I purchased a GE Built-In Double Wall Oven on 08/04/2022 at a cost of $2,299.99. It was installed around 09/06/2022. I had no problem with the oven until December 26, 2023, when I attempted for the first time to use the "self-cleaning" function. I read the instructions and followed them to the letter. The oven reached extremely hot temperature and the cleaning lasted 5 hours. I was told by a Geek Squad tech that this is normal. I noticed a smell during cleaning but the door to the oven locks during self-cleaning. So, I didn't attempt open or to stop the self-cleaning cycle. When the self-cleaning cycle was completed, the oven had burned most of the interior enamel finish off itself. I contacted Best Buy from whom I purchased the oven. The oven is still under the Geek Squad Total Tech support warranty to repair or replace it. Best Buy sent a Geek Squad tech to my home who merely looked at the damaged oven; acknowledged that it had burned itself; took pictures; and then told me that the oven is functioning as it should be and that the burning is a "cosmetic" issue, and therefore, not covered under my Geek Squad Total Tech warranty. I escalated the matter to the CEO of Best Buy and still got no relief.

GE is making wall ovens with defective cleaning functions that cause its wall ovens to overheat and burn themselves. This is a functionality issue as well as a safety issue. I have discovered that litigation was instituted against GE in the US District Court for the North District of California in 2017 regarding GE's defective wall ovens. Best Buy knows or reasonably should know by now about this problem, but Best Buy is continuing to sell the defective GE ovens and then refusing to repair/replace the ovens by saying the ovens are functioning properly and the issue (mal-functioning self-cleaning function) is a "cosmetic" issue. Both GE and Best Buy need to be sued.

Claimed loss: $2,299.99

Desired outcome: Replacement of my GE Built-In Electric wall oven, or removal of the oven from my home and crediting my Best Buy account in the amount of $2,299.99.
