I have had access to my direct-deposited funds on the same day, but the online banking is a big problem. It is true that you cannot know your actual balance online, particularly if you use the debit card. It seems the balance only reflects a nominal portion or maybe a percentage of the actual amount debited and it won't post the full amount or where it went to until 2-3 days later. So those funds look online like they're available to you, but you'll get burned with fees later when you find out that the balance is entirely inaccurate.

I deposited a payroll check from a second job, as well as a state tax refund check on Wednesday morning and it wasn't credited until Thursday. And here's the fun part, which I'm battling with them on at the moment:

At my full-time job I have direct deposit, am always paid on Fridays, and I use their online bill pay set up to have all my bills come out on payday Fridays. I discovered this morning that they changed my payment date on all my currently due bills to THURSDAY. I didn't tell them to do that. They didn't send me an email to let me know anything about why I might need to check my payment dates and make changes. They just changed it. So, of course now I am hit with nasty overdraft fees because they paid my bills out of my account on Thursday but of course my payday didn't change, I still got paid on Friday.

This is theft, and I told them so.

I am done with BB&T. They will flat ruin you. They don't credit your deposits until after they pull your debits, so this is another way they get rich off of responsible, hardworking people who think that once they make their deposit that they should have access to their money (in this day and age, when they can make automatic deductions the second you write a check, there is no excuse for there not to be). It's just wrong.

I got a car loan through Susquehanna bank and had the payments automatically deducted from my Susquehanna bank account. Never had an issue. Bb&t bought susquehanna out so everything transferred to them. I continued making my payments but one fateful day, I wrecked and totaled the car, only 6 months before paying it off. I had full coverage and my insurance company sent them the check to pay the loan off. 3 weeks later, I noticed that Bb&t had taken another payment out of my bank account. I quickly contacted customer support and was led on a wild goose chase. Later that day I received a call from someone at Bb&t saying they just found the check and would be sending me a check by mail to refund the payment taken out when it shouldn't have. This was over a year ago and at least 15 hours on the phone with different people through Bb&t. I never received the near $500 and know I never will. I also notice that if I dropped my account low enough, got paid, then used some money, they would delay the time my paycheck would go into my account and hit me with overdraft fees even though my paycheck was sent a day or two before the purchase made that caused "an over draft fee" bbt owes me and I would love to see that wretched place burn for their unlawful bunisiness practices.

We have been working overseas and our pay has been deposited into a foreign account, therefore our business account went into a dormant status without notifying us. Since we assumed we still had access to our money, this December we transferred 13K from our other BBT account to this supposed dormant account and wrote a check from it for the IRS as not to get penalties for underpayment. We found out that the check to the IRS was denied. We have looked at the BBT Commercial bank agreement and it does not cover this. My Question is if the definition of a dormant account is one without a transaction, the transfer was indeed an allowed transaction. I was told that it was a withdrawal that was needed by the branch, but deposits were accepted. Furthermore in talking with the bank employees "complaint department" and branch both said that we would have to go in to branch to change this and get our account restored and the check to the IRS resent. We are overseas and unable to do so and now we are without the funds in our other account to pay the IRS. I think this is illegal any thoughts or lawyers out there that would provide us information?

Hi Cheryl, we are overseas too. Sold our home and trying to get funds out of BB&T is almost impossible from overseas. How do you get funds from them other than the use of a debit card? Did you try depositing a personal check in your foreign bank account? We think this is our only option. Thanks, Kris

I am also a victim of BBT false practices and need to know how to get my money back. I work too hard as all of you for each penny just for a company to try and swipe as much as possible? Who has information for what to do next?

the worst bank in history. Opened the account, it took five times to get a debit card. In the meantime, numerous errors and numerous fees. They ultimately robbed me of $210 for issues beyond my control. I have yet to receive the credit card opened in July 2015! She had the nerve to ask me today if I wanted her to order one. Really! 8 times to order a credit card, 5 times to order a debit card. Your service is beyond terrible!

bbt stole lots of money from me and my husband the do not deposit your money right away so the can charge fees and when you talk to them about it the try and make you believe you are wrong. my husbands check goes in wednesday/thursday at midnight BBT is committing robbery. And I refuse to pay them...We have since switched banks to a military one that doesn't rip us off. I wish we couls sue them over this.

