Banfield Pet Hospital They killed my cat

This morning we brought our 2yr old AMAZING cat into Banfield (Harrisburg location) to get a teeth cleaning. Approx. Half hour after we brought him home he DIED. I'm telling you all this because a year ago when he had his teeth cleaned he had a bad reaction. We made Banfield FULLY aware of what happened last time. When I spoke to the tech this morning, he said he would speak with the Dr and that they would do something different with his meds this time. After speaking with the Dr. after my cat started convulsing in my arms, foaming at the mouth, he told me they gave him EXACTLY what they did a year ago. I am not a vet so IDK but common sense tells me that something isn't right here. How does ANY Dr for ANY animal give the same medication they had a bad reaction to again? I am BEYOND ANGRY that my 16yr old daughter just lost her best friend. We will be speaking with the medical board tomorrow to see what can be done if anything. I will say, my dog WILL NOT be going to Banfield any longer. Please BEWARE if you bring your animals there, that the staff actually listens to you when you speak.

Also, if anyone has any insight on someone we can talk to, to try and figure out what happened, I would greatly appreciate it. This is very hard for us to wrap our heads around this right now.

We just want answers how this could happen.

Banfield Pet Hospital Service / care / lack of care

Wellness plan for 14 years. First 8 in another state. Adequate. At 1 pm today called and wanted to talk to vet about elderly pet who has been declining, but suffered an event today (possible stroke). No, I couldn't speak with a medical person, but call answerer whose demonstrated skill set is ability to breathe in and out and press the hold button, kept relaying messages. My beloved dog is suffering and the best Banfield can offer is an appointment more than 48 hours in future. That was 7 hours ago. He is still suffering. This is NOT care. This is NOT service.

Desired outcome: To see doctor when opens tomorrow. To warn others away from Banfield.

Banfield Pet Hospital Service

I am filing a complaint against the Vet Hospital Banfield Josey Oaks.

I took my Cat Max there on July 1, 2021. I took him for his yearly check up and shots. When I spoke to the Vet she said that the cat was like any other cat they get and was a little difficult to deal with but it was normal. They said they needed to put him to sleep to work on him. I agreed if it was necessary. I don't really understand how a Vets office isn't prepared to deal with all animals. When I went to pick up my cat he didn't seem himself and I noticed his fur was wet. It wasn't until I got home that I realized he was sitting in his cage in his own Urine. The ride from the vets to my house is no more than 10 minutes. His fur was soaked in his own urine like he had been sitting in it for awhile. When I called the Vet I was told it was my fault and that the cat was difficult, even dangerous. But when I had spoken to the Vet earlier my cat was like any other.

My cat wandered around my house like he didn't recognize it for days after. He was also skittish like he had been beaten. I believe the Vet not only hurt my Cat and let him sit in his carrier in his own Urine but that they also over medicated my cat.

I want to make sure no other cat has to go through this.

Thank you

Banfield Pet Hospital Misdiagnosis

Took dog to Banfieid for coughing. Sent home with misses diagnosis. Took in again and diagnosed with pneumonia. Told to return for x ray at end of treatment. Took dog in for x ray. He was in hospital for four hours. Came to pick him up. Told x ray machine was broken. Asked to be called when repaired. Told, no you call us next week.
Really. I proceeded to take dog to Peak City Veterinary for follow up x ray.
Had he still had pneumonia, this could have proved fatal for the dog.

Desired outcome: Shut them down

Banfield Pet Hospital Wellness plan-Can’t cancel

I signed up for this plan as I thought I could cancel any month. I had cancelled before no problem for my dog that lived for four years. He just passed and I still have to pay $60 per month for 3 months until the contract ends. The fact that I have to pay for a beloved pet that is no longer alive is ridiculous. They do not care about your pets. Please do not sign up for this plan.

