Clayton Homes Manufactured home

I purchased a 2019 model that had never been lived in last February. Brand new poured concrete foundation. Less than one month and I had black mold coming through my walls, nails coming through the ceiling and floor, air coming around the windows, building materials swelling like fun house Mirrors. I filed my 1st insurance claim in March because there was water on the foundation in the back and it smelled like sewage. Eventually an adjuster made it out and looked at me like I was crazy And did not approve the claim. Within a month the toilet would not flush out, the washing machine would not rinse clothes. The black water line was not level and apparently that was a known thing because somebody had tied a copper wire around it instead of adjusting it correctly before it was sold to me as a new house. All the water and gutter run off from my house ceased to flow anywhere. The wax rings on both of my toilets were shoved and misaligned Causing my vapor barrier to swell with sewage. That's when I started living outside in A-tent or in my car with my 2 senior disabled chihuahuas. Both dogs are [censored]ting blood and vomiting upon entering the Clayton house. Constant headaches And dizziness. I have had to revive one of my dogs twice. When we leave the headache goes away and they don't vomit or poop blood anymore. We got a pretty big storm and I heard popping across the entire roof it's the entire roof that's when it's started raining in my house. The insurance adjuster thought $700 out of cover that. The fact is it's not OK to live around poop like that it's just sitting there permeating it's very bad for you and can kill you, he should not be an insurance adjuster. By the way a 5 year extended warranty was purchased on this house as well and is not being honored either. I can't tell you how screwed up it is to be paying for a brand new house and living in A-tent or my car. The materials and lack of skills putting this together Blows my mind. I would love to do a class action lawsuit if anyone else has similar experiences. [protected]

Desired outcome: As I do not see them honoring the warranty and replacing the vapor barrier deciding in the roof and the walls I would like a small metal building erected above this piece of trash that I can actually live in

My name is Wesley Henson and I’m from Hampton,Tn. I have had the same experience almost as you have. I’ve been in my way overpriced and way to CHEAPLY made home for over 6 years now. When I think of the biggest mistake in my life of actually purchasing a Clayton mobile shack I want to puke myself. Almost $67,000 on a single wide piece of crap and I am spending more money out of my on pocket to fix the places where the crappie insurance won’t fix or touch. I may not be the richest man on the planet, but I have a family to care for and live on modest working wages. Whoever and pretty sure it’s a Democrat WARREN BUFFET that is living large off of working people like us that keeps his big comfortable ego in highly priced mansion well worth over a $100 million or so and laughing at us in the process. Needless to say I have been racking my brain out to figure out how to get out of this contraption of a shack and in a better house that I can trust my family would be safe in. I have a 6 year old girl that has allergies and this place has been leaking so much because the shingles keep coming off and the first year since purchasing I have had 15 service calls made for here and 10 of those was for shingles on the roof coming off every time the wind got up. Now 6 years later I have 5 leaks in my home and realized that I made a huge mistake myself on Clayton. So I’m understanding what you are going through.

Clayton Homes Clayton Homes splendora tx

I purchased a new Clayton home from splendora, tx location in 2019. Ordered my home and was not contacted when home was moved onto land. I work overseas and Clayton homes wanted me to do a walk through to accept my home but could not make it due to working in Iraq. I sent my son to do a walk through, at which time clayton homes had him sign off accepting the home delivery. My son was not aware of documents he signed nor did he even know he would have to be signing anything. He is not the one who purchased the home nor the land. I have contacted Clayton homes to resolve this issue because I WILL NOT AND WOULD not have signed off accepting this home. In 2 years my shingles have come off causing leaks in various spots in home. Nail heads exposed on roof, electrical system faulty in kitchen. I have filed insurance claim on my roof and was denied. Had a roofing company come out and confirm leaking was due to manufacture mistakes. I am 67 yr old woman who has worked for the military in Iraq for 13yrs. I do not have the money to fight this situation. What are my options and is there an attorney willing to help.

