After completion of the booking, a page came up saying that I was eligible for a 15 pounds off my next flight to flybe. Tempting right? I thought so too. Clicked on the link to the voucher, and an email was sent to me. See appendix 1.
Note how I do not have to enter my details to login if I were to click on any links in the email. And the password is the same password used for flybe. How convenient.
Anyway, my first flight to edinburgh from birmingham got delayed by 2 hours. My flight back from edingburgh to birmingham got cancelled. Sent an email to flybe, last year. No response till date.
Now, i've only just check my hsbc uk account, and was shocked to see so many "intl" transactions even though I haven't had that many overseas transactions for the past 2 months since I am back in singapore now. I believe i've seen these transactions before today, however i've been using my card for overseas payment to regularly. So I thought these intl charges were fees for overseas transaction. But definitely not this month. So I checked all transactions with intl as the header. Completesave.Co. Uk.
Called hsbc to dispute these charges as they as I honestly believe to be charges taken out from my account without prior consent. Transferred from 1 department to another, the first contact with the customer service agent counted only 4 charges. She then transferred me to the security and fraud team, or some similar department. While trying to connect me by placing me on hold for roughly 15-20 minutes, I checked my email inbox/spam/trash folder and searched for complete savings, that was how I found that email, and logged in to the website to cancel my account. Refer to appendix 2 for the cancellation confirmation. So if I were to receive similar transactions, I am very certain it is no longer a fault of mine.
Once successfully transferred to the security and fraud team, the lady refused to believe that I did not provide my details to complete savings, as it was a subscription fee that was charged 8 times. (Possibily suggesting that I should have checked my account more regularly? I dont know) informed her that I am very certain that I have never ever never ever provided any card details to them. She went quiet, and I ask if I could dispute these charges then. And so I was transferred to chris from the disputes team, or somewhat similar department. He was very helpful, but informed that he would not be able do a chargeback for these transactions, but can put a stop to similar charges in the future. Plus other disclaimers. Well that was perfectly fine. I am just a poor international student from singapore, I am not a high flyer with hsbc. So maybe no goodwill compensation was deemed necessary.
Now, where do I go from here to get back the 80 pounds that was charged. Why would flybe be an affiliate with such a website? How much affiliate commission would they be getting from this? If completesaving is as good as some review states, would they be kind enough for a payout of that amount? Or would it be as bad as some users review them to be.
See how they are a company registered in switzerland (Fine prints on all their email) , so any law suite or bbb contact from anywhere other switzerland would not have any effect on them. I believe there will also be a disclaimer that protects them from any legal action taken against them. Correct me if I am wrong.
80 pounds may not be a large amount to many, but as an international student, it should be able to finance my utility payment for at least 2 months. And it is definately not about the money at this point, more so on how they use such discount/rebate offers to trick people into clicking on the link, or how such reputable and legit companies like flybe would tie up to affiliates with completesavings. From my understanding on reviews online, online merchants like pizzahut, argos are all partners with completesavings.
While I hope that I might be able to get back these charges, however slim the charges maybe, please be careful whilst making online payments. Do not click on dubious links with offers/discounts. More often than not, they should be phishing scams. Just purchase whatever you need and go. Being a budget traveler and using flybe cost me more than what a normal flight carrier would.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.

I had 20 pounds out of my bank account without permission using my bank details. Called the Complete savings by phone and they said they would cancel my membership and couldn´t get my money back. I didn´t subscribe any of this as I don´t buy anything online except my flights by Ryanair. Would you please help me to have my money back. This is a fraud and should be reported to the police. Thanks