Banfield Pet Hospital Money hungry, irresponsible, unprofessional, worst experience

I had an awful experience at the Brandon, FL location on Causeway Blvd. I took my girl there 3/29/2020 for a bandage change. Just over a week after she had her toe amputated due to a mast cell tumor. She remained totally asymptomatic and had perfect bloodwork. Dr. Brake, the best vet ever, located at Banfield Carrollwood, took an aggressive approach by removing her whole toe, rather than the bottom third, in order to achieve clean margins. My husband, the doctor, and I were all feeling cautiously optimistic. My dog was healing day-by-day, but we ran into a few hiccups along the way. Day one she was in a ton of pain, she escaped from her cone on day three and removed some sutures. Dr. Brake was on vacation, but still took the time to email each day and asked for pictures of the surgical site to monitor her progress. She had some inflammation, to which he recommended hydrotherapy. That seemed to helped tremendously. Then Thursday night, another cone escape. By then, the area was infected and extremely bothersome. My baby licked and licked (or maybe even bit the area), undoing great healing strides and exposing the bone. I took her to Banfield Carrollwood Friday and Dr. Martinez (also an amazing vet), recommended another antibiotic and daily bandage changes. They also gave us a massive cone that she can't get out of. It literally looks like a satellite dish- it's the best! Then Sunday morning, I got a call saying the practice shut down for the day due to a covid exposure. My baby still needed her bandage change, so I frantically called several other locations. And this is when my mental anguish truly began.

This location was able to see her and able to see her quickly. We were happy to take whatever we could, we just wanted to help our girl heal. We had an 11am appointment and they asked for it to be a drop off. There were two doctors, and one just entered surgery. We said this would be fine, because what else can you do? I called to check on her close to her being there for 4 hours, which was absolutely ridiculous! If they didn't look at her until 3pm, why didn't we just have a 3pm appointment? Anyway, the doctor called me back and said my girl broke out of the cone and messed with the site some more! She was supposed to be taken care of there, but they didn't even watch her, and she was in even worse condition than when she arrived. I was livid! How could this have happened?

The doctor informed me she would need to be sedated and scrub the area clean. And that the area was looking and smelled necrotic. She told me probably seven different times she would most likely need her entire leg amputated and the cancer had spread. We were told by her and the nurse to get an appointment with an oncologist basically ASAP. So around 4pm, they gave my girl partial anesthesia and cleaned her wound, and they made us pay for it too. Even though it was their fault. She was extremely dysphoric and this whole thing could have been prevented if they cared about the health of the animals, rather than profit maximization.

So the Friday after, we received our histopathology report stating my girl had a low grade of cancer, no cancer spread into the bone, and we achieved completely clean margins. Absolutely no cancer in her body! If it were up to Brandon location, they would have amputated her leg then and there for absolutely no reason! My girl is thriving now!

I decided to call this location to update them on my girl's progress. I don't ever want anyone else to spend three hours crying like I did, because these quacks don't know what they're talking about. I asked to leave a message for the doctor. The receptionist was extremely confused. She kept asking for my phone number and I said that wasn't necessary, but gave it to her anyway. She also told me I didn't go there, that's because they didn't put my name in their computer correctly, shocker there. And I told her the good news. I wanted it to be a learning experience for her and to know my girl actually was cancer free when she saw her.

Later that afternoon, a tech called and wanted to go over her results to make sure I understood everything. Yeah right, they were saving face and they know it. She told me my dog does have cancer, but it was removed. Yes, that is what being cancer free is. She also said that there is always the possibility the cancer can return. Thanks for that optimism! Lastly, she told me that my girl still may need her leg amputated because the bone was exposed, you know that right? Of course I know that, I'm the one bringing her to the vet every single day. The day after, we had a bandage change with our vet. He told us he is extremely happy with her progress. He thinks there is an extremely low chance the cancer will ever return. He said she is healing wonderfully and showed us pictures of how she is doing. He thinks worst case scenario, she is going to have a larger scar and a little bit of a prolonged healing time. She is walking around and playing and acting like herself again. The infection is gone and she is free of pain. She also can come back in three days instead of daily, for her bandage change since she is doing so well.

These charlatans in Brandon tried to scare me, and admittedly, succeeded. They want me to feel like I was wrong, or better yet, they are right. They made such a detrimental and sweeping conclusion after spending merely minutes with my girl. Meanwhile, our primary vet and the other vets at Carrollwood have been seeing my girl every day. They are all so pleased with how she is doing and how quickly she is healing. If you have money to burn, want to have a nervous breakdown in Petsmart, and feel like profit is valued over your pet, come on down to Brandon Banfield on Causeway!

