On several visits to the store #329898 located in Athens Tn. 37303
While dining in at CaptainD's, @approx 8 P.M. employees completely disturbed my otherwise tranquil dining experience as they began general closing clean up in the dining area. The location closes at 10 P.M. this wasn't just sanitizing tables and sweeping the floor... they were sliding heavy metal frame tables and sweeping food dust and dirt particals up into the air all around my table as I tried to enjoy my meal. The following day I visited with the manager to make them aware of the inhospitable dining atmosphere I experienced. The manager said, in the future I should come before 8 P.M. to dine in, because they start general closings clean up at @ 8 P.M.
On another occasion I arrived to dine in with a guest @ 7 P.M. and as we were enjoying our meal listening to the tranquil music provided at the Athens location, suddenly and without any warning the staff began pulling booths out from the ealls all around us and began stirring up food, dust and dirt particles all around our table, my guest was appalled by what was happening and said, "are you kidding me... their doing this while we're trying to eat?"
I apologized to my guest and explained I don't know why they started so early, the manager assured me they didn't start general closing clean up unitl 8 P.M. atvthat moment it was only 7:15 PM...
As part of the particles swept up from the floor into the air and began cascading over our food, we both decided it wasn't worth our health, and got up and left in duscust of unsanitary cleaning method and the rude treatment we experience.
The following day I informed the manager of what had transpired. The manager was very defensive, but when explained I liked their food, but it's difficult to enjoy it with all the chaos and stuff flying around. She explained that they had limited hour's allotted for their employee's and had no choice but to begin general closing clean-up early in order to get them off the clock.
I explained I don't believe that's very good customer service, that if someone happens dine-in based on the advertised hour's of operation that employee's should disregard customers ability to enjoy eating a meal that they have just purchased there! She said she would discuss not dusturbing customers while cleaing with the staff.
I took a long break from eating at that location, but yesterday decided I could not resist the Captain D's baked potatoe and hushpuppies and that delicious tarter sauce any longer so I went to dine in. It was only 7 P.M. during summer daylight hours. I'd just finished getting the butter and sour cream in the baked potatoe, when suddenly the same rude employee began sliding table's around me, stirring dust and actually came over and swept under my table while I was sitting there trying to eat. The emoloyee didn't ask if it was okay, nor apologize for interrupting my meal. I told the employee It was rude and inconsiderate to just start sweeping under people's feet while their trying to dine. employee replied, "I have to clean up, if you didn't want me to sweep under your table you should have said so" I explained, " I understand that they want you to clean up but not while the customer is sitting at the table trying to eat... dont you realise that you're stirring up dirt and food particles into the air and on to my food?" employee responded, "well this is how they trained me to do it". I replied, "someone has taught you the wrong way to clean... it's not appropriate to perform these functions in the proximity of someones food, you're creating a health and safety risk for yourself and the customer by sweeping inappropriately". Emoloyee replied, "you want me to fix you and order to go" I replied, "no...I want my money refunded" employee replied, "okay I'll refund your money" then employee proceded to create a scene by raising her voice and declaring, I'm cleaning the way they taught me as employee looked over at the kitchen staff, ain't that right yall". Instead of handling the situation courteously the emoloyee escalated the situation by drawing the co-workers in, getting them to join in retaliation against me for voicing a safety and health concern at the restaurant. I told her I intend to report this incident to Captain D's management. My money was refunded, and in the excitement of it all I left my reading glasses at the table, I returned to get them and a few item's paper item's had been left on the table but the plate of food and my glasses were gone. I enquired with the cashier whom earlier had been courteous to me but when I asked?... what the other employee had done with my glasses on the table she said, "we ain't seen no glasses" the employee who cleaned the table also failed to turn in my glasses that were left on the table. Ironically as I was waiting forba response, I noticed someone had left their car keys on the customer side of the counter, I brought it to the attention of the cashier, who just looked me off turning her head, I said, "excuse me don't you think you should see if the customer is here who left the keys, she just ignored me. I looked at the closest customer and asked sir did you leave your keys? Another customer responded from the dining area, "oh thanks man forgot my keys". Now I believe that is how you properly and politely resolve an incident...