I am highly ticked off at such a sorry bank as BB&T I disrespect BB&T and wish God would clode them down for there unfair polices like cheating me out of overdraft fees over a bill I had scheduled to be paid in November 1st and they claim I made the bill payment schedule on the 21st of this monh and then conveniently loved me out of my account so as I would not be able to change it. BB&T I despise your corrupt practices.

I took the Plus Package 20 years ago because it included $10, 000 in life insurance. When I turned 70 years old, they lowered it to $5, 000. I just received a letter in the mail saying they are doing away with it completely. I called the bank to see if the money I paid in will be refunded and they said NO! I want to know how you can pay for something for 20 years and they use yor money and then just cancel it? I want the money I paid in returned to me. They can keep the interest they made off my money, I just want what I paid them. I'm a 83 year old widow and need the money or the Life Insurance Policy.

BBT starting charging us fees for trying to use a debit card ...not us using it. People who previously had our card number. They didn't pay it. They charged $36 for each time someone tried to use the card. We stopped using the account ...depositing or withdrawing anything for a couple of months. We just watched as they charged and charged for their charges and charged fees in the account...maintenance, etc. Then they charged overdrafts for their fees. We tried contacting them several times...then it got worse. They sent a letter to us for the fees demanding a deposit and said they would send out something in regard to accounts, basically where we won't be able to open one anywhere. We are -$460 and we never bought a thing or used the account. It is ALL 100 percent their fees.

I had a mortgage through BB&T and in 4 years, my payment increased by almost $500 due to increase in fees. I submitted 2 applications for a loan modification but was denied. When I contacted the loan mitigation department, the representative told me they could not help me because I was not behind on my payments. His recommendation was that I not pay my mortgage for 6 months and then resubmit the loan modification application. I am now in foreclosure. Does that make ANY sense?

I was a customer of BB&T since this sleazy outfit took over my bank. They have not posted electronic cash transfers, then charged me a fee for "Overdraft". The latest theft by this bank came when they FINALLY showed both my checking and my savings balances on the front page of their web site. I saw that all the money I'd had left in my savings account had been taken by the bank in the form of fees and "non-activity" fines. My regular checking account had activity every month. Now, all my savings is gone, stolen by this fraudulent, criminal enterprise. I am hoping that a class action lawsuit will be begun against this bank to restore all stolen savings account funds for the people who had misguided faith in this bunch of crooks.

I actually deposited a stale check (expired) for a large amount. They accepted & deposited the check on 11/7/14. On 11/17/14 I got a statement in the mail w/the stale check stating they could not deposit due to the check being expired. Ok, fine. I check my account & they have an Administrative /executive hold on MY FUNDS THAT I HAD PRIOR TO THE DEPOSIT until 11/25/14. What the flip? ?

BB&T is the worse bank in the world. They are very sloppy and inaccurate to the point where they foreclose on peoples homes without taking proper steps to contact the client accordingly. They also fire people for budget cuts yet they give management huge bonuses for work that their business service assistants do for them. They even made a policy that business service assistance are not allowed to get money or take any gifts from managers even if they are the ones who truly did the work. They are all disgusting liars. There is an employee who works in CART group which is a special little group helping out with problem loans, she is a liar and a witch. She is always starting trouble and making horrible remarks about people then reports them to higher ups even though they did nothing wrong. She is ALWAYSSSS late and walks into work whenever she feels and she steals time and goes shopping for hours at a time during her time she is suppose to be working. She also leaves work early and doesnt log out so it looks like she is still in the office. But people fear her cause she can use her words even selling ice to an eskimo, she spends ALLLL day on the internet and on the phone. People use to call her desk and she would never be there or answer her phone or return calls. Clients would ALWAYS complain about her. This company is discriminatory toward minorities and is the worse bank to ever work for. Horrible.

