Helzberg Diamonds Shops rip off, scam, fraud, $3500.00

NEVER SHOP WITH HELZBERG JEWELERS! Mislead to shop with Helberg in 2 ways! In 2009, I purchased a diamond ring - 3 stones. I was told if I were to spend my money with Helzberg - I could upgrade & trade in my ring anytime and receive the full amount I purchased it for. I called back in June of 2011 & was told, "Yes. You can upgrade your ring as long as you spend double its worth." ! They failed to tell me that on the purchase date. I was very excited to shop knowing I could keep the full value of what I payed for the ring. Also - when I told her my receipt said the ring was worth $3500.00 - she said her, "Records indicated I only paid $1900.00 for the ring." ! She showed a refund and I never received any refund of any kind. Why would I? I bought the ring, have the ring and still have the receipt. I asked her why her records were wrong & her only reply was, "I'm sorry. You could bring in your receipt & we could compare notes but our computers show you paid only $1900.00 & our computers could be wrong but we do purge them every now and then." ! At the time of purchase I even asked - "What if I lose my receipt?" & the even then reassured me they keep all of their information. So moral of the story:
1. Know you can only trade in a ring if your spend double its value - which in my case is $3500.00!
2. Keep your receipt safe! They DO NOT KEEP ACCEPTABLE RECORDS!
And, lastly...
3. Get everything in writing. You are making a purchase that you could BE STUCK WITH LIKE I AM NOW!

I agree with this post! Helzberg talked my husband OUT of the ring I wanted and into the most hideous ring I've ever seen. Then told him (after my proposal was ruined and heart broken with disappointment) that he could exchange the ring. We went to exchange the ring and got jerked around. The ring I enacted to exchange for was only $400 more and they said it was $900 more. I pulled the ring up on the Internet (on my phone), compared items numbers and the ft ghetto b**** who selected my hideous ring wouldn't honor the price the ring was advertised at...she also held on to the ring we were looking at and wouldn't let us see the price tag. After spending $15, 000 at their store in the last, they didnt treat me like a valued customer and Ill NEVER do business with them again. I hate my ring and hate them!

First and foremost, I will tell everyone who may be reading mywords here as a "REAL ONLINE ATLANTA PERSONAL JEWELRY DESIGNER, JEWELRY BROKER, AND JEWELRY CONSULTANT."

DO NOT BUY JEWELRY HOPING TO TRADE IT IN FOR ANOTHER ITEM OF JEWELRY OF HIGHER PRICE OR VALUE, IT'S A WASTE OF YOUR TIME.

I never tell my online customers, "IF YOU BUY MY JEWELRY AND KEEP IT, ONE DAY YOU CAN TRADE IT IN AND GET A MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE PIECE OF MY JEWELRY" because it's not going to happen.

My advice to all of you, if you can't afford an expensive item of jewelry, get what you can afford, then save your money for the item of jewelry you may want."DO NOT TRADE IN JEWELRY FOR AN EXPENSIVE PIECE OF JEWELRY" because you're only playing yourselves.

Helzberg Diamonds Shops pearl ring

I purchased thousands of dollars from Helzberg Diamonds over the years and always purchase the Service Plan. I recently purchased a Tahitian Pearl ring for my wife and had a problem from the get go. My wife went back to the store and did not get a warm reception to say the least. They final sent the ring out for service and replaced it with a discolored, terrable version of a pearl after going around and around they finally replaced the pearl.

Round 2. My wife was away on business and while sitting in a meeting the pearl feel right out. She went back to Helzberg Diamonds in the Lehigh Valley Mall and saw 3 associates standing there talking. A few minutes went by and finally someone came over and said, "Now what is the problem!" My wife explained the problem and the associate stated that the pearl is just crazy glued in there and that she can do it at home. WOW! I couldn't believe what I was hearing. They finally took the ring in for service. I'll let you know if there is a round 3.

It would be a great mistake buying anything from that store if you value your jewery and customer service!

