I had no idea I was being charged a monthly fee for what I thought was some freebie information from Stamps.com. It was a year before I noticed a 17.99 charge on my card. I called to cancel and the rep asked if I ever got the 'free' scale. I said no and she said she would send it and then cancel. the scale only works with Stamps.com software. How ignorant is that? She did not cancel and I have now been charged 3 more months, which I have challenged through american express. If people like this only knew what 17.99 means to me. It is medicine and groceries. Where has integrity gone? I too am interested in a class action suit.

These guys are complete Fraud. It takes about a month to receive your postage refund for duplicate labels. Their customer services is senseless and at times rude. But what got me the most is their account closing procedure. I've shifted my business and no longer needed their services so I decided to close my account as they were charging me $17.99 per month (way over current market. Ex. such services are free on PayPal).

My remaining balance on the account was only a few dollars but these dollars were hard earned and completely belonged to me. I called their customer service to close my account and it took about a minute to complete the process (I'll give them some credit here as it's pretty fast). Then I get an email that I still owe them money. And guess for what, for one day of service when I haven't even used it for a few weeks by then. See below for a snapshot of my email.

I sent them an email asking to explain these charges and also to refund my remaining balance. All I ever received from them was a slap in a face aka We are sorry you feel cheated but you still must pay?. They have never addressed my question about returning my remaining balance, and probably never will.

As far as I can tell these guys are a complete fraud. They make money by ripping people off. If you were to ask me for my recommendation, do your homework before you sign up with these guys. Their service is ok while you pay but they will suck out every cent from you they can at the end.

On 1/1/09 my credit card was charged for $19.99 by SCI*STAMPS.COM. I was unaware that I had opened an account with them. I logged on to their website only looking for information. I thought I was dealing with the USPS. I have asked that the amount charged be refunded and my name be taken off their account list.

I just got a "past due service invoice" for a service I never signed up for or have used. When I called to get more information, they refused to believe me. When I tried to cancel the account, they asked for my social. (How did they get it?) When I did reach a supervisor who cancelled the account, I got a follow-up email charging me another monthly fee plus a "service fee" for cancelling the account. Although I have used this company to buy a book of stamps, I *never* agreed to the monthly lease agreement they say I did, and it has never shown up on my credit card statement, althoough they say the bill dates to 2007. I contacted USPS, which endorses them, and they said it is between me and the company, and they were unaware of any problems. However, just google "stamps.com" and "scam" and check it out...

I was lazy to go out to buy stamps one day and tried to sign in stamps.com. at nowhere they told me I needed to pay 15.99 monthly fee. So I signed in, but never used their service as after they mailed some studff to me, I got teh styamps already. then I looked at my credit card for this month, they charged me again, I thought man, what's going on and I called them but they refused to refund me. Is there any way I can get my money back? or it's a tuition paied forteh lessopn?
Thanks

I also had no idea my account was activated since I never received the free scale and never started using the account. Only until the credit card didn't process the payment, they contacted me. I never got paper nor e-statement. The representative in the beginning insisted they sent e-satement via email but her supervisor clarified that they never send paper nor e-statement.

Is it legal to not send any statements?

I am interested in a class action suit.

17.95 charges began appearing on my credit card statement. I contacted stamps.com and was told that I had signed up for their services. I didn't even know what stamps.com was. When I tried telling them that I had never signed up, I was told that someone must have perpetrated a fraudulent sign up using my credit and personal info. What a lie! Three "customer service" operators and supervisor later, I was told that stamps.com doesn't make mistakes on sign ups, but they do "attach" sign up forms to other non-related internet transactions. What the hell is that? The supervisor told that all charges would stand, but he would be happy to cancel my subscription but let all current charges for "past services" stand. What a crooked company! Watch out for these crooks.

Stamps.com has worked for my family for many years. You must have done something wrong.

This sounds identical. I, too, have been a victim of stamps.com. I was on USPS' site first, and I didn't know I'd had left it. As soon as I provided my account info, it was over. I didn't order anything, authorize anything, submit anything - nothing! I called. I told "Jeremy" to cancel. He seemed to cooperate and gave me a confirmation number. I thought that was done. They debited my account for $19.99. There are many times that would put me in the red. I called and went through 3 more reps, the last one admitting record of my call, acknowledging that I had wanted to cancel but claiming Jeremy had fully explained that the trial period was for 30 days and that 30-day period was not over, therefore, if I really wanted to cancel, I'd have to call back on June 11, 2009, and re-cancel. Come on . . . No, he didn't tell me that, and no, they won't refund. They acted like they did me a favor to waive some pro-rated charge of $2.30. I've complained to the USPS Office of Inspector General; the Office of Consumer Affairs, USPS; the BBB. The USPS should be more responsible than to endorse this scam.
