FBC Canada's Business Tax, Bookkeeping and Payroll Specialist

I gotta say, FBC Canada's Business Tax, Bookkeeping, and Payroll Specialist ain't exactly my cup of tea. They charge an arm and a leg and claim to give you top-notch, personalized service. But let me tell ya, that's just a load of baloney. My tax filing for 2018 was a hot mess and way overdue. And get this, they didn't even bother filing my personal part! Can you believe it? I only found out about it in March . It seems like they target farmers and small businesses who rely on them for support. If I didn't have my own trusty bookkeeper and assistant, I would've been clueless about how careless and inattentive they were to my business.

My husband and I have been using this company to handle our income tax returns for a few years now. The person who used to do our taxes from this company got fired in September . This company charges you a year in advance, and we weren't happy with the new person they assigned to us. So, we asked for a refund. They said they couldn't give us our money back if it had been more than 10 days since we wrote them the check. They fired the guy who was doing our taxes months after we wrote the check. We had our paralegal write them a letter requesting a refund, but we didn't receive anything. They claim that because of the audit protection in the membership, they can't refund the money. They have a membership for just getting the taxes done, which is 75% of the regular fee. If they say that 75% of the fee is for getting the taxes done, and we didn't let them do our taxes, how can they legally keep 75% of our money?

Just like everyone else, I was convinced by what seemed like a capable business. But once they have your money, your representative will disappear. They will probably ignore you for weeks or even months without any apology when they finally contact you. I'm behind schedule on several matters that FBC was supposed to handle. I also regret choosing this company and wish I had done a more thorough investigation. If only I had known I could cancel within 10 days, I would have done it! But, of course, their sales representative won't inform you about such a thing... This company is the worst. It's truly a terrible business, and I wish I could warn more people. I might personally email them to request a refund because this is a nightmare. I would rate them 0 out of 5. Stay away.

FBC & their employee (let's call him Adam) almost put our company out of business with their accountant's sheer incompetence. He was 18 months late with our taxes, forgot to send in a year, and as a result, our bank account was frozen for over a month while Adam tried to get another $2000 out of us to do the current year's taxes (which after all the issues, we had gone to another business). Their filing of our taxes had multiple errors and cost our company tens of thousands of dollars. We had asked them for a refund on a number of occasions, even after an FBC manager found other issues that the accountant had made. This is by far our worst experience with any company, and working with them continues to be an issue within our business to this date, that is how badly they messed up our taxes.

I wanna give FBC a less than 0 review but can't. I met with an FBC rep in Feb. 2020 and she made it sound great with all the extra stuff you get when you sign up. The Membership Letter of Engagement says they'll provide certain services, but they don't tell you that you gotta ask for it and make an appointment. They won't reach out to you. We signed a 2-year contract (which we didn't know at the time) and you only have 10 days to cancel (the rep didn't tell us, but I guess we should've read the whole contract). If you don't like how FBC treats you after those 10 days, tough luck, you already paid. Be careful, we won't pay for services before we get them again. I'm so mad at how FBC claims to make life easier but when I tried to cancel and get a refund, they said no. They didn't even try to fix the problems I emailed them about. I'm really disappointed that I didn't research this business better.

What a terrible experience! First of all, FBC's "Tax Specialist Supervisor" is a marketing major with no accounting experience, yet he came in to "fix" the nightmare situation FBC put us in. We paid almost $5000 to get them to do our corporate books. We sent them a QuickBooks login link and 2 months later they still hadn't logged in! They had all our invoice backup and took 2 months to do anything with it, causing us an accounting nightmare and a rush to get our year-end done. The statements they provided back were not properly reconciled and would have embarrassed any first-year accounting graduate. But like I said, their Tax Specialist came from Bell and has no accounting experience. We ended up having to get someone else to do our taxes because it was such a fiasco and spent another $5000. Despite not completing any of our corporate or personal taxes as the fee was supposed to cover, they didn't refund us. The icing on the cake was they created the invoice for a service never properly provided incorrectly (not made out to our company that hired them but in our personal names), something EVERY accounting and bookkeeping firm knows. The *** will likely be disallowed as we were audited and the invoice is made out to the wrong company. When I reached out twice to get it corrected, the supervisor was as rude as he was every time I have interacted with him and no invoice has been produced. Shameful company of accounting snake oil salesmen and anyone looking for accounting help should run the other way.