Helzberg Diamonds Shops faulty product and terrible service

Bought a pair of earrings from the radiant star line. Paid $1019 for 1/4 carat earrings. Bought them as a gift for my grandmother when she was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Unfortunately she went quicker than thought, and probably only wore the earrings once or twice. Then when she passed my grandfather returned them to me. I had them cleaned at the end of last year. Then I had an opportunity to have them looked at by a jeweler. She told me they were worthless as they were both cracked. I took them back to Helzberg and had the worst customer service ever! They told me that they could not do anything except replace the diamonds, which I refused as I no longer trust their ethics (this is the 2nd piece of jewelry that had MAJOR issues that I purchased from them). Plus they no longer make that cut. I asked that I return them and be issued a credit and they refused. Or a partial refund- we could settle for $600-700 and I would be satisfied. They refuse to do a thing. I asked why they did not say anything about the cracks when they were cleaned and the lady said, they werent cracks- they were feathers! Tomato, Tomato... either way I feel ripped off and I will not be silenced. I have had two more jewelers confirm they are cracked and valueless. On top of that, getting them to return my calls when they said they would was almost impossible. Will never buy anything from them again, and will make sure as many people as I can tell- hear my story. BUYERS BEWARE! Helzberg sells junk jewelry and has no code of ethics or customer loyalty. My first piece of jewelry I bought from them- a small ring- about $500-600. held up worse than some costume jewelry I have. Lost several diamonds and the ring itself cracked in half!

Another settlement I suggested was that they return the merchandise in exchange for something of equal value. Again, they said all they can offer is replacing the diamonds. I didn't buy the earrings for the setting, I bought it for the diamonds. It would be like buying your dream home on a piece of property only to find out that the home needs to be torn down and replaced. And then the realtor tells you that you should accept their proposal of a new home- as at least you still have the land to build on.
I feel very taken advantage of and ripped off and will scream it from every mountain until consumers are no longer being taken advantage of like this.

My mom bought me a 18k white gold chain from their store in December for my christmas present. I had a really pretty diamond key pendent from zales and no chain. I just recently wore the necklace for 4 days in a row and noticed when I took it off that I had little red bumps and a rash around my neck where the necklace was. Ive only had that happen before with fake costume jewelry. Im less than pleased because the chain wasnt cheap, but it appears that their gold may be fake. I have every intention of taking it back and seeing what they have to say about it.

Helzberg Diamonds Shops pandora style bracelet

Two years ago when the Pandora Bracelet came out in the Michigan area a company known as Helzberg Diamond came out with hugh signs and advertizements for the new Pandora Bracelet. Since such time I have had charm after charm break on my bracelet. Fortunately, the company has replaced each charm due to the fact that a warranty was purchased at the time of the bracelet. However, today (2010) I happen to visit the store and indicate to the manager that I continue to have problems with a Pandora bracelet that was purchase for me as a gift and the manager said, " We don't sell Pandora Bracelets, and we never have sold Pandora bracelets." I informed the manager that my husband purchase a Pandora bracelet for me from this store. The manager insisted that they never sold a Pandora Bracelet now did they ever sell or advertise having a Pandora Bracelet. This is completely wrong because, I recall seeing the sign that advertised the Pandora Bracelet at the store as well as hanging from the ceiling in the store. I informed the Manager that my husband would not have purchased the bracelet if it had not been advertised as a Pandora bracelet. I believe that this is false advertising. You don't see store advertising look a like Rolex or Movado watches. When you use the trade mark of something reputable you expect to get quality not junk. I am extremely offended by this misrepresentation of Pandora and I think that Pandora needs to sue the Hell out of Helzberg for even making something remotely close to their product.

Helzberg Diamonds Shops snubbed!

I was with my children and dropped by the store to inquire about purity rings. There were maybe 5 or 6 other customers in the store, and every representative was with a client except for one client who was being helped by two employees. All she was doing was filling out a credit application, so I asked one of the representatives who was there if they had purity rings. She snapped at me! Saying that they'd get to me but right now they were with a customer. The children and I walked around and waited a good 5-10 minutes but she and her co-worker chatted it up with the client. Finally, we left.

Over the past 20 years my husband and I have spent thousands at that store. We will never, ever go back.

Helzberg Diamonds Shops poor (or no) customer service

My husband purchased a diamond anniversary band from Helzberg Diamonds while he was on a business trip in New Jersey (Woodbridge). He was told by the sales people that the ring could be resized to any size, as he was unsure of my American ring size (we live in Europe). This misinformation convinced him to go ahead and purchase the ring. It turns out the ring was so big, it could not be resized by a master jeweler here in Germany where we live. We were told the diamonds would probably fall out because of the great size difference. So I called the store manager and explained the situation to her. I told her I would send the ring to her via mail and that I would contact her to discuss next steps, either get it resized or get a new ring in the proper size. After the initial conversation with her, I tried to call her no less than 6 times, and each time she was somehow unavailable or with a customer. Finally, I got so frustrated, I decided to simply get a refund for the ring. I sent it to her and sent a fax telling her to refund my money. This was all done well within the 60 day money back policy touted by Helzberg. As it turned out Cathy Larson, the store manager, refused my package, full well knowing what it was and what I wanted, and the ring came back to me here in Germany, of course with no correspondence as to why. This is the most unprofessional behavior I have ever seen in a merchant, anywhere, any time. I am appalled by this uncalled for, immature, passive aggressive act. I am simply speechless. PLEASE DO NOT EVERY PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM HELZBERG EVER. You will have nothing but problems and unprofessional behavior from them. Save yourself the hassle. Go elsewhere.