This was a horrible experience and I will never return to this location. The staff is extremely unprofessional, they only care about profits, and it was completely irresponsible to make sweeping conclusions before all the facts were available. I believe we are entitled to a refund. She never would have needed to have been sedated if they could have just watched her like they should have. It's utterly ridiculous she was in a cage for four hours too. What horrible quality medicine. She suffered for it as well, feeling extremely dysphoric when this was completely preventable. Please do the right thing and refund me for the procedure we had to pay for because the staff cannot even do the bare minimum. And please train these people compassion and empathy. If anything, just common sense so they can make diagnoses that are legitimate.

Desired outcome: Refund, formal apologize, changed policy

Banfield Pet Hospital Dr. Tess Tanner

On 10/08/2012, I took my 16 year old Yorkie mix to Banfield - Orlando to be put to sleep. After listening to her heart, Dr. Tess Turner recommended that I have her chest x-ray'd. I tried to explain the other ailments my beloved dog had, but Dr. Tanner told me that if my dog was in congestive heart failure, she could be treated. After listening to Dr. Tanner try to make me feel guilty for a few minutes, I left with my dog. I feel that Dr. Tanner behaved unethically by trying to increase the cost of my visit. I will never step foot in a Banfield or Petsmart ever again and I recommend that you do the same.

Banfield Pet Hospital Pet plan

I was sold this plan as an insurance plan to save me money. It is not an insurance plan. It is a payment plan that is almost impossible to get out of. You call to cancel, they almost never answer. If they do answer, you say I want to cancel, they say let me transfer you and then you wait at least another hour and finally hang up. They send collection letters explaining the plan in detail, which they never do when selling the plan. If your dog dies or you no longer have the dog. You still have the plan. It also automatically renews. So if you pay up, you get renewed. You get collection calls if you answer you are put on hold. Eventually they answer, I ask how much I owe if I cancel. My amount owed is about $80.00 and I'm still in the plan. If I want to cancel, it's over $400.00. I ask them to send me a letter that once I pay the over $400.00 amount, then I am cancelled out of their plan. They say they can't write a letter. They then assure me I won't be renewed. But the contract says I will be automatically renewed at the end of my plan year. I don't trust them. I sent them a registered letter on March 2, 2021. Requesting a cancellation letter and amount owed.

Desired outcome: To get out of the plan with as little cost as possible

Banfield Pet Hospital Dental tooth extraction

Warminster Banfield hospital Dr. Munacan messed up my cats teeth. September 4, 2019
Dr. Muncan extracted Fluffy tooth and left a piece in their (lower left canine mandible tooth). There is a fragment left, causing infection + pain. I need to pay another VET to fix it. Dr. Muncan is afraid to operate. She said she is not a certified vet dentist, so she recommended I go to another VET. She admitted that she is done not know what she was doing and messed up. I am requesting that Banfield pays for the vet dental surgery please. My request is to have Banfield pay my vet dental bill to CORRECT what Dr Muncan messed up. My cat is in severe pain.

Banfield Pet Hospital Cancellation

My dog was put to sleep on 12/31/20. Her plan of 12 years renewed on 11/20. They are expecting me to continue to pay my monthly fee until 11/21. My pet was sick and only had labs done. Her labs done in December 2020 were paid out of pocket. I have placed a stop payment on my automatic draft and do not feel that I owe anything .

Desired outcome: Consider my balance paid in full

Banfield Pet Hospital Being billed for dog insurance. When I had dog put to sleep. Have been told that I would have to pay out his contract.

Had my dog put to sleep in August 2020. I was told that I still owe for services that I had gotten for free.
Banfield must be hurting for money if they are needing to bill customers for their dogs that they no longer have. Also Banfield Corporate Office also forgot to take me out of collections for over a year. When I had paid the bill in full, after the first collection notice. Called Banfield Corporate office and spoke with 4 different people and was on the phone for over 2 hours, just to get the collections taken off my record. When I get another dog. You can bet. I Will not be going back to Banfield Hospital. They are running a racket.

My dog just died, and I called them and we had nothing owing on our contract, because it just now renewed, and we had no benefit from it. If we had paid on it for, say, six months, and still had six months to go, then we would have had to pay off that six months, because we had benefit from the plan. I am sorry you lost your dog, but unfortunately, you still have to finish paying off the yearly contract.