If you over draw your account or do not know how to manage your money of coarse you will have a problem.
I v'e been banking with them for years and have never had a problem. I have direct deposit and use their bill
pay system. It also works fine, but again you have to have money in the account in order to pay bills...
The employees in the branch are friendly and again I have never had a problem.
It's a great bank with no fees.

Air France Charged $308 plus $228 for the same one extra bag to Europe in addition to the $100 which was ok.

After Dispute,

BB&T issued a total of three charges of $228 and two credits of $228 so that Air France got their mistaken fraud money

and

BB&T issued a total of three charges of $308 and tow credits of $308 so that Air France got their mistaken extra fraud money.

Then, BB&T sent me a letter to boast that they reversed the charge so I am not out any money.

They are wrong, and I am out over $500

What can I do?

I should have 105.15 avail in checking and I am 280.00 neg! I then call the 800 # to be told I need to get the money into the bank (cash) befor they close and I would be fine on the pending items!. I then went and looked at my pending items and needed 108.52 to cover my butt. I was wondering why I was neg and still had all these items pending and fees on the posted side for the pending items! BB&T does this all the time. On 1/22/13 my balance was $118.62 I had 6 transaction in the pending stage that had not been asked from the companies to be paid at that time. So on the 1/22/13 I had a amount of 60.00 dollars come out of my checking account which left me
$83.62. So I called the bank and asked them why they charged me $35.00 when I had a available balance of $83.62 and they told me it was because of the items that were still pending but have not gone through yet. So how can they charge me a overdraft fee when I had a positive balance. They told me it was because of the items that were pending. But when I asked them many times about this they told me I was fine until the pending items went through. Now they are changing their story. Then the next day they did the same thing to me I had three pending items that went through for 13.26, 26.00, 5.45, and 94.64. so instead of putting the 3 items that would of been covered under my balance and left me with a balance of 18.36 they put the biggest item for 94.64 so they could overdraft 3 of my items instead of just one. Now my husband's direct deposit is going through tonight like every Friday at 12am and they are going to put they debits firsts so they can collect more overdraft fees. When I try to ask to talk to the highest person of this bank they say you can't. We all need to start a class action suit.

BB&T has charged us twice on debits and then fees. I have gone back and forth with these people. They have taken about a thousand dollars or more of our money. Something needs to be done about this bank stealing money. We are looking to switch to a different bank.

I recently became a BB&T customer when I refi my home and left Wells Fargo because they wanted to charge me monthly fees because I no longer carried my mortgage with them (You have to 3 accounts with WF to get free banking now!).

I wanted to get a feel for BB&T's online banking and determine if they are indeed a "delay posting bank" that intentionally misleads their customers with outdated & erroneous online banking information to trigger over-drafts to their customers account.

I made an ACH payment to my Wal-Mart credit card for $60 via Wal-Mart's website & another ACH payment for my Home Depot Credit Card from Home Depot's Credit card website.

3 days go by & each credit card website has posted the payment, they are no longer pending, have cleared their banks, and my available credit has increased accordingly (which 100% verifies that payment has posted on their end), but when I go online to check my BB&T account, my balance has not changed! There is not even a pending payment transaction either!

How the hell can 2 Credit Card companies go from pending to posting the payments & BB&T not even show a pending transaction? Because it's intentional. I never have this problem with my BOFA account. I use this account more as an occasional 2nd checking account because they are literally a block from my home and it's convienent to me if I need cash or need to make a deposit quickly.

I will never trust their online banking information moving forward. I will never use their bill payment either. Now I know they are THAT "Kind of bank", I will likely be switching that direct deposit back to BOFA or to a credit union account.