Wow I didn't really know about the complaints on that Manager. I took my girlfriend last year to pick a necklace for her birthday and he took care of us. Talking all the time about how good the products were and all that. After she picked the necklace she wanted, he pull me on the side and offered me the same necklace $500.00 less than the price at the store. Of course, I asked him how, and he said that he could get it with his discount and resale it to me. I did not believe that and did not want to get in trouble for getting things that were stolen from the store. We left and bought a very pretty necklace at Zales. He is a thief with a tie and good manners!

Ohhh I know about that. He is very unprofessional. Many times you can see his girlfriend taking care of customers or his daughter playing in the back of the store. He is a poor guy that just want to show off. Well, you can probably tell, he is now selling jewerly in craiglist, go figure...

The manager at Montgomery Mall store in Maryland is worst than that. He thinks he knows everything and treats customers really bad. The bad thing is that when he gets checked up, he blames the employees. He brings friends to the store and things disappear and then the employees are responsible for that. Every body here hates him and we can't do anything to get rid of him. I don't know why they hired people that have so many complaints from another stores where he has worked before. People that used to work with him can tell.

I used to work for Helzberg Diamonds in another location. Although you are correct, that was unprofessional behavior on the part of *that* store manager, you can not disregard all of the Helzberg Diamonds stores. We would never have treated a customer in that way in our region, it would have been completely unacceptable and would have done anything on our part to help keep a customer happy. I work for another company now (unfortunately I relocated and there was no Helzberg Diamonds in my new area) and my current jewelry company does not provide the same level of service that we did when I worked at Helzberg. I truly miss it there. I am sorry that you had such a bad experience but one terrible manager does not make the entire chain. As a jewelry sales professional I can give you some insight on how it works, the next step any customer should take if they believe they are getting poor service from the store manager is to contact the regional or district manager. The issue will be resolved that way, and in the case of that particular manager, disciplinary action probably would have been taken against her. Next time, no matter what company it is, contact a higher up. It is your right to be treated the way you should.

Helzberg Diamonds Shops fraud/price gauging

My $4000.00 bracelet kept coming loose and falling off my wrist . So I took it in to see if anything could be done. I purchased this whole set-Ring, earrings and bracelet for about 7, 000.00 about 9 years ago. I have been a very good customer over the years-anyway I ask if they could put a safety chain on it with a clasped-The lady told me yes and that it would be 79.99-I said ok----I had my grandson pick it up when I got it I was very upset not only did it not have a clasp over 1/2 of an inch had a dark black mark on the new chain and it just barely fit over my hand-infact I thought it might break-I had him take it back to have it fixed-they did clean the black mark but said it would cost more to have a clasp put on or have it enlarged-I was very upset-I told them all I wanted them to do is what they said they'd do in the first place-they flatly said no-not without addition money-So people if you are on a budget as most of us are now because of the economy I suggest you go to a jeweler that does what they say instead of gouging their customers . Surely there is a easier way to make a buck-besides they have forever lost me as a customer and as many people as I can convince-I am 62 years old and own more than 80, 00.00 worth of jeweler that people are always asking me about-instead of sending people to Helzbergs I will be telling them to run not walk from their establishments.

Helzberg Diamonds Shops rip off

I was happy when i bought my fiance her ring. She was too. It seemed to go pretty well until we found out we were lied to.They told us there was a one time protection fee and its even on the receipt that covered damages or theft of the ring. When we got our credit card statements another story had surfaced. It turns out that we were being charged 40 dollars a month for a protection program we never enrolled in nor did we ever agree to.this 40 dollars a month was also accruing interest and had to be paid in full in order to pay off the balance of the ring.i was mortified.i have never been taken for such a fool and have never had anyone lie to me like that before.this has ruined my finances and my poor old mother whos on disability had to foot the bill in order to save us from the nightmare we suffered by stopping in to this dreadful company.i hope you guys are happy for ruining our dreams and making my mother have to use her emergency operation fund in order to bail out these poor newlyweds.please do not shop at helzberg and tell everyone you know not to ever step foot inside that shady company.

