" under my name (reservation confirmation# R4905990369) through the Getaroom website which they thought they were booking directly with the hotel's website. The website embedded hotel names on the URL trying to deceive customers that they were booking with the hotel itself.

Besides, when we received the reservation confirmation letter, we found that the "Resort Fees" and the "Tax Recovery Charges & Service Fees," which totaled US$491.79‬, were not disclosed during booking and these amounts are way too high and unreasonable.

Our room prices for four nights are US$767.69, and the so-called "Resort Fees" and the "Tax Recovery Charges & Service Fees" combined are US$491.79‬. It's over half of the room prices! This is unacceptable!

Besides, when my family made the booking, it also listed "extra person fees". They booked a twin-bed room with 2 adults, why would they be charged with "extra person"?

We have also tried to book the same type of room through the hotel's official website, and it turns out the "Taxes and Fees" only totaled US$180.16, which is far lower than the amount booked via Getaroom.

We want to cancel the reservation and request a refund asap!

Getaroom Days Inn has no connection to this company

Thought I was reserving a room for night at Days Inn from my phone on March 12, 2024 but when I got to hotel, they had no record of the reservation or payment I had made! Also, I was charged for 2 people to stay, but it was only me, a much lesser charge at $89. I had to submit my credit card for charges at Days Inn since they had no clue who had received payment, then discovered a $137.36 charge from this site on my Discover activity besides the "true" Days Inn hotel charge. The hotel has no idea who this company is! You are wrongfully representing hotel reservations and I need a refund!

Getaroom Refund and Customer Service

We booked a room through what seemed to be the hotel website. Once we clicked book we realized that was not the case because they charged more than what was advertised. After involving the actual hotel themselves and all of the "partners" involved -which was additionally a total nightmare, we were told we were going to be refunded the charge we had on our account. That was over 7 days ago. Everytime we call or email, IF there is a response it says we will get back to you within "24-48hrs" which doesnt happen or please give us 7 business days". If we can get someone on the phone, they act like they have no idea what we are talking about. Even though, we have a case complaint that was created by them on the day this happened. I do not know what else to do other than get an attorney involved as this charge is very large. HORRIBLE COMPANY. DO NOT BOOK THROUGH THEM!

Getaroom Getatrip risked our lives at 10 below on a trip to yellowstone - don't book with them

On 12/9 I booked a trip with Getaroom for a trip to Yellowstone. The agent told me that I could drive into Yellowstone and park within 5 minute walk of Old Faithful. We asked her many questions and specifically this parking one multiple times, as it would be below zero the day of our arrival and Yellowstone in the winter is very remote. She confirmed that parking was at the hotel. I booked based on her info. I than called Yellowstone to rent skis while there and the person on the phone started laughing and freaking out. Yellowstone is closed to personal vehicles, should we have attempted the trip it could have led to extensive fines and or risked our lives if we would have gotten stuck on the roads at -10 below. I immediately called Getaroom to cancel the reservation (within 45 minutes of booking). They apologized for the bad information and said the cancellation would take up to a week to show up on our card. Well the cancellation never showed up. I called again. Still no cancellation. I would advise NOT booking with this online site. They do not care about your trip or even to give you the best information. Thank goodness I checked on this before heading out to a closed National Park with my children. We very well could have died by using Getaroom and their advice.

Getaroom Hotel Booking

I booked through unintentionally through getaroom.com. Their website deceptively looked like I was booking directly through the hotel. I see from looking at online reviews of getaroom that other consumers have had this issue as well. They also charged over $800 in "Tax Recovery Charges & Service" without an adequate explanation for these costs. I ended up staying an extra night in the hotel and when I booked directly through the hotel, the rate was almost $90 lower a night. I have contacted their support email multiple times looking for further information and received no reply. They also overcharged me by approximately $100 on top of the already inflated total, to which I have also received no response.

