Nature of complaint: Disputed returned-payment charge and unresolved billing error.
I received a notice from FPL stating a $91.38 payment was returned by my bank as "unable to locate," resulting in a $30.00 returned-payment fee and suspension of my Automatic Bill Pay. I verified in person with my bank that there was NO record of any such payment attempt for $91.38 — nothing was presented to them, so nothing could have been returned. My banking information in the FPL portal is correct and unchanged and has worked for years. This indicates the return was caused by an error on FPL's or its processor's end.
I attempted to resolve this directly with FPL. The customer service representative refused to investigate, blamed my bank, and declined to reverse the $30 fee. When I requested a supervisor I was placed on hold for over an hour with no answer; a second call disconnected after 45 minutes, and online chat was unavailable. I have been unable to get anyone at FPL to address the error.
I have always paid my bill on time and this error is not my fault. I am asking the Commission to help resolve this dispute with FPL.
