I made a reservation through DoYouItaly for a rental car and opted for the "Platinum" insurance, which, according to the website, was supposed to offer full peace of mind and coverage in case of damages.
However, upon arriving at the rental office, I was informed that this insurance was not recognized by the rental company, as it was considered a private, third-party policy. I was asked to leave a €900 deposit, and in order to avoid complications or blocked funds, I was essentially forced to purchase another insurance directly at the counter.
I contacted DoYouItaly, and they explained that the Platinum insurance is actually a deductible reimbursement policy. This means that in the event of damage, the rental company would charge me, and then I could file a claim for reimbursement.
This crucial detail was not clearly explained during the booking process, and the key terms only became visible after the confirmation documents were sent.
I asked for a refund or at least a partial reimbursement, but the response I received was cold and automated – no responsibility taken, no gesture of goodwill. They simply stated that "the policy was activated and cannot be canceled."
👉 In summary:
The insurance provided did not offer real protection from unexpected costs.
Lack of transparency about what the policy actually covers.
Poor, inflexible customer service.
⚠️ I strongly recommend reading the terms very carefully and understanding that the Platinum insurance does NOT waive the deposit and is NOT accepted by the rental office. It is merely a policy that reimburses you after you’ve paid out of pocket — if you're lucky and willing to go through the claims process.
Personally, I won’t be using this platform again.