Desired outcome: Composition $500,000

Clayton Homes Clayton home leaking

We have had issues since 2018 with our windows leaking, walls leaking, leaking around light switches, yesterday there was leaking all over bedroom wall from roof and again bathroom window, and the list goes on! There is probably mold inside our walls and we don't have money to fix everything! No one should have to deal with this I'm looking to get a lawyer and see what we can do because they came and fixed a couple things but not everything at this point they should have to give us a new house or just pay our off we should not have to keep paying for something that is falling apart that is not our fault we have had the house 6 years and a house should not be already having problems like this!

Clayton Homes 2008 double wide mobile home

Had a leak in master bath. Thought it was coming in around a piece of vinyl siding that had fallen off. Found out real quick it was the roof leaking, running right out of my bathroom light fixture.
Crew came out to fix it and after walking on the roof the construction company and insurance inspecter said it's the nails used to put on the shingles. They are working out and in turn causing the shingles to raise up enough to allow rain in. The construction crew asked had we ever nailed a tarp on it - NO. had we nailed any of the shingles backed down -NO they said the nailing job wasn't good at all.
What I thought was going to be a small job [protected]$) is now going to be a 4-5000$ Or more, new roof.
The roof is actually squishy feeling in many places.
This roof is 13 years old. I have a shop building that is almost 30 years old and the roof still doesn't leak. The shop roof actually had a 20 year warranty on a $8, 000 building. I love my home but this has really upset me.
Has there been any recalls or complaints on the roof such as this.

Desired outcome: Any recalls on the shingles or nails

Missing insulation under subflooring, missing insulation in attic. circuit breaker panel and circuit breaker by different manufacturers. faulty A/C system. damaged roof truss, roof rafters blocked which prevents heat from escaping. electrical outlets not anchored down. house wrap missing on parts of the home under vinyl siding. I had to get the state attorney general involved.

Clayton Homes Homes in Williams, AZ Shoddy Workmanship

We bought our house in March 2021. The following are a list of complaints:
1. Painting was just sprayed and not finished. They just primed the paint. You can see the spray on the ceiling in the living room.
2. You cannot lock the sliding glass door.
3. Toilet tanks are loose.
4. They put in a garbage disposal which you cannot have if you have a septic tank. They left a note saying we had to have a switch put in to operate the disposal. We had to pay to get it removed.
5. The surrounding grounds were not leveled and cleared of debris.
6. The tub plugs cannot be used because of excess adhesive. They left the plugs on the side of the tub indicating that they knew the problem existed.
7. A slat on the side of the house is bowed and needs to be secured.

We have called numerous times to the phone numbers provided and have had no success. When we have gotten through to someone an excuse was made. Put this together with the "Clayton Home" welcome pack touting their workmanship and I want to scream.

Clayton's workmanship is deplorable and their support is non existent. They should be ashamed of themselves. But this seems to be the sign of the times. Pride in ones work and honoring ones word is part of the past. Cutting corners, charging outrageous prices for shoddy workmanship and outright lying is now the norm.

Desired outcome: Desired Outcome: HONOR YOU WORD. Fix the problems

Clayton Homes NEW MOBILE HOME defective

I moved into a brand new home in October. There have been multiple multiple issues. Problems: 1. There have been at least 30 nails coming through the floor. I've cut my feet twice. They did come out once but have not been responsive to further requests. 2. I now have leaking window with wet walls. 3. Damage to exterior: everyone says it's "normal" from transit and refuse to do anything. 3. Bathtub installed badly but I'm told nothing can be done and it won't leak behind it. 4. Wall between bedroom bathroom bowed...again, sorry nothing can be done. 5. Multiple areas where wallboard is damaged or has stuff coming out from under the strips. "It won't hurt anything, they just didn't do the trim right". I could go on and on but finding a leak this morning was the final straw. I am looking for a lawyer.

