SCAM!
Masterplans "business plan" writing service is a SCAM! My business partner and I are literally exhausted after 2 months of fighting tirelessly with Masterplans to try to salvage something for the services that we paid $1265 dollars for! After receiving a half attempted business plan we took the document to a gentlemen at the SBA to review it and be sure it would stand up to the scrutiny of the bank lender. After review he discovered and described 21 major structural errors within the plan that are not only a must but are also considered standard in the most basic business plans. When we politely took these changes to masterplans to be corrected our planner was conveniently always away from her desk and eventually "out of the country". After a week of the excuses we were contacted by a second employee who said he would be taking over the project for us. He continued to argue with my partner and myself, defending the initial plan and refusing to extend our editing time even in light of the need to basically start over. In an attempt to move the process along my partner and I did all of the necessary research and rewrote the entire plans major components and corrected the incorrect financial calculations. We then emailed it to the new planner, asking him to simply format the text to fit the format recommended by the gentlemen at the SBA and maybe add a little beef to the core document. He proceeded to argue with us, act annoyed, and eventually hang up on us! I then called the supervisor complaining of our rude ridiculous treatment and asked him to refund our money. He then assured me that he would continue to fix the document to our satisfaction until it was up to the lenders standards, and would extend our editing time until it was accepted by us. Unfortunately 5 days later when I received the updated draft he had fixed only minor grammatical errors and still did not format the document to the simple format we were asking for. When I emailed him thanking him for his efforts and ask that he only finish the formatting correctly and we would accept it, he went off on me in an email and told me he washes his hands of our project and for me to no longer contact him and by the way "good luck at the bank"! I have never been treated so rudely or unprofessionally in my life. Not only are these business writers kids fresh out of school that have no idea what they are doing but they constantly argue with you and refuse to custom your plan the way you or your bank request it to be done. They not only ripped us off for over 1200 dollars but they also caused us much pain and anguish and delayed our start date by months. Please do not use this company and if they have already ripped you off PLEASE report them to the BBB. It is the only way to take a stand against scammers like Masterplans.

Violation of Contract; Unauthorized Charge
I entered into a contract with MasterPlans to provide me with a "ready business plan" as per the "Scope of Work" stated in my project contract. While Masterplans insisted on 5/30/2012 that I sign the pre-authorization for the remaining payment of $1, 750.00 via my credit card, I refused advising them I would not give them the authorization to bill my credit card until I'd received the draft and "approved" it.
MasterPlans "baulked" but finally acquiesced by changing the "original" standard agreement... to the binding agreement to read: "$1, 750.00 due at the draft delivery (With Approval)". I did not sign the "Payment Information and Authorization" until two days later (6/1/12) when MasterPlans had agreed to my new terms requiring my approval before billing my card.
It should be further noted, that their Terms and Conditions paragraph 3; 3rd, 4th & 5th sentences... "The second payment will be pre-authorized prior to delivery of the rough draft to ensure the card on file is still active. Once the rough draft is delivered to the client, the transaction will be conditionally settled electronically. As used in these Terms and Conditions "Rough Draft" shall refer to Scope of Work as per attached page one."
On Friday, June 15th, 2012 at 3:43 PM EST (15:43 hours), MasterPlans "swiped" my card billing my credit card without my approval and prior to providing me with the "Rough Draft". Approximately five (5) hours, 8:38 PM EST (20:38 hours) after billing my credit card, MasterPlans emailed me the "Rough Draft".
My contention is that MasterPlans violated the contract by not delivering the rough draft and getting my approval before billing my account. MasterPlans knowingly and willfully defrauded me by providing me with a sub-standard/elementary product that MasterPlans knew would not be accepted or meet the "approval" that was necessary for the charge.
While it is my position that the aforementioned is more than sufficient to support my case for non-payment of the monies in question, reviews of the MasterPlan product and recommendations to terminate MasterPlan contract by a well-respected third party that has vastly more experience in business plans... and a complied list of extensive number of nine (9) pages of consumer complaints and emails concerning my case addresses the secondary issues of an unacceptable product.
I contended that I should be refunded my investment in MasterPlans being that they have violated the contract that was set forth and agreed to by both parties. In addition, now that I have spent my money and received a product that was obviously known by them to be sub-standard (why they charged my card violating the terms of the contract in the first place)...
I have also had to spend valuable time to drop all projects to redo the business plan to include hiring my CPA to do a professional project financial analysis. Anyone who decides to use this supposed "well-qualified and reputable company" should definitely think twice. I have written many business plans in my lifetime in over 30 years in business. Deciding to choose this company to lighten my load has actually caused me more of a burden than I thought possible.