Banfield Pet Hospital Veterinarian/cyst removal

Banfield in Harrisburg, NC seriously ripped me off. I took my pet to them because she was limping and unable to walk on one rear paw. They duped me into signing up for a Wellness Plan, examined my pet, performed a bacterial impression and told me she had a lot of bacteria on her foot, offered antibiotics and a drug to help with itching. After the course of antibiotics, my pet still couldn't use her paw, take her back in and they charge us for an incredibly expensive cytology examination of the mass in her foot. Results were inconclusive (meaning either inadequate sample or that there was nothing abnormal seen) as it was obvious at this point it was a simple cyst. More antibiotics, an anti-inflammatory and sent home again. My dog still couldn't walk on her rear paw, so we contacted them again and were told to bring her back. The vet starts talking to us about my dog's foot probably requires partial amputation and I'm getting very angry at this point because it is a CYST and the procedure for removal is clearly published. After another examination, they kept her overnight for a cyst removal which cost all of 62 dollars. This was after spending near 700 dollars already for really poor service, nearly a month and a half of my pet being in agonizing pain and the vet ignoring that this is a CYST! In addressing my complaint, the office manager outright refused to reverse the invoice for the unnecessary services, the pain and suffering they forced upon my pet and laughed at me because how could I know how a cyst is handled? Two seconds on Google Scholar produced this: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5721324/
I'd been correct the entire time, they just took advantage of us when we needed relief for our pet from an extremely painful issue.

Yes, they routinely inflict pain on animals to run the bill up. Next they will want to extract her teeth.

Banfield Pet Hospital Dental care

I took my dog boo boo in today because they told me his vaccinations. They told me every thing was fine except he had tarter buildup. When I get home I went on line to see his report & it said he was due a dental cleaning today 8/21/2020. They told me there that he didn't need it for 6 months. I pay monthly for insurance. Its suppose to cover 2 cleanings a year. Also they are suppose to have discounted prescriptions. They charged 47. For heart worm injection when they only charged 56. Before I had the insurance. I've
Had their wellness insurance for over 3 years. It was the banfield hospital in lake worth, texas. I use to take him to banfield in fort worth, texas where I have never had a problem.

Banfield Pet Hospital Surgical procedures

My dog was brought in for an annual teeth cleaning. The person who was suppose to check her in took her at the door and left. Did not ask any questions to make sure she was the correct dog or what procedure she was getting done. All along our dog has her dog tag and collar on her the whole time. While at the hospital she was confused with another dog. My dog was put under to be spayed AGAIN! They started the procedure when they realized she had been previously spayed. Now she is with a cone and antibiotic again!

Banfield Pet Hospital Neglect / compensation

My Dog Bellah had surgery on 5/25/20. Surgery went well according to vet and my dog was sent home later that day. During the 4 days after surgery, I called and raised concerns of her not eating or drinking water. All I kept being told is to keep her hydrated and try to make sure she eats. Banfield's response those 4 days was to assure me that due to her age and being a 10 year old dog with this type of surgery can be traumatic and will take time for her to adjust and also anesthesia can prevent a dog from eating the first day or so. I called Again on Friday (4th day post op) to inform them there is something wrong with Bellah to be told they're not able to see her because they had one surgeon and had 2 emergency cases was absolutely ridiculous and all they were worried about was payment with my care one credit. I called Blue Pearl Vet hospital who Banfield told me to call and was told there was a 4-5 hour wait. I took her to VEG Animal Hospital in Clifton, to be told after her work up, she was in possible renal failure, had fluid built up in her abdomen, couldn't see her bladder during an Ultra Sound, and needed to be transferred to Red bank Veterinary hospital in Tinton falls, for specialized care due to possible renal failure and possible diseased bladder. Red bank performed emergency surgery as it was warranted due to her condition. Surgeon found a leak and was repaired, abdomen was cleaned, stones were found. Surgery went well however, her renal count remain high. Unfortunately even with IV fluid therapy to try to get the kidneys back on track was unsuccessful, blood pressure increased and heart rate dropped. Sunday evening, surgeon gave us the heart breaking news of her condition and an that a possible option for her was to be transferred to a Philadelphia for Dialysis care; However, there was a 50/50 chance of not making it through. For us to subject Bellah to Dialysis for further care and more suffering was too much for a dog who already had 2 surgeries within days. At 10:30pm we had to euthanize Bellah. Banfield's concern was to call me and worry about their payment and not releasing medical records for me to take to the emergency hospitals. I want an investigation as to why her renal count was high when blood work was taken on 05/25 and no one said anything.
Banfield's disregard of not having Bellah come in to be checked days prior, refusing to see her Friday, due to having one surgeon and two emergency cases, worried about payment, no other Banfield was able to see her, her renal count high prior to surgery and not informing me, its not only neglectful but careless and unacceptable. Bellah clearly had been in distress by her symptoms and as a surgeon should of known better. By my numerous calls during the four days post care and one of the staff seemingly aggravated by my concerns is distasteful and unprofessional. Not once I was told to bring her in to be checked. Their neglect is the most horrible thing a person can experience. One more thing, Monday I get a call from one of their staff speaking about payment when I told them of what happened. I ask for a full investigation as this should have not happen. $ 8, 000 and my Bellah couldn't be saved. I should not be responsible for Banfield's neglect.