Desired outcome: Repairs/Compensation

Clayton Homes Roof for starters, siding cabinets flooding under house. the list goes on

We just found out about this page this morning. We bought our house that apparently had the roof blown off at the dealership and was never told about it till it, was on our property and set up a month before it had rained. Apparently the dealership patched it and brought it out to us with out telling us about it from the start which we never would have accepted it in that condition had we been informed of the situation. I am guessing that's why were were never told. We only found out about it after the ceiling in our bedroom lighting had starting flowing out water along with the other rooms in the house while it rained for 3 days straight the first day we moved in. Wasn't told about the roof till after 2 attempts to "fix it" Had to get a roofer in after those first two attempts and everyone saying it was good to go before another leak led us to a roofer who said to us it was the worst roof he had ever seen thought we had the house for 10 years with that amount of damage and shoddy patch jobs so since being told it was fixed and it wasnt our best solution was to put a metal roof on to cover such severe damage and patch work and to ensure us it would not leak again. Cost us an additional 10, 000.00 on top of the 147, 00.00 we paid for the house. you wouldn't think at that price you would have to spend even more the first day you get a brand new home. You cant even say you get what you pay for at that price. My list grows and grows thats just the roof. Under the house kitchen sink the pipes were never set up correctly and not even a drain under house hooked up from day 1 so under the house began flooding every day for at least a month before we found out that there was severe damage under house. Our refrigerator was never connected so when turned on it flooded kitchen area into the office area swelling the drywall and bowing out the moldings by sliders. Let me see let me go on, I ordered red cedar siding then was told I could not have it so traveled back an hour to change color a week later to olive only to find out that when it was ready to come here they had put on the red cedar siding on and I was not informed till it was ready to ship to the dealer if that was ok before shipping it to them. No big deal but I guess why they don't do it (cedar siding)is because after a year when your told the warranty is up on the siding the sun has damaged it to a buckling mess in some areas. My time with Clayton homes has been nothing short of a years nightmare from hell! Would never buy again and would never recommend to anyone no real compensation has been made and everyone talks to you like you are no one. The manipulation and run arounds have been a disgrace when you voice your concerns you are to be made felt like you have done something wrong. Our list of damages go on and on its feeling like just a huge waste of time and breathe. The stress and aggravation has not been worth it. I would love to at least get my minimum asking back after all we went thru and a year later still going thru it things are still undone after being manipulated into a mere 2 minute survey in the end that was only meant to be about the last trip that was done wrong by a worker who also told us it was not the end survey it was just about the work he had done that day. We are still waiting on two top drawers in master bathroom to be fixed some one came out 2 separate times to fix and brought wrong drawers both times now we have two drawers that are make shift and are not correctly on the slides and cant open and close correctly. One living room wall is so badly spackled its all lumpy and wobbly not sure if it was from the rain leaking down walls or just poorly done. Front and back decks were done so badly with bad wood and splintered railings we added a new deck for $18, 000.00 to cover both doors because the floors inside were flooding inside house from backsplash pooling up on deck and door frames every time it rained we had towels down across back end of house. Moldings are separating and most have had caulking removed and hanging in every room some molding is pulled away from walls Every cabinet drawer had to be screwed in on left slides due to cracked hinges drawers still open wobbly every one of them. Screen door sits crooked. Shelves in bookcases and shelves in cabinets don't even fit in snugly most clips needed to be replaced for stronger hold. All the barn door hardware is coming off walls they were not put up properly but kept being told they were when everyone who comes here says there not right. There is just so much I would love someone other then a worker to actually listen and look around any time they want and not just pacify us by saying things like oh that's an easy fix or oh that happens or oh we will be back then never come . I know covid has damaged some things and has made things harder for companies and its hard to get the work done but this is a year now There are so many pictures to send will show a rep along with statements/ receipts from roofers and other workers that agree with us on the horrible job that was done on our home along with multiple email correspondences and being allowed to have it set up and "move in ready" when it clearly was not. The garbage and debris that was not ever cleared is still being cleaned up by my husband a year later. Most workers were annoyed to have to travel such a long distance just to fix an issue they are not happy to say the least maybe you should lessen the distance of your service sales area.

Our names are Jay and Anna Wang we ordered and paid for our home in cash $147, 000.00 in Dec of 2019 and did not get it till around April 2020 and was not able to move in till June 2020 from Tri-County Homes in Anderson SC (Joni and the gang there have helped with a lot of things they are not all to blame, factory has a lot as well to answer for) I'm trying to find what the client number is but if you talk to tri -county homes they definitely know us.

Desired outcome: At minimum the $10,000.00 back for the brand new roof I had to pay for on a BRAND NEW home the very first day

Clayton Homes Provide what their contract and agent represented

Clayton homes has many varied and creative ways to separate you from your money. Too bad they couldn't use a small fraction of that creative energy to make a quality product. It was a comedy of errors and incompetence and while Clayton Homes was laughing all the way to the bank we weren't amused.
While the appearance looks quality in reality it's like Toy Story 2 (the movie) toy store owner/villain who dressed up in a chicken suit: Cheap! Cheap! Cheap!
We like the end result however the "buying experience" was absolutely miserable. We gave them a large amount of money to start the project and that was supposed to include a visit to the factory to see the work in progress on our new home.
We were instructed to call a number and arrange a time we could visit. We called and called and left message after message and no one every returned our calls. After a couple of months of that we wondered if they had taken our money and went to Vegas to party.
When the structure finally arrived almost four months later it was a mess. We couldn't move in for some time because there was so much wrong with it in the first place and a lot of damage in transit. Almost every wall had to have the sheetrock replaced. Doors were in the wrong place and the wrong color. One wall was so "out of plumb" (leaning) and had to be completely rebuilt.

Just a few of the many problems we encountered:

Cheap door hardware.
Door knobs, while they looked nice were so flimsy they literally pulled off of the door with very little effort.

Cheap flooring.
Not only that but it was a bait and switch: We were shown a reasonably good quality flooring when we bought the place but when the order arrived it was very poor quality. The flooring installer with 20+ years' experience said he had never seen such poor quality flooring. All of the linoleum will have to be replaced in a year or two. Of course Clayton homes refused to provide the flooring quality they "sold us" or refund some of the money we paid them.

Cheap toilet
Brand new toilet we paid $200.00 to upgrade to a handicapped ADA compliant type for the elderly father-in-law had to be replaced in less than a year because it plugged up and couldn't be cleared. They used the cheapest toilet they could find and it is now at the dump.

Cheap plumbing.
We had sewer gas smells because of a defective vent. They used a "cheater vent" because they were too cheap to install the correct venting. The water pressure inside the home is very low which probably means there's a kinked pipe or partially closed valve because the water pressure outside of the home is fine. Everything is covered up with insulation so it's nearly impossible to determine where the restriction is.

Cheap plumbing (2)
And even though this place has two water heaters it takes almost five (5) minutes for the hot water to reach some of the faucets. I can solve some of this with point of use tankless water heaters but why should I be the one doing the engineering here? That's what we paid Clayton Homes to do.

Cheap furnace.
Furnace didn't even come with a furnace filter or even a place to put the filter so I had to modify the furnace access door so we could have a furnace filter. We paid a huge sum of money for this home and didn't even get a furnace filter.

Cheap (and dangerous) fireplace.
The glass door on the fireplace blew up. And I mean literally blew up. My wife and I were going to bed one night and we heard what sounded like a bomb go off in the living room. I went out to check and found bits of hot glass everywhere burning holes in the carpet. The force of the blast was so great it even bent the metal glass frame. Thankfully no one was nearby when it happened or there could have been some serious injuries.

There was no warning notices about this on the fireplace or in the fireplace instruction sheets either. And why would anybody in their right mind install something anywhere that they knew would have the potential of failing catastrophically?