Helzberg Diamonds Shops fradulent charges were put on my credit card

On, January 7, 2010 I went to pick up a package from UPS as it required my signature. When I opened the package, I realized that I had received a “diamond ring” from Helzberg Diamonds by mistake. I have never visited your website, nor had I ever purchased anything from them. I did the honest thing and I immediately call Helzberg Diamond, explaining that I had received the ring in error and would like to return it. The person I spoke to couldn’t explain to me why I had received the ring, but the invoice said I purchased it on January 4th. I was not in town that day, nor did I go on the internet on the 4th, and I never purchased anything that day, especially from Helzberg Diamonds.

On January 20th, I noticed Helzberg Diamond charged my credit card for $126.49 on January 6th for this ring, which is something I never authorized. I don’t know how they got my credit card, other than through internet fraud. They have compromised my credit card, and charged me with an authorized expense. This is outrageous of Helzberg Diamonds to practice this type of fraudulent business. I've sent the ring back and filed a complaint with my bank, hoping to get my money back and also sent a letter to the Beryl Raff, Chairman and CEO of Helzberg Diamond and also one to Laura Kirsner, CFO and Senior Vice President asking them to credit back to my account immediately the $126.49 charge. I'm still waiting on an answer from both my bank and Helzberg Diamond.

Sounds like you indeed had your identity stolen by someone and they just happened to use it at Helzberg Diamonds. Two things to keep in mind, if this was a transaction done online through HDS Online there is nothing the company had to do with your fraudulent charges. If the transaction was made in store, then the associate who rang the sale should have followed protocol and checked ID to verify.

You most likely had your identity stolen by someone and they used your card to buy a ring... I highly doubt the company decided to choose you and steal your money.

Helzberg Diamonds Shops bad diamonds

I took my diamond wedding ring in to Helzberg with a loose diamond. They sent it off to one of their jewelers to be fixed. When it came back to their store the diamond had a noticeable black spot in it. I brought it to their attention and they would not do anything about it. They stood behind their jewelers they outsource to. I would have never bought this ring if it had had this black spot in it. I am very disappointed with Helzberg, I had always thought they were a reputable jeweler. I would never recommend Helzberg to anyone.

Helzberg Diamonds Shops expensive resizing & refused $50 coupon from their survey

I had 2 rings resized that cost me over $200 which is ridiculous! I bought them at Americus Diamonds in Austin, TX which is a high quality jeweler & I only paid $50 per ring 2 years ago. I also had a coupon for $50 off $250 purchase for doing the survey & they wouldn't give it to me! She told me I had to spend that in merchandise alone & then tried to sell me a stupid stuff animal for $12.99 when it was obvious saving $50 was more important so I could buy my mom a gift for Xmas. Zales & Broodkeys are both having amazing sales, but not Helzberg, and they couldn't even give me $50 so what does that say about doing good business & satisfying the customer. I spent over $4k on my wedding ring, & 2k on my other ring, so think about that amount & tell me how $50 compares in comparison when they could have made more than that off of me as a future customer, but now since they had to be so damn cheap I will never go back and I will not recommend this store. Then I do the survey again to complain & the web site goes down just as I'm about to submit my survey. Then I come here & read all of these complaints, now I'm freaking as I didnt check my diamond as it has a serial number inside of it. So did I even get my diamond back? All I know is there are much better places out there and this isnt one of them.

Helzberg Diamonds Shops - poor quality and even worse customer service

My husband purchased my 2 cttw solitaire engagement ring at Helzberg's and when we received it back from having it sized, the stone was completely loose in the setting. It rattled when I wore it and I was so upset. I couldn't believe anyone would even return costume jewelry to a customer in that condition, let alone an expensive engagement ring that should...