When it comes to finances such as banking or any other type of institution, one needs to be aware of how their systems operates. Virtually everyone's account is fluid. There are "time" delays between debiting the account (or crediting) whether by a written check, an online payment, bill paying through the bank, etc. Hence, one's balance at any one time is subject to what is "outstanding" awaiting to be debited/credited.
If one is operating close to the vest, then there's always the chance that one will be suddenly in "harm's way" - especially in this age of data movement via computers. Carrying a safe balance each month "buffers" the possibility of charges/fees.
I believe that banks should offer a tutorial for people to help them understand the processes that are in play and how to make the best of one's account(s). The "fine" print documents you get when you open an account, or come when changes are being made in policy that affect one's account can be mind blowing!
If someone is having difficulty, go to the bank in person. Explain what is happening and ask for help...even ask for a "waiver" on a particular fee/charge if it's a first time event. Believe it or not, banks do want to help. Just don't walk in with an "attitude."

I'm not a banker, but through personal experience and working with people - my financial resources, my customers and my vendors, I find that people want to assist and keep your business,

People complain about everything, and non of it is correct. HIGH-LARIOUS. People spend like they have it in their posted balance, and blame a bank for ignorance. its funny. If you type in any bank name, credit union on this site, everyone says the same thing. When the truth is, is that its lack of self responsibility.

I am going to put something out there for all of you. Stop spending what you don't have and the fees go away.I have had them for ten years and only paid one overdraft fee due to my own stupidity. All of your complaints read exactly the same. You deposit and spend in the same day. No bank works that way anymore...

Yes BBT SUCKS their on-line banking is never right from midnight to 7 in the morning. Also any errors with there on-line banking they don’t consider banking error. They state that their on-line banking is only a tool to help with your account and is not always correct. I wish they told me this before I opened my accounts. Also there is no clear rime or reason to how they prosses their deposits and withdraws. How do they stay in business this way. Calling them is just as confusing, you can tell they have been programmed to avoid helping with fees. Wow I wish I never went there they hurt me and my business. Save yourself and go anywhere else.

I agree Stacy. They are crooks, liars, and thefts. They need to be closed down. I wish someone could get us all attention from this crooked bank. To make them pay for what they have done to people. They have stole enough money to keep them going. They steal from there customers. They stole my inheritance with the help from and employee that worked there. I hope she knows what she has done to me and my family and my health. If I had the money she would be sued to the fullest. I don't see how she can sleep at night. I hope she gets her pay back soon. I've suffered enough through this bank. I wish they all would burn to the ground. I also sent letters does no good. They don't care. They train there employee's how to steal from people. BB&T is the worse bank out there. Kelly King I hope you get your pay back also. Believe me you will because in God's eyes he's watching all you crooks at BB&T and your day will come. What goes around comes around and I hope you all get it soon. All of you need to get paid back for what you ALL have done to people.

Had an acct. w/them back in 2004 in which; was closed. I did not realize that I owed them some money. Mid May of 2011, I opened a new acct. in California, Maryland branch. On the 13th of June, 2011, I recieved a letter from BB&T, but from Lumberton NC. The letter indicated, that my closed acct. in 2004, have an outstanding balance of $720.00. I requested a copy of my old bank statement. The balance was accumulated overdraft charges and late fees. I called the # to call; which was the recovery department and made a payment plan agreement; beginning Aug. 7, 2011. My x-husband also bank with BB&T has been sending me check every month in which; he was trying to set it up as direct payment, but BB&T said, they can't do that to person to person acct.; it has to be business. So it was set as bill pay in which; the bank has to send their own check to my bank. "Well" somehow that agreement was twisted by BB&T.
Roanoke Virginia BB&T was suppose to send their check to California Maryland BB&T. Instead, they debited my x-husbands acct.THE SAME DAY, and stated that the money was deposited to my new BB&T acct.. Until now, I didn't see that money, ' cuz'; somehow, they were able to do a direct deposit, and stating that my x-husband personally deposit the funds to my closed acct.. My x-husband don't even have any clue in my closed acct.. NOW, CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THIS IS WITHIN THE BANKS GUIDE LINE OF HOW TO TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS? I contacted BB&T's recovery department and, basically said, that even though I made an arrangement w/them, they already have the money, there's no way that I'll get it back.

BB&T is the worse bank out there. Turn them in to the BBB that's what I was told will get there attention. I have an issue with there employee what she done to my mother before she passed away. My mother told her to change her assets into only her name and this stupid women pretended she did but, she didn't. She was in with my crooked son that had put his name on all my mothers money and CD's with the help from this crooked women. She transferred over hundred thousand dollars into my sons account in another state on a frozen account before we settled my mothers estate. She's evil and mean and very rude. I was with my mother when she was told to change everything and she didn't. She wrote down on paper what my mother had in her account and that CD was included. My mothers will stated her assets be divided 3 ways and my son took advantage of her and then this women with him wouldn't change her assets after my mother told her too. My mother passed away and this evil women didn't do what my mother told her so my son got my inhertiance with her help. The lord knows the truth and so does this crook and I would hate to be her.

We were with our local bank for many years before it was taken over by BBandT, and we had nothing but highly positive service. That all changed after BBandT took over. Granted, it took a couple of years for them to initiate all of their customer unfriendly methods. Like stated above, we experienced numerous problems with funds being "reserved" for bill payment BEFORE the date we authorized, which resulted in so many overdraft fees we could not catch up. BBandT never notified us about the change to reserving our on-line bill payments "two days" before our specified date, and then charging us overdraft fees. Neither did they notify us when the former procedure of not authorizing an ATM payment when funds were not sufficient changed to authorizing those payments and simultaneously charging us overdraft fees. When the new law required our permission to continue this procedure, we told BBandT "NO WAY", and we had our request documented in writing from them. Funny thing is, a few months later the same thing happened a few more times. When questioned, BBandT claimed the original request to not authorize such transactions were resended the day before the transactions but reinstated a few days later. WE NEVER AUTHORIZED ANY SUCH THING. Needless to say, we no longer do our banking at BBandT.

Would post an negative review if possible. THEY TOOK $6000 FROM ME AND HELD IT 2 DAYS AFTER I DEPOSITED IT (TOOK IT BACK OUT OF MY ACCT), untill I could notify the other person on the check and have them verify their idenity. They said that they should have told me when I deposited the check but their tellers are not up on all of the rules (Not my problem). So now I can't even get the check back. Then after 3 days on the phone with them and being lied to (Said they think Wachovia was the one that had the hold). This was not the case and they knew all along. Avoid this bank at all cost. If you are looking for the Best Bank In Town, I can tell you to take your business elsewhere, because this one is far from the best.

All BB&T banks are crooked. I think they train there employees how to be crooks to steal money from everyone. I have an issue with an employee in Dawsonville Ga. I don't see how she sleeps at night for what she done to me and my family. God knows the truth and her judgement day will come when she faces the Lord. I want her fired for her actions. I would like a settlement for what she done to us. I've paid enough attorney fees and the bank management will not do anything and they don't care. Let someone steal there money and see how it feels. I will keep on until I find the right person to deal with her. They tell me I don't have any prove of her actions but, I do. BB&T banks is the worse. I hope they keep falling until they hit bottom. Go to the site BB&Tsucks.com and put your complaint on that site too.

I have an issue with BB&T Bank and an employee that needs to be fired for her actions. I have an number and email address that might help us.
www.helpwithmybank.gov. that is the OCC. There is a web site also called
www.bb@tsucks.com. It's a real site. I hope they end up all of them closing down. Everybody start putting your money in a security box. Stop letting this bank take advantage of us and stealing from us. They stole my inhertiance with this women that I want fired. I will try my best to get her job. She lied and she took advantage of my sick mother along with my crooked son. She should be held responsible for what she done to me, my mother, my family, and the ones that also didn't get there inhertiance because of this person. Good luck to us all. keep complaining. The CEO is Kelly King 200 West Second Street Winston Salem N.C. 27120. I can tell you he won't do anything or contact you so your wasting your time with him. Go straight to the goverment and let them handle them. What they are doing to people is wrong. In this world today it's hard enough to make ends meet but, they don't care. They just want more money from you. Charging fees and doing what they can to steal your money. They will also threaten to press charges against you too. They did me. I will let the right person handle it. Another thing people could do is go to the media and tell there story. Call the news and put it out there people.!

BB&T ACT AS IF THEY ARE DOING YOU A FAVOR BY BEING AN INTERMEDIARY FOR YOUR MONEY. THE OVERALL DEMEANOR OF THIS FIRM FROM MY EXPERIENCE IS DIVESTITURE TREATMENT IN ORIGIN. I DO NOT KNOW WHO IS IN CONTROL OF THE ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR OBJECTIVES BUT, IT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. EXTRACT YOUR MONEY AND OPEN AN ACCOUNT ELSE WHERE.

We have a current issue with BB&T that we'd like to share and it's pretty clear and simple that this is a case of a bank using illegal practices, resulting in fraud against the consumer.
Situation: We were going on vacation 3 days before Labor Day. We made a transfer from our Main account to our personal account on that day before we left to cover incidental charges. The main account has no debit card, the personal account does, which is what we use to spend for vacations. We initiate the charge before we even leave the house, so naturally this is before any specific charges are posted against this account. Each day we check the account to ensure we haven't forgotten to enter any charges into our check register, albeit we kept receipts and the like, just to triple check ourselves (we're careful to a fault like that.)

Upon our return home 5 days later, on a bank processing day, we realize we're in the hole to the tune of about $200 dollars. NO WAY we spent ourselves into a hole. We quickly check the account and immediately realize our pending transfer has DISAPPEARED. We make another transfer at this point because shoot, we're in the hole and there is a list of charges pending, all valid charges. We call BB&T and a representative advises us that this happens from time to time over long weekends such as a holiday weekend, simply so the money is not tied up for too long.

WTH? If I make a transfer, you leave that transfer there until your bank can process it. Who gives you permission to undo what a customer wants to do, without notifying them? Nevertheless, he says it's no problem the money should appear within 24 to 48 hours, toppling the second transfer we made during our panic. Two days later when the initial transfer never shows, we call the bank again. A nice lady kindly explains that she doesn't know what that rep is talking about and that all she can do is refer it to a 2nd level representative, who should be able to resolve it within 24 to 48 hours.

Meanwhile, charges are still clearing and SOME come with overdraft fees, some don't. We ask, well why don't the other charges come with overdraft fees since they were all made around the same day, if what you're saying is true about our account having insufficient funding? I don't really know, she replies, and begins to spit out her customer service rhetoric again. I say: FRAUDULENT and UNETHICAL. If this doesn't get resolved, we're contacting a lawyer, the SEC and whomever else we can find to hear about this that can do something about it.

I opened my first bank account in the US with BB&T as it was right next to my hotel. The bank has a horrible service, in a month we are supposed to make only 2 phone calls to the customer support otherwise they would charge me $2 for every extra call I make to BB&T, could it be more horrible? I have been maintaining quite a good balance since the past few months but still I do not get any kind of benefits, no free checks, no free electronic transfer. Nothing is free with BB&T.

On the other hand I have a checking account with PNC, these guys are awesome, I can withdraw funds from any ATM in the world I want without any charges as long as I maintain a balance more than $2000. Free electronic transfer too. Now I have moved on to a different location where PNC does not exist close by :( and I am a Chase bank customer now.

I am also a victim of BB&T Bank. I am a hard working grandmother trying to raise 2 grandchildren with a disabled husband. BB&T bank has stolen blind from me. Last month they even took a chunk of my husbands disability check which isn't very much. You never know what your balance is with them and they minus debits before they show your deposits so they can get more of your hard earned money. I even had them hold a cash deposit for 3 days so they could bounce more checks and debits on me. They have gotton enough of my hard earned money and have me so far behind on my bills that it will be forever till I can catch up. For months they have been taking at least half of my paycheck if not all of it. Then there is all the late charges I am paying and things going on my credit because I am late. This is not fair. I went for a full month with no pay at all. They make you feel as though it is you doing something wrong until I started watching online what they were doing. I was charged fees when I should not have been. A class action suit is in order but unfortunately by the time that gets done everyone involved would probably end up with a dollar or so. I need my money back. I will file a formal complaint against them and spread the word that they are the worst bank ever!