Banfield Pet Hospital Vet Services

If I could give a -10 review that is what it would be. Run, Run as fast as you can. This place is awful! I have given them the opportunity to do the right thing but apparently they will not. My poor little 11 lb, 15 year old Shih Tzu was brought in on a Tuesday because he had be throwing up, which he did occasionally and the vet told me according to the X rays he had ingested something "metallic". Even had a specialist confirmed her belief. $ 468 with pet plan increase now to $ 50.00 per month to cover Xrays. Bring him back next day to see if he started to pass the object. No, he did not - it was lodged. I was told it could possibly be plastic, or even "kitty litter". Options were to treat throwing up or preform surgery. I told technician I wanted to discuss with my husband based on the amount the surgery would cost and, mind you, the dog is 15 years old. The tech tells me I have 20 MINUTES to make this decision! Under the absolute impression that they dog ate something (as I was told over and over by) we agreed to the $1700.00 surgery as we were worried what the metallic, plastic substance would do when he passed it. I was then called after the surgery to find out it was a stomach mass (probably cancer as one of the other vets mentioned). NEVER, EVER in any discussions with the vet was a mass, cyst, anything of organic nature in the dog ever mentioned. He was 15 years old and we would have never agreed to a $1700.00 surgery based on that! Four days later the dog was euthanized as he little body could not recover. His last 4 days on earth were miserable. Had we know it was even a remote possibility that it was not something ingested we would have made a completely different choice. I spoke to another vet who said they "could have made the same mistake" Worst part of all this is after spending all this money on their error I am apparently still stuck in my $ 50.00 per month contract. I called the corporate office last week and they said someone would get back tome in 3 days - more than 3 days have passed - No response. The very least the could do is make this contract go away. The vet can be COMPLETELY WRONG and its no consequence to them. But we expedited the death of this dog and made him suffer. I admit to making the very poor decision to allow the surgery but it was based on the "experts" 14 year experience.

Banfield Pet Hospital myrtle beach banfield

Dr. Kristen Chapman.. Myrtle Beach, SC. does her part to make Banfield the lowest rated veterinarian clinic in the US. She killed my dog and blamed everything except her incompetence. I'm not sure if she's licensed.. or someone that just puts on an outfit and goes to work and experiments on peoples family members.. their pets. She should be a used car salesman. According to her.. if Petsmart or Banfield sells it.. your pet needs it. If she's not already being investigated for malpractice and upselling.. she should be added at the top of the list. I was asking her some elementary questions.. ones I had researched online.. after I had caught her making crucial mistakes. She tells me.. I swear on the Bible.."I don't come to your work askin you questions.. do I"? Right in front of everyone at the desk. She runs unchecked. She don't care whose pet dies. No1 checks behind Banfield vets. They're the Super Cuts.. or fast food resturaunt of vets. People trust their vets. They don't need their vet selling them things that they don't need.. doing uneeded procedures just to get a bigger commission or to make a sales quota. You better have OJs attorneys if you plan to win anything. I'm sure Banfield pays their attorneys a lot more than their "bottom of their class" doctors. ESPECIALLY Dr. Kristen Chapman.. Myrtle Beach, SC.