Helzberg Diamonds Shops not one, but both of our wedding rings destroyed

We purchased our wedding rings through them in 2005, and over the last couple years of having them clean and polish our rings, they managed to destroy not just my wedding band but my wife's as well. Neither of us have the same ring we did when we were married. They offered to replace the rings, but in my wife's case, they could not, and to get her ring to look the same, we had to pay them about $500 more dollars due to their error and shabby craftsmanship. I had reported them to the BBB and the Attorney general. I had taken off my complaint with them because they offered us to take care of the rings for the rest of our lives at no cost to us, and the store manager in Bellevue told us to always come to him, and he would make us a priority as we were a valued customer, and they wanted a chance to prove themselves to us. That was a year ago. My wife and I went in on September 4th (a couple weeks ago), and the store manager is gone, and the company refuses to do anything free for us. According to them, they have no information, and cannot help us based on a hearsay promise from their store manager. My wife has cried enough over this, and I really would like some justice done for a company that claims they care about your sentimental needs and wants you to trust them. I want them to not go back on their word, and to take care of us, as they should for what they have done. It would have been nice if they replaced the ring to look like the original for free. They need to understand that wedding rings are highly sentimental, and they should treat them as such. At least that is what their promise to you says on their wall.

"Our Promise to You

At Helzberg Diamonds, we know our customers come to us for their most important and heartfelt purchases. That's why your personal satisfaction is, and always will be, our number one priority. We stand behind your purchase because we believe in the quality of Helzberg Diamonds jewelry, and we want to maintain a long, happy relationship with everyone who shops here. You have our word that we will provide reliable quality, trustworthy expertise and a commitment to service like no one else. There are moments in life that transcend the everyday, and Helzberg Diamonds promises to help you make those moments sparkle."

I am so sorry that you are going through exactly what I am going through. They are promising to get me a 5th ring in the 4 1/2 years that I have been married to my husband! 5 rings in 4 1/2 years is nuts and I am so incredibly upset. I took my latest ring in for the warranty work (re-dip in the rhodium) and the guy buffed it so much that the diamonds on one side of my ring were ready to fall out of the setting! I have emailed head office a very very nasty letter and made it clear that this is just not acceptable anymore and that simply replacing my ring is no longer satisfactory... they need to really go above and beyond at this point if they hope to save this relationship!

Thank you for saying "Bellevue" for we are in Seattle. I just lost a stone in my ring and am under the 3 year warranty. It will be interesting to see what happens next. I'm really sorry for your loss. I have a good jeweler in NY now. Too bad I found him AFTER I got married. It would have saved my husband a lot of money. Let me know if you need his number: prettysymmetry at gmail. Perhaps you can surprise your wife this Valentine's or birthday. Best of luck to you both.

Helzberg Diamonds Shops buyer beware

Purchased a pr. of diamond stud earrings which I later took to an independent appraiser for evaluation for insurance purposes. The appraiser informed me that the earrings were of such an inferior quality it would be a waste of my money to have them insured. The appraiser further stated that because of such poor quality diamonds, she would be unwilling to even do a written appraisal of them. She did, however, write a letter indicating her evaluation of the diamonds.

I took this information along with the earrings to Helzberg Jewelers at the location where they were purchased. The store refused to offer credit or return on the earrings. The store manager "examined the diamonds" and told me that the only avenue available to me would be to "trade-up, at double the initial cost of the diamonds" in a future purchase.
I wrote to the Company Headquarters with the above information and rec'd. NO response to 2 separate letters regarding this purchase.

BUYER BEWARE IF YOU ARE EVEN CONSIDERING MAKING A JEWELRY PURCHASE WITH HELZBERG.

Helzberg Diamonds Shops - fraud and scam

Bought a 4000.00 wedding ring from them in 2000 which was an upgrade from the 2000.00 ring I got in 1998. Have not had problems with it until December 2008 when I noticed that the shank, 3/8 marquee diamond, and prongs was all missing out of my ring. Took my ring to Helzberg fully expecting them to fix it since they are suppose to have such a great warranty...

Helzberg Diamonds Shops fraud and cheating

On October 25th, 2008 Helzberg was having a jewelry show and I purchased a 2 K princess cut diamond for $10, 000 and a mounting for $3, 000. The next day we noticed a spot in the center of the diamond and returned to the store where they showed us 2 yellow diamonds that we could trade it for. My choice was clear with carbon in it or yellow with no flaws. I was told at the time of purchase I could upgrade at any time and receive full credit for the ring so we decided we would just upgrade next year once this ring was paid off.

90 days later the engagement ended and I went to sell the ring, assuming that I would receive about 1/2 of what I paid. To my surprise I was offer $1500 from the first Jeweler and $2500 from the second. The reason - they don't carry such low quality diamonds! I was embarrassed and humiliated that I had over paid by so much!