Desired outcome: At least a 50% refund of the "Tax Recovery Charges & Service"

I searched for the Peabody Hotel and clicked on the site that appeared to be this hotel. I entered my information and clicked book the room. When the receipt popped up on my screen, I noticed it was this company. I called them immediately to advise them to cancel this transaction. They told me I would have to pay a cancelation "penalty" of $1268.50. Needless to say, while I was speaking to my card credit company they posted the charge from the Peabody Hotel! Not from getaroom... I contacted them again and Ben agreed to waive the penalty charges which are double the normal room fee and provided a cancelation notice on Nov.3. The hotel agreed to flag the reservation and waive any charges. The charge posted on Dec 16! On Jan. 3, I posted a complaint with the BBB. This company wrote that I was confused (thanks to their deceitful ad) but they would make a full refund in 3 to 5 days. Of course, they have never issued a refund for the excessive charges. I have never received a receipt via email or any other notice from this ridiculous company. Stay away! I have documentation of the full refund. I cannot load it here. This company has my full complaint registered with the BBB in Dallas. They have promised a full refund for months. This matter is going to need legal counsel since they received $1268.50 for absolutely nothing in less than 10 minutes despite attempts to cancel the transaction after learning it was not who they pretended to be. They are theives and criminal action should be sought.

This was NOT resolved. This company agreed to make a full refund to me, they stated to the BBB that they would make a full refund in 3 to 5 days. However, it was not refunded. Stay away! It is a shame that there are no criminal charges associated with this company but we are looking into such. Good luck.

Getaroom Hotel booking r4639399769

Fraudulent excessive charges and fraudulent currency invoicing (invoiced AUD and charged USD) both undisclosed

We made a hotel booking. Ramada by Wyndham in Scarborough Perth WA

My wife cannot remember the website through which she started but she was finally redirected to this obviously fraudulent website in the process: getaroom.com.

She made a booking for 3 days and made an online payment for AU$981.17 using a credit card

Two frauds have occurred:

1. We were charged an extra undisclosed AU$337.59 which did not appear anywhere in the transaction process but was then present on the invoice sent to us.

2. The whole amount was then charged in USD rather than AUD despite the invoice being clearly in AUD. The abviously we were then also charged $68.08 international transaction fee!

We contacted the hotel and they have actually booked the reservation. The hotel however only has the AU$981.17.

I can understand that some of these booking companies charge a “booking fee/tax” but the excessive additional AU$337.59 were not mentioned anywhere in the transaction process. These undisclosed fees are illegal.

Charging USD rather than AUD is obvious fraud especially if the invoice and every part of the transaction is in AUD.

We have been unable to contact anyone at the booking company despite multiple attempts. Their phone numbers go nowhere (classic scammer playbook).

I've cancelled my credit card under advice from the bank and have started a fraudulent dispute investigation through my bank.

We contacted them via email. Response is that beacuse company is based in US they charge US dollars. This is nonsense, The online payment and their receipt sated Australian Dollars!

DONT BOOK WITH THESE PEOPLE. I'm doing my best to warn everyone!

Claimed loss: Online payment was for AU$981.17. We were charged AU$1945.36 – this is AU$964.19 of at best erroneous but probably fraudulent overcharge

Desired outcome: return undisclosed surcharge and the extra cost incurred by the incorrect conversion to US dollars. Refund AU$964.19

Getaroom Deceitful and dishonest

This company's ad appeared to be a hotel that I was booking. When I booked, I immediately saw that it was not and phoned them. I was told that Even though I immediately called, they were penalizing me 2x the amount of a 2 night stay. I contacted the hotel and my credit card company. I called them back and told them that I disputing the ridiculous penalty charge. Ben agreed to cancel and waive the penalty charge. However, they continued to tell my credit card company that I agreed to the penalty, which I did not, and they continued to process a payment even though they told me it was canceled. I contacted the FTC since I didn't receive anything and the charge was excessive. This is a scam and they prey on people.

Getaroom Unauthorized credit card charges, false information

Online price said $219 a night, free 24 hr cancelation. I started to fill out the information and as soon as my credit card info was entered I was charged $631. I did not authorize my card to be charged $631 so I called the hotel immediately. They said I was charged $209 one night & $187 the second & that my total with taxes & fee were $437 but that I had booked through Get a Room, so I called them to find out why they charged my card without me confirming anything & why the price was $631 instead of $437 they offered me a 10% discount or told me I could cancel & be charged for one night for a reservation I didn't confirm.