Wow, that is odd. Masterplans was great for us. They did exactly what they told me they would and I got a VERY perfect business plan for my new sneaker shop I wanted to open.
Credit Card Scam
Charged Credit Card without delivery of the "rough draft" and receipt of prior approval as stated in contract. The Draft finally delivered was a joke. Inconsistencies, irrelevant out dated statistics, financial reports that were totally inaccurate, etc.
Totally not what was contracted for nor what is advertised. Total Rip-Off !

Possible Scam company
I just contacted Masterplans.com and I spoke with a nice lady who explain me what they offer, the price $4, 400.00 (50% at front and the other 50% at the end). Always I do researching before giving money out to a company. My present husband was scammed several times and I told him that we have to be careful. The first image of masterplans.com was a professional company. They have so nice designed business plans online. When I started opening the samples they sent by e-mail and research for the websites mentioned in their plans, they didn't exist. I made more investigation regarding masterplan.com and scam. For sure I will not move forward with this company. Thanks for all this complaints I am able to open my eyes. I have been doing research for years after I hired a company that scammed me . Hopefully someone can stop this fraudulent company. They still doing dirty businesses and is sad that they still in the market.

False Statements, Product Not Delivered as Promised, SCAM
I requested information on a business plan and was contacted by Tom Martinez who talked fast and explained the business plan process. It was like he was rushing through his script to get to the credit card information. Like an idiot I bought into the idea of saving time and the ordeal of doing the plan on my own, and gave up my CC info and in 2 seconds the charge for half the plan was debited. I received an email a short time later from Leah Wing with the agreement. Too bad I signed it. Obviously at this point my mind is more focused on the needs of my business and being able to secure financing with a plan that is much better than I could do. Boy was I wrong. After faxing this information to them, I received an email from Paige Short - Project Lead. When we spoke I provided lots of information about the products, sent my resume, and an idea about what I wanted to do. Then I did not hear back from her for over a week. Finally I get a draft that has financials done by a 5 year old. They do not make sense at all, almost laughable by myself, let alone a lender I'd have to sit in front of and try to explain. I emailed Paige back with some estimations. First just to give you an idea. I really need about $20, 000 in funding. The plan called for $120, 000. The gross margins, revenues, net profit, cash flow, balance sheet, made absolutely no sense for my business at all. You could tell it was cookie cutter, some kind of spreadsheet that just filled in random numbers.Mind you since this was my draft, as soon as it was emailed another $450 came out of my account. And in the email was a statement saying I have 21 days to request revisions. When I emailed Paige back and advised that these were off, she said she would work on it. Then again 5 days go by and finally I get a Word Document and PDF file. The changes were barely made, if none at all. The financial statements were ridiculous and made no sense. There is no way anyone could walk into a bank and think they can get a business loan, line of credit, or request from the SBA...So the rest of the plan anyone can get from the internet basically - and even I gave them the product descriptions, my background. The executive summary is cookie cutter. The demographic research I'm sure they can afford to pay for that additional info, but most of it can be found by googling demographics in my area... as I type this I feel stupider for not even making the attempt to do this myself - lessons learned I guess, but I want anyone who even thinks of using Masterplans.com to be aware and STAY AWAY FROM THEM...once they get your money they don't even want to give you time on the phone to go over the plan revisions step by step, they just try to stay away and send emails out every few days. Or if you even mention a revision after you receive your draft, they take 4 or 5 days to make some minor changes that way those 21 days you get, go by fast! THE BIGGEST SCAM IS RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF OUR EYES. The reality is is that no one else knows what kind of plan someone else gets so they just think they are the only one, or don't understand how it's like every other plan more than likely. And the financial statements MAKE NO SENSE AT ALL - you are better off going to an SBA or Business Workshop and taking the time to write your own plan at least that way it will be the way YOU NEED IT AND PLAN IT TO BE. I will never again pay someone else to do something like this again.
I agree with datson240z, we've had several clients call us complaining of the poor reputation MasterPlans has with it clients. One client actually called after reviewing all of the complaints that are out there about company and said they would never use MasterPlans.com. I suggested using BusinessPlanMyWay.com. They have always treated our clients very well with their service and price. I would highly recommend them.
"Scot" you sound like Bryan Howe. "Heli Fed-Up" get it! You also posted this same post on the internet in other places. The proof is always in the facts. Masterplans.com has the worse Better Business Bureau track record in the industry, has multiple complaints with the Oregon Secretary of State, and isn't being accused of just poor work but of scamming, ripping-off clients and breaking the law.
There's literally hundreds of posts from unhappy clients online (ComplaintsBoard & [redacted]) not just claiming poor service but fraud, class action lawsuits, fake endorsements, Masterplans is a scam, fraudulent sales practices, Better Business Bureau complaints and complaints filed with the Oregon Attorney General's office. Most can't be faked but are real, documented actions against the company from ex-clients that PROVE wrong doing and have been brought to the attention of authorities.
And "helifed" you are the ONLY person to have posted anything positive about Masterplans online since they began operation 6 years ago. Go figure?
Sorry you didn't have a good experience.. I used them on one of my busineses and had no issue. I went back to them to get 35k in funding and the bank was impressed at the depth of the plan. I have worked with Paige on two projects and she has always been responsive. Paige took the time and got her financial modeler on the line and he explained it to me so I could fill in any questions the bank had. I not saying you didn't get the service you paid for.. I am just giving you my experience.
Regards,
Scot
My experience was just like the above I guess you get what you pay for, the thing that really pisses me off is that I thought that I was getting a deal and in the end I am worse off then when I started!

Scam
This company tauts themselves as listed in Entreprenuer magazine and doing business with Al Pacino. They are a complete SCAM. I have complained against them to the State Attorney General's office and the Better Business Bureau in their respective state.
They claimed that they would charge me half up front for the business plan writing service and half at the date of delivery. THEY LIED! They charged me half up front and the other half three days later prior to delivery of the plan and prior to negotiations for the plan. After about a month and a half of negotiations with the company, disputing the charge with my bank, and final delivery, I had the plan independently reviewed by an impartial business and technology development center in my state who said in writing that the plan was shotty and the number and percentages on the plan did not make sense and were not in line with averages listed on bizminer.com. I have since retured the plan to them because I am unable to present the plan to a bank because the plan's numbers don't match and did not include information that I stated that I wanted in the plan.
Needless to say, I am still in a dispute with my bank and the company regarding the charges to my account.
This company should be prosecuted for misrepresentations and theft!

What did your research reveal?
I’m curious about the negative reviews as well. I made contact with Brent this afternoon and he was friendly, knowledgeable and applied no pressure whatsoever. I do my homework too and although the most expensive service so far, I felt better and more confidence about their abilities to fulfill my needs than the other services I’ve contacted. They’ve been in business for 16 years. You don’t last that long with shady or illegal business practices. I will continue to research but won’t be going by the scattered negative reviews on this site by what appears to be people failing to use spell check and inserting words in all caps. Just sayin’, y’all. Details matter as a business owner and as to your experiences, a quick look in the mirror may be warranted.
Master plans was refereed to me by a trusted source. Never the less, I am researching the company before I even contact them for information. I have read the above string of comments starting back as far as 2009, all the way up to 2013. They are mostly negative content about rip offs and lying. This brings me to ask; Why then are they still in business nearing the end of 2015 and no comments, good or bad in the last 2 1/2 years? I would like to hear about any more recent encounters with Master Plans.
were you ever able to get positive satisfactory results?
I have just looked up the BBB website and masterplans is BBB rated. They were never pushy or rude salespeople. They e mailed me and I responded. I have talked with Miri and she has changed the contracts to fit my liking, and as requested, clarified some of the issues that people are having. I cannot find anything on the supposed cases against the company. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Logan.
It wasn't a case of being misinformed though; 3 months ago they were listed as an A+ BBB accredited business, I read it with my own 2 eyes. Now details for the Masterplans.com/Sente Inc. come up as "! BBB Business Review on Sente Inc is being updated by BBB !".
In any case, I'm glad I opted not to take my chances with them. And just the same, I do with people would use BBB more often than finding other sounding boards to voice their complaints. The Bureau isn't good for much, but at least it can be utilized as somewhat of a valid complaints department. Especially for companies like this who apparently write and post so-called "reviews" on their own webpage.

Vinny - your confused because your misinformed.
http://alaskaoregonwesternwashington.bbb.org/Find-Business-Reviews/name/masterplans/97086/
Masterplans.com is NOT accredited by the BBB what so ever.
Its totally false listing and they are have no integrity.
I am so confused... how come none of you people went to BBB?
Master plans has an accredited BBB A+ rating with only 2 complaints listed which were resolved. Other than 3 somewhat weird posts on [redacted], this is the only forum I found with negative reviews, albeit most other so-called "review" sites are affiliated with the company in some way. Nevertheless, if they suck so bad and are such scam artists, why the A+ BBB rating?
I hope the next person who complains here also files an official complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well.
The service really sucks. I should of did my research. Instead I bought into all of their smart sales tactics. After my plan was completed and the full amount was paid, it seems all they wanted to do was get me to go away. I was very patient while they were writing my plan. I didn't bug them, trusting that they knew what they were doing. Thought it was a little odd that they didn't ask certain questions. They told me that they had written many plans for my industry and are professionals. After I received my first draft, I realized that their claim wasnt true. I had to ask for more information and question them. Even when I tried to ask for advice on if I should include something or not, I got a "What do you think?" in response. Which I did not like at all because I trusted them as professionals to tell me if something didnt look right. When I received my financials on CD, Paige (who wrote my plan), failed to properly explain everything to me. I specifically asked her if there is anything I needed to know before editing the spreadsheet. She said no. Which I found out when all my financials were messed up that there were certain cells I was not supposed to alter. She also didnt send me information or explain to me where all of the figures came from. It was after 5 emails of the same question that she finally sent me a word document. Pretty much saying "Leave me alone and read this". Note that this was during the 21 days after my completed first draft. I really should of did my research. I needed people who I felt really cared about building a great plan for me. In the end my plan turned out great but I dont feel that I paid for a service of value. There's more which I'm leaving out.
It's a shame one bad apple sheds such a dark shadow over an innovative creative little cottage industry. Not knowing that they are professionals business plan writers on the internet I found some I was interested in and did all my research just like you. I went through the same thing you did basically, passed on masterplans and ended up going with a company i was very happy with and they brought a lot of experience and guidance. You have to take complaints on the internet with a grain of salt but when people talking class action lawsuits, fraud, and scams and over a long period of time it makes you wonder if there's some truth. I give just about everybody a chance until they prove me wrong. I'm that kinda person. What really took the cake, but I had already made my decision to say "NO", was all the employees who shared a lot of facts logically put together.