The next step was to call the store, that is where my sales person Mike told me that I would pay more for 'Mall Quality' diamonds that from an individual jeweler. Boy that made me feel wonderful. He also stated that if I wanted to upgrade I would need to spend at least as much as I did before to receive my full credit. This was new information to me and I'll be darn if I am going to give you another $15, 000 for a higher grade “Mall Quality Diamond". I was told my best option was e-bay to sell the ring. Frankly if I thought an e-bay buyer wouldn't be as upset as I am I would try it, but could you imagine receiving a diamond ring in the mail and noticing the huge carbon deposit in the center like we did? I could not pass this one to someone else like that. He did give me the customer service phone number so I called them and spoke with a manager of customer service.

His solution was to have the jewelry store document the cut and clarity and write a letter to Helzberg. Has anyone tried to do this? No one wants to write a letter for a consumer that had obviously been ripped off! Two of the stores told me they would not get involved, however the 3rd one did – I call him my new diamond guy for life! He frankly felt so bad for me, knowing what I paid, he wrote the letter and stated he could buy the same diamond for $1500 and would sell it in his store for less than $5000.

ith a whole lot of hope and a letter in hand I followed the Helzberg process and took the ring and all paperwork back to the store and they sent it off for their internal grading report and up through the customer service channels. So 3 weeks later guess what - I am sorry there is nothing we can do says store manager Anna! Come and pick up your worthless diamond ring!

I am writing this to protect the consumers of America and if through my efforts I protect just one consumer that walks away from this store I will be satisfied. I purchased the ring and with in 90 days discovered I bought a $1500 stone for $10, 000. I believed all the hype about Warren buffet being an honest business man and that a consumer could believe in a company he owned. I am not a diamond guy but this is atrocious that a business can simple do this to the consumers. I hope several people read this and decide to purchase their jewelry elsewhere. Please for my own sanity let me know if I saved your money from Helzberg's.

Well it seems like buyers mistake and probably uneducated sales people. A mall diamond store hires random people where as somewhere like Tiffanys probably educates their sales people or hires gemologists. Before you buy a diamond you have to know what you are getting. A diamond is a diamond neither Tiffanys nor Helzberg can make one good or bad. You have to know the grade, the cut, the color, the clarity, depth. I have a 2 ctw. (two carat total weight) ring from Helzberg that is four diamonds in the middle. I know this is not going to retail as well as one that is a whole diamond middle but It is beautiful and I got it at a great deal. I went to the gemologist and they appraised the ring for 4k when I bought it for 3600. So that is good news for me. They also appraised it for a higher clarity and color. I don't like their warranty policy (where you have to bring it in every 6 months to get it "checked out" because I don't trust sales people). Stores like Helzberg don't get GIA certificates for smaller diamonds that are worth less. These places are not good to go to unless you find a really good deal. I would never buy 10k from any of these places, not even Tiffanys. Go to Blue Nile, James Allen etc.

A customer of Helzburg wished to sell a ring she had purchased from them to me. I met her at Helzburg to view the ring and confirm it's value, carat, etc.. She had advertised the center stone as 5/8 ct (marquis) and side stones total .36 ct.. The jeweler, I'll call her Sue, looked at the ring thru her loop and stated it was .28 carat. I asked her to double check, which she did and again stated .28. With that the seller pulled out her appraisal from Helzburg which stated in one place that the center stone was 1/2 carat and in another place it was 5/8 carat and in no place did it state actual points of the center stone. It also stated the side stones totaled .36 carats. It was immediately obvious when I first saw the ring that the center stone was not 5/8 carat, but closer to 1/4 carat, however, I didn't say anything at that time.

I asked "Sue" how the math worked on that appraisal since the stone had the lazer .28 carat and the appraisal had two different carat weights and either of which were on a point basis, just fractions. She looked up the ring in her computer and explained how it's value had really increased over the last few years. I told her that was very nice and again asked her to explain the math. With that she took the ring and appraisal to the store manager. When she returned she explained that the center stone was 5/8 carat and when fractions are used the points encompass a range. I told her I understood that, which is why the appraisal should have the point carat weight and why the stone DID have the point carat weight which was .28 which does not equate to 5/8 but to 2/8 or 1/4. I asked her to please explain that math. She took the ring and appraisal back to the manager. This time when she returned she fed me the same line. I asked her point blank, "Does 5/8 carat equal .28 carat?" and she said yes. I asked her if 1/2 carat equals 5/8 carat and she said yes. I asked her if .28 carat equals both 1/2 carat and 5/8 carat and she said yes.