Getaroom Book a room

I thought I was booking a room through holiday inn only to find out that it was booked through this company on a no refund policy. I never book with a no refund policy. Our reservation is almost a year out and the company will not allow any changes to the reservation. Reservation #R4533057531. I don't know how I was fooled into thinking this was a holiday inn reservation.

Getaroom Scam website beware

We booked a room with Hyatt in Jacksonville Florida! The website I used looked like Hyatt.com with nothing on the site that this was a 3rd party vendor for hotels! We got to Hyatt and had to pay for our room again because Get A Room had not sent the money that we paid to Hyatt! We called get a room, they are refunding the $165, but keeping $45 for a cancellation fee? We didn’t cancel the room, they failed to fulfill their service contract to send the money to Hyatt? Where’s my full $216.50 Get a Room? If I don’t see it by Monday, I will be filing a complaint with the FTC and our AG office here in Florida!

Desired outcome: I want my full amount that I paid because Get A Room failed to provide the service they said they would!

Getaroom Booking of hotel

I made an enquiry today the 1st of November at 9h45 to book from South africa a room in the inter continental hotel at or tambo. I did not approve the payment, and book a room just debited my account with R10043-43. I want this reservation cancelled immediately and my money refunded to me.

Getaroom Getaroom hotel - deceptive online transaction for loews hotel room

I thought I was booking directly through Loews Hotels, and this company spoofed Loew's Hotel's website. I have booked many times through Loews and was totally fooled by this, and also significantly overcharged by this company compared to the rates posted same day by Loews. Very deceptive. I knew once I saw the entire charge go through, and at higher rates. I can't seem to get through to anyone to attempt to cancel, and having now looked online, I am very concerned I have been scammed. They charged a "tax recovery fee" of nearly $800 added on to the hotel charge which as noted was higher than the posted rates by a lot. This is so upsetting - not at all the way a company should operate - trickery - and I am typically very cautious - AMEX has flagged this now.

Claimed loss: $2,677.55

Desired outcome: A simple and prompt refund

Getaroom Get a room is a scam

I booked a room in Paris for 23-26 October 2023 from them. They showed 10 Euros under the other rates on Google maps, which fit into my organisation's price threshold. Without any prior notification, and without my noticing it, they tagged on 202 Euros to my bill. I only noticed the day before the reservation. The invoice says that it is for hotel fees, etc., and the balance goes to them. Well, the hotel didn't charge any fees. So on a 512 Euro hotel bill they added 202 Euros.

Falsely advertising rates on sites such as Google maps is against EU law. The fair pricing clause of EU Consumer Law indicates that advertising of rates must show all fees to ensure fair comparison with other rates.

The company claims it is transparent but it is not. There was no indication of these extra charges until, if you had been paying attention, the very last moment of the transaction. This is a gotcha and EU law knows it. I will file complaints until I get my money back. Have notified Expedia (who actually made the booking), Google maps, the parent company (Priceline), and my credit card company. I am also informing my very large organisation and asking them to blacklist this company.

I have enclosed the typical Google maps shot of price comparisons. I didn't know I was being cheated so I didn't make a photo of the actual price comparison for which I used to make my poor decision to use Get A Room for this booking.

Claimed loss: 202 Euros

Desired outcome: Refund of 202 Euros

Getaroom Refund

I had a reservation with the Hilton Hotel in Minneapolis and when I arrived they informed me that in fact I didn't on that date. They did in turn find it for the same arrival day but a week later. What they did was send an email to getaroom cancelling my reservation and inform me to do the same and then proceed to book me a room for the evening. The situation for me, is that I did call and thru there system cancelled my booking, with the understanding that they would refund my visa card. Turns out that they do not refund at all and that it's my issue. I didn't use the room and the hotel cancelled so how come I can't get my money? They are telling me that I need to call the hotel and deal with them, this makes no sense to me. They didn't pay the hotel, they still have the money sitting in their account.

Desired outcome: Get a refund

Getaroom Mistaken hotel reservation

Outline of incident with getaroom.com:

At approximately 8:10 am Rome, Italy, time, 9/28/2023, I input into my iphone search: Apricot Hotel Istanbul Turkey. The site for this hotel came up - apricothotelreservations.com. I proceeded to make a reservation for a room at the rate of $132, with tax etc., $195.12.

Less than a minute later, I received a confirmation email from the hotel. It was then I learned that the hotel was NOT in Istanbul, Turkey, but was in Hanoi, Vietnam and was through getaroom.com, not apricothotelreservations.com.

I immediately called the 1-800 # to state that this must have been a mistake and that I needed to cancel the reservation immediately. (See Exhibit A)

The man on the phone said, “Oh, yes, I see the reservation. I am sorry. We all are human and make mistakes. But, I can only cancel it and you will not get a refund.” We talked for many minutes. I was trying to understand how I could enter Istanbul, Turkey in my iphone and end up getting a hotel in Vietnam. He kept saying it was human error, but I could not get a refund. I asked to speak to a manager, but the time in Allen, TX was 1 am, and there were no managers available. He said he would leave a message for the next available manager to call. (See Exhibit B)

We boarded the plane to Turkey from Rome, and while I was on the plane, Mary, a manager, had called from getaroom.com and left a message. Obviously, I could not take the call due to having my phone on Airplane Off.

I called immediately upon arriving in Istanbul, was put on hold for ½ hour and never got to speak to a manager because apparently they were all busy.

I tried again the next day (9/29/2023) - due to the time difference it was all I could do - and again was put on hold again for a long time and told the same thing - all managers were busy and someone would call me back. No one did.

Once back in the United States, on 9/30/2023, I called the 1-800# multiple times in hopes of resolving this issue. I was put on hold each time for approximately ½ hour.

The 6th time I called your 1-800 #, I talked to a very nice woman who suggested I call the Hanoi hotel directly. This was the first time anyone from getaroom.com had suggested that.

Also, the payment for the hotel was still considered pending as of 9/30/2023 and did not process until 10/3/2023.

Still having an International Plan on Verizon from my trip (or so I thought), I called the Apricot Hotel directly. I talked to a nice young man who said it was the middle of the night but he would pass my information on to the manager in the morning. He even emailed me to confirm my address so the manager could email me back. (See Exhibit C)

As you can see from the correspondence by 10/1/2023, I had still not heard from the manager. I waited one more day and called Hanoi again and spoke to the manager directly. (Exhibit C)

She said that because I had not called Apricot Hotel directly the day I booked the reservation in order to cancel, there was nothing she could do. She asked me WHY I had waited so long to speak with the hotel directly. I told her it is because the reservation confirmation says to call a 1-800# in Allen, TX to handle all problems. Then, she starts talking about another company named Agoda (?!) that I should have talked to. I had no idea who Agoda was and asked her how could I have spoken with them if I have never heard of them before.

She also stated that it was now October 3rd, 2023, and that the September 2023 reservations had all been processed and there was nothing she could do to help me. It was my fault that I hadn't called her hotel earlier. She also What’sApp me what she had said. (Exhibit D).

I felt so helpless. I had tried to do all that I could to cancel immediately but got the biggest run-around from your company.

I also got charged $77.19 from Verizon for the international call made to Hanoi, even though I had an international plan. Turns out, Vietnam is not covered in that international plan. That was yet another phone call I had to make - to Verizon - for 23 minutes, to understand why I was being billed $77.19. (See Exhibit E)

Finally, on 10/09/2023, Mary, the manager at Allen, TX, returned my calls/emails. She had no sympathy for me. In fact, she was very rude. She said I should have called immediately and that the best she could do was to give me a $50 check. I was outraged.

I would like the following monies refunded to me -

$195.12 hotel reservation

77.19 phone call to Hanoi

TOTAL AMT: $272.31

If anything, I would be pleased just to get my money back from the hotel reservation and somewhat of an apology for the work and trouble I have gone through to communicate with your company.
