I placed an order for the Child Craft 4 Piece Nursery Set - Ashley Convertible Crib, Dressing Station, Hutch & Full Bed Rails - Matte White on 9/8/2008 with SimplyBabyFurniture.com.
At the time, it said on their website that I should expect shipment in 4-6 weeks. I followed up on the order in the beginning of October and was informed to expect shipment by 10/24/2008. This did not happen and I continued to follow-up on my order throughout November.
The week of 11/10/2008, I was informed that the shipment would be shipped out the beginning of the following week. This also did not happen and when I called to follow-up, I was told that the manufacturer was still waiting on one piece before shipping the entire order out.
Thirteen weeks later, my order has still not entirely shipped. I am waiting for the hutch that goes with the dressing station. My last email communication with SimplyBabyFurniture.com informed me that it is to be shipped out this week and I sincerely hope this happens.
While the customer service response to my queries has been commendable, I'm hugely disappointed in the way that the company has managed this order. I currently live overseas and had decided to order my baby furniture from the US because of the quality and selection. I had planned plenty of time for delivery of the furniture to Houston and then have the furniture and everything else I ordered for my first baby to be forwarded to Switzerland.
I was only informed that the furniture was backordered through my personal follow-up. I was never given any alternatives should it take the furniture up to 13 weeks to be delivered. I was never informed of a true date as to when to expect all of the furniture until about two weeks ago – and until I get a confirmation of shipment, this is still to be determined.
This is a very important time in our lives and it makes me very sad that my baby will arrive home at the end of this month with only the bare necessities – some of which I have had to borrow because of the late arrival of the furniture order from the online store. I have been given time off work during this last month of my pregnancy and instead of properly preparing the nursery for my baby, I'm losing sleep over when and if my furniture will ever be delivered. Even if it wasn't to be delivered overseas, this extended time lapse between order and delivery is simply unacceptable.
I considered having the other things I ordered shipped here to Switzerland first, but that would cost me an extra $600, an expense that we cannot spare at this time.
From this experience, I know for certain that I will never order anything made by Child Craft Industries ever again. As mentioned, while the customer service response I have received has been impressive, I will likely not order from Simply Baby Furniture again either. I will also definitely through word of mouth warn my friends and other expectant mothers of my experience with both Child Craft Industries and SimplyBabyFurniture.com.