I find it totally amazing that when Helzburg is caught, in writing, making such an error, they will stand behind their lie. She looked me straight in the eyes and lied to me. If I had been somebody that didn't know much about math or diamonds, which most consumers don't, I could have been defrauded to the value of about $2, 000.00 because I relied on the expertise of the jeweler at Helzberg.

I will never do business with Helzberg and I highly recommend that anyone seeking an honest business transaction not do business with them either.

PS
We took the ring to 3 other jewelers to see if they would give us an approximate idea of the carat weight without removing the stone and actually weighing it. All 3 did so and the general consensus was 25 - 30 pts.

HELZBERG DIAMONDS IS A RIPOFF.

For starters, I received a 14K Marquis Solitaire .50 UNCERTIFIED ring years ago from my then fiancé. The original sales receipt lists this ring at $3995 retail! He got this on a holiday special and paid with taxes around $3k. At that time, I did not press him for paperwork..I was happy to get the ring and thought nothing about it. He had the receipt and other warranty documentation, and the last thing on my mind was whether he was ripped off.

I ended up leaving him, and upon his death, he left the ring back to me. Being that I am under 40, single and can’t wear the ring, it will sit in a box in my closet. I figured it would be best and he would appreciate me selling it for something else of value that I could use everyday. HOW WRONG I WAS. I CAN’T GIVE THIS RING AWAY. NO ONE WANTS IT. I have sent this ring to 4 diamond buyers with offers between $200-$300. To my ASTONISHMENT, I took it to a jeweler myself, to receive a verbal that equates to this diamond being a piece of crap. HALF OF THE JEWELERY BUYERS SIMPLY DO NOT WANT THIS RING, or they lowball me offering $200 (majority).

I wrote to HELL-ZBERG’S CORPORATE OFFICE, to get very RUDE customer service if you want to call it that. I inquired as to whether this ring had certification that was simply not passed on to me or my then fiance’ and I was told that it is uncertified and the reason is that they do not certify all of their diamonds in order to keep a variety of offerings to their customer (total b.s.). I then wrote back asking how it is, if a diamond is uncertified the value is determined. It makes no sense they would price a HALF CARAT RING at $4K retail that is uncertified and they offer nothing..they said the best there were willing to do since I can’t get to a retail store (which I would still get the same outcome anyway) is to get an insurance appraisal. I do nto need an insurance appraisal, I need what EVERYONE WHO OWNS A DIAMOND RING NEEDS, PARTICULARLY AT THIS OUTRAGEOUS PRINCE…A FREEGIN CLUE OF THE 4 C’S. I find it hard to believe that I can walk in any jeweler and ask for this information, yet the place I purchased it from CANNOT AND WILL NOT provide it after they received $3k for a $200 ring. Anyway, once I caught on to their b.s., they then stopped returning my emails…I was blown off completely. I did warn them that if they treated me that way I WOULD POST THE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK THEY DESERVE and they IGNORED THAT TOO, so HERE IT IS JERKS.

This was my first diamond and first engagement..had I known, I would have NEVER allowed my fiancé to purchase this ring or I would have immediately returned it myself. They seem to prey on men and their ignorance, and clearly they saw mine coming…he is CLEARLY unknowledgeable about this and they sold him an UNCERTIFIED DIAMOND at the price of a PERFECT CERTIFIED HALF CARAT DIAMOND. I could ring his neck for buying me this P.O.S. The only value this contains is that it is from him…it’s a cheap piece of crap and he worked very hard for his money.. It’s nothing short of awful and with all of the complaints I see they will be out of business with these sales tactics. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, NO ETHICAL SALES PRACTICES….HELL-ZBERG *^&*&^ SUCKS.

Oh, and for you HELL-ZBERG sales clerks – do not bother responding with your b.s. excuses. THI SHAPPENED TO ME, and it’s happened to many people from what I see..your apologetic emails do no one any good who was ripped off having no recourse. I could have gotten an UNCERTIFIED DIAMOND at KMART or WALMART..it would hold more value than this I am sure of it.The point of going to a “fine jeweler” is to get QUALITY. Jewelers should NOT be allowed to sell UNCERTIFIED DIAMONDS..it defeats the ENTIRE PURPOSE of paying more money.