Now..a "pet rock" might be ok in Dr. Chapman and Banfields care. Maybe not. I'll bet you..by God..it would cost you $1k to find out.

Oh yeah..I forgot to mention all the tests that Dr. Kristen Chapman..Myrtle Beach, SC..ordered..over numerous visits..and never even looked at. Dr. Chapman charged me $500 for nausea medication to remedy the same symptoms other vets recommend over the counter "Prilosec" for. I'm not going to get into the upselling of Banfield sold..insulin and prescription dog food. If anything..the products Kristen Chapman upsold..hurt my baby girl Betsy. If the public knew all about Dr. Kristen Chapman..it would be like an old Frankenstein movie. A mob of people with pitchforks and torches..chasing her down like the monster she is.

Banfield Pet Hospital cancellation and service scam

Banfield is a joke. They scam people, treat pet owners poorly, and their customer service is an abomination.

My dog has diabetes and they offered to sell me the insulin whenever my dog needed it. We'll, guess what? After 3 months of buying insulin directly from them, one of their assistants declined to sell it to me. Telling me they don't sell insulin to customers and that I must be wrong. I got upset and requested to have someone else help me. I don't know who talked to her in the back office, because they returned and told me how much I needed to pay that day for the insulin. After that day, some of the front desk girls have a little of an attitude when I call in advance to tell them I'm getting my dogs insulin.

Also, due to my dog having a heart murmur he is unable to receive some services before getting some special tests done. I was all for it, but every time I went they kept telling me I needed to do more testing, more lab works...it's getting expensive, I love my dog, I really do, but I can't pay right away for all this work to be done, and they make it sound and look like I could kill him for not getting it done. I've been to other vets and they've never mention any of the things Banfield comes up with.

I called their customer service to get the plan cancelled since I have not been getting any of the benefits from it due to all the conditions my dog has. They told me they can cancel the renewal and cancel the plan but I need to pay the $900+ dollars I use on discounts from the program. When I asked d what they were talking about they said for the fecal and blood work my dog got in January and the discount I received for the insulin I bought for all 2019. I tried to reason with him, that I have been paying $40 a month and not taking advantage of any of the benefits of the program, and I was never told the insulin had a discount since it is the same price I would have paid through other vendors. He declined to assist and said if I didn't pay the $900+ or stayed with the plan for 2 more months they will send me to collections.

I asked for a supervisor but the idiot hung up on me. Now I am forced to make a decision, stay with them for to 2 more months and pay $40 for the plan (that I can't use) plus buy the insulin from them that's $55 (I get it every 2 weeks). This all means I still have 2 more months of paying them $300.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THEIR WELLNESS PLAN. It's all a scam. Check local vets who are more than happy to help even if they are a little more expensive, and/or Walmart's new vet clinic. My local Walmart pet clinic actually has better preventive care service, are cleaner, cheaper and you DONT need to sign up for any plan. All their prices are already discounted. My dogs visit, bloodwork and insulin will be cheaper with them than what I've paid Banfield.

Banfield Pet Hospital treatment to customers

I have used this clinic since I first moved to Colorado after leaving the care of the on post veterinary clinic. With my job I travel all over so I need consistency with the care of my beloved pets, so I am very hesitant about posting a negative review, though a service might warrant it.
This place and the Brighton are beyond rude as far a the medical service is concerned, **warning if you complain about horrible treatment the senior vet will contact corporate and cancel your wellness plan, leaving your loved ones without care!
I have since contacted corporate and informed them of this abuse of power!

Oh wait... they removed my pets and myself from the wellness plan! Video record all visits with Banfield to protect yourself from bad service!

Banfield Pet Hospital rabies titer fee

I paid the fee for rabies titer fee, they didn't provide me the service. I asked if they can return it they refused. I am so curious why I can't get back the money if I didn't take that service. Also, I ask for the document if they can change the owner's name for my pet cause I am not there and need my friend to bring my baby back, they gave me no right answer on how to solve it but tell me they can't change! I am very disappointed. If you can't change the name, pls return back my money!

Just run away from this company while your dog is alive. Banfield does not perform titer tests. That is why they couldn’t give you the results.