We did some research and found out that there is a ceramic glass that is made for and can take the heat from the fireplace but Clayton homes used much cheaper tempered glass. And then they offered to replace the broken glass with the same thing! That's not just dumb…It's insane! Talk about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Also the fireplace was supposed to have an outside intake air vent but we found that we cannot run the furnace while there's a fire in the fireplace because the furnace sucks the smoke out of the fireplace and blows it though the ducting. We were awakened several times when the smoke alarm went off because the furnace went on while there was a fire in the fireplace.

I make computer control systems and am making a system that will detect smoke coming out of the fireplace and start a blower to introduce outside air so as the raise the interior air pressure of the home slightly to push the smoke out of the fireplace chimney. But again why should I have to re-engineer the ventilation and plumbing systems?

In summary: Do you want to have one of the most stressful periods in your life and get ripped off as well? Buy a Clayton Home. While the home is a nice design we cannot recommend them in any way, shape or form.

Clayton Homes Modular homes

I purchased 2 homes. Paid cash each over $113, 000.00. We have had work done and parts replaced and still parts are falling of the houses. Doors are off centered allowing air inside.
HS #2 have had the rear door repaired twice already and the lock broke again today. I dozens of photo's of the imperfections inside and out. I need someone from the manufacture to come out and see how the house if falling apart and I haven't been in a year yet.
The attached photos are just a few of the outside problems.
At this time the houses are not worth the money I paid for them.
I had to pay for things I should have been given, but the manager destroyed the plans. I had to pay twice for my 'Well' because he didn't oversee what they did. After I moved in my calls nor emails were not answered. Poor customer service.

Desired outcome: Have manufacture come out to site. Who ever build the deck needs to return.

Clayton Homes Landscaping, well, basement, gutters plumbing.

I'm writing this in the hopes of preventing this from happening to anyone else. My wife and I signed papers at clayton homes in villa ridge mo in June of 2009 with the understanding we would be living in the home in 45 days or less. The manufactured home was already built and there on the lot. We received a better deal buying that completed model that was already there. Also told it would expedite the process. We purchased property approx. 10 Miles from Clayton homes that already had a well a septic, electric and a driveway. The basement needed to be poured and the utilities hooked up. we moved in the day before thanksgiving. Five months after signing the papers. Three times longer than they said. First the basement leaked. They came out repeatedly they never fixed it. Finally they agreed to let an outside company fix it. Chad told me the only thing he could do was flash it. He said he'd never seen anything like it. Where the home met the foundation he said the gaps were huge. The other problem was the deck was nailed directly to the siding, not flashed. Nonetheless he fixed all of it. The water stopped working after a couple weeks. A couple days later their well guy came out. Clayton homes said it was the pre-existing well not their responsibility. Cost me 1800.00. After paying clayton homes so much to hook it up I probably could've had a new one drilled. The gutters weren't installed properly leaked horribly. I had to fix that myself 270.00 there's still an outside water spicket in my stairwell? Why? The well supply line started leaking underground so bad it was gush I ng out the drain tile drain. They said it would cost us 750.00. That was it! I called channels acti I n news I got a well company to fix it. Clayton homes had to reimburse me. Then they pulled up stakes from that location. The reason I'm writing this is to keep this from happening t I someone else. Theu go by several other names. Thats only maybe half of the things that were wrong. I never knew anything like this was possible. People beware of this company under any name!

Clayton Homes Warranty

Purchased a new home in 2019 was told a 5 year warranty came with the home 1 year later we found out the 1 year warranty that we were never told about had expired and that we did not purchase the extended warranty.
We were never told about an extended warranty or even offered it because the sales rep told us it was all covered for 5 years period.
Apparently that was a deliberate lie.

After submitting my 1st insurance claim they sent offers for extended warranties ended warranties to guests in my house. Only owners can purchase the warranty so pretty much that voids the warranty to have anybody else purchase it why are they sending that to everybody? And I can tell you for a fact that even if you did purchase that warranty for the 5 years they don't honor it at all because I'm in the same boat on a 2019 model that has gone to hell. I want to do a class action lawsuit I have been living on my porch in A-tent or in my car for a year now sick from breathing sewage that's trapped in the vapor barrier.