anytime you enter a jewelry store wherever it is located, one must realize the objective is for that store to encourage you to make a purchase.I visited several stores before making my choice and i knew going in I would be asked to make a purchase at each one.The salesperson would not being doing his job properly if he didnt ask me to buy.Checking my buying power or suggesting opening a credit card is all the same, how else do you think they can come up with your credit line?as far as what swayed my decision out of numerous stores to choose from, it came down to who I felt confident in their company and their quality of merchandise and the presentation by the salesperson.Helzberg Diamonds educated me about my potential purchase, I got to see several qualities of diamonds in the carat weight I was interested in.They were the only store that allowed me to see my choices under a gemscope, when every other store just offered me to see it with a eye loupe or nothing at all.I even got to look at the diamonds in just normal ligthing after seeing them under the gemscope which made me feel even better about my choice, sometimes all those bright lights can be misleading.I did decide on a 3/4 ct round diamond that was not certified but was just as beautiful as the ones that were.I even took my diamond and had it appraised by a G.I.A. independent gemologist and paid about 50 dollars to do so.It turned out to be an I1 clarity and H in color, it also recieved a good polish/symmetry and a good cut.I was very happy with my decision, Helzberg guaranteed those ranges even though it wasn't certified and as I was talking to the appraiser/gemologist, he said that a diamond thats not originally certified does'nt mean its not a quality diamond. It just hasn't gone thru the proccess of certification and thats exactly what was stated by the salesperson at Helzberg. In a world of limited trust, I would trust the people at helzberg.Just remember most people have experienced problems in numerous jewelry stores and its unfortunate. But think about all the people who have had a wonderful experience like myself.I am a Helzberg customer for life and have made several purchases within the last 3 years.

Thank you! You definitely saved us... Before reading your story, we were at the retail store getting the whole Warren Buffet story too. It was amusing when I read your comment and heard you got the same line!
We didn't get around to buying a ring yet because we had just started looking, but our issue has to do with dishonesty too...

After an hour and 1/2 of sitting through their presentation, the store manager asked us if we wanted to see what line of credit we qualified for. We said yes and proceeded to fill out the application he presented to us. Mid way through before signing, we specifically asked if the application was to open an account or to just see what we qualify for. He reaffirmed that it was to simply see what we qualify for. He got the response back, and we were thrilled. We told him we still needed to look around before making a decision and would go back. Before leaving he told us our Helzberg credit card should be arriving to our home within a week! I can't believe he lied to us! They played us and opened the account. Talk about dishonest!

We called HSBC and there was nothing they can do. We had HSBC comment in our account that we dispute the account and was opened under false pretenses. We didn't want to close the account either because then it reflects negatively on our credit score. It's deception at its best! We were very upset with the manager, but didn't rule out the possibility of doing business with another person in the store. But after reading all the awful review... we're staying far far away!
Thank you for your story. Hope our story will help someone else too.

Helzberg Diamonds Shops credit card policies

I bought a diamond ring 2 days before Christmas for about $2500. I going to put it on my credit card but was sold their 90 day same as cash credit card deal. Approval took about 5 minutes as my credit is excellent. I paid off $1000 in January. $1000 in Febuary. And the ballance in March. With that apyment schedule I received a late payment penalty of $39 on a minimum payment due of $37 and a negative credit report. The customer service representative very kurt and unwilling to work with me resolving this issue. I will be closing this account as soon as I can get verification that the ballance is zeroed out. I would not recommend dealing with Helzberg Credit.

I am allergic to the rhodium dio. I was told that they are not going on do anything because all I need to do is put nail polish on the inside of the band. 8,000 and that is all I get. Nothing after 2 months of communication. I want to sue them. Ripped off

Hello to you i'm James The Jeweler in Atlanta, Ga and i also have my own discussions here under "JEWELRY & WATCHES" i was reading your complaint here and i must say that this is a very bad way to do business as far as what the jewelry store Helzberg Diamonds did to you. I don't offer the same kind of plans many jewelers do i offer REALISTIC PAYMENT PLANS to my online clients. I don't quite understand why you should've even been charged a late fee on such a low payment schedule in the first place, and i think it's a very bad business idea of Helzberg Diamonds to treat you this way considering your payments you were currently making.

I don't know what type of ring you were trying to buy but there's no damn way i would've charged you a LATE FEE on such a small payment schedule, and i don't charge LATE FEES period on late payments, i inform my clients that if they can't make their weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly payments on time let me know atleast 2 days before their payment is due, then i will work with them, but if they don't they will lose their jewelry due to NON-PAYMENT.

I wish i would've known you before this ordeal happened, and maybe you wouldn't be dealing with it today. Should you have any questions feel free to contact me, and you can visit my online jewelry blogs at:
